PUBG to Get 120 FPS Support on Samsung Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23 Lineup, Galaxy Z Fold 5

Samsung has confirmed that several of its premium handsets will support the popular mobile game PUBG at a higher frame rate than before. The battle royale game published by Krafton is available to smartphone users on both Android and iOS devices. Up until recently, the game supported frame rate of up to 90fps (frames per second). With the latest update, the game can be accessed at a higher frame rate. Samsung has announced the list of smartphones that will support the higher frame rate gameplay.

In a community post, a Samsung official moderator in charge of game optimisation confirmed that several of its handsets will support PUBG at 120fps. The list includes the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23 series of phones, as well as the Galaxy Z Fold 5 book-style foldable smartphone. 

Notably, with the latest v3.2 update, PUBG Mobile brings several updates like new items, new stages, new mechanics and new modes including support for a 120fps frame rate. A higher frame rate ensures smoother gameplay, whereas lower frame rates show actions and movements within games with jagged interruptions.

The Samsung community post explained that the optimisations will be included in the latest Game Optimisation Service (GOS) and Game Booster applications that come pre-installed in most Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets. 

The post, however, did not clarify if the support will later extend to other Samsung models. For now, the optimisations are supported in the following models – Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Samsung Acknowledges Galaxy S23 Touchscreen Issue With One UI 6.1, Offers Temporary Fix

Samsung suggests affected users to temporarily update the Google app via Google Play to the latest version, delete the app’s data, and then restart their devices to fix the issue. The apps’ storage can be deleted by tapping Settings > Apps > Google > Storage > Delete Data. Google is said to be working on a fix for the issue.

The One UI 6.1 update started rolling out globally to last year’s Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Tab S9 series in March last week. Google’s Circle to Search Feature Rolling Out to Pixel 6 Series, Samsung Galaxy S23 Lineup, and More

Google’s Circle to Search was introduced in January this year with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. This was packed alongside a few other AI-backed features like Live Translate and Note Assist. It will also be available on the Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5 as well as the Galaxy Tab S9 series.

As of today, Google’s Circle to Search feature is already available in several flagship handsets including Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, Galaxy S24 Ultra, Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 8, and Pixel 8 Pro.

Google also mentioned in the post that the Circle to Search feature can help users shop for specific styles or items without much hassle. It can also assist users during their travels to foreign places, especially ones with a different language than their native ones, by instantly translating anything that is on their screen. All users need to do is long-press the home button or navigation bar and tap the translate option.

The Circle to Search feature allows users to search anything, instantly, without switching apps with a few gestures. Users can circle, scribble, highlight or tap anything on their screen, like images, part of an image or text, and opt for the search option. It not only gives information quicker but with Generative AI support, it is meant to aid in more complex research.

Samsung Galaxy S23 is now priced at Rs. 64,999 for the base 8GB RAM + 128GB storage option and Rs. 69,999 for the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. The smartphone debuted in February last year with a price tag of Rs. 74,999 for the base variant and Rs. 79,999 for the 256GB storage version. The Galaxy S23+ is now listed for 84,999 for the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant, down from the original launch price of Rs. 94,999. The 8GB RAM + 512GB storage variant is available for Rs. 94,999, instead of Rs. 1,04,999.

The new price tags are currently showing up on the Samsung online store, Amazon India, and Flipkart.

The price cut comes in the wake of the new Galaxy S24 series launch on January 17 at the Galaxy Unpacked event. In previous years, Samsung slashed the prices of older flagship models after the launch of new versions.

The leaked renders show slimmer bezels on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. It is expected to run on Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC for Galaxy.

Tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) showed off alleged renders of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra on X (formerly Twitter). From the looks of it, the handset appears much like the Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy S22 Ultra. It is seen with thin and symmetrical bezels on the display but with lesser curved edges. It is shown in a black shade with a centred hole-punch cutout at the top of the display.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is seen featuring a quad camera setup at the rear with four individual lenses protruding from the flat back. LED flash is also shown flushed in the rear panel. Further, the power and volume buttons can be seen on the left side.

Samsung is tipped to unveil the Galaxy S24 series with Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra on January 17 in San Fransisco.
