iPhone 14 Pro Max Charging Speed Capped at 27W, Required Time With Various Chargers Revealed: Report

Apple 14 Pro Max was recently subjected to a battery test by a Chinese publication and they have published the results of the test. The test, which included multiple Apple chargers, hints at the time taken by a particular charging brick to fully charge the top-of-the-line handset, as well as the maximum speed of charging achieved by each wall block. It is to be noted that unlike Android smartphone makers, Apple doesn’t reveal the battery capacity of its handsets or the time its chargers take to fully charge the company’s handsets.

In a recent test conducted by Chinese publication Chongdiantou, the iPhone 14 Pro Max was charged with different chargers available in the market. These included Apple’s older 5W charger, the 18W charger which was bundled with iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, the 30W charger available with 2020 smartphones, a 96W charger that comes with the 2019 MacBook Pro, and the 140W charger that ships with the 2021 MacBook Pro.

Before going straight into the results of the tests, let’s have a look at the battery capacity of each smartphone in the iPhone 14 lineup. A report recently suggested that the iPhone 14 packs a 3,279mAh battery, the iPhone 14 Plus packs a 4,325mAh battery, the iPhone 14 Pro gets a 3,200mAh battery, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max comes with a 4,323mAh battery. The tests were conducted with the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Apart from 18W and 20W chargers, which are restricted to their peak output, all the other bricks offer a maximum charging speed of 27W, the test revealed. This implies that in order to get the maximum charging speeds, iPhone 14 buyers should charge their phones with Apple’s 30W USB Type-C power adapter.

The report mentioned above also claims that last year’s top-of-the-line offering, the iPhone 13 Pro Max, packs a 4,352mAh battery. This is around the same battery capacity as this year’s offering. When it comes to the charging time, the publication based its calculations on the performance of last year’s top-end model with the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The 30W charger fully charges the iPhone 13 Pro Max in 2 hours and 9 minutes, according to the report. It also mentions that the Apple 96W PD charger takes an hour and 49 minutes to fully charge the top model indicating a 20-minute difference between them. The publication indicates that the iPhone 14 Pro Max should take a similar amount of time to be fully charged by these power bricks.

Apple Said to Challenge Brazil’s Move to Ban Sale of iPhone Models Without Battery Chargers

Apple reportedly said it would challenge the Brazilian court’s order which halted the sale of iPhone models without a battery charger in the country. Brazil’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security has earlier fined Apple BRL 12.275 million (roughly Rs. 18 crore) over the issue claiming that the company is providing an incomplete product to consumers. The order prohibits the sale of all iPhone 12 and 13 models in the country. The Cupertino giant stopped bundling chargers with its mobile phones in 2020 with the release of the iPhone 12, citing environmental concerns.

As per a report by Reuters, Apple would appeal the measure by Brazil to ban the sale of iPhone units without battery chargers. The company said that it would continue to work with Brazilian consumer protection agency Senacon to “resolve their concerns”.

The report quotes Apple as saying “we have already won several court rulings in Brazil on this matter and we are confident that our customers are aware of the various options for charging and connecting their devices”.

The Brazilian government earlier on Tuesday suspended the sales of iPhone 12 and newer models that do not ship with an included charger. It has slapped Apple with a fine of BRL 12.275 million and accused the company of “deliberate discriminatory practices against consumers.”

Apple discontinued the practice of bundling chargers with the launch of the iPhone 12 in 2020, citing it as a measure to reduce carbon emissions. The authorities rejected Apple’s argument, saying there is no evidence that selling smartphones without a charger offers environmental protections.

Brazil’s ban comes ahead of Apple’s Far Out event today, where it’s expected to announce the new iPhone 14 series with iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max models.

iPhone 14 Pro Alleged Live Video Surfaces, Showcases Option to Toggle Unified Pill Notch

iPhone 14 series is said to include the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Max, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The Cupertino company has not yet unveiled the design of this upcoming series. However, an alleged live video of the iPhone 14 Pro has seemingly surfaced. It showcases a new option that will allow iPhone 14 Pro users to toggle between a split pill-shaped hole-punch cutout and a unified pill cutout. It was recently tipped that Apple will turn off the pixels on the display between the two cutouts to make it appears as a single notch.

