Assassin’s Creed Mirage to Launch on iPhone 15 Pro, iPad on June 6

Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the open-world action-adventure title from Ubisoft, will launch on iOS devices on June 6, the studio has announced. First announced for Apple devices in September last year, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will arrive on the App Store for iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPad Air and iPad Pro with M1 chip or later, making it the first console Assassin’s Creed title that can be played natively on mobile devices.

According to Ubisoft, Mirage will be free to download and play for 90 minutes from Apple’s App Store. The full game will cost users $49.99, or roughly Rs. 4,174. The full version of the game will support universal purchase, which means the game will be playable on both iPhone and iPad once full access is unlocked with a single in-app purchase.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is currently up for pre-order on the App Store. Ubisoft also confirmed that the game will support cross-progression and cross-save through Ubisoft Connect, allowing players to transfer their progress across all available platforms.

The iPhone and iPad version of the game has been developed by Ubisoft Sofia and promises to deliver the same experience as the console version. Ubisoft said that game controls have also been adapted to the iPhone and iPad touch screens, but users can always play the game with a compatible controller for a better experience.

Mirage was first announced for iPhone and iPad alongside three other games at Apple’s Wonderlust event in September last year, where the tech giant unveiled its iPhone 15 lineup. The game was initially slated for an early 2024 release but is now coming out on Apple platforms on June 6. iPhone 15 Pro models and M1 and above iPad models have already seen the release of triple-A games like Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil Village and Death Stranding.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage was launched on October 5 across PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. The game is set in 9th century Baghdad, putting players in the shoes of Basim, a young street thief who joins the Hidden Ones and rises through the ranks to become a Master Assassin.

iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro Max Tipped to Pack Bigger Batteries Than Their Predecessors

iPhone 16 series, which is expected to include four models —iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, Phone 16 Pro, and Phone 16 Pro Max— could be unveiled sometime in the second half of this year. Unsurprisingly, loads of leaks and rumours have already started circulating online and we now get the first hints about the battery capacity of the upcoming iPhone 16 series. The batteries of the iPhone 16 Pro series could be large compared to the iPhone 15 series. The vanilla iPhone 16 is said to sport a 3,561mAh cell, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max is tipped to come with a 4,676mAh battery.

Tipster Majin Bu (@MajinBuOfficial) has posted the battery specifications of the iPhone 16 series on X. The iPhone 16‌ Pro models are said to be equipped with larger batteries than their predecessors. The ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus, in contrast, might see a downgrade in battery capacity compared to last year’s model, according to details that have surfaced online.

As per the leak, the iPhone 16 will carry a 3,561mAh battery and the iPhone 16 Plus could pack a 4,006mAh battery. The iPhone 16 Pro Max is tipped to feature a 4,676mAh battery. The battery details of the iPhone 16 Pro are not available at this moment. The top-end iPhone 16 Pro Max is said to see an internal redesign in the battery setup, using a rectangular shape instead of an L-shaped one.

Apple typically keeps its iPhone battery capacities under wraps, but the tipster claims that the iPhone 15 has a 3,349mAh battery unit and the iPhone 15 Plus has a 4,383mAh battery. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is said to be backed by a 4,422mAh battery. These are mostly in line with battery capacities revealed from previous teardown videos of the handsets.

The iPhone 15 series arrived with rechargeable lithium‑ion battery units. The battery of non-Pro models is claimed to offer up to 26 hours of video playback time on a single charge, while the battery unit of Pro models is said to deliver a maximum 29 hours of video playback time on a single charge. The regular iPhone 15 models are powered by the A16 Bionic chip that was unveiled in 2022. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max run on Apple’s next-generation A17 Pro chip.

