Cyberpunk 2077 Jumps to 85,000+ Active Players on Steam, Highest Since Initial Launch Period

Cyberpunk 2077 has hit its highest concurrent player count on Steam, since January 2021. As per the unaffiliated database SteamDB, CD Projekt Red’s latest made a comeback with 85,000+ active users on the platform, as of Monday. At launch — December 2020 — the game had over a million concurrent players, which soon fell off, thanks to numerous complaints regarding glitches and optimisation issues. The sudden surge in popularity could be attributed to the critical reception the new Netflix anime Cyberpunk Edgerunners received.

In collaboration with Studio Trigger, CD Projekt Red recently expanded upon its Cyberpunk 2077 universe, with the new anime, Cyberpunk Edgerunners. The 10-episode series was released on September 13, causing a positive turnout in the player count. This would be the second time the Polish developers have been able to increase game sales by capitalising on Netflix adaptations — much later since launch.

Previously, the studio saw similar results with The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, as the Henry Cavill-led live-action series dropped on Netflix, inspiring many players to jump back into the fantasy realm.

Cyberpunk 2077 has clearly seen a resurgence this year, with the developers spending the past 20 months, working on patches to fix game-breaking issues across PC and consoles. The game saw a disastrous launch on the PS4, involving atrociously low framerates and crashes, to the point where Sony had to delist the game from its online stores. It was eventually brought back in June 2021, but with a warning stating that the game was best experienced on the PS4 Pro and PS5. Since then, the title has seen several improvements, in addition to fresh content.

Cyberpunk 2077 PS4 Review: Blurry, Buggy, Broken

Earlier this month, in celebration of the anime launch, CD Projekt Red unveiled some in-game swag, including a shotgun from the anime and a Legendary jacket. Titled Patch 1.6, the update added three new gigs — Concrete Cage Trap, Desperate Measures, and Nasty Hangover. Cross-progression was also enabled across all platforms, letting you launch PC save files on consoles (or vice versa), and pick up from where you left off.

The Night City Wire broadcast also saw the reveal of Cyberpunk 2077’s first major DLC, Phantom Liberty. The expansion brings back Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand, and sets your character, V, on a path to form an allegiance to the “New United States of America.” The teaser hinted at the rise of oppressive ruling in Night City, lots of dead government officials, combat using an electric whip, and a new mystery character. Further information on the same will be available closer to its launch in 2023. The expansion will be out on PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PS5.

Resident Evil Village DLC: Winters’ Expansion With Third-Person Mode Launches October 28

Resident Evil Village DLC, Winters’ Expansion releases on October 28. Capcom dropped a trailer for the expansion, at the Tokyo Game Show, held Thursday, revealing the major additions coming to its newest survival-horror title. The DLC brings a third-person mode to Resident Evil Village, alongside a “Shadows of Rose“ story campaign and new characters and stages in the Mercenaries mode. Those who don’t own the main game can purchase the Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, a bundle comprising all the content, launching October 28, across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, and PC.

Resident Evil Village Winters’ Expansion – Third-person mode

The DLC’s first major feature is the highly-requested third-person mode, which as the name implies, shifts the camera to an over-the-shoulder perspective. Fans will be able to recognise this camera angle from the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes, which brings some added shakiness during tense chase sequences. Ethan Winters can now be seen in action with new animations that weren’t present at launch. This includes the newly added kick and guard actions, which were added to the newer, first-person RE games. “–experience a new sense of fear from this fresh perspective,” says the video voiceover.

Resident Evil Village: Winters’ Expansion – Shadows of Rose

The Winters’ Expansion DLC brings a fully-playable Shadows of Rose side-story to the mix. Presented in a third-person perspective, the campaign follows Rosemary Winters — Ethan’s daughter — 16 years after the events of Resident Evil Village. Exploring the warped and twisted realm of the fungal root, Megamycete, Rose must conquer her fears and fend off incoming zombie-like foes.

