iPhone 15 Pro Rear Glass Replacement Is Now Much Cheaper and Easier Compared to iPhone 14 Pro: Details

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max — Apple’s high-end iPhone models that were launched last week as part of the iPhone 15 lineup — will support cheaper and easier rear glass replacements, according to the company’s support website. Thanks to a change in how the company built the two new smartphones, the cost of repairing the rear panel has dropped by a considerable amount, and is now on par with the standard models in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 series of smartphones.

According to Apple’s own support website, the cost of replacing the rear glass panel on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will cost $169 (roughly Rs. 14,100) and $199 (roughly Rs. 16,600), respectively. This is much cheaper than the cost of repairing the rear panel on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max — $ 499 (roughly Rs. 41,600) and $549 (roughly Rs. 45,750), respectively.

By changing the way it manufactures the body of the new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple has made it easier to replace the rear panel of the handset (via 9to5Mac). The glass panel on the back of the handsets will be easier to remove than their predecessors. Customers who have AppleCare+ coverage will be able to repair their rear glass panel for $29 (roughly Rs. 2,400).

Readers might recall that the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus that were announced at the company’s ‘Far Out’ event in September 2022 were also equipped with an easily removable glass panel. It appears that the changes to the chassis also made their way to the Pro models this year. Apple has equipped the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max with a titanium chassis instead of the stainless steel material used on its predecessors.

Back in 2022, Apple allowed authorised technicians to repair the TrueDepth camera on its handsets all the way back to the iPhone X, without replacing the entire smartphone. The mechanism used by Apple’s Face ID biometric authentication system a flood illuminator, dot projector, front camera, and an infrared (IR) camera — repairing the array of sensors was previously impossible without replacing the entire device.

iPhone 15, iPhone 14 Emergency SOS via Satellite Feature Expanding to Two New Countries

Apple introduced a safety feature called Emergency SOS via satellite last year with the iPhone 14 series. This functionality is designed to let users get in touch with emergency services when they do not have a cellular network or Wi-Fi connectivity. As planned, Apple is making Emergency SOS via satellite available in more countries later this month. The latest iPhone 15 series also gets this feature and it is free for the first two years with the activation of a handset. Apple’s Emergency SOS via satellite was only available in the US and Canada at the time of launch.

During the launch of the iPhone 15 series this week, Apple announced that it is expanding the Emergency SOS via satellite feature to Spain and Switzerland. With this development, iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 users in these regions will be able to contact emergency services and share their location with friends and family in places with no cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity. The functionality will be available by the end of this month.

Satellite features are included for free for two years with the activation of an iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 15, or iPhone 15 Pro.

The Emergency SOS via satellite feature debuted with the launch of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro last year. Initially, it was limited to the US and Canada and Apple expanded its availability to more countries at various points through the last few months. At present, the Emergency SOS via satellite is currently available in 14 countries including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, the UK, and the US. The feature requires the iOS 16.1 or later update to function in these countries.

The Emergency SOS via satellite service can be used during natural disasters and wilderness adventures. It will automatically appear when a user tries to call emergency services and a short questionnaire will be shown to help the user answer vital questions. Apple has also shared a video on YouTube to promote the impact of this safety feature. The four-minute video portrays iPhone 14 users who were saved from danger using Emergency SOS via satellite.

Meanwhile, Apple is all set to roll out another interesting feature called Roadside Assistance via satellite. It is designed to help iPhone users who are locked out of their vehicle or have car troubles like running out of fuel, in areas where cellular network coverage or Wi-Fi network are unavailable. This functionality will be exclusive to the US.

iPhone 14 Pro Series, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 12 Discontinued in India After iPhone 15 Series Launch

Apple unveiled the much-awaited iPhone 15 series on Tuesday, September 12 at its ‘Wonderlust’ event. The Cupertino-based tech giant has the habit of phasing out older products from its portfolio as new models are introduced. This year too, immediately after the debut of the new lineup, Apple has discontinued some older iPhone models in India to make way for the latest iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The models that have been discontinued are the iPhone 12, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The iPhone 14 Pro Max, last year’s high-end model was launched with a starting price tag of Rs. 1,39,900. Now, the handset is no longer listed on Apple’s India website. The withdrawal of the iPhone 14 Pro Max would make way for the new iPhone 15 Pro Max. Similarly, the iPhone 14 Pro has also been discontinued from Indian market. The handset was unveiled at the ‘Far Out’ event last year with an initial price tag of Rs. 1,29,900 for the 128GB storage option. Meanwhile, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus remain on sale in India at reduced prices.

Apple has also phased out the iPhone 13 mini (Review) to make more room for the new iPhone 15 models. The iPhone 13 mini was the cheapest model in the company’s 2021 iPhone series with a starting price tag of Rs. Rs. 69,900 for the 128GB storage model. It debuted as an alternative for people who were looking for a small flagship iPhone. It shares multiple similarities with the iPhone 13, albeit with a smaller display. However, the vanilla model is currently listed on Apple’s India website.

