Google’s Circle to Search Feature Rolling Out to Pixel 6 Series, Samsung Galaxy S23 Lineup, and More

Google’s Circle to Search was introduced in January this year with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. This was packed alongside a few other AI-backed features like Live Translate and Note Assist. However, later that month, with the January Pixel feature drop, the tech giant brought the feature to the Pixel 8 models. Earlier in March, the company also extended this feature to the Pixel 7 lineup. Now, Google has announced that more Android handsets will have access to the Circle to Search tool.

The Mountain View-based search giant has confirmed that the feature is “currently rolling out to more Android devices”. The rollout will begin this week and it will be available on the Google Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet. It will also be available on the Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5 as well as the Galaxy Tab S9 series.

As of today, Google’s Circle to Search feature is already available in several flagship handsets including Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, Galaxy S24 Ultra, Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 8, and Pixel 8 Pro.

Google also mentioned in the post that the Circle to Search feature can help users shop for specific styles or items without much hassle. It can also assist users during their travels to foreign places, especially ones with a different language than their native ones, by instantly translating anything that is on their screen. All users need to do is long-press the home button or navigation bar and tap the translate option.

The Circle to Search feature allows users to search anything, instantly, without switching apps with a few gestures. Users can circle, scribble, highlight or tap anything on their screen, like images, part of an image or text, and opt for the search option. It not only gives information quicker but with Generative AI support, it is meant to aid in more complex research.

Google I/O 2024 Set to Take Place on May 14: Android 15, Pixel 8a, More Expected

Google is hosting its next I/O developer conference on May 14. The company followed its tradition of posting a ‘Break the Loop puzzle’ before revealing the dates for its developer-focused annual conference. This will be an in-person event and it will be live-streamed across all Google’s official channels. The annual event is expected to focus on Google’s latest advancements in AI. The event will presumably disclose the new features set to arrive in Android 15, Chrome and Google’s other services like Gmail, Google Photos, and more. It is expected to tease some new hardware including the Google Pixel 8a.

The tech giant has revealed the date for this year’s I/O conference through a dedicated event website on Thursday (March 14). The live event will take place on May 14 at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, the regular venue for the I/O conference. As always, Google is expected to livestream the keynote via the I/O website and its YouTube channels. The developer session could be limited for the attendees. Similar to past years, developers can register for the event for free and get email updates about the schedule and content.

Besides developer-focused talks about apps and product developments, Google’s annual event is anticipated to reveal its next steps in the fast-moving AI field including possible announcements about  Android XR and Gemini. We are likely to learn about new features of Chrome, Android 15, and other Google products.

Google showed off the Pixel 7a at least year’s event. Based on this, the company is expected to provide a look at the upcoming Pixel 8a smartphone during the May 14 event. It is said to feature a 6.1-inch display with 90Hz refresh rate and could run on Google’s Tensor G3 SoC alongside 8GB of RAM. It is expected to be more expensive than its predecessor.

Last year’s I/O also saw the launch of Pixel Fold as Google’s first foldable phone. So we can also expect potential teasers for the Pixel Fold 2 and Pixel 9 series this time.

Google I/O 2023 saw the search giant repeatedly tell us that it cares about AI, alongside the launch of its first foldable phone and Pixel-branded tablet. Google Pixel 7a Unboxing Images Tip Arctic Blue, Carbon Black Colour Options

Google Pixel 7a is expected to launch soon in the market. It has been spotted on several certification sites over the past few weeks and have also made headlines for other leaks. Some reports have suggested key specifications of the purported device, and others have suggested features like design renders and colour options. A few reports have also suggested the price range of the upcoming handset. A new leak now shows live unboxing images of the Pixel 7a, hinting two new colour options.

A tweet thread by tipster account SnoopyTech (@_snoopytech_) shows the unboxing of the Pixel 7a handset in a series of photographs. In the images, the phone is seen in Arctic Blue and Charcoal Black colour options. The blue variant is reminiscent of the Barely Blue colour option that the Pixel 4a offered.

The design also shows a slightly raised rectangular camera module spanning the rear panel of the phone horizontally towards the upper edge. The raised platform is also seen housing the rear LED flash unit of the smartphone. The G from Google’s logo is seen in a centre-aligned position on the back of the handset, keeping the brand name design at a bare minimum.

