iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro Display Production Said to Begin in June; iPhone 16 Pro Max Tipped to Get Upgraded Battery

iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro are expected to launch in the second half of 2024 and production of components for Apple’s next generation of smartphones is likely to start in the coming weeks, according to details shared by Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) CEO and Co-Founder Ross Young. Meanwhile, TF Securities International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple will upgrade the top-of-the-line iPhone 16 Pro Max with a new battery that offers improved battery life compared to its predecessor.

Young states (via 9to5Mac) in a subscriber-only post on X (formerly Twitter) that Apple will soon begin production of displays for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models, as these are the two models with the highest projected volume. The analyst also said that the other two models in the series — the iPhone 16 Plus and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to take place at a later stage.

Meanwhile, Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be upgraded with a new battery with higher energy density than the current generation iPhone 15 Pro Max. If Apple decides to equip the handset with the same battery capacity as its 2023 flagship model, it could lead to improved battery life on the upcoming model. Kuo also states that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be encased in stainless steel — Apple currently uses aluminium on its existing smartphones.

This year, Apple is expected to increase the size of two models in the iPhone 16 series. According to previous reports — and recently leaked dummy images — the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to debut with 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, respectively — an increase of 0.2 inches on both models compared to last year’s Pro and Pro Max models. The other two handsets are expected to arrive with the same display sizes as their predecessors.

The iPhone 16 Pro models are also tipped to arrive with an upgraded OLED screen that offers a 20 percent increase in peak brightness while displaying standard dynamic range (SDR) content. This means SDR content on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max might be displayed at a peak brightness of 1,200nits, peak brightness for HDR content could remain unchanged at 1,600 nits.

iPhone 16 Series Leaked Images Reveal Display Sizes, Camera Alignment

iPhone 16 series could witness major reshuffling when it comes to design and display sizes. As per a new leak, the Pro models — the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max — could get larger displays, whereas the non-Pro models — the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus — could feature a new camera alignment. These changes, if true, will break Apple’s three-year streak of introducing consistent design and display for its smartphones. Notably, the iPhone 16 series is also tipped to get capacitive buttons this year.

Tipster Sonny Dickson shared an image on X (formerly known as Twitter) showcasing the new design and display sizes. As per the images, the iPhone 16 Pro could get a 6.3-inch display as opposed to the 6.1-inch display on the iPhone 15 Pro. Similarly, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is tipped to feature a 6.9-inch display compared to a 6.7-inch display on its predecessor. The vanilla iPhone 16 is said to retain its 6.1-inch display, while the iPhone 16 Plus will get the same 6.7-inch display as its predecessor.

The display size upgrade, if true, will make some users happy, however, fans of smaller phones could be disappointed with the development. But the display size is not the only change revealed by the tipster. The camera alignment for the non-Pro models has also seen a change.

Instead of a diagonally aligned camera module like the iPhone 13, iPhone 14, and iPhone 15, the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus could sport a vertically aligned module, similar to the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12. However, there is another change which differentiates it from any other iPhone model. The LED flash appears to be outside the module.

It is rumoured that the vertically aligned camera alignment is to add spatial video recording capabilities to the non-Pro iPhone 16 models. While not a lot is known, some other features of Apple’s next generation of iPhone have surfaced online. As per one report, the iPhone 16 series could get capacitive buttons which will replace the physical power button and volume rockers. These were first tipped to arrive in the iPhone 15 series, but later reportedly scrapped. The Action button which currently features on only the Pro models is also expected to be present on all the iPhone 16 models.

iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus Tipped to Arrive in Seven Colour Options, Two More than iPhone 15 Lineup

Apple’s iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to debut later this year with a few design changes, such as a new vertically aligned camera layout and the Action button that arrived last year on the iPhone 15 Pro. A tipster now claims that Apple will introduce its next iPhone models in two additional colour options this year. An earlier report suggested that the iPhone 16 Pro models will swap two existing colourways on the iPhone 15 Pro models with new ones.

According to a post by tipster Fixed Focus Digital (translated from Chinese) on Weibo, the upcoming iPhone 16 Plus (as well as the regular iPhone 16) will be available in Black, Blue, Green, Pink, Purple, White, and Yellow colourways. The Purple and White options are new additions, while the others will be the same from the standard iPhone 15 models.

While five of the seven rumoured colour options are the same as the iPhone 15 models, Apple could still launch its upcoming handsets different shades. The current generation iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus colour options are more muted with a matte finish on the rear panel — especially the Blue variant — compared to their predecessors, while this year’s models might be more vibrant.

Earlier this year, it was reported that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be launched in new grey and gold finishes. These two are expected to replace two existing ones from the iPhone 15 Pro lineup — Apple only introduces its Pro models in four colourways every year. This year’s iPhone 16 Pro models could arrive in new Desert Titanium and Titanium Grey colourways.