The price of the iPhone 15 in India starts at Rs. 79,900, while the iPhone 15 Plus starts at Rs. 89,900. The iPhone 15 Pro, on the other hand, is priced at Rs. 1,39,900 for the base 128GB storage model, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at Rs. 1,59,900 for the base 256GB of storage variant.

iPhone 16 Lineup Could All Feature an A18 Chip, iOS 18 Code Reportedly Suggests

Apple packed ‌an older A16 chip on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models this year, while the top-of-the-range ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ and iPhone 15 Pro Max debuted with an all-new A17 Pro chip. Now, early leaks indicate that the Cupertino-based tech giant will use an A18 processor in all iPhone 16 models. Early development versions of the iOS 18 operating system reportedly include references to four new iPhone models with an A18 chip.

As per a report by Macrumors, early development versions of the iOS 18 operating system contain references to four new iPhone models. These models, believed to be the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, are reportedly internally referenced as D47, D48, D93, and D94, respectively.

The codes from iOS 18 reportedly indicate that Apple will pack a new SoC – t8140 – Tahiti in the entire ‌iPhone 16‌ range. This codename is said to be associated with the A18 chip. This corroborates earlier rumours.

Apple’s recent iPhone 15 series and iPhone 14 series have used different chipsets for the non-Pro and Pro models. The company used older generation SoCs in its lower-priced iPhone units in 2023 and 2022. The ‌iPhone 15‌ runs on an older A16 Bionic chip from the iPhone 14 Pro, while the ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ models are powered by a new A17 Pro chip with an additional GPU core and increased clock speed.

If all four iPhone 16 models are to use an A18 chip in 2024, it won’t be the same one, as per the report. Apple is said to differentiate the chips used on iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models by using A18 and A18 Pro branding. Besides the A18 chip, the operating system reportedly has reference to Broadcom Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules.

The rumoured iPhone 16 series is expected to come with a dedicated button for taking videos. This mysterious button is expected to be called as “Capture Button”. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models would feature the new Action Button, which is currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro models. The Pro variants are said to have larger displays than the iPhone 15 Pro models.

iOS 17.2 Update With Journal App, Spatial Video Capture, New Widgets, and More Available Now

Apple released the iOS 17.2 update on Monday (December 11) as the latest OS version for iPhone. The update includes security fixes, patches, improvements as well as new features. It brings Apple’s long-awaited new Journal app (Review) to the iPhone. It also enables Spatial Video capture on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iOS 17.2 update also brings new actions for the iPhone 15 Pro’s Action Button, new Weather widget, AirDrop improvements, and improvements to the Messages app. Further, the update brings Qi2 wireless charging support to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series. However, the AirPlay in hotels feature and Apple Music collaborative playlists have been delayed and pushed to 2024.

After several weeks of testing, Apple has officially released iOS 17.2 to all compatible iPhone models alongside iPadOS 17.2, macOS 14.2 Sonoma, and watchOS 10.2 updates. The Cupertino-based tech giant has introduced the Journal app with the latest iOS update. The health and wellness-focused app that helps users record daily activities and thoughts was initially announced at the company’s WWDC event in June alongside iOS 17. Users have the option to lock their Journal using Touch ID or Face ID and filters can be used to find bookmarked entries. Further, there are scheduled notifications to remind users to write when they choose to and iCloud syncs for the entries.

The iOS 17.2 update brings the ability to record spatial videos on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which can then be viewed in 3D using the company’s Vision Pro mixed reality headset. With the latest update, the iPhone 15 Pro models also get a boost in focusing speed and accuracy of its telephoto sensors while capturing distant objects.

With iOS 17.2, the Action button on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max gains a translate function. This can be used to quickly translate phrases or have a conversation with someone in another language.

Other features available in iOS 17.2 version are new Weather widgets, a Digital Clock widget, a Favourite Songs Playlist in Apple Music, a new sticker option in the context menu, AirDrop improvements, and Memoji updates. The Messages app gets new features, including a catch-up button that lets users easily jump to the first unread message in a conversation by tapping the arrow in the top-right corner. It also gets Contact Key Verification as a security feature to assist people facing digital threats.

Apple has also enabled Qi2 wireless charging support on the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series with iOS 17.2. Further, Siri in the latest iOS version can access data from the Health app using your voice. Enhanced AutoFill, keyboard layout support for eight Saimi languages, and Sensitive Content Warning for stickers in Messages are other key highlights.