According to a recent report, the Pixel 7a is also expected to launch in an orange shade that closely resembles the Kinda Coral colour option that the Pixel 6 smartphone launched in. The leak today, however, did not show this shade.

Expected to succeed the Pixel 6a, the Pixel 7a is likely to be powered by the in-house Tensor G2 SoC, paired with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 inbuilt storage. The phone is also tipped to sport a 6.1-inch full-HD+ OLED display with a refresh rate of 90Hz.

The dual rear camera unit of the upcoming Google Pixel handset is likely to feature a 64-megapixel primary sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS) support and a 12-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide lens, alongside a 10.8-megapixel front camera sensor.

The phone has also been reported to pack a 4,400mAh battery unit with 20W wired charging support that is claimed to offer up to 72 hours of backup. It is also expected to support wireless charging. The Pixel 7a smartphone could launch at the Google I/O event on May 10 and be priced between $450 and $500 (roughly Rs. 32,000 to Rs. 40,000).

Google Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8 Series, Pixel 8a, More; Product Roadmap for Next 3 Years Leaked

Google saw multiple new product announcements this year, including the launch of latest Pixel 7 series, Pixel 6a, Pixel Watch, and Pixel Buds Pro. The Pixel Fold, the first foldable smartphone from Google is expected to be a significant offering from the tech giant in the coming year. Apart from the flagship smartphone, Google is reportedly gearing up to unveil a handful of products including Pixel 7a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8a in the coming year. The lineup for 2024 is said to include three Pixel 9 series smartphones. The possible roadmap of Google in 2025 is likely to conclude a new clamshell smartphone with a design similar to Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.

A report by Android Authority, quoting anonymous sources, has leaked the possible roadmap for several Google products in 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Google Pixel phones planned for 2023 (leaked)

As per the report, the brand is gearing up to unveil two Pixel smartphones codenamed “lynx” and “felix” during the Google I/O event in April or May 2023. The codename “lynx” refers to the Pixel 7a and “felix” is associated with the Pixel Fold. The Pixel 7a is said to come with a price tag of $449 (roughly Rs. 37,000), the same as that of the Pixel 6a. The foldable smartphone, on the other hand, is likely to be priced at $1,799 (roughly Rs. 1,49,000), to compete with the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series.

Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro codenamed “shiba” and “husky” are expected to go official in H2 2023. Specifications-wise, the Pixel 8 series could be quite similar to the Pixel 7 series. However, the vanilla Pixel 8 will reportedly feature a smaller display and overall smaller form factor. The Pixel 8 Pro is said to have the same display and general measurements as the Pixel 7 Pro. The next-generation flagship smartphones from Google could be powered by a new SoC codenamed “zuma”. Google is expected to market the new SoC as Tensor G3.

The report further suggests that Google is planning to unveil Pixel 8a, codenamed “akita”, as a possible successor of Pixel 7a in the coming year. However, the launch of the smartphone could be decided based up on the commercial success of the Pixel 7a. The Pixel 8a is said to compete with the likes of Apple’s iPhone SE models and is expected to have a price tag of $499 (roughly Rs. 41,000).

Google Pixel lineup for 2024 (leaked)

Google will reportedly release three smartphones under the Pixel 9 series in the fall of 2024. The regular Pixel 9 would feature the same design and size as the Pixel 8, while the Pixel 9 Pro codenamed “komodo” will have a 6.7-inch display. The third model in the Pixel 9 lineup could be a toned-down version of the Pixel 9 Pro, with a 6.3-inch display. This seems to be in line with Apple’s sizing strategy on the latest iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Tensor G4, codenamed “redondo” is likely to power the 2024 Pixel series smartphones.

Furthermore, the report adds that Google is eyeing to unveil a follow-up foldable in 2024. The tech giant is expected to formulate follow-up plans for the foldable segment after carefully weighing the consumer response to its first foldable — “felix”.

Pixel lineup for 2025 (leaked)

It is reportedly considering a Galaxy Z Flip-style clamshell foldable for 2025. If Google scraps plans for a Flip-like device, it would introduce four non-folding smartphones. Like Apple’s iPhone 14 series, the vanilla model and pro model could be offered in larger and smaller sizes. The launching of Pixel Fold successors in 2025 likely depends on how the original Pixel Fold hits the market in 2023.
