iPhone 15 Series Reportedly Scheduled to Launch on September 13

Apple has a history of launching its new iPhone models in September and the iPhone 15 series could continue this practise. As per a latest report, the launch of iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will also take place in September. Last year, Apple held its ‘Far Out’ launch event on September 7 where it unveiled the iPhone 14 models. The Cupertino company has remained tight-lipped on the details of the new iPhone 15 series. However, several leaks and rumours have suggested possible specifications and pricing for the handsets. The vanilla models are expected to run on Apple’s A16 Bionic SoC, while the iPhone 15 Pro models are tipped to be powered by A17 Bionic SoC.

If this report by 9to5Mac is to be believed, Apple will hold a launch event for iPhone 15 lineup on Wednesday, September 13. The report, citing multiple sources, states that mobile carriers have been requested to ask employees not to take days off on September 13 due to a major smartphone announcement. As Apple consistently holds its fall launch event during September, we can expect the company to stick to this timeline.

Last year, iPhone 14 series was unveiled during Apple’s September ‘Far Out’ event on September 7. The pre-orders for iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max began on September 9. If the company follows the same trend and the rumoured launch date is valid, pre-orders for iPhone 15 series can be expected to start from September 15 this year.

As of now, Apple has not shared the date for the event or details on the iPhone 15 models so this piece of information should be taken with a grain of salt.

Going by previous leaks, Apple is expected to pack a USB Type-C port on the iPhone 15 series. All new models are expected to come with Dynamic Island feature, which is currently limited to the iPhone 14 Pro models. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models are rumoured to feature the new Apple A17 Bionic chip. Meanwhile, the regular iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus could feature the Apple A16 Bionic chip that powers the iPhone 14 series.

Apple Releases iOS 16.0.1 for iPhone 14 Series With Bug Fixes: Report

Apple released the iOS 16 update for the recently-launched iPhone 14 series along with a few select older iPhone models this week. Now, the Cupertino giant has reportedly released an iOS 16.0.1 update exclusively for the latest iPhone 14 series. The update is said to fix bugs that could affect the activation and migration of the new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models. The company recently also unveiled iOS 16.1 beta 1 update for registered developers. The stable update could be released next month. The new iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro and the top-of-the-line iPhone 14 Pro Max models will be available for purchase starting September 16.

As per a report by 9to5Mac, Apple has released the iOS 16.0.1 update for iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models just days after iOS 16’s release on Monday, September 12. The report citing iOS 16.0.1 release notes suggests that the update includes fixes for issues affecting the activation and migration of the new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. The update reportedly fixes issues related to photos appearing soft when zooming in landscape mode on iPhone 14 Pro Max. The new update is also said to fix bugs that prevent enterprise single sign-on apps from authenticating.

The latest update could be available to install while setting up the new iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Pro models.

Apple released the iOS 16.1 beta 1 for iPhone on Wednesday with some improvements to existing features. The update brings a status bar battery percentage indicator for all iPhone models and lets users delete the Apple Wallet app. The update includes support for the Matter smart home accessories and adds a Clean Energy Charging mode. It is currently available to registered users and a stable update could be released next month.

iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max Demand High; iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus Struggle: Ming-Chi Kuo

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max seem to have better demand as compared to the non-Pro models, TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said based on an investigation of pre-orders. He termed the demand for iPhone 14 series as neutral for Apple. The recently-launched flagship smartphones from the Cupertino-based company are available globally for pre-orders since last week, including in India, and are set to go on sale starting September 16. Meanwhile, the iPhone 14 Plus will be available for purchase on October 7.

Alongside his overall analysis of the demand for the iPhone 14 series, Kuo also provided details by sharing information on model-by-model basis. Starting with the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, he states that pre-order trends reflect sluggish demand for the non-Pro models. “For now, the pre-order results for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are worse than those for the iPhone SE (2022) and iPhone 13 mini,” he explains.

Furthermore, shorter delivery times for iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus models (compared to iPhone 13/13 mini), and that the models will be in stock on launch day reflect sluggish demand for the non-Pro iPhone options, according to Kuo. The pre-order results of the iPhone 14 Plus, which is seemingly a replacement for the iPhone 13 mini, suggest that the demand of this new product is significantly lower than expected. “It means that Apple’s product segmentation strategy for standard models this year has failed,” the analyst notes.

Coming to the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max, Kuo says that the delivery times of more than 4 weeks of these models might reflect good demand. The delivery times of the iPhone 14 Pro Max and the iPhone 14 Pro are about 6 weeks and 5 weeks, respectively. As per Kuo, the iPhone 14 Pro Max pre-order is better as compared to the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

“Undoubtedly, the pre-order results for the Pro models once again prove that Apple still has many loyal and sticky customers despite the deteriorating economy,” Kuo added. The analyst also gave a forecast on how things could change in the future for Apple. Kuo says if the demand for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus doesn’t improve after launch, Apple could cut its shipment forecasts for November and beyond for the models within a few weeks.

It is to be noted that Apple is reported to manufacture some iPhone 14 series models in India and the first batch of iPhone 14 from India is likely to be finished in late October or November. It is currently unknown whether there will be an impact on iPhone 14 models that are said to be manufactured in India.

Furthermore, a positive outlook presented by pre-order of Pro models does not mean that Apple will immediately increase orders for the Pro models, as per the analyst. “Whether Apple will increase Pro orders depends on how long the strong demand for Pro models lasts during a recession. It is unclear whether Apple will increase its shipment forecast for the Pro model, but the possibility of iPhone 14 and 14 Plus (accounting for about 45 percent of overall iPhone 14 shipments) is increasing,” Kuo noted.

