Xiaomi 14 Ultra Tipped to Launch in March Next Year, May Get Larger Battery Than Xiaomi 13 Ultra

Xiaomi 14 series with the vanilla Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro models is now official in China. The Chinese smartphone company is reportedly working on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra as a potential successor to the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. Xiaomi is yet to divulge anything about the flagship phone, but thanks to a new leak, we now have an idea on when the handset could go official. The battery capacity of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra has also been tipped. The upcoming smartphone is expected to run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC.

A Chinese tipster has claimed that the Xiaomi 14 Ultra will make its way to the market in March next year. The Huawei P70 Series and Vivo X100 Ultra are also said to go official in the first quarter of 2024. Additionally, a report by CNMO (Chinese) alleges that the handset will have a 5,500mAh battery. If this rumour turns out to be true, this would be a significant upgrade over the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, which housed a 5,000mAh battery.

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is rumoured to come with a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with 2K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. It is said to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. It is expected to pack a quad rear camera unit, comprising a 1-inch Sony Lytia LYT-900 sensor.

It is expected to come with improvements over the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. The predecessor was launched in April with a price tag of CNY 5,999 (roughly Rs. 71,600) for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant.

Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s siblings, the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro, were unveiled in China in the last week of October. The pair runs on the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and ships with Xiaomi’s HyperOS interface. The Xiaomi 14 series smartphones feature LTPO OLED displays with up to 2K resolution and 120Hz dynamic refresh rate. They flaunt a Leica-tuned triple rear camera setup. Both phones feature up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. They have an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.

Xiaomi launched its camera focussed flagship Xiaomi 13 Ultra smartphone, while Apple opened it’s first stores in India this week. Redmi K70 Renders Leak Online; Suggests Redesigned Camera Bump

Redmi K70 could be inching towards its launch as its renders have surfaced online providing the first apparent glimpse at the design. The leaked renders suggest a white colour option for the smartphone and it is seen with a hole punch cutout on the display. The screen appears to have slightly thick bezels as well. In the leaked images, the handset is seen with a triple rear camera unit alongside an LED flash. The Redmi K70 could succeed the Redmi K60 that went official in December last year.

Tipster Anvin (@ZionsAnvin) has posted renders showing the purported Redmi K70 in a white shade. We see a different rear camera bump on the new handset compared to the Redmi K60. Three sensors alongside the LED flash are seen arranged in four individual square-shaped modules on the rectangular-shaped camera island. In the older model, three cameras were arranged in a line. On the front of the phone, we can see a centrally placed hole-punch cutout for housing the selfie shooter and a flat display. The display is seen with slim bezels.

Further, the Redmi K70 appears to have a power button and the volume rocker on the left spine. The power button also looks like it could double as a fingerprint sensor.

The Redmi K60 series was launched in global markets outside China as Poco F5. It is, therefore, believed that the Redmi K70 could be renamed as the Poco F6 when it eventually arrives in Europe, India, and other markets. However, Xiaomi has not officially shared any details about the Redmi K70 series yet. Therefore these details can be taken with a pinch of salt.

Redmi K60 was launched with a price tag of CNY 2,499 (roughly Rs. 30,000) for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model. It features a 6.67-inch 2K (1,440×3,200 pixels) AMOLED display with up to 120Hz refresh rate and runs on Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. It has a 64-megapixel triple rear camera setup. It is backed by a 5,500mAh battery with support for 67W wired fast charging and 30W wireless fast charging support.

India Smartphone Sector Stagnant in Q3 2023, Realme Overtakes Vivo in Market Share: IDC

A recent research states that sluggish performance in the quarter caused India’s smartphone market to remain flat year over year in Q3 2023 with shipments of 44 million units. Its forecast for the market in 2023 suggests that shipments will remain steady or decline slightly. The research adds that the first two months of the third quarter, July and August, saw single-digit growth as the channels began early seasonal stocking. However, September saw the lowest shipments since 2019 due to dwindling demand and high prices.

A report by International Data Corporation (IDC) says that the Indian smartphone market maintained a flat 44 million units of shipments in Q3, resulting in a flat growth on a year-on-year basis. The ASP (average selling price) increased by 12 percent YoY and 5 percent QoQ (quarter-over-quarter) and peaked at $253 (roughly Rs. 21,000).

The report noted that vendors across all channels, online and offline, prioritised budget 5G smartphones over others. 5G smartphone shipments accounted for 25 million units, setting a record 58 percent share. Since most 5G models were released in the mass budget bracket ($100 < $200 (roughly Rs. 8,300 < Rs. 16,700)), the segment’s 5G share has increased from 34 percent to 52 percent. The top three 5G models shipped in the third quarter of the year were Apple’s iPhone 13, Xiaomi’s Redmi 12, and Samsung’s Galaxy A14.