The upcoming iPhone 16 series is likely to debut in the second half of 2024, based on Apple’s previous release timelines. Before these phones are unveiled, Apple is also expected to show off new software features coming to users as part of iOS 18, macOS 15, and other software updates at its upcoming WWDC 2024 event that begins on June 10.

iPhone 16 Cases Surface Online, Hinting at Pill-Shaped Rear Camera Island

iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are likely to make their debut in the second half of 2024 with a few design tweaks, according to previous reports. A leaked image that shows two cases for the iPhone 16 models gives us a good idea of what to expect from the successors to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. This year, the standard models are said to sport a vertical pill-shaped layout, replacing the square camera island with rounded edges found on the iPhone 15 series and other models that preceded it.

An image of two smartphone cases was leaked by tipster Sonny Dickson via X (formerly Twitter). The case on the left side appears to be slightly larger, which means it could be for the iPhone 16 Plus, while the cover for the standard model could be on the right side. Both cases are shown with a vertical rear camera bump, along with a plastic cutout for the LED flash located right next to the camera island.

While the new camera layout could be part of a new design that has been tipped several times over the past few months, MacRumors notes that the upcoming smartphones may also feature a dual rear camera setup that is vertically aligned to enable support for spatial recording — this is reportedly not supported on the iPhone 15 as the handset has a diagonal camera layout.

This year, Apple’s Action button is expected to make its way from the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max to all four models in the iPhone 16 series. The leaked cases also appear to show the Action button on the regular iPhone 16 models, along with a cutout for the rumoured ‘Capture’ button that is expected to arrive later this year.

Another image recently shared by the same tipster showed the purported iPhone 16 Pro model with a cutout for what could be the Capture button on the upcoming flagship handset from Apple. Meanwhile, the colour options for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max have also been leaked, and the company’s premium smartphones could arrive in four colour options later this year.

iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro Max Tipped to Pack Bigger Batteries Than Their Predecessors

iPhone 16 series, which is expected to include four models —iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, Phone 16 Pro, and Phone 16 Pro Max— could be unveiled sometime in the second half of this year. Unsurprisingly, loads of leaks and rumours have already started circulating online and we now get the first hints about the battery capacity of the upcoming iPhone 16 series. The batteries of the iPhone 16 Pro series could be large compared to the iPhone 15 series. The vanilla iPhone 16 is said to sport a 3,561mAh cell, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max is tipped to come with a 4,676mAh battery.

Tipster Majin Bu (@MajinBuOfficial) has posted the battery specifications of the iPhone 16 series on X. The iPhone 16‌ Pro models are said to be equipped with larger batteries than their predecessors. The ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus, in contrast, might see a downgrade in battery capacity compared to last year’s model, according to details that have surfaced online.

As per the leak, the iPhone 16 will carry a 3,561mAh battery and the iPhone 16 Plus could pack a 4,006mAh battery. The iPhone 16 Pro Max is tipped to feature a 4,676mAh battery. The battery details of the iPhone 16 Pro are not available at this moment. The top-end iPhone 16 Pro Max is said to see an internal redesign in the battery setup, using a rectangular shape instead of an L-shaped one.

Apple typically keeps its iPhone battery capacities under wraps, but the tipster claims that the iPhone 15 has a 3,349mAh battery unit and the iPhone 15 Plus has a 4,383mAh battery. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is said to be backed by a 4,422mAh battery. These are mostly in line with battery capacities revealed from previous teardown videos of the handsets.

The iPhone 15 series arrived with rechargeable lithium‑ion battery units. The battery of non-Pro models is claimed to offer up to 26 hours of video playback time on a single charge, while the battery unit of Pro models is said to deliver a maximum 29 hours of video playback time on a single charge. The regular iPhone 15 models are powered by the A16 Bionic chip that was unveiled in 2022. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max run on Apple’s next-generation A17 Pro chip.

The price of the iPhone 15 in India starts at Rs. 79,900, while the iPhone 15 Plus starts at Rs. 89,900. The iPhone 15 Pro, on the other hand, is priced at Rs. 1,39,900 for the base 128GB storage model, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at Rs. 1,59,900 for the base 256GB of storage variant.

iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max Tipped to Get Larger Displays, Regular Models May Stick to 60Hz Displays

iPhone 15 series has barely been on the market for two months now but multiple rumours about next year’s iPhone 16 series have already started surfacing online. Now, a rumour suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro models will bring larger displays. The iPhone 16 Pro is said to feature a 6.27-inch display while the iPhone 16 Pro Max could pack a 6.86-inch display. Meanwhile, Apple is said to stick to a 60Hz display on the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models similar to their iPhone 15 counterparts. The Pro variants could get 120Hz screen.

A new post by the South Korean blog Naver claims that Apple could pack a 6.27-inch display on the iPhone 16 Pro and a 6.86-inch display on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The Pro models could use 120Hz displays based on the low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) technology.

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models, in contrast, are said to maintain 6.12-inch and 6.69-inch displays with 60Hz refresh rate respectively, the same size and refresh rate as the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. This year’s iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro sport 6.1-inch OLED displays, while the iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro Max come with larger 6.7-inch OLED displays. Both iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models support ProMotion with a refresh rate that ranges between 1Hz and 120Hz. The vanilla and Plus models in the iPhone 16 family could still feature 60Hz LTPO displays. Additionally, all models in the lineup are expected to feature a Dynamic Island.

