iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro Display Production Said to Begin in June; iPhone 16 Pro Max Tipped to Get Upgraded Battery

iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro are expected to launch in the second half of 2024 and production of components for Apple’s next generation of smartphones is likely to start in the coming weeks, according to details shared by Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) CEO and Co-Founder Ross Young. Meanwhile, TF Securities International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple will upgrade the top-of-the-line iPhone 16 Pro Max with a new battery that offers improved battery life compared to its predecessor.

Young states (via 9to5Mac) in a subscriber-only post on X (formerly Twitter) that Apple will soon begin production of displays for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models, as these are the two models with the highest projected volume. The analyst also said that the other two models in the series — the iPhone 16 Plus and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to take place at a later stage.

Meanwhile, Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be upgraded with a new battery with higher energy density than the current generation iPhone 15 Pro Max. If Apple decides to equip the handset with the same battery capacity as its 2023 flagship model, it could lead to improved battery life on the upcoming model. Kuo also states that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be encased in stainless steel — Apple currently uses aluminium on its existing smartphones.

This year, Apple is expected to increase the size of two models in the iPhone 16 series. According to previous reports — and recently leaked dummy images — the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to debut with 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, respectively — an increase of 0.2 inches on both models compared to last year’s Pro and Pro Max models. The other two handsets are expected to arrive with the same display sizes as their predecessors.

The iPhone 16 Pro models are also tipped to arrive with an upgraded OLED screen that offers a 20 percent increase in peak brightness while displaying standard dynamic range (SDR) content. This means SDR content on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max might be displayed at a peak brightness of 1,200nits, peak brightness for HDR content could remain unchanged at 1,600 nits.

iPhone 16 Pro Max Dummy Unit Images Leak Hinting at Larger Display Than iPhone 15 Pro Max

iPhone 16 Pro Max could arrive later this year with a larger display compared to the current generation flagship phone from Apple, according to recent reports. Now, images of a dummy unit for the purported handset have leaked online, alongside the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The screen on this year’s handset could be slightly larger, as per the images shared by a tipster on X (formerly Twitter). Apple’s iPhone 16 series is also tipped to arrive with a dedicated ‘Capture’ button, which is also seen in the leaked photos.

A tipster known as Majin Bu (X: @MajunBuOfficial) leaked three images of the rumoured iPhone 16 Pro Max. The images contain dummy units of the handset, alongside the company’s current gen flagship — the iPhone 15 Pro Max — for comparison. According to reports, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will sport a 6.9-inch display, which means the screen is expected to be 0.2mm larger than its predecessor.

While the images suggest a slight increase in size, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is unlikely to be much larger than the current generation iPhone 15 Pro Max. The dummy unit does not give us an idea of the bezels, or whether the upgraded display it will allow the company to offer a higher resolution.

The leaked dummy unit is also shown to have a rear camera module that is slightly taller that the already large one on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, it’s too early to tell whether the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a larger or taller rear camera, based on a leaked image of a dummy unit.

Another hardware addition to the iPhone 16 series — Apple’s rumoured Capture button — is also visible on the iPhone 16 Pro Max dummy unit. Earlier reports have suggested that all four models in the iPhone 16 lineup are likely to be equipped with the new button, while the Action button on the iPhone 15 Pro models could also make its way to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus this year.

iPhone 16 Pro Display Tipped to Offer 20 Percent Increase in Brightness Compared to iPhone 15 Pro

iPhone 16 Pro is expected to arrive later this year as the successor to the iPhone 15 Pro and the company’s next-generation smartphones could feature an upgraded display, according to a tipster. While Apple’s Pro handsets can go up to 1,000 nits of brightness, the purported iPhone 16 Pro models could offer a 20 percent increase in brightness for standard dynamic range (SDR) content, along with slightly larger panels. The smartphones are also tipped to arrive with an upgraded chip and a new ‘Capture’ button later this year.

Tipster Instant Digital (translated from Chinese) claims in a Weibo post that the iPhone 16 Pro will support up to 1,200 nits of typical brightness, when the handset is displaying SDR content. This is a 20 percent increase over the 1,000 nits limit on the iPhone 15 Pro models. Meanwhile, the tipster says that the peak brightness for HDR content will be 1,600 nits, which means that customers should not expect any changes over the current generation handsets.

The increase in brightness isn’t the only display-related change coming to the iPhone 16 Pro models — Apple is likely to increase the size of the display panels on both Pro handsets, according to reports. The purported iPhone 16 Pro‌‌ and iPhone 16 Pro‌‌ Max models are said to be equipped with 6.27-inch (159.31 mm) and 6.85-inch (174.06 mm) displays, respectively.