The withdrawal of the iPhone 13 mini will make the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 14, iPhone 13, and iPhone SE (2022) as company’s smaller-sized phones.

Apple also quietly dropped the iPhone 12 from its lineup too. The oldest model of the bunch was launched back in 2020 with a starting price tag of Rs. 59,900 for the base 128GB storage.

Users will not be able to purchase the iPhone 12, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max from Apple. However, one can still buy these handsets from third-party retailers and e-commerce sites like Amazon and Flipkart. They should also be available at brick-and-mortar stores until their stocks last.

The price of the iPhone 15 in India starts at Rs. 79,900 while the iPhone 15 Plus is priced at Rs. 89,900. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro pricing starts at Rs. 1,34,900, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at Rs. 1,59,900. They are currently up for pre-orders in India with sales set to begin on September 22.

iPhone 15 Pro Models May Cost Up to $200 More Than iPhone 14 Pro Variants: Report

iPhone 15 family— including the vanilla iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max — could be unveiled sometime in September. This year, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models are anticipated to be more expensive than the previous Pro models, and a new claim by a Barclays analyst corroborates this rumour. The vanilla iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will have the same price tag as the outgoing models. The iPhone 15 Pro is said to get new cameras and a faster chipset compared to the non-Pro models.

As reported by MacRumors, Barclays analyst Tim Long mentioned in an investor note that iPhone 15 Pro models will come with a higher price tag than the ongoing iPhone 14 Pro models this year. The iPhone 15 Pro will reportedly cost up to $100 (roughly Rs. 8,000) more than the iPhone 14 Pro, whereas the iPhone 15 Pro Max could see a price hike of $100 to $200 (roughly Rs. 16,000) more than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The analyst states that the pricing would remain similar for the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models.

In the US, the iPhone 14 Pro was launched at $999 (roughly Rs. 79,555), while the iPhone 14 Pro Max, currently the most expensive iPhone model on the market, was priced at $1,099 (roughly Rs. 87,530). Based on Tim Long’s estimate, the iPhone 15 Pro would start at $1,099, while iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to have an initial price tag of $1,199 (roughly Rs. 98,000) or even $1,299 (roughly Rs. 1,06,864).

The vanilla iPhone 14 was announced with a starting price tag of $799 (roughly Rs. 63,700) and the iPhone 14 Plus starts at $899 (roughly Rs. 71,600).

Analyst Jeff Pu earlier in July claimed that the iPhone 15 Pro Max model will be priced higher than the existing iPhone 14 Pro Max. The increased cost can be attributed to several rumoured hardware upgrades including a fresh periscope lens, titanium frames, solid-state buttons with haptic feedback, USB Type-C charging ports, a brand-new A17 Bionic chip, and increased RAM.

A Bloomberg report earlier this week also reiterated that the iPhone 15 could have a higher price tag than the ongoing models. Apple is allegedly planning to hike the price of 2023 iPhone models to increase revenue. The company has reportedly set a target to produce around 85 million iPhone 15 units this year.

iPhone 15 Pro Max to Be More Expensive Than iPhone 14 Pro Max: Jeff Pu

iPhone 15 Pro Max, also expected to launch with the moniker iPhone 15 Ultra, is said to debut later this year alongside the other purported iPhone 15 series models. The phone is said to succeed the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Several leaks and reports about the upcoming series have suggested that the lineup models are likely to offer bigger displays, batteries and have significantly better cameras than its preceding models. Apple Analyst Jeff Pu now says that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be priced higher than its series 14 counterpart.

A MacRumors report quotes Apple analyst Jeff Pu saying that the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Max will be offered at a higher price than its preceding handset at the time of launch. Pu earlier claimed that the all the iPhone 15 Pro models will be priced higher, however he has now only singled out the Pro Max model. The analyst reportedly did not specify a reason for this increment, but certain previous leaks can possibly hint at the explanation.

The model has been tipped previously to carry a larger battery than the one iPhone 14 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 series’s Pro Max model is said to carry a 4,852mAh battery, which is bigger than the 4,323mAh battery which its predecessor carries. The upcoming flagship Apple handset has also been reported to likely sport a 6.9-inch display. The iPhone 14 Pro Max comes with a 6.7‑inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel.

The high-end series 14 model features a triple rear camera unit which includes a 48-megapixel sensor with a wide-angle lens and an aperture of f/1.78 alongside support for Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), a 12-megapixel sensor also with an ultra-wide lens and another 12-megapixel sensor paired with a telephoto lens. Reports have suggested that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will offer better, higher-quality cameras.