The new leak lines up with what DSCC analyst Ross Young previously claimed in May. According to Young, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models launching in 2024 will feature around 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes, respectively. He believes that regular models will maintain 6.1 and 6.7-inch displays. Known tipster Revegnus (@Tech_Reve) also corroborated this possibility.

iPhone 15 series went on sale in India in September. The price of the iPhone 15 in India starts at Rs. 79,900 for the base model with 128GB of storage, while the iPhone 15 Plus starts at Rs. 89,900 for the 128GB storage variant. The iPhone 15 Pro, on the other hand, is priced at Rs. 1,39,900 for the base 128GB storage model, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at Rs. 1,59,900 for the base 256GB of storage variant.

The regular iPhone 15 models are powered by Apple’s A16 Bionic chip. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are equipped with the company’s next-generation A17 Pro SoC.

iPhone 16 Series Might Feature a Capture Button, Pro Models May Get Moulded Glass for Telephoto Camera

iPhone 16 series launch is at least a year away, however, hardware details of the upcoming series are already appearing on the Web. A tipster has suggested that the iPhone 16 will get an additional “capture button.” Apple could also relocate the mmWave antenna to the left side in the iPhone 16 lineup. Additionally, a new supply chain report indicates that lens manufacturer Largan will exclusively manufacture telephoto lenses for the iPhone 16 Pro. The camera lens will reportedly include moulded glass that is said to be thinner and lighter compared to traditional glass.

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max unveiled in September feature an Action Button that replaced the mute switch. However, tipster Instant Digital (translated from Chinese) (via MacRumors) on Weibo claims that next year’s iPhone 16 series will come with an additional button, internally known as the “capture button”.

The functionality of the new button is unknown at the moment, but it is said to sit below the power button. It will likely be a capacitive button rather than a standard button. Apple could also relocate the mmWave antenna to the left of the device instead of the right to accommodate the change. The volume keys and the power keys are said to remain the same with no changes.

Separately, a report by Chinese publication Economic Daily states that Apple will use moulded glass lenses for the iPhone 16 Pro models’ telephoto cameras. Largan will reportedly exclusively manufacture telephoto lenses for the 2024 iPhone Pro models. The moulded glass is said to be thinner and lighter compared to traditional glass. Due to their inherent complexity, Apple is prepping for next year’s iPhone Pro models by hogging the supply chain with orders.

Past reports have claimed that iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will ship with an A18 Pro Bionic chip based on a 3nm process. The normal iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus could get a toned-down version of the A17 Pro chip. Apple will reportedly use stacked battery technology from electric vehicles for the entire iPhone 16 lineup.

iPhone 16 Pro Models to Get New Ultrawide Camera, Snapdragon X75 Modem, Wi-Fi 7: Report

Apple’s iPhone 15 series is still brand new in the market, but rumours have already begun about next year’s iPhone 16 lineup. Despite the phone being a year away from release, a new report suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will come with a 0.2-inch larger display compared to the iPhone 15 Pro models. They could pack Qualcomm’s latest cellular modem for improved 5G performance. Apple is said to retain the Snapdragon X70 modem in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. Further, the Pro models are said to offer Wi-Fi 7 connectivity and might get a new ultra-wide lens on the rear.

As per a report by 9to5Mac citing tech analyst Jeff Pu of Haitong International Securities, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models launching in 2024 will feature around 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes, respectively. If this rumour turns out to be true, it would be a major screen size upgrade over the outgoing iPhone 15 models. Pu affirms they will pack Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon X75 cellular modem to enable faster and more efficient 5G connectivity.

The analyst states that the regular iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will continue to use the Snapdragon X70 modem. The latest iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max all feature a Snapdragon X70 modem inside. Similarly, the iPhone 16 Pro model will reportedly offer Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, while the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are said to get an upgrade to Wi-Fi 6E. This year’s Pro models have Wi-Fi 6E support.

Further, Jeff Pu adds that both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models will have a 12-megapixel tetra-prism lens for better zoom. The Pro lineup is said to include a newer ultra-wide lens as well. Apple will pack a new 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera on the Pro models, adds Pu. This would be a noteworthy upgrade over the iPhone 15 Pro’s 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera.

According to Pu, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be powered by an A18 Pro Bionic chip based on a 3nm process, while the normal iPhone 16 models will get a toned-down version of the A17 Pro chip. For the regular iPhone 16, Pu notes that Apple will pack two rear camera sensors without optical zoom.

The speculation from Jeff Pu is in line with past reports. DSCC analyst Ross Young earlier in May also opined that iPhone 16 Pro models will get a screen size update.

Apple’s iPhone 15 series was launched during its Wonderlust event last month. The iPhone 15 Pro starts at Rs. 1,39,900 for the base 128GB storage model in India, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max begins at Rs. 1,59,900. They are currently up for sale in the country.
