Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Is Bringing Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg, 21 Savage

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is bringing popular rappers into the game, in celebration of 50 years of Hip-Hop music. As part of its Season 5 update, coming August 2, Activision confirmed that Snoop Dogg and Nicki Minaj will be joining the game and its battle royale counterpart, Warzone 2.0, as playable operators. Other major additions include three new multiplayer maps and several ‘War Track’ packs composed of hip-hop music to listen to in-game. The studio also teased a third operator by only showing their silhouette, but Activision’s blog post reveals it’s 21 Savage. No pricing details have been confirmed at this time but like previous collaborations, they should be available to buy as separate bundles.

Minaj’s appearance in Call of Duty was, sort of, signalled in a promo video from last year, before Modern Warfare II dropped worldwide. As per the official blog post, the artist’s look is inspired by her latest alter ego ‘Red Ruby Da Sleeze,’ which coincidentally timed perfectly with the Barbie movie’s release, which led to an internet obsession with the colour pink and everything sassy. Even her assault rifle is bright pink coloured, details of which will be revealed later. Meanwhile, this marks the third in-game appearance for Snoop Dogg; he first appeared as a multiplayer announcer in Call of Duty: Ghosts and then went on to appear in Call of Duty: Vanguard and Mobile. Snoop Dogg’s rifle in the upcoming collaboration is a silenced, blue-tinted one, adorned with gold engravings that of course resemble a marijuana leaf.

Call of Duty is no stranger to weird collaborations, having recently teamed up with the Amazon Prime Video series The Boys to bring Homelander, Starlight, and Black Noir into the game — each with their own brutal finishers like laser eyes. Other fun crossovers include the Argentinian footballer Lionel Messi, outfits based on the Attack on Titan anime, and even adding Godzilla to the map as part of a limited-time mode in 2022. With more brand partnerships, we can only expect more outlandish operators to flood the streets, akin to how Fortnite’s been doing it for years now.

Season 5 also brings three new multiplayer maps — Livestock, an offshore Petrov Oil Rig, and Harbor flush with fish markets and shipping areas. Be prepared for some new game modes as well, starting with Havoc, which while fashioned like a classic arena shooter, injects a random selection of modifiers that’s aimed at making gameplay frenetic. Your operator’s jump heights could be affected to simulate if they were walking on the moon, landing from high altitudes might cause a grenade-like explosion around you, and more. There are some ‘big’ capture-the-flag modes coming your way, alongside Gunfight Variants, which pits you in close-quarters 2v2 and 4v4 matchups. Expect a battle pass as well, while Warzone 2.0 adds a dirt bike and an MRAP armoured vehicle to its catalogue.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s season 5 event goes live August 2 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Will Require Phone Number Verification Like Overwatch 2

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will require mobile number verification. A newly updated article on the Battle.net website claims that players are required to register with a phone number to play the game. The verification system, which Blizzard Entertainment likes to call SMS Protect, is aimed at cutting down on toxic behaviour from players and multiple free accounts. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II launches on October 28 across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.

A similar practice caused issues for Overwatch 2 players, last week, where players reported being locked out of their Battle.net accounts. More specifically, those on prepaid mobile plans. A separate support page on the Battle.net website notes details regarding phone number verification, which states: “Mobile phones with prepaid plans may not work with the phone notification service.” As reports started piling up, Blizzard eventually eased the restrictions for players who had been signed up to Battle.net for more than a year. New players, however, will be required to add their numbers.

“We remain committed to combating disruptive behaviour in Overwatch 2 — accounts that were not connected to Battle.net, as well as new accounts, will still have to meet SMS Protect requirements,” So now, the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 joins this verification practice, alongside any “newly created” Modern Warfare accounts. The page further states that notifications will only be text-message/ SMS based. Meaning, you can’t set it up for other two-factor authentication (2FA) apps like Authy, Google Authenticator, and their ilk. Furthermore, you can’t receive two-factor codes on VoIP services, be it iMessage or WhatsApp.

