Samsung Galaxy S24 FE in the Works, to Launch Earlier Than Usual: Report

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE was launched in October last year as a tweaked variant of the regular Galaxy S23. Now, the Galaxy S24 FE is said to be in the works as a successor. A new report from a Korean news outlet indicates that a Samsung supplier has started mass production of display driver chips for the Galaxy S24 FE and the handset will go official in the summer. This rumoured timeline is considerably earlier than the release of any previous Fan Edition model. The Galaxy S24 FE is expected to debut as a toned-down version of the vanilla Galaxy S24.

As per a report by The Elec, Galaxy S24 FE is scheduled to be released this summer. The report citing industry sources claims that a Samsung supplier has begun mass production of TED (TCON Embedded Driver IC) for the organic light emitting diode (OLED) of the upcoming Fan Edition smartphone.

The Galaxy S24 FE’s rumoured summer launch window (June to August) would be earlier than the Galaxy S23 FE launch. The latter was announced in October last year, around eight months after the debut of the Galaxy S23 series in February. The upcoming model is likely to come as a watered-down variant of Galaxy S24.

If this report turns out to be true, then Samsung will have an eventful second half this year. The company is expected to announce the Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Watch 7 lineup and more around July and August.

As per past leaks, the Galaxy S24 FE will get a 6.1-inch AMOLED display and could run on Exynos 2400 SoC or Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC depending on the market. It is said to feature 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and could be offered in 128GB and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage options. It is rumoured to be backed by a 4,500mAh battery.

Google’s Circle to Search Feature Rolling Out to Pixel 6 Series, Samsung Galaxy S23 Lineup, and More

Google’s Circle to Search was introduced in January this year with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. This was packed alongside a few other AI-backed features like Live Translate and Note Assist. However, later that month, with the January Pixel feature drop, the tech giant brought the feature to the Pixel 8 models. Earlier in March, the company also extended this feature to the Pixel 7 lineup. Now, Google has announced that more Android handsets will have access to the Circle to Search tool.

The Mountain View-based search giant has confirmed that the feature is “currently rolling out to more Android devices”. The rollout will begin this week and it will be available on the Google Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet. It will also be available on the Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5 as well as the Galaxy Tab S9 series.

As of today, Google’s Circle to Search feature is already available in several flagship handsets including Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, Galaxy S24 Ultra, Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 8, and Pixel 8 Pro.

Google also mentioned in the post that the Circle to Search feature can help users shop for specific styles or items without much hassle. It can also assist users during their travels to foreign places, especially ones with a different language than their native ones, by instantly translating anything that is on their screen. All users need to do is long-press the home button or navigation bar and tap the translate option.

The Circle to Search feature allows users to search anything, instantly, without switching apps with a few gestures. Users can circle, scribble, highlight or tap anything on their screen, like images, part of an image or text, and opt for the search option. It not only gives information quicker but with Generative AI support, it is meant to aid in more complex research.

Samsung’s Galaxy AI Features to Land on Galaxy S23 Series, Latest Foldable, Tablets: Report

Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra were unveiled at the company’s Galaxy Unpacked event in San Jose, California on Wednesday with One UI 6.1. The Android 14-based custom skin by Samsung brings many AI features like Live Translate, Chat Assist, Note Assist, and Circle to Search to offer a new Galaxy AI experience. Now, Samsung has reportedly confirmed that a bunch of older flagship Galaxy devices will have access to several new AI features introduced with the Galaxy S24 series. Last year’s Galaxy S23 series and its latest foldables are said to get Galaxy AI features.

As per a report by Android Authority, several new AI features that debuted with the Galaxy S24 series will land on previously released Samsung devices. Samsung reportedly confirmed that the company will bring many of the Galaxy AI features introduced on Galaxy S24 on previous models including the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series in the first half of this year. Currently, it’s unclear which Galaxy AI features will be available across every old device.

Galaxy AI brings tools and features aimed at communication, productivity, and content creation that are integrated with One UI 6.1. It includes a Chat Assist functionality to translate languages in real-time or perform tone correction in texts and emails. There’s also Google-backed Circle to Search that combines text-based queries with visual search. The Live Translate feature assists in two-way real-time voice and text translations of phone calls within the native Phone app. Android Auto will now automatically summarise incoming messages and suggest relevant replies and actions in car. And Note Assist in Samsung Notes now offers AI-generated summaries.