However, even a single attack from these enemies is fatal, throwing healing herbs and other buffs out of the window. One bite — in this case, suction — is enough to get you killed. To balance the combat, Rose is equipped with an icy elemental attack, that lets her freeze enemies, causing them to slow down and creating opportunities for headshots.

Resident Evil Village Winters’ Expansion – Mercenaries

The final piece of content is “The Mercenaries Additional Orders.” Players will step into the shoes of Resident Evil Village’s antagonists, and wreak havoc on armed werewolves. The new expansion lets you play as Lady Dimitrescu and Lord Heisenberg, who wield unique abilities in battle. In the Winters’ Expansion trailer, the tall vampire lady can be seen applying lipstick, while mutant Heisenberg smokes a big cigar — adding to their character.

Furthermore, Capcom confirmed that Resident Evil Village will soon be playable on macOS, provided the system is equipped with an M1 or M2 chip. A Nintendo Switch version is also launching on October 28, albeit it is a cloud version, letting players stream the game onto their handheld devices. Internet connection will be required throughout playtime.

Resident Evil Village Winters’ Expansion and its Gold Edition bundle launches on October 28, on the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, and PC. On PC (Steam), the expansion is available for pre-order at Rs. 1,199.

PlayStation Confirms State of Play Event for September 14 in India, Nintendo Direct Tonight

Sony has confirmed a brand-new State of Play presentation for tomorrow. The show will be about 20 minutes long, and promises updates for 10 games, across the PS5, PS4, and PS VR2. The event will be live across PlayStation’s official YouTube and Twitch channels on September 14 at 3:30am IST in India, and September 13, 3:00pm PT in the US. Moreover, even Nintendo has plans to host a game showcase with their Nintendo Direct event.

The announcement comes ahead of Tokyo Game Show, which kicks off later in the week. Sony remains quite vague on the details, but notes that the presentation will feature some “ great updates from our amazing Japanese partners, along with a few other surprises from developers all around the world.” PlayStation’s close partners in crime include Capcom, which confirmed back in June, that Resident Evil Village is headed to PS VR2. The next-gen virtual reality headset is launching sometime in early 2023, so this would be an ideal time for Sony to showcase its potential. Some gameplay footage for the Resident Evil 4 remake should also be expected — set for a March 2023 release.

Much earlier than that, we have the Nintendo Direct event — a 40-minute-long presentation, focusing on games launching in the winter. The show will be live streamed on Nintendo’s official YouTube channel on September 13 at 7:30pm IST in India. For US audiences, this translates to September 13 at 7:00 am PT. As usual, the Japanese publisher has not teased what reveals they have in store for us, causing fans around the world to speculate that the “Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” — working title — will be shown.

Nintendo also confirmed that the event won’t be broadcast live on its UK YouTube channel, out of respect for the national mourning period, following Queen Elizabeth II’s demise. “As a mark of respect during this period of national mourning, we will not live stream tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct,” said Nintendo UK. Instead, the publisher will make a video-on-demand presentation available later on the channel at 4:00pm UK time.

In other news, Nintendo’s latest, Splatoon 3 has smashed video game launch records in Japan. The third iteration in the paint shooting franchise reached 3.45 million unit sales in the country, nearly doubling the sales of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The game launched on September 9, and marks the highest domestic sales level for any Nintendo Switch software — within the first three days.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Trailer Revealed at Ubisoft Forward, Launching 2023

Assassin’s Creed Mirage trailer is here. At the Ubisoft Forward event on Saturday — early Sunday in India — the publisher unveiled the first trailer for the latest entry in the franchise, set in Baghdad. Previous reports suggested that the title was codenamed “Rift,” and was originally meant as an expansion to 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The Assassin’s Creed Mirage reveal trailer comes just a week after Ubisoft unveiled a teaser photo for the game, confirming its existence. Assassin’s Creed Mirage launches sometime in 2023 on all major platforms.

