Samsung Galaxy S24 FE Firmware Details, EU Model Number Leak Ahead of Anticipated Debut

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is said to be in development at the South Korean smartphone manufacturer, and is expected to make its debut later this year. While there’s no word from Samsung on the purported Galaxy S24 FE, a tipster has leaked details of a new test build of One UI — Samsung’s user interface based on Android — that has surfaced on the company’s firmware server. The firmware is said to pertain to the European variant of the Galaxy S series handset.

Tipster Tarun Vats claims in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the first One UI test build for a new smartphone has appeared on Samsung’s firmware server. It bears the build numbers S721BXXU0AXE, S721BOXM0AXE3, and S721BXXU0AXE3. According to Vats, the model number for the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE in the EU will be SM-S721B.

Last month, it was reported that the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE would be launched with model numbers including SM-S721B, SM-S721U, SM-S721W, and SM-S721N, in North America, Korea, Canada, and other countries.

Previous reports suggest that the next–generation Galaxy S24 FE could be launched earlier than its predecessor — the Galaxy S23 FE, which arrived in October 2023. However, it is currently unclear when the Galaxy S 24 FE could make its debut — the South Korean firm is expected to launch new Galaxy Z series of smartphones as well as unveil its next generation of Galaxy Watch models, at its next Galaxy Unpacked event that is scheduled to take place in July.

The Galaxy S24 FE is expected to arrive as the successor to the Galaxy S23 FE that was launched by the company last year. The latter is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC in the US and an Exynos 2200 chip in other regions. The handset has a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera, and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera. It has a 4,500mAh battery with support for 25W and 15W wired and wireless charging, respectively.

Samsung Good Lock App Reportedly Available on Google Play Store in Early Access

Samsung’s Good Lock app, a customisation suite for Galaxy smartphones that allows users to play around with various modules and even add new functionalities, is reportedly now coming to the Google Play Store. The app offers modules to customise lock screen, notifications, home screen, and more. Earlier, the app was only available in the Galaxy Store. However, a report claims that it was seen in the Play Store in early access. Notably, the app is still only compatible with Galaxy phones and will not work on other Android handsets.

According to a report by 9to5Google, the Good Lock app was spotted in the Google Play Store in early access. The early access means it will not be available to all users and only some will be able to install and use it normally. We, at Gadgets 360, were not able to locate the app in the Play Store, which could be due to its limited availability to only a few countries. At the moment, it appears the app is not available in India.

Based on the screenshot shared by tipster @tarunvats33, the app’s current version is 2.2.04.95. The app is 3.3MB in size and its description highlights all the usual functionalities that the Galaxy Store version of the app shows. Reportedly, the app shows up even for non-Galaxy Android phones. However, it comes with the disclaimer that the phone is not compatible with the app.

Since the app is currently in development, it may not work for all users. It is recommended that users do not install it for their primary device as it may have some instability issues, even if you do get the access.

Samsung launched the Good Lock app in 2018 as a customisation tool for its Galaxy smartphones. The app introduced an advanced level of personalisation tools on supported Galaxy devices. It features apps such as Lockstar, Quickstar, Task Changer, and ClockFace. It also allowed users to have greater control over Sound settings through the preloaded Sound Assistant. Additionally, it also allows users to customise their notifications and add visual elements to them.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Prototype Images Leak, Hinting at Four Possible Design Options

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra could be launched by the company next year as the successor to the Galaxy S24 Ultra that was unveiled by the company in January. While the launch of the purported Galaxy S25 Ultra is several months away, a tipster has claimed that Samsung is currently considering four prototypes of the handset, with subtle differences in design. The leaked image suggests that Samsung’s next flagship phone could be similar in appearance to the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

An image with four smartphone designs was leaked by user PandaFlash (X: @ReaSufyanWaleed) via a post on X (formerly Twitter). The tipster claims that Samsung is testing these prototypes for its next flagship smartphone, the purported Galaxy S25 Ultra. The four designs appear to be similar, with minor changes over the Galaxy S24 Ultra model.

The first prototype shows the phone with slim bezels and a design that is similar to the current flagship model, while third and fourth renders show a thinner frame (the last one is shown with slightly rounded edges. The second one depicts a phone with extremely slim bezels and a very thin frame. All four versions show what appears to be an S Pen located at the bottom edge on the left side.