Last month, it was reported that the iPhone 16 an iPhone 16 Pro models could make their debut later this year with larger batteries. However, the iPhone 16 Plus model could arrive with a smaller battery than the current generation iPhone 15 Plus, according to a tipster.

Other upgrades likely to arrive on the iPhone 16 Pro models include a faster A18 chip, which is also expected to power on-device generative AI features on the company’s iOS 18 mobile operating system. This year, Apple is also tipped to introduce a new ‘Capture’ button on the iPhone 16 series that will allow users to quickly take photos with a tap, according to reports.

iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus Tipped to Arrive in Seven Colour Options, Two More than iPhone 15 Lineup

Apple’s iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to debut later this year with a few design changes, such as a new vertically aligned camera layout and the Action button that arrived last year on the iPhone 15 Pro. A tipster now claims that Apple will introduce its next iPhone models in two additional colour options this year. An earlier report suggested that the iPhone 16 Pro models will swap two existing colourways on the iPhone 15 Pro models with new ones.

According to a post by tipster Fixed Focus Digital (translated from Chinese) on Weibo, the upcoming iPhone 16 Plus (as well as the regular iPhone 16) will be available in Black, Blue, Green, Pink, Purple, White, and Yellow colourways. The Purple and White options are new additions, while the others will be the same from the standard iPhone 15 models.

While five of the seven rumoured colour options are the same as the iPhone 15 models, Apple could still launch its upcoming handsets different shades. The current generation iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus colour options are more muted with a matte finish on the rear panel — especially the Blue variant — compared to their predecessors, while this year’s models might be more vibrant.

Earlier this year, it was reported that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be launched in new grey and gold finishes. These two are expected to replace two existing ones from the iPhone 15 Pro lineup — Apple only introduces its Pro models in four colourways every year. This year’s iPhone 16 Pro models could arrive in new Desert Titanium and Titanium Grey colourways.

The upcoming iPhone 16 series is likely to debut in the second half of 2024, based on Apple’s previous release timelines. Before these phones are unveiled, Apple is also expected to show off new software features coming to users as part of iOS 18, macOS 15, and other software updates at its upcoming WWDC 2024 event that begins on June 10.

iPhone 16 Pro Models’ Thinner Bezels Pose Challenge to Apple Suppliers: Report

iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max could arrive later this year with even slimmer bezels than their predecessors, according to previous reports. The successors to last year’s iPhone 15 Pro series — which also arrived with thinner bezels than the company’s 2022 models — are also said to sport slightly larger screens, while reducing the black borders around the screen. However, the production of these displays is proving to be difficult for Apple’s suppliers, according to a report.

The Elec reports (via 9to5Mac) that Apple is using its Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology to reduce the size of the bottom bezel on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. In order to achieve this, the company is utilising an under-display technology (related to wiring and circuits) that has started to pose a challenge for Apple’s component suppliers, and the report states that none of Apple’s suppliers have managed to produce enough units to meet the company’s standards.

Apple is expected to rely on three suppliers for the iPhone 16 series of smartphones, according to the report. BOE (Jingdongfang) could produce displays for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, while LG Display could supply OLED screens for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Meanwhile, Samsung Display is reportedly expected to produce screens for all four models in the lineup.

While the size of bezels could get smaller on this year’s iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, there’s currently no details related to the ones on the standard models — the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. These handsets are tipped to arrive with a refreshed rear camera module, which will feature a new vertical layout, Apple’s first change to the camera island since the iPhone 13 was introduced in 2021.

Recently leaked images of purported dummy units of all four models in the iPhone 16 series appear to corroborate the claims made in previous leaks, The new vertical pill-shaped camera island is visible on the standard models, while all four models are shown to feature an Action button and the new ‘capture’ button that is said to be making its way to the iPhone 16 series later this year.

iPhone 16 Pro Colour Options Tipped; Leaked Case Hints at Location of Capture Button

iPhone 16 Pro could arrive in four colourways when the handset makes its debut in the second half of 2024, and the company could replace two colour options introduced last year. Apple started using titanium instead of stainless steel for the body of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max in four colour options. Meanwhile, a leaked image of what appears to be an iPhone 16 Pro case gives us an idea of where the new Capture button will be located on the smartphone.