To download the latest iOS 17.2 update, head to Settings> General > Software Update and download and follow the instructions. Users are recommended to connect their iPhone to a power source until the update finishes installing.

Unfortunately, the Apple Music collaborative playlists feature that appeared in the iOS 17.2 beta versions is not available in the final version. This functionality allows users to add friends to their playlists and enables multiple users to add, record, and remove songs from the same playlist. iOS 17’s AirPlay in hotel rooms feature is also not included in the final release. Apple has stated that these two features have been pushed to 2024.

Apple Plans to Equip All iPhone 16 Models With Revamped Action Button: Report

iPhone 16 — expected to debut in the second half of 2024 as the successor to the iPhone 15 series of smartphones — could be equipped with Apple’s new Action Button. While the company equipped the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max with the new button designed to replace mute switch, a new report states that the company is planning on equipping all four models in the lineup with the customisable button, which is expected to arrive in a revamped form.

MacRumors reports that Apple will include the Action Button on all iPhone 16 models that are likely to arrive next year. Unlike the iPhone 15 lineup, the non-Pro iPhone 16 models are also expected to feature the new Action Button. It is also suggested that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus might be the last iPhone models to debut with the mute switch — even the iPhone SE 4 is tipped to debut in 2025 with the new button.

Meanwhile, the report states that the Action Button on the iPhone 16 series will be revamped next year. Instead of using the regular mechanical button like the volume and power keys, the new Action Button will offer capacitive-style button functionality like the iPhone SE (2022) home button. It is unclear whether all models in the series will be equipped with the redesigned button — codenamed Atlas.

When Apple unveiled the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max this year, the firm touted the new functionality offered by the Action Button that expands the use of the button that was used to switch between vibrate and ring modes on the iPhone.

With the action button, you can toggle ringer modes or accessibility features, launch the camera app or magnifier app, start or stop a voice memo or the flashlight, and enable and disable focus modes on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The switch to a capacitive button means that it might be able to detect different pressure levels. However, enthusiasts will have to wait for several months before Apple unveils the purported iPhone 16 series of smartphones in 2024.

iPhone 16 Pro to Feature 120mm Tetraprism Camera From iPhone 15 Pro Max: Ming-Chi Kuo

iPhone 16 series is expected to arrive next year, but numerous leaks have already begun to surface online, giving us an idea of what to expect from Apple’s next flagship phones. Most recently, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reiterated his claim that both the iPhone 16 Pro and ‌iPhone 16‌ Pro Max will feature Apple’s tetraprism telephoto lens with improved zoom capabilities. This year the Cupertino giant included a new tetraprism lens system with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, enabling support for 5x optical zoom. The smaller ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌, on the other hand, supports 3x optical zoom.

TF International Securities analyst in a new blog post on Tuesday claimed that Apple would include a tetraprism camera in the iPhone 16 Pro next year. In the iPhone 15 lineup, Apple only equipped one model with a new telephoto lens with up to 5x optical zoom and a focal length of 120mm — the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 Pro features a 12-megapixel telephoto camera that offers 3x zoom. This is in line with Kuo’s previous claims.

The addition of a tetraprism camera in the iPhone 16 Pro would lead to a 160 percent year-on-year growth for Apple’s smartphones, with the inclusion of the camera on both models in 2024, according to Kuo, who adds that lens manufacturer Largan is the exclusive supplier of quadruple reflex periscope camera lenses for the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the production yield was at only 40 percent. Kuo says that Largan has now significantly improved its yield rate to 70 percent or above.

Further, he states that Apple and Huawei are the two fastest-growing brands in global periscope camera smartphone shipments in 2024. Largan will be the primary supplier of periscope lenses for Apple and Huawei in 2024. Huawei’s P70, P70 Pro and P70 Art, which are expected to go into production in the first half of next year, will also feature periscope cameras.

