iPhone 15 Pro Max Ranks Second on DxOMark’s Camera test

iPhone 15 Pro Max, the top-of-the-line smartphone in the iPhone 15 lineup, has ranked second in DxOMark’s camera test. The phone launched alongside the base iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro at the Apple Wonderlust event on September 12. Among the many sub-sections that the handset was marked on, there are multiple categories, including photo, video, zoom, preview and bouquet features.

According to the DxOMark test, the 15 Pro Max scored 154 points and ranked second only behind the Huawei P60 Pro which scored 156 points. The photos captured with the iPhone 15 Pro Max show good brightness and contrast when viewed on an HDR-enabled display.

The test concluded that the iPhone 15 Pro Max cameras also offer an almost-accurate exposure and natural colour and skin tone rendering with fast and accurate autofocus. The phone is also said to offer video stabilisation.

DxOMark states that the new zoom features of the flagship iPhone 15 model tended to be effective in general, but did not have consistency “across all ranges.” It added that the handset failed to mitigate “unwanted artefacts, including flare, ghosting, and aliasing” as well as disturbances in low-light photographs.

The preceding iPhone 14 Pro Max secured the ninth position on the scale. The newly launched handset features a 48-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a 12-megapixel 3x telephoto camera, and a 12-megapixel periscope camera with up to 5x optical zoom performance.

The triple rear camera of the iPhone 14 Pro Max packs a 48-megapixel sensor with a wide-angle lens with OIS, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, and a 12-megapixel telephoto sensor with a periscope lens. The front camera holds a 12-megapixel TrueDepth sensor.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max is behind the Huawei P60 Pro, which comes with a 48-megapixel primary sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS), a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and another 48-megapixel telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom. The rear camera units are accompanied by an LED flash and a 13-megapixel front camera sensor.

Sporting a 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is equipped with Apple’s Ceramic Shield material. It is powered by a 3nm chipset, the A17 Pro, and features an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The phone claims to offer a battery life of up to 29 hours, similar to the preceding iPhone 14 Pro Max. It starts in India at Rs. 1,59,900 for the base 256GB storage variant.

iPhone 15 Series Battery Capacities, Wattage Reportedly Revealed via Regulatory Database: Details

iPhone 15 series’ battery capacities and wattage details have reportedly been revealed thanks to a regulatory database. Apple does not publish details of the batteries in its smartphones, aside from battery backup — in hours. However, a new report reveals that the iPhone 15 Pro models are equipped with slightly larger batteries than last year’s models. It is worth noting that Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are equipped with a new 3nm A17 Pro chip, which is expected to offer better efficiency (and performance) compared to last year’s Pro models.

A MySmartPrice report states that the details of the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max batteries have been listed on a Chinese regulatory database. The publication did not reveal the name of the database, but includes details of both the capacity and wattage of all four models in the iPhone 15 series.

According to the report, the iPhone 15 is equipped with a 3,349mAh battery with a wattage of 12.981Wh. The regular iPhone 14 that was launched last year featured a 3,279mAh battery. The iPhone 15 Plus is equipped with a 4,383mAh battery with a wattage of 16.950Wh, slightly higher than the iPhone 14 Plus, which had a battery capacity of 4,235mAh.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro reportedly packs a 3,274mAh battery with a wattage of 12.70Wh, slightly higher than the iPhone 14 Pro, which has a 3,200mAh unit. On the other hand, the top-of-the-line iPhone 15 Pro Max features a 4,422mAh battery with a wattage of 17.109Wh — this is slightly higher than its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which was equipped with a 4,323mAh battery.

Apple does not reveal the battery capacities of its smartphones, unlike other smartphone OEMs. Instead, it reveals the typical battery life offered by the smartphone. According to the company, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will offer the best battery life in the lineup — offering up to 29 hours of video playback. The iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 offer 25 hours, 23 hours, and 20 hours of battery life, respectively.