An earlier leak claimed that the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Max handset will rework the rear camera setup to accommodate a periscope lens, which the phone has been speculated to carry. This lens could offer zooming capabilities of up to 6 times, which is claimed to ensure zoomed-in photographs without distortion or image quality loss.

In India, the iPhone 14 Pro Max started at Rs. 1,39,900 for the 128GB storage model during its launch. The 256GB storage variant is priced in the country at Rs. 1,49,900, while the 512GB storage option is available at Rs. 1,69,900. The highest storage variant of 1TB is offered at Rs. 1,89,900. The model is available in four colour options — Deep Purple, Gold, Silver, and Space Black.

iPhone 15 to Get 48-Megapixel Camera From iPhone 14 Pro Models, Production Could Be Delayed: Report

Apple has been packing improved cameras on iPhone models each year. Last year, the Cupertino-based company fitted a 48-megapixel primary rear camera sensor on the premium iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models. Whereas the affordable iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus debuted with a similar dual 12-megapixel rear camera setup as seen on the iPhone 13 lineup. This year, Apple is reportedly adding a 48-megapixel primary rear camera sensor in the base iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models. The new sensor would allow users to capture high-resolution ProRAW photos.

As per a report by MacRumors citing analyst Jeff Pu, the regular iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will have the same 48-megapixel rear camera as the iPhone 14 Pro models. This camera will reportedly use a new three-stacked sensor that can capture more light with improved image quality. This would allow users to take photos in Apple ProRAW.

The analyst suggests that Apple may face production delays for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus this year, caused by yield issues for the stacked 48-megapixel camera sensor. As of now, the iPhone 15 series comprising iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max models is expected to go official in September.

The current iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus include a dual rear camera unit, comprising a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera with f/1.7 aperture and a 12-megapixel sensor paired with f/2.4 aperture ultra-wide-angle lens. In contrast, the triple rear camera unit of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max include a 48-megapixel main camera with second-generation sensor-shift optical image stabilisation and f/1.78 aperture, a 12-megapixel telephoto sensor with f/1.78 aperture, and another 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.8 aperture.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are expected to be powered by an A16 Bionic chip, while the Pro models could run on A17 Bionic SoC. This year’s iPhone models are also said to feature a USB Type-C port for charging.

iPhone 15 Pro Tipped to Sport Thinnest Bezel in Smartphones; Screen Protector Images Leaked: Report

Apple is speculated to unveil its next generation of iPhone this year in September. Several rumours and leaks about the iPhone 15 series have been doing rounds on the internet for a while now. These rumours have given us a sneak peek into its expected specifications, but the Cupertino, California based company is yet to share any details on its upcoming devices. In the latest development, display specifications for the iPhone 15 Pro Max variant have been leaked, hinting at thinner bezels than last year’s iPhone 14 Pro Max. The image for the phone’s purported screen protector has also been leaked.

Popular tipster Ice Universe has shared the image of a purported screen protector for the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Max on Twitter. He has also shared a picture of how the front of the phone could appear. The leaked images suggest that the top-of-the-line iPhone 15 Pro Max might sport the thinnest bezels on an iPhone yet. This year’s iPhone 14 Pro Max also sports slim bezels to offer a premium viewing experience, however, the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Max will reportedly ship with thinner bezels than its predecessor. The iPhone 14 Pro Max has a bezel 2.17mm in size.

That’s not all, 91Mobiles has also reported that the upcoming top-end iPhone variant could even beat Xiaomi 13’s 1.81mm bezel size. Additionally, the bezels on the iPhone 15 Pro Max are also said to be more curved than the flatter ones on iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Meanwhile, a recent report has suggested that Apple will retain the traditional two-button design for volume control. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models are speculated to feature the traditional volume buttons instead of the singular solid-state haptic button. The report explained that Apple would require to install three new haptic engines within the iPhone hardware to incorporate the new buttons, which might delay production. Hence, the company would retain the traditional volume button on the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro models.

Earlier, it was reported that Apple will ditch the traditional Lightning port and bring a USB Type-C port to the rumoured iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max this year in order to comply with a European Union law.

Eight iPhone Models Emerged as Best-Selling Smartphones in 2022, iPhone 13 Topped the List: Counterpoint

2022 has been a remarkable year for Apple, according to a new report by a market research firm. The Cupertino-based tech giant continued to enjoy the lead in worldwide smartphone shipments with eight of its models featuring in the list of top 10 best-selling smartphones. Launched in 2021, the iPhone 13 emerged as the best-selling model, followed by the iPhone 13 Pro Max, and iPhone 14 Pro Max at second and third positions respectively. The list also includes iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 12, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone SE (2022). Samsung was represented in the top-10 list two entry-level Galaxy A series smartphones.

