Apple’s New iPad Air, iPad Pro Get Battery Health Menu That Limits Charging to 80 Percent: Report

Apple unveiled the new iPad Pro with an M4 chip and the iPad Air lineup with an M2 chip at its ‘Let Loose’ event earlier this month. The Cupertino giant has reportedly added a new Battery Health menu on the 2024 generation tablets similar to the iPhone 15 series. This menu will show optimised charging options and data about the battery. It would allow users to limit the battery charge percentage to maximise lifespan. This setting will hold the battery charge at 80 percent before reaching 100 percent. The menu will list the cycle count as well. Signs of Battery Health menu were first spotted in the iPadOS 17.5 code.

Dutch website iCulture (via Macrumors) claims that the new iPad models launched this month feature the Battery Health menu for the first time. This can be accessed by heading to Settings > Battery > Battery Health. The new option reportedly lists charge cycle count, and maximum capacity and lets users set the maximum charging limit to 80 percent to protect the lifespan of the internal battery and reduce the chances of overheating and overcharging.

The Battery Health menu could show the manufacturing date of the battery and the date of first use. This battery health feature is already available on the iPhone 15 series. This feature was reportedly discovered in the iPadOS 17.5 beta code last month. This facility would allow iPad users to check the maximum battery capacity without depending on third-party apps.

Apple unveiled the iPad Air with M2 chip and iPad Pro models with M4 chips at its Lets Loose event last week. The iPad Air is released in 10.9-inch and 13-inch display options with a Liquid Retina (LCD) screen. The iPad Pro features a ‘Tandem OLED’ screen and is available in 11-inch and 13-inch display options. All new models run on iPadOS 17.

The price of the iPad Pro (2024) starts at Rs. 99,900 for the base model with an 11-inch screen. The iPad Air (2024) has an initial price tag of Rs. 59,900 for the base 11-inch model.

Apple iPad Pro, iPad Air Hit by Production Delays Ahead of Anticipated Debut in May: Report

Apple is rumoured to launch new iPad Pro and iPad Air models in the coming weeks, but a new report reveals that the tech giant’s supply chain is affected by repeated delays, which might impact the launch timeline of the upcoming devices. An earlier report suggested that the new iPad Pro could be equipped with the M3 chipset and feature thinner bezels. A new iPad Air with a 12.9-inch display and the M2 chipset is also expected to be unveiled by Apple.

According to a report by DigiTimes Asia (via MacRumors), the mass production of camera lenses for the upcoming iPad models has been “repeatedly postponed”. Citing Taiwanese suppliers as the source, the report highlighted that it could lead to minimal delays. However, it is also said that a “production launch” could occur in May. It is not certain what a production launch means, but separate reports have suggested that Apple’s iPad lineup could be introduced in early May.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently suggested that next-generation iPad Pro and iPad Air models could arrive in early May, revising his earlier speculation that the products could be unveiled in March or early April. Citing people familiar with the matter, Gurman had stated that the delays were caused by the device’s software not being finished. Further, “complex manufacturing techniques” for the new display for the devices were also mentioned as the reason for the delay.

The Bloomberg report also mentioned that four new iPad Pro variants could be introduced this year. Codenamed J717, J718, J720, and J721, all of the models are rumoured to feature new OLED displays, the M3 chipset, a revamped rear camera module, a landscape-oriented front camera, and support for MagSafe wireless charging.

In addition, the Pro models could also sport thinner bezels, slimmer bodies, and will be available in “glossy and matte screen versions.” The 11-inch variant is tipped to get 7.12mm thick bezels whereas the 12.9-inch variant might come with 7.08mm thick bezels.

On the other hand, the iPad Air models are touted to be powered by the M2 chipset and include a landscape-oriented front camera. The biggest upgrade, however, is said to be the first-ever 12.9-inch model for the iPad Air series.

Apple’s New iPad Pro, iPad Air Models Likely to Launch in May: Mark Gurman

Apple is expected to refresh its iPad Pro and iPad Air models. Over the past few months, several leaks and reports about the purported tablets have surfaced online. The new iPad Pro and iPad Air are expected to get larger displays and new chipsets.. Recent leaks suggested that the Apple would launch these iPad models in April. However, a new report now suggests that the launch of the next generation iPad Pro and iPad Air has been pushed further.

In a report, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says that Apple is likely to unveil the much awaited iPad Pro and iPad Air models in early May, about a month ahead of its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) that’s scheduled to begin on June 10. He added that Apple suppliers are currently boosting the production of the expected iPad models.

An earlier report by Gurman claimed that the products may be launched by the end of March or in April. Gurman now states that the delay is owed to “software work for the devices” and the “complex new manufacturing techniques” of the new displays the models are tipped to get.