It is worth noting that these leaked designs have surfaced several months ahead of the anticipated arrival of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. A recent report stated that Samsung expects to decide the product specifications and component suppliers for its next flagship handsets by the end of May, and we can expect to hear more details about the successors to the Galaxy S24 Ultra in the coming months.

Unlike this year’s Galaxy S24 series, Samsung is expected to equip all smartphones in next year’s lineup with Exynos chipsets. Back in January, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ with Exynos 2400 chips in global markets, while customers in North America and China had access to a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered variant. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset in all markets.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Could Get a Cheaper Variant Alongside Standard Model: Report

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 could be unveiled in two variants later this year, according to a report. The South Korean tech conglomerate is considering launching a cheaper version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 alongside the standard book-style foldable phone. This means that the smartphone maker could launch two larger folding handsets and a clamshell-style foldable later this year. The arrival of the purported cheaper Galaxy Z Fold 6 model is reportedly aimed at helping Samsung compete with other firms in China.

A report in The Elec (in Korean) citing industry sources states that Samsung is considering developing an entry-level model of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 that could be launched alongside the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. The smartphone maker is planning to launch an affordable foldable phone for the first time since it introduced the first Galaxy Z Fold in 2019, as per the report.

The plan to launch an affordable version of its foldable phone is reportedly aimed at helping Samsung compete with other smartphone makers in China, where it has a double-digit market share. However, the report states that potential economic downturn could lead to high demand for premium smartphones, which could negatively impact the company’s sales if an affordable model is launched alongside the more expensive book-style foldable.

While there’s no word on what specifications and features will be available on the more affordable Galaxy Z Fold 6 model, details of the purported Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and standard Galaxy Z Fold 6 surfaced online last month, giving us an idea of what to expect from the upcoming foldable phones.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 arrived with mostly iterative features over its predecessor, and this year’s model is expected to feature changes to the inner display’s aspect ratio that will reportedly have an impact on the outer display. The successor to the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is also expected to feature smaller bezels in the inner display, while the folder shaped outer screen on the clamshell-style foldable could also see some changes, according to the report. Samsung is yet to announce any plans to launch the successors to the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 phones that are expected to arrive later this year.

Samsung Galaxy Ring to Be Launched in 3 Different Colourways Later This Year: Report

Samsung Galaxy Ring was teased at the end of the Galaxy Unpacked event earlier this month. Despite showcasing the new product, the company did not reveal any details about it. But now, a new report suggests that it could be launched later this year. The report also highlighted some of the expected features of the health-focussed wearable device and claimed that the Galaxy Ring would be a lightweight product. Further, the Samsung Galaxy Ring might also be made available in three different colourways and multiple sizes.

The report comes from SamMobile, which cites Avi Greengart, a tech analyst claiming to have received a hands-on experience with the prototype of the Samsung Galaxy Ring. In a Threads post, they revealed that the device was “incredibly” lightweight and would be available in multiple sizes, going up to size 13 (22.2mm). Additionally, the analyst also claimed that the device would be launched in three different finishes later this year.

The Samsung Galaxy Ring was positioned as a health device at the Galaxy Unpacked event, where the South Korean technology conglomerate unveiled its flagship Galaxy S24 series of smartphones. The Galaxy Ring it is said to be equipped with several sensors to track the user’s health markers and record physical activity. Some of these sensors could be seen in the teaser video, with the company calling it a “powerful and accessible health and wellness device” at the event.

And while Samsung has not revealed any details about the on-device sensors, the upcoming Galaxy Ring wearable is expected to feature a 24×7 heart rate monitor, an SpO2 (blood oxygen) sensor, a sleep monitoring tracker and other fitness tracking capabilities. It might also get a blood pressure monitoring feature and atrial fibrillation or AFib (a type of arrhythmia, which is a heartbeat abnormality) detection too, although these are based on more obscure rumours.

The device will also reportedly integrate Samsung Health with its features and will likely require a companion app or device to sync and show the data to the user. The ring will likely be compatible with both the Samsung Galaxy Watch and Galaxy smartphones. For charging, the inside of the ring might house a pogo pins slot, based on the visuals from the teaser.