According to details leaked by a tipster (in Chinese) via a Weibo post, the iPhone 16 Pro will arrive in Gray, Rose, Space Black, and White, colourways. While the gray and white colours appear to be the same as the options from the iPhone 15 Pro models, it looks like the black and blue colour options will be replaced with space black and rose colours, respectively.

Meanwhile, an image of a case for the purported iPhone 16 Pro leaked by X (formerly Twitter) user Sonny Dickson (via GSMArena) appears to indicate where Apple’s rumoured capture button could be located on the handset. After introducing the programmable Action button with the iPhone 15 Pro models, Apple is tipped to introduce a new button that could be used to quickly launch the camera and capture images or video, according to recent reports.

The leaked image suggests that the capture button could be located on the right side of the phone, under the power button — this is in line with leaked renders of the Pro models that surfaced online earlier this month. One can also see that the case covers the power button, while the location of the rumoured capture button is exposed. It is worth taking these claims with a grain of salt as the cutout could also be used to house other components such as an mmWave 5G antenna.

Expected to debut as part of the iPhone 16 series of smartphones later this year, the iPhone 16 Pro is said to be powered by an 3nm A18 Pro chip, with improved neural engine performance, while the top-of-the-line model is expected to pack a larger battery. The upgraded chip is tipped to enable support for more on-device AI features on the iPhone 16 Pro models, according to recent reports.

iPhone 16 Pro Models Tipped to Offer On-Device AI Performance With A18 Pro Chipset

iPhone 15 series was launched only about seven months ago, but, the iPhone 16 series is already among the most anticipated phones of 2024. The lineup is said to include four models — iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Early reports suggest that the Cupertino-based tech giant is preparing an A18 Pro processor for the upcoming iPhone lineup with a key focus on artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. Apple used an older A16 chip on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models and an all-new A17 Pro chip on the Pro models.

As reported by 9to5Mac, Jeff Pu of Haitong International Tech Research revealed details about the A18 Pro processor in his research note. According to the analyst, Apple is planning changes to the A18 Pro chip for on-device artificial intelligence. The company is ramping up chip production earlier than usual.

“According to our supply chain checks, we are seeing growing demand for Apple’s A18, while its A17 Pro volume has stabilised since February. We note Apple’s A18 Pro, the 6-GPU version, will feature a larger die area (compared to A17 Pro), which could be a trend for edge AI computing”, Pu wrote in his note. The larger die area indicates that the chip will be able to accommodate more transistors and specialised components. This would make ground for more on-device AI capabilities in the iPhone 16 Pro lineup.

Increasing the die area in a chip is said to increase the risks of defects and design flaws. It could also affect energy efficiency and heat dissipation.

Apple is reportedly anticipated to take a split approach to its AI features this year. It could rely on cloud infrastructure in partnership with Google for some AI features while running other features completely on the device.

The iPhone 16 lineup is expected to debut in the second half of this year with major changes and upgrades. The standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to feature the A18 SoC while the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max could get an A18 Pro chip. The A18 Pro recently surfaced on Geekbench 6 with 3,500 points on the single-core test and 8,200 on the multi-core test.

iPhone 16 Pro Leaked Renders Suggest New Design With Capture Button

iPhone 16 Pro is expected to be unveiled later this year in September. Previous leaks and reports about the handset have suggested several key specifications and some design changes. A new report has now surfaced that shares leaked CAD renders of the iPhone 16 Pro. The renders suggest the possible design of the handset. The upcoming iPhone 16 lineup is likely to include the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. They are said to succeed the iPhone 15 series of smartphones that Apple introduced in September 2023.

Leaked CAD renders of the iPhone 16 Pro shared by 91Mobiles show a new button on the right edge of the handset, placed below the power button. It is said to be the Capture Button that will have capacitive touch and act as a photo or video capture trigger. The button may also help users adjust focus and zoom levels.

The report also claims that the Action Button on the iPhone 16 Pro could be larger than the one on the preceding iPhone 15 Pro. The report adds that the handset is likely to measure 149.6mm x 71.4mm x 8.4mm in size, which is larger than the older model. It is also tipped to get a 6.3-inch display with thinner bezels.

Moreover, the rear camera module of the iPhone 16 Pro is said to share a similar design as the iPhone 15 Pro. In the leaked renders, the module is seen housing three camera sensors, a LiDAR module, a microphone, and a flash unit. It is also expected to feature a 5x tetraprism telephoto camera and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera. The phone is also tipped to carry a larger 3,355mAh battery.