A recent report also revealed another specification that Apple typically keeps under wraps — the amount of RAM on its smartphones. Apple previously upgraded the available RAM on its smartphone from 4GB to 6GB when it launched the iPhone 13 Pro, and the company’s iPhone 15 Pro models are the first handsets to feature 8GB of RAM while the non-Pro models are equipped with 6GB of RAM, according to a report

iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max specifications

The newly launched iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models sport a 6.1-inch OLED display and the company’s proprietary Ceramic Shield technology for improved durability. The iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro Max are equipped with a larger 6.7-inch OLED display. Both Pro models also support ProMotion with a refresh rate that ranges between 1Hz and 120Hz.

The iPhone 15 models are powered by the same A16 Bionic chip that powered Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro models that were launched in September 2022. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro are equipped with the company’s next-generation A17 Pro chip that is based on the latest 3nm technology that is claimed to offer improved performance and efficiency over last year’s models.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are available in five colour options

This year, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus get a 48-megapixel primary camera along with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models come with an improved version of the 48-megapixel sensor that made its debut on last year’s Pro models. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are equipped with a 3x and 5x telephoto camera — the latter features a periscope camera setup with a focal length of 120mm.

All four iPhone models are equipped with the company’s latest U2 Ultra-wideband chip for improved tracking of the company’s new devices including the latest Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2.

This year, Apple finally dropped support for its 10-year-old Lightning connector and equipped all four models with a USB Type-C port, in order to comply with EU regulations that go into effect next year. However, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus only offer USB 2 support while the Pro models come with USB 3 that supports transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps — with an “optional” USB cable, as the one included in the box will be a regular USB 2 cable.

iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max Equipped With 8GB of RAM Alongside A17 Pro Chip: Report

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are equipped with more RAM than their predecessors, according to a report. The Cupertino company’s iPhone 15 series of smartphones — comprising the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max — feature different amounts of memory and the Pro models are equipped with Apple’s next-generation A17 Pro chip. The iPhone maker does not typically disclose the amount of RAM available in its smartphones or tablets.

MacRumors and X (formerly Twitter) user @aaronp613 spotted files in the release candidate for Xcode 15 — Apple’s integrated development environment (IDE) — that indicate the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are equipped with 8GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the files reveal that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models feature 6GB of RAM.

This means that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are equipped with an additional 2GB of memory compared to their predecessors. It is also the first time that the company has upgraded the amount of RAM on its smartphones since the iPhone 13 Pro, which was the firm’s first handset with 6GB of RAM. Last year, all models in the iPhone 14 series of smartphones were equipped with the same amount of memory, and this year’s iPhone 15 and iPhone Plus also have 6GB of RAM.

As previously mentioned, Apple doesn’t officially reveal the amount of RAM that its smartphones are equipped with. However, we can expect these details to be revealed in the coming weeks, thanks to teardown videos that will give us a look at the components Apple used to build these handsets.

While 8GB of RAM is a far cry from the vast amount of memory available on Android smartphones — the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro and Realme GT 5 are both equipped with a whopping 24GB of RAM — it is worth noting that Android and iOS handle memory in different ways.

The additional RAM on the iPhone 15 Pro models is expected to bring an increase in performance alongside the powerful new 3nm A17 Pro chip on the handsets. We do not know whether the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are equipped with a different type of RAM compared to the regular iPhone 15 models, but these details should also be revealed in teardown videos in the coming days.

iPhone 15 Series Camera Specifications Leaked Ahead of September 12 Launch: All Details

iPhone 15 series is expected to launch on September 12 at Apple’s Wonderlust event. The lineup is expected to offer four models – iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. There have been several leaks and rumours on the upcoming iPhone 15 smartphones in the past few months, and there’s no stopping them. Ahead of the launch on September 12, a new leak has surfaced online that tips the camera specifications of the iPhone 15 models.

As per a MacRumors report, the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus are expected to be equipped with a 48-megapixel primary rear sensor with an aperture of f/1.6, which is a significant improvement over the 12-megapixel main sensor of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. There is also said to be a secondary a 12-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens and an aperture of f/2.4.

The report added that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models are expected to launch with a 48-megapixel Sony IMX803 primary rear sensor with an aperture of f/1.78, a 12.7-megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens and an aperture of f/2.8, and a 13.4-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens with an aperture of f/2.2. The high-end iPhone Pro Max is expected to come with a periscopic telephoto lens.