An alleged iPhone 14 Pro video is being circulated on the Chinese social media platform Weibo and shows the rumoured pill-shaped notch in use. The alleged video shows that the iPhone 14 Pro will come with an option that will allow users to switch between a unified pill notch or a split pill-shaped hole-punch cutout.

A recent report suggested that Apple might turn off pixels between the two cutouts on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. This feature is believed to be possible due to the OLED displays used in the Pro models.

Apple is reportedly planning to use the single unibrow-like pill-shaped cutout in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max to display privacy indicators. These indicators are expected to notify users when the camera and microphone are in use. Apple is believed to have redesigned the Camera app by moving some of the controls on either side of the unified pill shape.

Apple is set to host its ‘Far Out’ launch event on September 7. We can expect the reveal of the iPhone 14 series at this event. It is believed that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will come with the new Apple A16 Bionic chip, whereas the standard iPhone 14 variants will use the older A15 Bionic chip.

iPhone 15 May Be Manufactured in India, China at Same Time: Ming-Chi Kuo

iPhone 14 launch is about five days away and reports about iPhone 15 have started to pour in the rumour mill already. It has been widely reported that Apple will be producing some handsets in the iPhone 14 series in India due to various reasons, including minimising the impact of geopolitical tensions between China and the US. It has now been claimed that from next year, India and China could produce iPhone 15 simultaneously. Furthermore, the reported gap in iPhone 14 production schedule between India and China is said to have been reduced.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo tweeted that the mass production schedule of the iPhone 14 models in India this year “is still about six weeks behind China, but the gap has improved significantly.” On the basis of this, he said it is reasonable to expect that “India and China will be able to produce the new iPhone 15 at the same time next year.”

It is to be noted that Apple has been searching for an alternative market to produce iPhone models. Currently, China is the company’s important hub for worldwide shipments. However, recent geopolitical tensions between China and the US administration as well as the disrupted economic activity due to COVID-19 lockdowns has reportedly forced the Cupertino-based company to look for alternatives to produce iPhone models. Reports suggest that this would help Apple to minimise the impact of problems faced by the company in the recent months. Kuo, however, claimed that the geopolitical tension will not affect iPhone 14 mass production and shipment schedule.

It has been reported that the iPhone 14 models are planned to go into production in India about two months after the product’s initial release out of China. Apple’s move to produce some iPhone 14 models in India could be an ‘important milestone’ for the Indian market, but the iPhone-maker has its reservations about setting up India manufacturing units as it comes with its own challenges such as product secrecy and maintaining high standards.

iPhone 14 series will launch globally on September 7 and the shipment may start about a week and a half after the unveiling. Production sites in India are expected to manufacture the iPhone 14 models with a 6.1-inch display that are tipped to be the vanilla iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Pro. The iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max are believed to feature 6.7-inch displays and won’t be manufactured in the country.

iPhone 14 Series May Not Get Price Hike, Could Start at $749 Instead: TrendForce

Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 14 at $799 (64,000) and is said to give the Pro models a $100 price bump. However, a new report by market research firm TrendForce suggests that this might not be the case. It speculates that the Cupertino company could adopt a more cautious approach in the face of rising global inflation and foreign exchange rates. The firm predicts that Apple might not go for a $100 price increase. Instead, it suggests the standard iPhone 14’s pricing to start from $749 (roughly 60,000).

According to a TrendForce report, Apple could be initially conservative regarding the pricing of the iPhone 14 series. The report suggests that the standard iPhone 14 could start at $749 (roughly 60,000) and the iPhone 14 Max model at $849 (roughly Rs. 68,000). Meanwhile, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max may start at $1,049 (roughly Rs. 83,000) and $1,149 (roughly Rs. 91,000).

Apple is expected to use a cautious pricing strategy to prevent it from negatively affecting sales performance. The company is believed to be under pressure from rising global inflation and foreign exchange rates.

The company could be taking a hit here considering the number of rumoured alterations and improvements in the iPhone 14 series. These changes are expected to increase the starting price due to a significant increase in the price of components.

Most notably, the Pro models are expected to get the new Apple A16 Bionic chip. The iPhone Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will reportedly get an improved 48-megapixel wide-angle sensor on the back, which is a significant jump from the 12-megapixel sensors on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. The iPhone 14 series is also believed to get higher-capacity batteries.