Market research firm Counterpoint Research in its latest Global Monthly Handset Model Sales Tracker report has listed the iPhone 13 as the best-selling phone of 2022. Launched in 2021, the smartphone powered by Apple’s A15 Bionic chip contributed to 28 percent of iPhone sales. The surge in demand for the old iPhone 13 series model is attributed to the price cuts post the launch of the iPhone 14 series in September last year. It was the best-selling smartphone in China, France, Germany, the US, and the UK.

While iPhone 13 Pro Max took the second spot, the new iPhone 14 Pro Max came in third place. Counterpoint noted that the Pro Max variant of an iPhone series drove more volume than its Pro and base models in 2022. Samsung’s budget offering Galaxy A13 occupied the fourth spot with the iPhone 13 Pro coming in a close fifth position.

The iPhone 12 took the sixth spot, followed by the new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro at seventh and eighth positions respectively. Apple’s budget offering, the iPhone SE (2022), grabbed the ninth position, while Samsung’s Galaxy A03 rounds off the top-ten list. Popularity across the Caribbean and Latin America (CALA) and India drove the sale of the entry-level device. However, with the latest report, Apple has become the first brand to capture eight spots in the list of top 10 best-selling smartphones.

Counterpoint expects that the share of the top 10 smartphones will increase in 2023 as brands focus on clearing inventory and optimising their launches. Brands are expected to make their portfolios leaner this year to minimise cannibalisation, according to the research firm.

iPhone 14 Pro Repair Process for Face ID, Selfie Camera Updated; May Not Require Phone Replacement: Report

Apple has reportedly updated the process of repairing the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, which could make it easier to fix issues with Face ID, the company’s biometric unlocking mechanism for smartphones, and the selfie camera. According to a report, while the process of repairing these phones typically involves replacing the smartphone, authorised Apple service centres and Apple Stores can resolve these issues by repairing the same unit. The changes are said to apply to only Apple’s high-end Pro models that were launched last September.

According to a 9to5Mac report, the iPhone maker has announced, via an internal memo, that Apple Stores and Apple Authorised Service Providers will be able to fix issues with the selfie (or TrueDepth) camera as well as the Face ID sensor on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, without having to replace the smartphone itself. This is expected to result in reduced electronic waste as part of the repair process.

Apple already supports same-unit repairs for the iPhone XS and newer models, except the iPhone 14 series that debuted last year, according to the report. However, it is currently unclear whether the changes to repairing the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max phones applies to all markets, and whether (or when) it will become the norm.

Meanwhile, the report states that iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus owners will have to wait for a while until same-unit repairs are supported on these handsets. Gadgets 360 has reached out to Apple for comment on whether the improved repair process applies to iPhone 14 Pro models in the country and will update this article when the company responds.

Last year, it was reported that Apple had expanded its Face ID repair programme allowing for repairs without replacing the entire device, to the iPhone X. The firm had previously initiated the programme for the iPhone XSiPhone 11iPhone 12, and iPhone 13 models.

iPhone 15 Lineup Could See More Difference Between Pro, Basic Models: Report

iPhone 14 series with four new models were launched at the ‘Far Out’ event in September this year. Apple introduced iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro as smaller models, while the iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 14 Pro Max debuted with larger screens. The early market trends reflected sluggish demand for the non-Pro models. Now, a new report suggests that Apple is “seriously” concerned about the sales performance of the iPhone 14 Plus and the Cupertino giant is looking to adopt new marketing strategies to make up for it during the release of the next iPhone series.

A new post by South Korean blog Naver suggests that Apple is “seriously” thinking about the sales performance of the iPhone 14 Plus and is considering new strategies for the upcoming iPhone 15 lineup. The decline in sales of the current non-pro models is reportedly far beyond the range predicted by Apple’s external environment.

Firstly, Apple could consider reducing the difference between the pro models and basic models. This is in line with the claim by analyst Ross Young that the Dynamic Island feature, which is currently available only on iPhone 14 Pro models could reach all iPhone models next year.

Apple is also considering changing the pricing strategy of upcoming iPhone models and the ‘price will be set differently than it is now’. It may reduce the price of the Plus model of the 2023 lineup. The iPhone 14 Plus price in India starts at Rs. 89,900. In contrast, the price of the iPhone 14 Pro Max starts at Rs. 1,39,900.

However, known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo earlier said that Apple will increase the gap between the Pro and non-Pro iPhone models further and offer exclusive features in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Kuo stated that the company wants to increase the average selling price (ASP) of the iPhone units.

Further, the blog post states that the difference in material and camera parts between the pro model and the max will be definitive. This corroborates past leaks, that suggested a titanium chassis and periscope zoom camera on the iPhone 15 Pro Max model. The high-end models in iPhone 15 series are tipped to come with solid-state buttons instead of physical volume and power buttons.

Apple’s 2023 iPhone lineup is said to comprise the standard iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max models. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are expected to be powered by Apple’s next-generation A17 Bionic chip. The non-Pro models could feature the A16 Bionic chip.