A PC Gamer report from last week noted that some Modern Warfare 2 beta players were getting locked out of their accounts, for having a prepaid mobile number. “This seems very wrong to require videogame players to enter into a contract with a telecom company before being allowed to play the game they paid for,” its source said. “Especially when prepaid phone plans like mine are becoming more and more common.”

Phone number authentication for games isn’t a new practice, as games like Rainbow Six Siege and Dota 2 have managed to implement it flawlessly. Even Counter-Strike: Global Offensive made this a common practice, requiring players to create a Prime account, in order to combat hackers and smurfs. For the uninitiated, smurfs are generally high-ranking players, who create multiple accounts, and disrupt low-tier matches for amusement. Think of it like a burner phone. Requesting a mobile number, however, restricts the account to one. Unless you’re carrying around multiple SIM cards — a common practice in India.

Neither of these multiplayer games has asked for a postpaid mobile number, which paints Blizzard’s requirements in a bad light. It’ll be interesting to see how this fares in a market like India, where 9 out of 10 people on average have a prepaid number. Furthermore, it is unclear if the practice applies to everyone on PC, given that Modern Warfare 2 is available on both Steam and Battle.net.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches October 28, across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. Digital pre-orders grant early access to the campaign segment, starting October 20.

Call of Duty Warzone 2 Release Date Leaked, Modern Warfare 2 Pre-Order to Grant Early Campaign Access

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is granting early access to its campaign segment. Those who pre-order a digital edition of the game, get to play the single-player component up to a week early, regardless of the platform, starting October 20. Furthermore, a release date for the much-anticipated Warzone 2 has leaked, with Activision Blizzard allegedly looking at a November 16 launch. Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches on October 28 across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, and PC.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 campaign early access

Players who pre-order Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (remake) get to experience the globe-trotting operation early, as you take control of Task Force 141, a special forces unit commanded by Soap MacTavish. Players will partake in high-octane missions, set in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, as they hunt Vladimir Makarov, leader of the Russian Ultranationalist party.

This also marks the first time Activision has offered early access to the campaign, as previous instances only allowed for multiplayer access prior to launch. Offshore sieges with underwater combat and stealth missions have been completely rebuilt from the ground up, featuring improved graphics quality via photogrammetry technology. Pre-ordering Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 also grants access to exclusive weapon skins and early access to the multiplayer beta, coming this September.

PS4 and PS5 users gain early access to the multiplayer Modern Warfare 2 beta, running from September 16–17, which will be followed by the open beta phase, the next day, from September 18–20. Pre-orders on PC (Battle.net) and Xbox grant early access from September 22–23, with an open beta set for September 24–26. The second beta period also functions as a cross-play test, allowing PlayStation users to join in as well.

Pre-ordering the Rs. 6,699 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Vault Edition offers perks such as the Red Team 141, letting you play as the four main operators — Ghost, Farah, Price, and Soap — in multiplayer. A Season One Battle Pass is also included, allowing you to skip 50 tiers and claim all the rewards within, in addition to some exclusive cosmetics.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 release date leaked

An image circulating on the WoW subreddit reportedly reveals the launch dates for Warzone 2 and World of Warcraft: Dragonflight. The since-deleted image shows Activision Blizzard’s internal documentation, listing the “readiness levels” for their upcoming games. As per the leak, the Warzone sequel is looking at a November 16 launch, a few weeks after the global release of Modern Warfare 2 remake.

And while random leaks from Reddit should be taken with a grain of salt, the image details a September 26 release for World of Warcraft Classic’s Wrath of the Lich King expansion. Blizzard announced the news about a pre-patch launch late last night, confirming the same, but the image was circulating on Reddit hours before it was taken down. WOW Classic: Wrath of the Lich King pre-patch goes live on August 30, allowing players to test out the new additions.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches on October 28 across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, and Windows PC via Steam and Battle.net. Further details on the same will be revealed on the Call of Duty: Next digital event, set for September 15.