Four new iPad Pro variants codenamed J717, J718, J720, and J721 are expected to be powered by Apple’s new M3 chipset and are said to support “redesigned versions of Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil,” according to the report.

Apple has also reportedly been working to get OLED screens on the upcoming iPad models. The iPad Air, which is currently only available in a 10.9-inch size, is also expected to come with a 12.9-inch display. The next-generation iPad Air models are tipped to get M2 chipsets and are also likely to feature landscape-oriented front cameras.

Meanwhile, another recent leak suggested that the upcoming iPad Pro models will sport thinner bezels and will be available in “glossy and matte screen versions.” A tipster claimed that the 11-inch variant will have a 7.12mm bezel, while the 12.9-inch option will have a 7.08mm bezel, which is 10 and 15 percent smaller, respectively, compared to their 2022 models.

Apple to Reportedly Announce New Devices Soon; New iPad Pro, iPad Air, MacBook Air Models Tipped

Apple is reportedly gearing up to announce multiple devices soon but without much fanfare. The Cupertino-based tech giant is said to refresh its tablet lineup with its new silicon via a press release, after skipping it in 2023. Alongside, new MacBook Air models, a new colour option for iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, and several other products could also be launched by the company, a report has claimed. While the iPad Pro, iPad Air, and MacBook Air models could be introduced as soon as this week, the rest of the products are believed to be announced by April 2024.

Citing unnamed sources “familiar with the matter”, a MacRumors report claimed that Apple could launch new devices this week itself. It does not reveal however which products are expected to be announced or when exactly might this announcement occur. However, it is not the only report to claim that Apple is planning to introduce multiple products.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, in his Power On newsletter, said, “Apple has a lot of new hardware in store for release in the next several weeks. That includes revamped iPad Pro models and an updated iPad Air that adds a 12.9-inch screen option, as well as fresh Apple Pencils and Magic Keyboards for the high-end iPads. On the Mac front, there are 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air variants coming with the speedier M3 chip. All of these new products are in production overseas, and Apple’s marketing teams are preparing to announce them relatively soon.”

As per reports, the list could include significant upgrades to two new iPad Pro models. The Apple tablets are expected to be equipped with the M3 chipset, OLED panels, a redesigned rear camera module, a landscape-oriented front camera, a slimmer body, and more. This would be the first time in more than five years that the Pro models are getting such a major update.

Two new iPad Air models are also expected to be introduced and feature the M2 chipsets. The biggest highlight from this lineup is reported to be the company’s first-ever 12.9-inch iPad Air model. MacBook Air is also said to get a refresh in the coming weeks. New 13-inch and 15-inch models powered by the M3 SoC and support for WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 could be unveiled.

Apart from these, a new Magic Keyboard with a larger trackpad, a new Apple Pencil, and new shades for iPhone cases and Apple Watch bands are also expected. It is also the time when the tech giant traditionally unveils a new colour option for the latest iPhone series. The report has mentioned that the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus might be the first to get a new finish in the coming weeks.

Despite being significant releases for the company, the latest reports claim that no event will be held for these devices, and they will be launched via multiple press releases over the next few weeks.

iPad Air, iPad Pro 2024 Models Said to Get Thinner; Full Dimensions Tipped

Apple is readying new iPad Pro and iPad Air models for launch this year after the tech giant skipped refreshing its tablet lineup in 2023. The new iPad Air will reportedly run on Apple’s in-house M2 chip, while the higher-end iPad Pro could get the M3 chip that powers the latest MacBook Pro models. Now, a new report has tipped the full dimensions of the upcoming iPad Air and iPad Pro models.

It’s been previously reported that new iPad Air and iPad Pro models will likely come in two display sizes. The iPad Air is said to arrive in a new 12.9-inch model for the first time, alongside the regular 10.9-inch model. According to a report from 9to5Mac, the 12.9-inch iPad Air will likely sport the same dimensions as the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro. The report, which cites sources familiar with the development, claims that the larger iPad Air will measure 280.6mm x 214.9mm x 6.0mm in size — the same as the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro, except a little thinner.

The new iPad Pro models, on the other hand, are said to see a slight increase in size, while also becoming thinner. The report says the new OLED displays on the Pro variant tablets, which have fewer layers than an LCD display, will result in a thinner iPad Pro. The new 11-inch iPad Pro will reportedly measure 249.7mm x 177.5mm x 5.1mm in size, compared to the 247.6mm x 178.5mm x 5.9mm dimensions of the present 11-inch model. The larger 12.9-inch model is said to measure 281.5mm x 215.5mm x 5.0mm in size — 1.4mm thinner than the current corresponding model.