Ubisoft released a cinematic trailer for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, featuring our lead character Basim Ibn Ish’aq, getting indoctrinated into the assassin clan. Conducting the ceremony is master Roshan, who is graced by the raspy voice of Emmy-winning actress Shohreh Aghdashloo, best known for The Expanse, and HBO’s House of Saddam. With this entry, Ubisoft is going back to the roots of the series, featuring a tight-bound narrative experience, focused on stealth, parkour, and assassinations — as previously reported. Set 20 years before the events of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Mirage follows a younger Basim, as he turns his life around from pickpocketing locals in Baghdad to become a skilled assassin.

“Are you ready to leave your life behind and walk the path of shadows?” asks Roshan, as we cut to footage of a young Basim getting chased by townsfolk over a matter of robbery. Despite being quite adept at parkour, he gets cornered at one point, only to get saved by a mysterious hooded assassin — the aforementioned Roshan. Basim is on a path to correct his errors and join a new family to hone his skills and eliminate targets that threaten to overthrow Baghdad’s peacefulness. The Assassin’s Creed Mirage trailer also features some brief combat footage, relying on both curved daggers and hidden blades.

The Assassin’s Creed Mirage trailer then displays some action sequences, as a now-refined Basim targets a group of officials. Red smoke bombs are part of his inventory now, alongside the drone bird ability that lets you survey surroundings. The end of the trailer also features a monster, akin to the Draugrs from God of War (2018), indicating that Ubisoft is still incorporating mythic beasts in their Assassin’s Creed games.

As per Ubisoft, pre-orders for Assassin’s Creed Mirage are now up, offering an exclusive “The Forty Thieves” side quest. Earlier this month, leaks revealed the cover image for the said DLC, which is clearly a reference to the Arabian folktale, “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.” The leaked image also featured a giant doorway, which could presumably be unlocked by uttering the “Open Sesame” password.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Confirmed by Ubisoft, Reveal Next Week

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is now official. Ubisoft has revealed a teaser photo for the upcoming entry to their Assassin’s Creed franchise. Previous leaks had reported that the new title was codenamed “Rift,” and that it was initially created as an expansion to 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Further details on Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be revealed during the Ubisoft Forward event, scheduled for September 11 at 12:30am IST in India / September 10 at 12pm PT in the US. The presentation will be broadcast across Ubisoft’s official Twitch and YouTube channels.

Unlike most recent entries to the franchise, the teaser image for Assassin’s Creed Mirage points towards a more classic interpretation of the character. Donned in the iconic white hood, with the hidden blade poking through his sleeve, our character seems to be dropping in for an assassination. This goes in line with previous reports, which claimed that Ubisoft is opting for a back-to-basics approach with the new game. The scope will be tighter, unlike the recent open-world RPG-esque elements they implemented to the franchise, to the point where it no longer feels like an Assassin’s Creed game.

The background for the image shows a Middle Eastern setting, which aligns with past reports that implied that the game will be set in Baghdad. As per Bloomberg, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a result of a planned expansion to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The DLC was modified into a standalone game in an effort to fill the gap in Ubisoft’s “thin” launch schedule for the fiscal year. Development is being led by Ubisoft’s Bordeaux studio, and is suggested to be running behind schedule.

A couple of days ago, a YouTuber with the user name J0nathan revealed some new information on Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The list confirmed the aforementioned details, in addition to some new developments. The video suggested that Mirage was eyeing a Spring 2023 release, and was set in Baghdad, between the years 870–860, during the Anarchy in Samarra. Other notes include the addition of a String Dagger weapon, and the return of Eagle Vision, which is a mechanic that enables heightened senses.

A now-deleted tweet from the Assassin’s Creed fan website, The Codex Network, also shared artwork for the upcoming Mirage. The image shows our hero dressed in the classic assassin’s robe, whilst wielding a sword. In the distance, there is a silhouette of a giant charging toward him. This could mean that Ubisoft has not fully abandoned the inclusion of mythic beasts in their Assassin’s Creed titles. Their 2018 entry, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey featured Greek figures such as Medusa, Cyclops, and Minotaur as side quests.

