Users can log press the navigation pill to summon an overlay that lets them draw around, scribble, or highlight a part of the screen to perform a visual lookup — without leaving the app they are using.

Chat Assist, another AI feature that is designed to help users compose texts in different languages, via seamless translation of incoming or outgoing messages, is also coming to all three handsets. Samsung says the feature is also designed to work with third party apps, which means users won’t have to open a translation app while messaging another user. Chat Assist is also designed to help users change the tone of their messages, according to the company.

Samsung’s announcement that it will update the Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3 with these two features confirms that the company’s other Galaxy AI functionality won’t be making its way to these older handsets. Samsung’s Galaxy AI Features Could Be Expanded to the Galaxy S22 Series: Report

Samsung could expand its Galaxy AI, the suite of artificial intelligence features which are currently only available on the Galaxy S24 series, to its older Galaxy S22 series as well, as per a report. Earlier, the tech giant had confirmed that the AI features would be added to the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and the Galaxy Tab S9 series as a part of its upcoming One UI 6.1 update, but it did not include the Galaxy S22 lineup.

However, according to a report by South Korean news outlet Naver News, TM Roh, the President of Samsung’s mobile division, revealed that some of the Galaxy AI features could be expanded to the Galaxy S22 series while speaking at the company’s 55th regular shareholders’ meeting in Seoul. Notably, the Galaxy S22 series comprises the vanilla Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

As per Roh, the main issue in expanding Galaxy AI features to older devices is that some of the features are on-device. These features require high hardware capabilities that are not possible in devices that are too old. Samsung has found that the cut-off point exists in the Galaxy S22 series. “Resources and efforts are being invested. We are gradually preparing plans to support a fully-fledged Galaxy AI experience [in the S22 series and older Samsung devices],” Roh said in the meeting as per the report (translated via Google). It is not known why the South Korean tech giant is not adding the cloud-based AI features of Galaxy AI in older devices.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy S23 series, the Galaxy Tab S9 series, as well as the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 are all set to receive Galaxy AI features with the One UI 6.1 update that is expected to be released by the end of this month. Samsung Galaxy M53 5G and the Galaxy F54 5G are reportedly receiving the Android 14-based stable One UI 6 update in India. The report noted that the initial One UI 6 update for the Galaxy M53 model was first rolled out to users in Russia in November.

Meanwhile, another report by the same publication claimed that the Android 14-based update is also rolling to Galaxy F54 5G users in India. The update is reportedly 2.37GB in size and carries the firmware version 546BXXU3BWL1, which also comes with the November security patch.

With this update, the Galaxy F54 5G users are said to get a new Quick Panel layout, redesigned notifications, and a media player widget with a new wave animation. The users can also enjoy new emoji designs and a new font with this update, along with increased font and placement options for the lock screen clock widget. These features are all part of the One UI 6 update. 

The camera application in the Galaxy F54 5G is said to offer a simpler user interface with the stable One UI 6 update. As per the report, the inbuilt video editor of the phone, Samsung Studio, now offers the option to save drafts and continue editing later. The onboard photo editor also gets more editing controls with this version, according to the report.

To download the One UI 6 update on their respective Galaxy M53 5G and Galaxy F54 5G handsets, users can go to Settings > Software Update > Download > Install on their phones. Notably, the Galaxy M53 5G boots Android 12-based One UI 4.1, while the Galaxy F54 5G ships with Android 13-based One UI 5.1 on top.