While the Samsung Galaxy Ring’s price remains unknown, its competitor Oura Ring starts at $299 (approximately Rs. 25,000) in the US. Oura Ring is not available in India, but Noise launched its Luna Ring last year in the country and it is available to buy for Rs. 19,999. It is expected that Samsung’s wearable device will also be priced similarly.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Series AI Features Will Only Remain Free Until 2025, Website Shows

Samsung Galaxy S24 series was unveiled by the company at an event in California on Wednesday, and the company spent most of its presentation showing off new artificial intelligence (AI) features that are powered by the company’s Galaxy AI technology. However, a footnote on Samsung’s web pages for the new Galaxy S24 series models reveals the Galaxy AI features will only be available on supported Samsung Galaxy devices for a two-year period. The company is also bringing Galaxy AI features to select older devices.

On the device pages for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, the Galaxy S24, and Galaxy S24+, the company has touted the new AI features offered by the three models. Meanwhile, a footnote at the bottom of the page clearly states “Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices. Different terms may apply for AI features provided by third parties.”

While this means that customers who buy a Samsung Galaxy S24 series handset will have access to these features at no additional cost until the end of 2025, there’s no word from the company on whether customers will have to shell out more money to access these features after the two-year period.

Samsung is not the first company to launch software features on new smartphone models that will be provided at no additional cost for a limited time period. Apple launched the iPhone 14 series of smartphones with support for a new Emergency SOS via Satellite feature that will be available for free until November 2025. Companies might charge for a service in order to ensure that it is sustainable.

However, the wording of Samsung’s footnote is unclear as to whether all of the company’s AI-powered Phone, Messages, Gallery, and Notes app features will be part of a subscription, or if the company will simply charge for third-party AI-powered features like Circle to Search that was created in partnership with Google. We can expect the company to share more details on the cost of these AI powered features in the future.

Samsung Previews ‘Galaxy AI,’ Live Call Translation Feature for Galaxy Phones

Samsung has been trying to catch up to the AI frenzy as manufacturers around the world race to infuse AI-powered features and tools to their products and services. The South Korean technology conglomerate is also said to be planning to launch its next generation of flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S24 series, with AI capabilities. Now, the company has provided a preview of ‘Galaxy AI,’ Samsung’s AI-powered mobile experience that promises to simplify productivity, boost creativity, and change the way users interact with their phones. Samsung also announced a live call translation feature that utilises artificial intelligence.

In a newsroom post on Thursday, Samsung provided a glimpse of Galaxy AI, an on-device universal intelligence that the company claims can perform a variety of tasks. “Galaxy AI is a comprehensive mobile AI experience, powered by both on-device AI developed at Samsung and cloud-based AI enabled by our open collaborations with like-minded industry leaders,” the post said. “It will transform your everyday mobile experience with the peace of mind you count on from Galaxy security and privacy.”

Galaxy AI is coming early next year, Samsung says, but there’s no word on a release date. One could expect the company to bundle its AI offering with its next Galaxy S series of smartphones. Samsung is speculated to unveil the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra in January 2024, which aligns with the launch timeline provided for Galaxy AI.

Samsung also provided sparse details on an AI Live Translate Call feature that would work as a personal translator for Galaxy phone users. The translation tool will be integrated with the native calling feature and will provide audio and text translations of your call in real-time as you speak. Samsung says the feature would be powered by on-device Galaxy AI and would thus ensure that your conversations remain private.

“Galaxy AI is our most comprehensive intelligence offering to date, and it will change how we think about our phones forever,” Wonjoon Choi, EVP and Head of R&D, Mobile eXperience Business, said in the post.

Last month, it was reported that Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series would come packed with AI features. According to the report, Samsung wants to make the upcoming Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra “the smartest AI phones ever”, surpassing even Google’s latest Pixel 8 lineup. The upcoming phones could include AI features resembling popular chatbots like ChatGPT and Google Bard.

Google launched the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro last month with AI-backed features like Magic Editor and Audio Eraser. The phones, powered by the Tensor G3 chipset, bring AI integration to many of Google’s native apps and services. It seems Samsung now intends to do the same with its Galaxy smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Series Gets Android 14 Update With Revamped One UI 6 Interface: How to Download

Samsung Galaxy S23 series — comprising the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and the Galaxy S23 Ultra — is receiving an update to Android 14 in India and other regions. The South Korean smartphone maker’s flagship handsets for 2023 are its first models to be updated to the latest version of Android and come with a revamped One UI 6 interface with improvements to the quick panel, multitasking, and a new default font. Users should receive a notification to download the update, or can perform a manual check from the settings app.