Another version of the Mirage art teases “The Forty Thieves Quest,” which is clearly a reference to the classic Arabian folktale, “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.” Since the image also features giant doors, one could assume it requires the “Open Sesame” password. If this leak is real, it could be part of a pre-order bonus, or some other kind of DLC.

In July, information on a separate Assassin’s Creed title, codenamed Project Red, surfaced online. Details are sparse, but according to people familiar with development and games reporter Jeff Grubb, the game is set in feudal Japan and follows the RPG format, as seen in modern Assassin’s Creed games. Project Red will be part of Assassin’s Creed Infinity, which is described as Ubisoft’s live-service platform for future entries.

While there is no word on Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s release, we can expect it to launch on all current-gen platforms — PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and Windows PC. Further updates on the game and the subsequent live-service platform are expected on September 11, at the Ubisoft Forward event.

eFootball 2023 Is Out Now, AC Milan and Inter Part of Licensed Clubs: All Details

eFootball 2023 is out now across all major platforms and mobile. On Thursday, Konami launched the latest edition/ content update for their annual football simulation franchise. This year, the free-to-play title brings AC Milan and Inter as officially licensed clubs, with the summer transfers reflected in their lineups. With this new update, fans will be expecting major improvements to the eFootball franchise, which currently holds ‘mostly negative’ reviews on Steam. eFootball 2023 has launched on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PC, and on Android and iOS for mobile devices.

Konami released an official launch trailer for eFootball 2023, featuring some of the cover stars and their respective player cards in-game. Key highlights include an ‘Epic’ 96-rated Wesley Sneijder, who used to play for Inter, and an 82-rated Clarence Seedorf from AC Milan. Both player cards have been added to the roster as part of Konami’s newly-renewed license with the clubs. The publisher has also added Liga BBVA MX, bringing all 18 Mexican clubs and the Estadio Azteca stadium to the game.

The eFootball 2023 trailer also features Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, though the latter has a 96-rated card for the English national team. Konami does not have a licensing deal with Liverpool FC. The studio is still on good terms with FC Barcelona, FC Bayern Munich, and Manchester United FC, which explains why Bruno Fernandes has a dedicated player card for the club. All officially licensed teams will come with logos, kits, player likenesses, and respective stadiums.

eFootball 2023 is available as a 39.75GB update download, with the older 2022 version and PES Lites nowhere to be seen on Steam. The title, formerly known as ‘Pro Evolution Soccer’, was rebranded to ‘eFootball’ a few years back. Last year, it dropped the PES moniker completely. eFootball 2022 was the first in the series to use Unreal Engine 4. This did not pan well for the company, as the free-to-play game was loaded with atrocious graphics quality, poor response time, and uneven ball physics. It also severely lacked in content, offering only nine playable teams and a one-time-only online tournament entry.

With eFootball 2023, Konami is introducing ‘Manager Pack’ — not to be confused with manager career — which is a set of training programs, designed to take your Dream Team to the “next level.” Footballing legends Johan Cruyff and Fabio Cannavaro will offer tactical advice to improve your gameplay in eFootball’s Ultimate Team component. Konami had previously promised a solid career mode in the upcoming update, though it still has not been included.

Apart from club teams, players can now set national teams as their basis for Dream Team. Additionally, Tour Events can now be AI-simulated as you take a backseat and farm event rewards.

eFootball 2023 is out now on Android, iOS, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X. Players will be required to create or sign in to their Konami account to play.