The iPhone 14 series is expected to be unveiled during Apple’s special launch event that’s scheduled for September 7.

iPhone 14 Series Launch Date Said to be Targeted for September 7 Ahead of Busy Fall Product Season

Apple is aiming to hold a launch event on September 7 to unveil the iPhone 14 line, according to people with knowledge of the matter, rolling out the latest version of a product that generates more than half its sales. The new iPhones will kick off a busy fall product season, which will also include multiple new Macs, low-end and high-end iPads, and three Apple Watch models.

Apple is updating its flagship product at a precarious time for the industry. Smartphone sales have begun to flag as consumers cope with inflation and a shaky economy. But Apple appears to be faring better than its peers: The iPhone sold well last quarter, and the company has signaled to suppliers that it doesn’t foresee a dropoff in demand.

The Cupertino, California-based tech giant typically announces other products alongside the iPhone, including the latest Apple Watches. The company usually releases the new iPhone in stores about a week and a half after it’s unveiled, and Apple is expected to stick to that pattern this year. Some retail store employees have been told to prepare for a major new product release on Sept. 16.

Apple gained almost 1 percent to $174.54 (roughly Rs. 13,900) in New York trading. The stock remains down 2 percent this year, though it’s climbed back from a much deeper rout in recent months.

The company intends to stream the event online — rather than holding an in-person gathering — continuing an approach it adopted at the start of the pandemic. Apple launches are highly polished affairs, and employees have already begun recording the presentation’s segments over the past few weeks, Bloomberg News has reported.

An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment on the event’s timing. Given that the announcement is still about three weeks away, the company’s plans could change, but Apple usually unveils the latest iPhones in the first half of September.

The company held its last event in June to announce its next set of software updates — iOS 16, iPadOS 16, watchOS 9 and macOS Ventura — and invited press and developers to its campus to watch a video of the presentation. That arrangement was part of Apple’s slow shift back to more normal operations, a push that has included a return to the office.

On Monday, the company told its corporate staff they would be required to work in-person three days a week beginning September 5, two days before the planned product announcement.

The standard iPhone 14 will look similar to the iPhone 13, though the company will eliminate the 5.4-inch “mini” version and add a model with a 6.7-inch screen. This will mark the first time Apple launches a non-Pro iPhone with a display of that size.

The company is planning bigger changes for the iPhone 14 Pro line. Apple will replace the front-facing camera cutout, known as the notch, with a pill-shaped hole for Face ID sensors and a hole-punch-sized area for the camera. This will give users slightly more screen space. The company is also adding a faster chip to the iPhone 14 Pro. Apple, meanwhile, will retain the A15 chip from the iPhone 13 in the regular iPhone 14 models.

The most significant iPhone 14 Pro changes will be to the camera system, which will appear slightly larger to consumers. The Pro models will gain a 48-megapixel wide-angle camera alongside 12-megapixel ultrawide and telephoto sensors. Apple is also planning improvements to video recording and battery life.

For the latest Apple Watches, known as Series 8, Apple will add features for women’s health and a body-temperature sensor. The standard watch will look similar to the Series 7, but a new pro model will go after sportier consumers. It will have a larger display, rugged titanium case, new fitness tracking features and more battery life. The company also is planning a new Apple Watch SE, its low-cost smartwatch, with a faster chip.

Also coming in September: iOS 16, the software that will run on the next iPhones, and watchOS 9, the next Apple Watch operating system. And the company plans to launch macOS Ventura in October alongside iPadOS, the iPad’s operating system. The latter software was delayed about a month, in part due to bugs surrounding its new Stage Manager multitasking system.

Apple is working on an updated low-end iPad with an A14 chip and USB-C port, as well as new iPad Pro models with M2 chips for later this year, Bloomberg News has reported. It’s also looking to launch new Macs before the end of the year as it works on versions of the Mac mini and MacBook Pro with M2-based processors.

iPhone 14 Pro Models Said to Offer 128GB Storage, Same as iPhone 13 Series

iPhone 14 series has been part of several leaks and rumours for the past few months. The upcoming Apple iPhone lineup could include four models — iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Max, and iPhone 14 Pro Max — and they are expected to be launched on September 13. The iPhone 14 Pro models were earlier speculated to come with increased storage capacity over the previous models. They were claimed to start with 256GB of storage, compared to 128GB of the iPhone 13 Pro models. Now, in a new development, a market research analyst suggests that upcoming Pro models will continue to offer 128GB of storage.