Samsung overtook Vivo as the most popular brand, despite a YoY fall in shipments. Among the top five brands, Samsung had the highest ASP at $381 (roughly Rs. 31,700), increasing 43 percent year over year. The report also noted that with the help of the recently released Realme C53 and Realme 11x, the Chinese brand rose to the second position. With the exception of iQoo, Vivo had the fastest growth among the top five brands, thanks to its reasonably priced Vivo Y and Vivo T series phones. Poco and OnePlus both saw YoY growth of 50 percent or more, with the OnePlus Nord CE3 Lite accounting for 35 percent of shipments.

In just one quarter, shipments of foldable phones reached a record 500,000 units, with Samsung holding a 66 percent market share. The average selling price of foldable phones dropped from $1,319 (roughly Rs. 1,09,800) to $1,198 (roughly Rs. 99,800) from a year ago owing to new releases by Motorola at cheaper price points.

Shipments via offline channels grew by double digits in Q3 2023 and remained bigger than online channels. According to the report, a number of eTailer events (like Amazon Great India Festival and Flipkart’s Big Billion Days) with exclusive online deals and special platform pricing helped boost demand online.

Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G, Poco M6 Pro 4G Get FCC Certification Ahead of Global Launch: Report

Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 13 series, which includes the base model Redmi Note 13, the Redmi Note 13 Pro, and Redmi Note 13 Pro+, in China back in September. All three phones in the series feature a 6.67-inch 1.5K full-HD+ AMOLED display. The Chinese manufacturer is said to be gearing up to introduce the lineup globally. Ahead of that, the 4G variant of the Pro model from the Redmi Note 13 series has reportedly been spotted on the FCC certification website.

According to a report from MySmartPrice, the 4G variant of the Redmi Note 13 Pro has received an FCC certification. The FCC listing also reportedly reveals a few key details about the Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G. The handset could get a 200-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS), along with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens. The phone may likely run on Android 13-based MIUI 14 out-of-the-box. The FCC listing does not suggest any further details about the upcoming handset.

In addition to the Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G, the FCC certification site also lists another 4G phone — the Poco M6 Pro 4G, which seems to be a rebranded version of the Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G. According to the report, the Poco M6 Pro 4G — listed as model number 2312FPCA6G —will sport a 64-megapixel main camera with OIS support, instead of the 200-megapixel sensor seen on Note 13 Pro 4G model. It will be accompanied by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens. The rebranded Poco handset is also said to run MIUI 14. Xiaomi has not confirmed any details about the two handsets.

The Redmi Note 13 series was introduced in China in September. The Note 13 Pro 5G launched with a 6.67-inch 1.5K full-HD+ AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset, paired with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB of onboard storage. The 5G model has the same camera specifications revealed in the FCC listing for its 4G variant. It also packs a 5,100mAh battery with support for 67W wired fast charging.

Meanwhile, the 5G variant of the Poco M6 Pro was launched in India in August. The smartphone features a 6.79-inch FHD+ display with 90Hz refresh rate. It runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC, paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. The dual rear camera setup includes a 50-megapixel AI sensor and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

Oppo Find X7 Pro, Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Vivo X100 Pro+ Tipped to Get Sony LYT-900 Sensor

Oppo, Xiaomi, and Vivo – leading smartphone manufacturing companies, are reportedly testing new camera hardware. A tipster suggests that the firms are planning to use the new Sony LYT-900 sensor in their upcoming flagship smartphones. The models tipped to get the new Sony 1-inch sensor are the Oppo Find X7 Pro, Xiaomi 14 Ultra, and Vivo X100 Pro+. In fact, the Oppo Find X7 Pro could be the first smartphone to launch with Sony’s new LYT-900 sensors.

Tipster Digital Chat Station (translated from Chinese) shared in a Weibo post that Oppo, Xiaomi, and Vivo are testing upcoming handsets with Sony LYT-900 cameras. According to the post, the tests are running well and premium models from all three brands could feature the 1-inch Sony Lytia LYT-900 sensor in their rear camera modules.

The handsets said to get this new camera are the Oppo Find X7 Pro, Xiaomi 14 Ultra, and Vivo X100 Pro+. The post suggests that the Find X7 Pro will likely be the first among the three to be released in the market. However, if rumours about their launch dates are to be believed, it is likely that all three smartphones will be unveiled in quick succession from one another. Therefore, there will truly not be a lasting amount of exclusivity around the release of the models with the Sony LYT-900 sensors.

According to a GSMArena report, the Sony LYT-900 sensor is likely to come with a new DCG (Dual Conversion Gain) technology that is expected to reduce image noise and improve image output in low light conditions.

Recently, the Realme GT 5 Pro model, which is expected to launch soon, was reported to carry the Sony LYTIA LYT808 as its primary sensor, an OmniVision OV08D10 secondary sensor, and a Sony IMX890 telephoto sensor. In its rumoured triple rear camera unit the phone is expected to come with two 50-megapixel and an 8-megapixel shooter.