Call of Duty Warzone 2 Release Date Leaked, Modern Warfare 2 Pre-Order to Grant Early Campaign Access

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is granting early access to its campaign segment. Those who pre-order a digital edition of the game, get to play the single-player component up to a week early, regardless of the platform, starting October 20. Furthermore, a release date for the much-anticipated Warzone 2 has leaked, with Activision Blizzard allegedly looking at a November 16 launch. Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches on October 28 across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, and PC.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 campaign early access

Players who pre-order Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (remake) get to experience the globe-trotting operation early, as you take control of Task Force 141, a special forces unit commanded by Soap MacTavish. Players will partake in high-octane missions, set in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, as they hunt Vladimir Makarov, leader of the Russian Ultranationalist party.

This also marks the first time Activision has offered early access to the campaign, as previous instances only allowed for multiplayer access prior to launch. Offshore sieges with underwater combat and stealth missions have been completely rebuilt from the ground up, featuring improved graphics quality via photogrammetry technology. Pre-ordering Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 also grants access to exclusive weapon skins and early access to the multiplayer beta, coming this September.

PS4 and PS5 users gain early access to the multiplayer Modern Warfare 2 beta, running from September 16–17, which will be followed by the open beta phase, the next day, from September 18–20. Pre-orders on PC (Battle.net) and Xbox grant early access from September 22–23, with an open beta set for September 24–26. The second beta period also functions as a cross-play test, allowing PlayStation users to join in as well.

Pre-ordering the Rs. 6,699 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Vault Edition offers perks such as the Red Team 141, letting you play as the four main operators — Ghost, Farah, Price, and Soap — in multiplayer. A Season One Battle Pass is also included, allowing you to skip 50 tiers and claim all the rewards within, in addition to some exclusive cosmetics.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 release date leaked

An image circulating on the WoW subreddit reportedly reveals the launch dates for Warzone 2 and World of Warcraft: Dragonflight. The since-deleted image shows Activision Blizzard’s internal documentation, listing the “readiness levels” for their upcoming games. As per the leak, the Warzone sequel is looking at a November 16 launch, a few weeks after the global release of Modern Warfare 2 remake.

And while random leaks from Reddit should be taken with a grain of salt, the image details a September 26 release for World of Warcraft Classic’s Wrath of the Lich King expansion. Blizzard announced the news about a pre-patch launch late last night, confirming the same, but the image was circulating on Reddit hours before it was taken down. WOW Classic: Wrath of the Lich King pre-patch goes live on August 30, allowing players to test out the new additions.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta Dates Revealed, Starts September 18

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta is coming in September. Activision confirmed in a blog post that the beta launch will be divided into two weekends, with PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 users getting first access. The first open beta phase begins on September 18, exclusively on the PS4 and PS5, and will conclude on September 20. Meanwhile, other major platforms, PC and Xbox, alongside PlayStation, get their share on September 24, as means to assess cross-play functionality. Each playtest is scheduled to begin at 10:30pm (IST)/ 1:00pm (ET)

An exclusive event titled Call of Duty: Next kicks off the release campaign on September 15, showcasing live gameplay and new features on their official YouTube channel. The news comes following the Call of Duty League Championship, held on August 7, which granted several viewers free beta codes to prepare for launch. As with previous betas, the dates for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II beta are separated by platforms and pre-order status.

Similar to most AAA titles, players who pre-order Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 get early access. For PS4 and PS5 users, this would run from September 16–17, which will be followed by the previously stated open beta phase, the very next day, from September 18–20.

Pre-orders on PC (Battle.net) and Xbox grant early access from September 22–23. PlayStation users can get in the action as well, since this functions as a cross-play test. The open beta period, which is free to everyone, starts on September 24, giving complete access to CoD’s state-of-the-art multiplayer segment, and ends on September 26. So, if you pre-order the game on either platform, you get to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for five continuous days.

At the Call of Duty League tournament held over the weekend, developer Infinity Ward also teased a new multiplayer map called Grand Prix. As the name suggests, the map is set on a race track, teeming with fast cars, a Ferris wheel, and engulfing flames resulting from fuel leakage. The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II map is set at night time and will be playable in the upcoming beta period.