Earlier, research firm TrendForce reportedly suggested that the iPhone 14 Pro models will start with 256GB storage. Now, a new report by MacRumors, quoting Haitong International Securities Tech Research Analyst Jeff Pu, said that the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro models will continue to offer 128GB of storage as its predecessors, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro.

The analyst has reportedly mentioned that the iPhone 14 Pro models will be available in the same storage capacities — 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB — as the iPhone 13 Pro models.

Earlier this week, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that iPhone 14 Pro models could be launched at a higher price than their predecessors. The ASP of the iPhone 14 Pro series is estimated to climb by about 15 percent to $1,000 – $1,050 (roughly Rs. 79,000 – Rs. 83,000) for the upcoming iPhone 14 series, compared to the iPhone 13 series ASP. The iPhone 13 Pro was unveiled in India last year with a price tag of Rs. 1,19,900 for the base 128GB storage model.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 14 series on September 13. The iPhone 14 Pro models could be powered by the new A16 Bionic chip. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, on the other hand, are expected to pack the A15 Bionic chip that is available on the current iPhone 13 devices.

Apple iPhone 14 Rear Cameras Facing Coating-Crack Quality Issues: Ming-Chi Kuo

Apple is facing quality issues with the rear camera lenses for the iPhone 14, according to an analyst. The Cupertino company is said to have sourced some of the rear camera lenses for the upcoming iPhone 14 from a supplier Genius. However, these lenses reportedly suffered from “coating-crack quality issues”. Apple has already transferred the order for these lenses to a Taiwanese firm. The analyst had recently claimed that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max would feature the company’s next-generation A16 Bionic chip.

According to a tweet by TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 14 rear camera lenses which were sourced from Genius, one of Apple’s suppliers, suffered from coating-crack quality issues. Kuo also mentioned in his tweet that Apple has, with a view to avoid delaying the production of its next-generation handset, has already passed the order of about 10 million lenses to lens manufacturer Largan, another one of the company’s various component suppliers.

Ming-Chi Kuo also claims that if Genius takes more than two months to solve the coating-crack issues in its lenses, then Largan is likely to receive more orders from Apple for the iPhone 14 lenses.

The analyst also recently reported that the iPhone 14 Pro series would exclusively feature the company’s upcoming A16 Bionic chip. Meanwhile, the regular iPhone 14 series — comprised of the purported iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Max — will supposedly pack last year’s A15 Bionic chip.

Besides this, a recent report also claims that the shipment of the iPhone 14 Max may get delayed due to production and supply chain issues. The company has previously faced delays related to sourcing of components for the iPhone 14 Max.

Last month, a report claimed that panel shipments of iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max were a month behind the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models.

iPhone 14 Series Component Suppliers List Reportedly Being Expanded by Apple

iPhone 14 models’ component suppliers will be expanded to help Apple cope up with supply chain issues, as per a noted analyst. Ming-Chi Kuo claims that SG Micro has passed the quality certification of the higher-end iPhone 14 models and will likely ship the power management integrated circuitry (PMIC) in the second half of 2022. The news follows a development according to which the iPhone 14 series’ trial production has started. The mass production of the iPhone 14 smartphones is planned to begin in August.

Kuo posted a string of tweets in which he said the China-based SG Micro has passed the quality certification of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models. The manufacturer and distributor of semiconductor products will likely ship the battery and level shifter for the iPhone 14 models. This will not only help Apple manage its supply chain issues, but also help SG Micro to drive up its revenue.

Recently, a report claimed that Apple has started trial production of the iPhone 14 models and it plans to mass-produce the models in August. The Cupertino-based company has reportedly told its suppliers that the initial sales of the iPhone 14 will be higher than what the iPhone 13 had a year ago. Furthermore, analysts believe that the Cupertino-based company’s sales will not be affected even if major economies enter a recession. In fact, iPhone sales reportedly remained strong in July despite a fall in overall smartphone demand.

iPhone 14 series, which is rumoured to include the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone Pro Max, are tipped to launch on September 13. The Pro models are claimed to feature a bigger camera bump due to an upgraded 48-megapixel sensor.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro models were recently reported to exclusively feature the new A16 chip by industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Meanwhile, the regular iPhone models will supposedly pack last year’s A15 chip.