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 was launched with a starting price tag of Rs. 79,999 for the base 8GB + 256GB storage variant. The Galaxy S24+ pricing starts at Rs. 99,999, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra has a starting price tag of Rs. 1,29,999. The phones are available for pre-order in India.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE With Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC Hinted in Big Year End Sale Teaser, Listed on Flipkart

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE debuted in India alongside the Galaxy Tab S9 FE and Galaxy Buds FE in October. The ‘Fan Edition’ Galaxy smartphone sports a 6.4-inch Dynamic full-HD+ AMOLED 2X display with 120Hz refresh rate, a 50-megapixel primary camera, and a 4,500mAh battery. While the handset runs on Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor in global markets, it comes with the in-house Exynos 2200 chipset in India. A Flipkart listing and a sale teaser on the e-commerce website, however, suggest that a Snapdragon chipset variant of the phone could be arriving in the Indian market soon.

Flipkart seems to have listed the Galaxy S23 FE with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC on its site. While the product currently is out of stock, a teaser for an upcoming Samsung phone during the Big Year End sale hints at an imminent launch.

The teaser, spotted on Big Year End sale page on the Flipkart app, shows a Samsung handset with triple rear cameras, listed as “coming soon,” alongside the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G and the Vivo X100 series. The sale teaser, which reads “The New Epic,” doesn’t give away any details about the handset, but the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S23 FE product page shows the price of the handset listed as Rs. 56,500. The listing features the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant of the phone in the Purple colourway.

The teaser spotted on the Flipkart app shows an upcoming Samsung phone

While the Big Year End sale teaser and the product listing hints at Galaxy S23 FE getting the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor in India, Samsung hasn’t announced any plans to introduce the new variant in the market here. The Flipkart listing could also be an error.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE succeeded the Galaxy S21 FE, launched over two years ago in January 2021. The South Korean tech conglomerate skipped the ‘Fan Edition’ phone for Galaxy S22 generation. Launched in October, the Galaxy S23 FE sports a triple rear camera setup comprising a 50-megapixel sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS), a 12-megapixel sensor with an ultrawide lens and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera. In India, the phone currently runs on an Exynos 2200 chipset. It is priced at Rs. 59,999 for the 8GB + 128GB RAM and storage model, while the 8GB+256GB variant comes in at Rs. 64,999.

Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series of smartphones was launched earlier this week and the South Korean firm’s high-end handsets have seen a few upgrades across all three models. Samsung Galaxy S24 Series Launch Date Tipped Again; Said to Debut Earlier Than Expected

Samsung Galaxy S24 series is expected to launch soon. It is said to succeed the Galaxy S23 series, which was released in February this year. Speculations and rumours about Samsung’s upcoming flagship series started soon after the launch of the previous smartphones. Like preceding lineups, the new series of smartphones is tipped to include three models — the base Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra. There have been multiple leaks and reports suggesting key details of the purported models. A new report suggests that the lineup may launch sooner than expected.

A SBS Biz report states that the Galaxy S24 series will be launched on January 17 at an event in San Francisco, USA. This substantiates previous claims that placed the launch of the series somewhere between early and mid-January.

The report suggests that Samsung is looking to launch the Galaxy S24 earlier than usual because it looks at the flagship series as its “saviour” product (translated from Korean) after it suffered from lower-than-expected performances in its semiconductor business, as well as Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 sales, which were introduced in a Galaxy Unpacked event held in Seoul on July 26.

It is speculated that the move may also be influenced by the aim to keep up with its competitor Apple, which unveiled its iPhone 15 series not so long back in September. Notably, the Galaxy S23 series was launched this year on February 17, while the year before that the South Korean tech giant introduced its Galaxy S22 flagship models on February 10, 2022. Bringing the launch of the Galaxy S24 lineup, the company may be aiming to offer a stronger race to its market rivals.

The Galaxy S23 FE model will also be released in South Korea at a price of KRW 800,000 (roughly Rs. ) on December 1, according to the report. This will also reportedly to try and mitigate the effects of sluggish sales of the Galaxy S23 series’ phones which was thought to be a result of a general economic downturn in the country. The company is said to expect that the mid-range Fan Edition model will drive up sales.