A recent report suggested that the iPhone 15 Pro variants are likely to cost more than the preceding models over its rumoured upgraded hardware, which is tipped to include a new titanium chassis over stainless steel ones and a periscope lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The new chassis is expected to bring down the weight of the iPhone models.

This year, users in India could get the iPhone 15 on the same day as the global release. A report hinted that the iPhone 15 models manufactured under the Make in India campaign are likely to launch alongside the global launch of the lineup with little or no delay at all. Meanwhile, a tipster recently stated that the iPhone 15 Pro Max release could be delayed by up to 4 weeks over its September 12 launch date due to camera sensor production issues.

iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max Could Feature Titanium Chassis That Cuts Weight by Nearly 8 Percent: Report

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are likely to be lighter than their predecessors, according to a report. The company’s next-generation smartphones are expected to arrive in September with a few notable hardware upgrades including a modern USB Type-C port while the Pro models are also tipped to bear a titanium chassis instead of stainless steel used on the iPhone 14 Pro and earlier handsets. As a result, the weight of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max could drop by up to 8 percent when compared with previous models.

9to5Mac predicts that the iPhone 15 Pro will weigh 191g, which is lighter than its predecessor iPhone 14 Pro, which weighs 206g. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro Max could weigh 221g, which means it would weigh less than the iPhone 14 Pro Max that weighs 240g. These represent a decrease of 7.2 percent and 7.9 percent for the Pro and Pro Max models, respectively.

It is worth noting that these are merely predictions and Apple is yet to announce any details of the purported iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Even if the predictions are true, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro will only feel slightly lighter than their predecessors. However, it could help offset the weight of an additional protective case on these smartphones. They are also expected to remain heavier than the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, that are expected to feature an aluminium chassis.

Along with the rumoured switch to the titanium chassis, Apple is planning on introducing two new colour options with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, as per a recent report. The phones are tipped to launch in new Dark Blue and Titan Gray colour options while the existing Gold and Deep Purple colourways could reportedly be discontinued.

Earlier reports suggest that the iPhone 15 series will also offer faster data transmission speeds, thanks to the expected arrival of a USB Type-C port that will replace the proprietary Lightning connector. However, Thunderbolt-grade transfer speeds are unlikely to be the only advantage of the modern connector. Apple is also planning to bring support for faster wired charging speeds — up to 35W — on its upcoming smartphones, according to reports.

iPhone 15 Pro Max to Be More Expensive Than iPhone 14 Pro Max: Jeff Pu

iPhone 15 Pro Max, also expected to launch with the moniker iPhone 15 Ultra, is said to debut later this year alongside the other purported iPhone 15 series models. The phone is said to succeed the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Several leaks and reports about the upcoming series have suggested that the lineup models are likely to offer bigger displays, batteries and have significantly better cameras than its preceding models. Apple Analyst Jeff Pu now says that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be priced higher than its series 14 counterpart.

A MacRumors report quotes Apple analyst Jeff Pu saying that the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Max will be offered at a higher price than its preceding handset at the time of launch. Pu earlier claimed that the all the iPhone 15 Pro models will be priced higher, however he has now only singled out the Pro Max model. The analyst reportedly did not specify a reason for this increment, but certain previous leaks can possibly hint at the explanation.

The model has been tipped previously to carry a larger battery than the one iPhone 14 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 series’s Pro Max model is said to carry a 4,852mAh battery, which is bigger than the 4,323mAh battery which its predecessor carries. The high-end series 14 model features a triple rear camera unit which includes a 48-megapixel sensor with a wide-angle lens and an aperture of f/1.78 alongside support for Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), a 12-megapixel sensor also with an ultra-wide lens and another 12-megapixel sensor paired with a telephoto lens. Reports have suggested that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will offer better, higher-quality cameras.

An earlier leak claimed that the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Max handset will rework the rear camera setup to accommodate a periscope lens, which the phone has been speculated to carry. This lens could offer zooming capabilities of up to 6 times, which is claimed to ensure zoomed-in photographs without distortion or image quality loss.

In India, the iPhone 14 Pro Max started at Rs. 1,39,900 for the 128GB storage model during its launch. The 256GB storage variant is priced in the country at Rs. 1,49,900, while the 512GB storage option is available at Rs. 1,69,900. The highest storage variant of 1TB is offered at Rs. 1,89,900.