Recently, the iPhone 16 Pro has also been tipped to launch in Desert Titanium and Titanium Grey colours. The former shade is said to be similar to the gold colour option in the iPhone 14 Pro models, while the latter is likely to resemble the Space Grey option that was available with iPhone 6.

iPhone 16 Leaked Camera Module Hints at Vertical Rear Camera Layout

Apple’s purported iPhone 16 series of smartphones could arrive with a redesigned rear camera layout, according to details shared by a tipster. A leaked image of what is said to be the camera module of the iPhone 16 model suggests that the handset could be the first model since the iPhone 12 with a vertically positioned camera layout. A sketchy leak also suggests that the iPhone 16 lineup will comprise five models, with a “Plus SE” model said to replace the 6.7-inch Plus model.

An image shared by X (formerly Twitter) user Majin Bu on the microblogging platform of the purported camera module of the iPhone 16 appear to corroborate previous reports that the phone would feature a vertical camera layout. MacRumors reports that it was able to independently verify the I-34 camera project component was authentic via industry sources.

The X user recently leaked images of what appear to be renders of the iPhone 16 series of smartphones. Unlike the iPhone 15 lineup, the company could launch five models this year, according to the leaked images. These could be the iPhone 16 SE, iPhone 16 Plus SE, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

The iPhone SE models are shown to feature a single rear camera, while the standard iPhone 16 model has two, in a vertical layout. The company’s high-end iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are shown to feature a vertically aligned triple rear camera layout. However, it is worth taking this claim with a grain of salt as the X user says they have no information on the source of the image.

The changes to the camera layout on the iPhone 16 lineup aren’t the only ones expected to arrive on the smartphone — Apple is also expected to equip all models in the series with an Action Button (introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro models) and a dedicated Capture button which is said to provide quick access to the camera.

It’s worth noting that there are several months until Apple’s purported iPhone 16 models are likely to be launched. It’s also unclear whether Apple will drop the successor to the iPhone 15 Plus for a larger iPhone 16 Plus SE model with a single camera, and whether it will have a lower price tag than last year’s 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus. More details about the company’s 2024 iPhone models are likely to surface in the coming months.

iPhone 16 Series Schematics Tip Design, May Include iPhone 16 SE, iPhone 16 Plus SE Models

iPhone 16 series is expected to debut later this year like most iPhone releases, with leaks and rumours about the upcoming lineup already making the rounds on the Web. In a new update, the schematics, specifications and possible pricing of the iPhone 16 series have surfaced online. The image offers a brief look at the possible rear design of the upcoming handsets and suggests a major design overhaul with a vertical camera layout. The lineup is tipped to include iPhone 16 SE, iPhone 16 Plus SE, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max models.

Schematics shared by tipster Majin Bu (@MajinBuOfficial) indicate that the iPhone 16 series will comprise five distinct models — iPhone 16 SE, iPhone 16 Plus SE, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. This suggests the merger of the iPhone SE product line into the iPhone 16 portfolio.

The renders show a single pill-shaped rear camera layout for the iPhone 16 SE and iPhone 16 Plus SE with an offset flash., reminiscent of the iPhone X. The vanilla iPhone 16 is seen with a dual rear camera unit. In contrast, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are seen with triple rear camera setups. All three models appear to have a vertical camera arrangement with pill-shaped camera bumps seemingly corroborating previous leaks. The current iPhone 15 series features a square-shaped camera bump with horizontally placed sensors.

The tipster has also posted possible pricing of the iPhone 16 series as a comment on X. The iPhone 16 SE is tipped to cost $699 (roughly Rs. 58,000) for the 128GB version, while the iPhone 6 SE Plus could be priced at $799 (roughly Rs. 66,000) for the 256GB variant. The 256GB version of the vanilla iPhone 16 could come with a price tag of $699, while the 256GB variant of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are said to be priced at $999 (roughly Rs. 83,000) and $1099 (roughly Rs. 91,000), respectively.

The iPhone 16 SE is said to feature a 6.1-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The iPhone 16 Plus SE is likely to get a 6.7-inch display with 60Hz display. Both these models are said to get the Dynamic Island feature. The regular iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models are rumoured to get 6.3-inch screens with 120Hz refresh rate, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max is tipped to pack a larger 6.9-inch screen with 120Hz refresh rate.

The iPhone 16 series is expected to go official in September this year. Apple is anticipated to pack an A18 Pro Bionic chip based on a 3nm process on the Pro models, while the regular iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus could run on a toned-down version of the A17 Pro chip.
