Samsung Galaxy S24 FE Firmware Details, EU Model Number Leak Ahead of Anticipated Debut

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is said to be in development at the South Korean smartphone manufacturer, and is expected to make its debut later this year. While there’s no word from Samsung on the purported Galaxy S24 FE, a tipster has leaked details of a new test build of One UI — Samsung’s user interface based on Android — that has surfaced on the company’s firmware server. The firmware is said to pertain to the European variant of the Galaxy S series handset.

Tipster Tarun Vats claims in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the first One UI test build for a new smartphone has appeared on Samsung’s firmware server. It bears the build numbers S721BXXU0AXE, S721BOXM0AXE3, and S721BXXU0AXE3. According to Vats, the model number for the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE in the EU will be SM-S721B.

Last month, it was reported that the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE would be launched with model numbers including SM-S721B, SM-S721U, SM-S721W, and SM-S721N, in North America, Korea, Canada, and other countries.

Previous reports suggest that the next–generation Galaxy S24 FE could be launched earlier than its predecessor — the Galaxy S23 FE, which arrived in October 2023. However, it is currently unclear when the Galaxy S 24 FE could make its debut — the South Korean firm is expected to launch new Galaxy Z series of smartphones as well as unveil its next generation of Galaxy Watch models, at its next Galaxy Unpacked event that is scheduled to take place in July.

The Galaxy S24 FE is expected to arrive as the successor to the Galaxy S23 FE that was launched by the company last year. The latter is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC in the US and an Exynos 2200 chip in other regions. The handset has a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera, and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera. It has a 4,500mAh battery with support for 25W and 15W wired and wireless charging, respectively.

PUBG to Get 120 FPS Support on Samsung Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23 Lineup, Galaxy Z Fold 5

Samsung has confirmed that several of its premium handsets will support the popular mobile game PUBG at a higher frame rate than before. The battle royale game published by Krafton is available to smartphone users on both Android and iOS devices. Up until recently, the game supported frame rate of up to 90fps (frames per second). With the latest update, the game can be accessed at a higher frame rate. Samsung has announced the list of smartphones that will support the higher frame rate gameplay.

In a community post, a Samsung official moderator in charge of game optimisation confirmed that several of its handsets will support PUBG at 120fps. The list includes the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23 series of phones, as well as the Galaxy Z Fold 5 book-style foldable smartphone.

Notably, with the latest v3.2 update, PUBG Mobile brings several updates like new items, new stages, new mechanics and new modes including support for a 120fps frame rate. A higher frame rate ensures smoother gameplay, whereas lower frame rates show actions and movements within games with jagged interruptions.

The Samsung community post explained that the optimisations will be included in the latest Game Optimisation Service (GOS) and Game Booster applications that come pre-installed in most Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

The post, however, did not clarify if the support will later extend to other Samsung models. For now, the optimisations are supported in the following models – Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 alongside the Galaxy Tab S9 series and Galaxy Watch 6 series at its first Galaxy Unpacked event in South Korea. We discuss the company’s new devices and more on the latest episode of Orbital, the Gadgets 360 podcast. Samsung One UI 6.1 With Galaxy AI Might Debut on Galaxy S23 Series This Week

Samsung’s One UI 6.1 was announced in January with the launch of the Galaxy S24 series. The Android 14-based custom skin includes several AI-based features, dubbed Galaxy AI, could reach older Galaxy handsets soon. Last year’s Galaxy S23 series and its latest foldables were said to get Galaxy AI features initially. Samsung has allegedly notified some Galaxy S23 series users in China that a new update will be landing on March 28. The global rollout may take place later.

Samsung enthusiast Tarun Vats on X claimed that the company has notified some Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra users in China that a new update will be landing on March 28. The tipster posted a screenshot on the microblogging platform highlighting the notification. Separately, he posted that the Galaxy S23 FE in Korea will also get all the AI functions of the Galaxy S24. If this rumour turns out to be true, we can expect a wider rollout in the coming weeks.

A month ago, Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy S23 series and latest foldables will receive the new One UI 6.1 update sometime in March. The company didn’t reveal an exact release date for the update. The Galaxy S23 series, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5 smartphones are confirmed to be the first to receive the new custom skin. The Galaxy S23 FE, and Galaxy Tab S9 series are also believed to get the update in the first half of this year.

Samsung’s One UI 6.1 includes many AI-backed features Live Translate, Chat Assist, Note Assist, and Circle to Search as part of the new Galaxy AI experience introduced on the Galaxy S24 lineup. The Chat Assist functionality can be used to translate languages in real-time or perform tone corrections in texts and emails. The Google-backed Circle to Search combines text-based queries with visual search. Live Translate is effective for two-way real-time voice and text translations of phone calls. Samsung plans to bring the Galaxy AI to over 100 million devices worldwide this year.

Samsung Partners With Instagram, Snapchat to Ensure Full Camera Quality in Their Apps

Samsung Galaxy S24 series was launched on Wednesday (January 17) during the Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event with upgraded cameras and new AI photo-editing features. During the event, the South Korean smartphone brand announced that it has partnered with Instagram and Snapchat to offer the same camera quality on the apps as the stock camera app on the Galaxy S24 series. On previous-generation smartphones, the cameras of social media apps usually take a screenshot of the viewfinder downgrading the quality and lacking details. The Galaxy S24 trio will be the first-ever smartphone camera to have HDR-enabled photos on Instagram.

Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ Tipped to Run on Exynos 2400 SoC in India

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series will presumably break cover on January 17. Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2400 SoC and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC are believed to power the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ depending upon the region. Leaks from last week suggested that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC would be used in the Indian variants of the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+. Now, a report contradicts this claim and states that the Indian variants of the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+ will get the Exynos 2400 SoC. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to run on Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in all markets.

As per a report by Svctechinfo, the India variant of the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+ will run on the Exynos 2400 SoC and not the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. This contradicts previous rumours about the phones. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy across all regions. The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ in the US and Canada might also pack the Snapdragon chipset. Last year’s Galaxy S23 family runs on the custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy worldwide.

Further, the report adds that the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ will be available in amber yellow, cobalt violet, onyx black, and marble gray colour options. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is said to be offered in titanium black, titanium gray, titanium violet, and titanium yellow colourways. This corroborates past leaks.

The Galaxy S24 series is expected to be announced at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event on January 17 at 11.30pm IST (1.00pm EST) at the SAP in San Jose, California. Pre-bookings for the handsets have already begun in India.

Most specifications of the Galaxy S24 family have already leaked online. They are tipped to come with Android 14-based One UI 6.1 with generative AI-powered features. They could sport AMOLED LTPO displays with up to 120Hz refresh rate. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is said to come with a 200-megapixel quad camera setup, while the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ models could pack 50-megapixel triple camera units. The regular Galaxy S24 could have 8GB of RAM, while the top-end models are likely to be available in 8GB and 12GB RAM options.

The regular Galaxy S24 is said to be backed by a 4,000mAh battery while the Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra could carry 4,900mAh and 5,000mAh battery units.