Bear in mind that these dimensions are just estimates and the final product could turn out to be different. Apple has not yet confirmed the new iPad models, but Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported that a refreshed iPad Air and iPad Pro lineup could arrive by March.

Additionally, the iPad Pro models are also likely to be the first Apple tablets to get OLED displays, which bring better contrast and black levels compared to mini-LED screens. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, too, had said last year that the new iPad Pro tablets would likely ditch the mini-LED displays for OLED screens.

Last month, alleged CAD (computer-aided design) renders of the purported 2.9-inch iPad Air surfaced online, hinting at the design and form factor of the upcoming tablet. The renders suggested a slight redesign of the camera unit, a slimmer body, and a USB Type-C port for charging.

Apple to Launch MacBook Air With M3 Chip, iPad Pro Models With OLED Screens in Q1 2023: Report

Apple is reportedly working on new MacBook models powered by the company’s latest M3 processor, and iPad Pro models equipped with OLED displays, according to a Bloomberg report citing people aware of the company’s plans. The iPhone maker is also reportedly planning to launch an iPad Air in two display sizes. Unlike previous years, Apple is yet to unveil a new iPad model this year, and the company’s next tablets are expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2024.

Bloomberg reports that Apple is planning to launch a new iPad Air model that will succeed the 10.9-inch iPad Air (2022). While its predecessor was available in two models — Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + Cellular — Apple is reportedly preparing four new models, as the next iPad Air will be available in 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch display sizes.

Meanwhile, the company’s next generation iPad Pro models will also be launched by the company, as per the report. These will be the first models by the company to sport OLED screens that offer better contrast and black levels compared to mini-LED screens. Apple will also equip the iPad Pro models with its newest M3 chip that was launched in October when it unveiled its latest Mac models.

The upcoming iPad Pro models won’t be the only devices from Apple to debut with the new M3 chip — the company is reportedly preparing to launch a new MacBook Air model that will feature the same chip. Apple launched new MacBook Pro models with its latest Apple Silicon processor under the hood in October, and the successor to the MacBook Air M2, which will be priced lower than the Pro models, will soon be equipped with the M3 chip.

Customers can expect both the new iPad and MacBook models to be launched around March 2024, according to the report, which states that Apple is also planning on launching two new Magic Keyboard variants for the upcoming iPad Pro models and a third-generation Apple Pencil.

While Bloomberg has a good track record in terms of predicting launch timelines of Apple’s upcoming products, the company is yet to make an announcement related to new iPad and MacBook models. We can expect to learn more about the company’s purported products closer to the launch date.

Apple to Debut Apple Pencil 3 With Replaceable Tips This Week Instead of Refreshed iPad Models: Report

Apple is reportedly planning to unveil new models of its iPad lineup this week, with the iPad, iPad Air, and iPad mini said to be getting refreshed. The new iPad models could get updated chipsets, with the new iPad Air likely to come with an M2 chip. According to a new report, however, the Cupertino, California-based tech giant seems to be gearing up to launch a new Apple Pencil instead. Apple is believed to be close to launching the Apple Pencil 3. The iPhone maker currently sells the first and second generations of Apple Pencil, compatible with its iPad models.

According to a report in Japanese outlet MacOtakara, Apple will likely launch the third-generation Apple Pencil this week. The Apple Pencil 3 will reportedly come with replaceable magnetic tips. The same was confirmed by tipster Majin Bu on X (formerly Twitter), as well. “Based on what my source reported the new Apple Pencil 3 will come with interchangeable magnetic tips (for drawing, technical drawing and painting),” the tipster said in their post.

Apple has not officially announced plans to launch iPad refreshes, Apple Pencil or any other devices. Several reports, however, have said that the company is likely to bring new iPad models this week. A report from Supercharged claimed that the iPad Air model could be refreshed with an M2 chip, while the iPad mini, which currently runs on Apple’s A15 Bionic, could get the A16 Bionic SoC.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, however, said in his weekly newsletter that while Apple was working on new iPad models, a launch this week was unlikely. If the new report is to be believed, however, the Apple Pencil 3 could soon be on its way.

Earlier this year, Apple reportedly filed a patent for an optical sensor on its next-generation Apple Pencil that could allow the device to copy the texture and the colour from the surface of an item.

Apple currently sells the second-generation Apple Pencil at Rs. 11,900. The Apple Pencil 2 features wireless pairing and charging and attaches magnetically to your iPad device. It is compatible with iPad Pro models, iPad Air, and iPad mini. The first-generation Apple Pencil, on the other hand, is priced at Rs. 9,500 and pairs and charges via a lightening connector on top.