Additionally, the strong demand for the iPhone 14 Pro models is said to continue through at least November. “But assuming Apple doesn’t increase orders for the iPhone Pro after that, in which case the potential iPhone 14 and 14 Plus cuts could offset Apple’s gains in late 4Q22 or 1Q23 due to a better iPhone product mix (iPhone ASP boost),” he claimed.

Apple Said to Challenge Brazil’s Move to Ban Sale of iPhone Models Without Battery Chargers

Apple reportedly said it would challenge the Brazilian court’s order which halted the sale of iPhone models without a battery charger in the country. Brazil’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security has earlier fined Apple BRL 12.275 million (roughly Rs. 18 crore) over the issue claiming that the company is providing an incomplete product to consumers. The order prohibits the sale of all iPhone 12 and 13 models in the country. The Cupertino giant stopped bundling chargers with its mobile phones in 2020 with the release of the iPhone 12, citing environmental concerns.

As per a report by Reuters, Apple would appeal the measure by Brazil to ban the sale of iPhone units without battery chargers. The company said that it would continue to work with Brazilian consumer protection agency Senacon to “resolve their concerns”.

The report quotes Apple as saying “we have already won several court rulings in Brazil on this matter and we are confident that our customers are aware of the various options for charging and connecting their devices”.

The Brazilian government earlier on Tuesday suspended the sales of iPhone 12 and newer models that do not ship with an included charger. It has slapped Apple with a fine of BRL 12.275 million and accused the company of “deliberate discriminatory practices against consumers.”

Apple discontinued the practice of bundling chargers with the launch of the iPhone 12 in 2020, citing it as a measure to reduce carbon emissions. The authorities rejected Apple’s argument, saying there is no evidence that selling smartphones without a charger offers environmental protections.

Brazil’s ban comes ahead of Apple’s Far Out event today, where it’s expected to announce the new iPhone 14 series with iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max models.

Apple Concluded Testing Satellite Communication Feature on iPhone 14 Ahead of Mass Production: Ming-Chi Kuo

Apple’s iPhone 14 series is expected to launch at its ‘Far out’ event scheduled for September 7. The rumoured smartphone series has been subject to several leaks and tips ahead of the upcoming event. Now, a well-known analyst has shared updates from a survey, which suggests that Apple had concluded the hardware test of satellite communication feature on iPhone 14 even before it entered mass production. However, the analyst believes that Apple will have to negotiate a deal with satellite operators in order to offer the feature on its upcoming smartphones.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities, has shared updates of a new survey via Medium. According to Kuo, Apple had finished testing the hardware for satellite communication support on the rumoured iPhone 14 before it entered mass production. Still, its availability on the handset is still in question as Apple will have to cut a deal with the satellite operators.

Kuo said that Apple had also developed the satellite communication hardware for the iPhone 13, but it wasn’t integrated as the company was unable to negotiate a business model with satellite operators. Hence, the analyst believes that the availability of satellite communication services on iPhone 14 will depend on whether the two will be able to agree on a deal to offer the functionality.

The analyst further added that the satellite communication feature on the iPhone 14 will likely only offer emergency texting and voice services. Kuo also said that satellite communication will become an essential feature for smartphones in future. Although, the analyst can’t precisely predict if and when the iPhone models will get the feature, he believes that the smartphones from Apple will eventually offer satellite functionality.

Kuo further added that Apple has most likely partnered with a satellite operator called Globalstar. The analyst said that in the satellite communication ecosystem, operators like Globalstar have the greatest number of entry barriers.

Apple recently announced that the company will host the ‘Far out’ launch event on September 7. During the event, Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 14 series, alongside other Apple products including new Apple Watch and iPad models, according to previous reports.

iPhone 14 Could Be $100 More Expensive Than iPhone 13: Report

iPhone 14 series has been in the rumour mill for quite some time now. The upcoming lineup could include four models —iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Max, and iPhone 14 Pro Max— and they are expected to go official sometime in September this year. Now, a report suggests that the vanilla iPhone 14 would be $100 (roughly Rs. 7,900) more expensive than its predecessor — iPhone 13. Apple’s entire supply chain is reportedly witnessing price increases. The iPhone 14 is expected to sport a 6.1-inch screen size and is said to sport a 3,279mAh cell. The phone could be powered by Apple’s A15 Bionic chip.

As per a report by The Sun, the iPhone 14 will debut with higher prices than the previous iPhone 13 model. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives was quoted by the publication as saying “We believe a $100 price increase is coming for the iPhone 14”. He added that prices have been rising across the supply chain and Apple may pass the costs to consumers.

The increase in production, component costs, and exchange rates would suggest a price rise may be necessary, said another analyst Ben Wood from CCS Insight. “But given the cost of living head-winds Apple may decide that increasing prices could be counterproductive”, he added.

Currently, the price of iPhone 13 starts at $799 (roughly Rs. 63,700) in the US for the base 128GB storage model. It was unveiled in India last year with a price tag of Rs. 79,900, Rs. 89,900, and Rs. 1,09,900 for the 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options, respectively. If the new report turns out to be true, the iPhone 14 could cost around Rs. 90,000 in India.

The iPhone 13 mini was the cheapest model in the previous series with price starting at Rs. 69,900 for the base 128GB storage model. It costs, Rs. 79,900, and Rs. 99,900 for the 256GB, and 512GB storage options, respectively.