Besides cameras, the iPhone 16 Pro models might bring display upgrades as well. As per a recent report, Apple could pack a 6.27-inch display on the iPhone 16 Pro and a 6.86-inch display on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The Pro models could use 120Hz displays based on the low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) technology. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models are said to maintain 6.12-inch and 6.69-inch displays with 60Hz refresh rate, respectively.

iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max Tipped to Get Larger Displays, Regular Models May Stick to 60Hz Displays

iPhone 15 series has barely been on the market for two months now but multiple rumours about next year’s iPhone 16 series have already started surfacing online. Now, a rumour suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro models will bring larger displays. The iPhone 16 Pro is said to feature a 6.27-inch display while the iPhone 16 Pro Max could pack a 6.86-inch display. Meanwhile, Apple is said to stick to a 60Hz display on the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models similar to their iPhone 15 counterparts. The Pro variants could get 120Hz screen.

A new post by the South Korean blog Naver claims that Apple could pack a 6.27-inch display on the iPhone 16 Pro and a 6.86-inch display on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The Pro models could use 120Hz displays based on the low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) technology.

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models, in contrast, are said to maintain 6.12-inch and 6.69-inch displays with 60Hz refresh rate respectively, the same size and refresh rate as the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. This year’s iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro sport 6.1-inch OLED displays, while the iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro Max come with larger 6.7-inch OLED displays. Both iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models support ProMotion with a refresh rate that ranges between 1Hz and 120Hz. The vanilla and Plus models in the iPhone 16 family could still feature 60Hz LTPO displays. Additionally, all models in the lineup are expected to feature a Dynamic Island.

The new leak lines up with what DSCC analyst Ross Young previously claimed in May. According to Young, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models launching in 2024 will feature around 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes, respectively. He believes that regular models will maintain 6.1 and 6.7-inch displays. Known tipster Revegnus (@Tech_Reve) also corroborated this possibility.

iPhone 15 series went on sale in India in September. The price of the iPhone 15 in India starts at Rs. 79,900 for the base model with 128GB of storage, while the iPhone 15 Plus starts at Rs. 89,900 for the 128GB storage variant. The iPhone 15 Pro, on the other hand, is priced at Rs. 1,39,900 for the base 128GB storage model, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at Rs. 1,59,900 for the base 256GB of storage variant.

The regular iPhone 15 models are powered by Apple’s A16 Bionic chip. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are equipped with the company’s next-generation A17 Pro SoC.

iPhone 15 Series Gets Deep Discounts by Chinese Retailers as Analysts Point to Weak Sales

Chinese e-commerce platforms including PDD Holdings’ Pinduoduo and Alibaba’s Taobao are offering deep discounts on Apple’s latest iPhone 15 series, with some selling models up to CNY 900 ($123 or roughly Rs. 10,229) below the retail price.

Analysts say the iPhone 15 has not been selling as well in China as its predecessor. Counterpoint Research said last week that iPhone 15 sales in China were down 4.5 percent versus the iPhone 14 in the first 17 days after its market launch.

Apple, Pinduoduo and Alibaba did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In China, Apple will occasionally allow partner vendors to offer discounts to spur demand. But Chinese e-commerce platforms have also been locked in a “value for money” battle as consumers tighten their belts amid a slowing economy, with discounting a key focus of forthcoming annual Singles Day shopping festival.

Pinduoduo is offering the 128 GB version of the iPhone 15 Plus at CNY 6,098 (roughly Rs. 69,312), CNY 900 less than Apple’s retail price of CNY 6,999 (roughly Rs. 79,553), according to checks made by Reuters.

The 512 GB iPhone 15 Pro Max, which has a CNY 11,999 (roughly Rs. 1,36,385) price tag in Apple’s store, can be bought for CNY 10,698 (roughly Rs. 1,21,598) on Alibaba’s e-commerce platform Taobao.

The e-commerce platform iPhone 15 discounts were first reported by The Economic Observer weekly newspaper on Monday.

Last month, Counterpoint data showed that Apple was expected to gain a larger share of India’s smartphone sales, with the high-end iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models accounting for more of its shipments. The company is projected to account for 7 percent of all smartphone sales in the country from July to December, up from 5 percent in the first half of 2023.