If you have a Samsung Galaxy S23, Samsung’s latest software update is available to download with build number S918BXXU3BWJM for users who opted to receive updates via the beta channel. It is a 350MB update for beta testers, while users who are updating from Android 13-based One UI 5.1 will have to download a larger 3GB update.

The update to the latest version of Android is now available to users in India, a few countries in Europe, and the UK. However, it appears that users in the US will have to wait a while longer as there are no reports of the update arriving in the country. Meanwhile, Samsung’s support page suggests that the Android 14 update for the Galaxy S23 series will be available in the US “soon”, along with a list of other smartphones that are confirmed to receive the update.

As part of the One UI 6 update that is based on Android 14, Samsung has introduced a new redesigned quick settings panel along with a modern media player in the notification area. While you still get circular toggles for various settings, the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth buttons are larger and located at the top of the screen. You can also quickly access the quick settings by swiping down from the top right corner, while swiping from the top left side will show the notification area.

Samsung has also updated the default font on One UI 6 that replaces the one that it has used since One UI was introduced in 2018. You can also switch back to the older font, and changing this setting affects how all your apps will appear. Meanwhile, all of Samsung’s emojis from One UI 5.1 have been redesigned and are slightly brighter.

Under the hood, the Android 14 update for the Galaxy S23 series also adds improvements to the Gallery app with support for new AI features, redesigned camera buttons, and support for preset widgets with configurations that can be placed on the home screen. Samsung has also introduced optimisations to the home screen and app drawer, as well as the ability to customise the position of the clock on the lock screen.

If you haven’t received a notification to download and install the Android 14-based One UI 6 update on your Samsung Galaxy S23 series smartphone, you can follow these steps to manually check for the update.

How to download the Android 14 update on the Samsung Galaxy S23

  1. Charge your smartphone to more than 50 percent and connect to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open the Settings app and tap Software update.
  3. Tap Download and install to begin checking for the update.
  4. Follow the steps on your screen to complete the installation of the update.
  5. Wait until your smartphone restarts and the update process will be complete.

Samsung Reveals List of Galaxy Smartphones Scheduled to Get Android 14 Update With One UI 6

Samsung has confirmed a list of smartphones that will receive an update to Android 14 in the coming months. The company’s latest One UI 6 interface, which is based on the latest version of Google’s Android operating system, will roll out to some Galaxy S series, Z series, and A series handsets. Samsung provides up to four years of OS and five years of security patch updates for recent smartphone models. The list of smartphones set to receive the Android 14 update is expected to expand in the coming weeks.

On Monday, the South Korean smartphone manufacturer announced the public rollout of its One UI 6 update and described some of the new camera-related features coming to users’ smartphones, effectively confirming these handsets will receive the update. According to Samsung, the Galaxy S23 series — the company’s flagship handsets for 2023 — will be the first to receive the update.

In addition to the Galaxy S23 series of smartphones, the company’s previous handsets such as the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 series will also receive the Android 14 update with Samsung’s One UI 6 on top. The Galaxy S20 lineup that was released in 2020 will be the final S-series models to receive the update, as the Galaxy S10 series received its final Android OS update last year.

Samsung has also listed out which Galaxy Z-series smartphones will be eligible to receive the Android 14 update. It includes the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3Galaxy Z Flip, and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G. The Galaxy Z Fold that was launched in 2019 will remain on Android 13-based One UI 5, as per Samsung’s list.

In addition to its flagship and foldable phones, Samsung will also update its Galaxy Note 20 series — the last Note-branded smartphones — to Android 14. The Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A53 will also get the latest One UI 6 update, according to Samsung.

It is worth noting that several recently launched smartphones, including Samsung’s Galaxy M and Galaxy F series, are not part of Samsung’s list of handsets that are scheduled to receive the Android 14 update. This suggests that the list of phones that will be updated to Android 14 will be expanded based on regions where these smartphones are available, at a later date.