Outer Wilds Is Coming to PS5 and Xbox Series S/X in September

Outer Wilds is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. Developer Mobius Digital confirmed during the Annapurna Interactive Showcase on Thursday that the next-gen versions of the game would run at a solid 60fps. Those who own the title on PS4 or Xbox One will get a free upgrade once they shift to the new consoles. The update is slated to launch on September 15 and includes the ‘Echoes of the Eye’ DLC. A Nintendo Switch version for Outer Wilds is also in the works.

PS5 users who never owned the game before will have to purchase the next-gen version when it launches. Or you could head over to the PlayStation Store and buy the cheaper PS4 version and wait until Outer Wilds drops in September. The publisher is currently running a promotional Summer Sale, which would allow you to buy the game at Rs. 834 (a 34 percent discount).

Xbox players, on the other hand, can take advantage of their Game Pass subscription to add Outer Wilds to the library. When the next-gen version launches, the update should automatically download, giving you access to the full 60fps experience. Xbox Game Pass is now available at an introductory offer of Rs. 50, after which players will be expected to pay Rs.499 per month.

A Nintendo Switch version of Outer Wilds was announced during last year’s Annapurna showcase, but it still has not come to fruition. The studio made an appearance this time to assure that the version is still in the works, but there is no firm release window.

Developed by Mobius Digital, Outer Wilds features an odd premise. Players take control of an unnamed space explorer and travel to the far reaches of the galaxy, to find themselves stuck in a time loop. Every 22 minutes, the prime star of the solar system goes supernova, thereby resetting every planet and particle back to its original state. Players are encouraged to explore and uncover the secrets of an extinct tribe called Nomai, in an attempt to solve the mystery. And although the game sounds rogue-like, it leans more towards the adventure genre.

Outer Wilds is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series S/X, along with the Echoes of the Eye DLC, on September 15.

The Sims 4 Update Is Causing Rapid Ageing and Incestual Relationships

The Sims 4 introduced a free update this week, which is reportedly causing super-fast ageing and incestual relationships. The news comes from a PC Gamer report, which suggests that the latest patch was shipped with a bug, ahead of the High School Years expansion launch. The download was intended to bring back notable features from Sims 3, including curved walls, body hair, and new fears and wants. EA-owned developer Maxis has acknowledged the glitch and is working towards a solution.

Reports from The Sims 4 community website that the rapid ageing bug is only affecting those who use the “short” or “long” lifespan options for their Sims. Those checking the “normal” category seem to be unaffected by this glitch. One individual on Twitter claims that their entire Sims household ages within minutes. “Kids are teens and young adults are almost elders. None of their birthdays was coming up. What can I do to fix this?” reads the tweet.

Meanwhile, on Reddit, another player opened up about their experience with the new Sims 4 update. The attached screenshot reveals an older woman who suddenly wanted to start a relationship with her son. This bug came with the newly added Wants feature, which prompts Sims with certain goals or things they wish to do. The system was available in past Sims games and is now causing characters to chase after a family member. A post on the EA bug support thread reads, “The new Wants system has given my sim the ‘want’ to ask his twin sister to be his girlfriend.”

A Sims developer has acknowledged these reports on Twitter saying, “I just wanted to acknowledge that the Want to date a family member is something we know about, we’ve reproduced ourselves, we’re working on it.” The official Sims Twitter handle also addressed the situation by asking players to temporarily play with the “normal” lifespan option on, and creating new saves as they work towards a solution.

This new update comes with the High School Years expansion pack, which adds new decorations, experiences, in-person classes and teachers, and a lot more to Sims 4. The update also included the ability to pick a sexual orientation via a toggle. These parameters can be accessed right at the beginning, when the player creates their virtual character. You could cycle between genders, romantic attractions, and what gender you would like to explore casual sex with.

The Sims 4 High School Years expansion pack is now available across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and Xbox One.
