PS Plus Monthly Free Games for May Include EA Sports FC 24, Ghostrunner 2, Tunic and Destiny 2: Lightfall

Sony has announced the lineup of free games coming to PlayStation Plus in May. This month’s PS Plus offerings include four titles, led by popular football sim EA Sports FC 24. Other free games for May include action-platformer Ghostrunner 2, isometric action-adventure title Tunic and online shooter Destiny 2: Lightfall. All four titles will be available to PS Plus members across Essential, Extra and Deluxe/Premium tiers from May 7.

The PS Plus lineup for May was revealed on the PlayStation Blog Wednesday. All PS Plus members can add the four games to their library and access them at no additional cost as long as they have an active subscription. Ghostrunner 2, Tunic and Destiny 2: Lightfall can be added to the game library till June 3, but EA Sports FC 24 will be available on the service for an extended period till June 17.

Bear in mind that the free PS Plus games for April will be available till May 6, after which they will depart the service. April’s slate of PS Plus titles, announced in late March, includes first-person spell shooter Immortals of Aveum, spinoff strategy title Minecraft Legends and roguelike-action platformer Skul: The Hero Slayer. Here’s a look at the four free PS Plus titles for May:

EA Sports FC 24

This month’s PS Plus lineup will please FIFA fans as EA Sports FC 24 makes its way to the service. EA’s latest football sim, which launched last year in September, represents a new beginning for the popular franchise. The series shed its FIFA branding after failing to come to licensing agreement with football’s eponymous governing body. But FC 24 remains a familiar offering, bringing its arcade-style football gameplay across multiple single-player and online modes.

While there are no big changes in FC 24 (review), its Ultimate Team and Career modes are likely to keep players engaged until FC 25 arrives later this year. EA Sports FC 24 will be available to players on both PS4 and PS5.

Ghostrunner 2

Developed by One More Level, Ghostrunner 2 is a challenging action-platformer that features first-person parkour and sword combat. Sequel to Ghostrunner from 2020, the game puts players in the shoes of Jack, who can sprint, dash, wallrun and slide his way across challenging platforming sections and take on foes with his katana.

The game also provides additional tools like a grappling hook for traversal and shurikens for ranged attacks. Ghostrunner 2 arrives on PS Plus for PS5 users.

Tunic

An acclaimed indie action-adventure title that evokes classic Zelda games, Tunic lets players control a fox on an adventure through the ruins of a fantastical world. Much of the story unfolds through gameplay and environments as players find new pathways and instruction manual-style texts littered through the world.

Tunic encourages exploration and presents players plenty of puzzles and challenges in a cute visual style reminiscent of classic Nintendo titles. The game will be available on PS4 and PS5.

Destiny 2: Lightfall

After including Destiny 2: The Witch Queen in March’s PS Plus lineup, Sony now adds yet another major Destiny 2 expansion, Lightfall, to the service. The seventh expansion to Destiny 2, Lightfall was released in February 2023, adding a new story, gameplay elements, a new Strand sub-class and a new free-roam world to the base game. The expansion requires the base game to play and will be available on both PS4 and PS5.

This month, PS Plus members will also get the PlayStation Plus Football Ultimate Team Starter Pack to aid new FC 24 players on their FUT journey. Last month, Sony also revealed the slate of games coming to the PS Plus Game Catalog, available to PS Plus Extra and Deluxe/Premium tier subscribers. April’s lineup includes Dave the Diver, Animal Well, Tales of Kenzera: Zau and more.

Fallout Games Surge as Prime Video TV Series Helps Drive Close to 5 Million Players in a Single Day

Fallout games have seen renewed interest since the release of the Fallout TV series on Amazon Prime Video earlier this month. Just as the show has received acclaim and attracted new viewers to the world of Fallout, new and returning players have been flocking to the role-playing games from Bethesda. Now, the studio has confirmed that Fallout titles have received almost five million players in a single day, including one million in Fallout 76 alone.

The official Fallout X account posted the milestone early Wednesday, thanking one million players who tried out Fallout 76 in a single day. “Thank you to the over one million of you who adventured with us in #Fallout76 in a single day…,” the post read. Additionally, close to five million players have been registered across all Fallout games in a single day, Bethesda said in a follow-up post.

Fallout 76 also broke its all-time peak concurrent player count on Steam recently. With the success of the Fallout TV series, players have flocked to the game to experience its post-apocalyptic wasteland first-hand. Fallout 76 is currently the 23rd most played game on Steam, with 31,547 active players at the time of writing, according to SteamDB. The game has gone past its previous all-time peak this week, registering a new peak of 73,368 concurrent players.

Fallout 4 is faring even better. The 2015 RPG is currently the ninth most played game on Valve’s service, beating popular titles like Grand Theft Auto 5, Destiny 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3. At the time of writing, Fallout 4 has 62,738 active players, with a 24-hour peak concurrent player count of 120,870.

These numbers only reflect Fallout players on PC, with PlayStation and Xbox platforms also likely experiencing a surge in player numbers. PS5 and Xbox Series S/X consoles are set to receive more Fallout 4 players soon, too. Earlier this month, Bethesda announced that Fallout 4 would get a free next-gen update on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X on April 25.

Starting tomorrow, players on those consoles will get native game applications, with new features like Performance mode and Quality mode settings, stability improvements and bug fixes. The next-gen update for Fallout 4 will support higher resolutions and up to 60fps performance. Some new Fallout 4 features and improvements are also arriving on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Last week, Fallout 4 also became Europe’s best-selling game following the launch of the TV series. According to a report from GamesIndustry.biz, sales of the RPG jumped 7,500 percent week-on-week across the continent.

It’s worth noting that both Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 are available to play for free to PS Plus subscribers on PlayStation and the entire Fallout series is available at no additional cost to Game Pass members on Xbox and PC.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Announced With Visceral Reveal Trailer, Will Arrive Later This Year

Kingdom Come: Deliverance, 2018’s meticulous medieval action-RPG, is finally getting a sequel. Publisher Plaion has announced Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, set for release in 2024 across PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. Developed by Warhorse Studios, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 promises to be a “true sequel” to the first game, bringing visceral first-person melee combat and a deep RPG experience.

The game was announced with a 14-minute-long reveal video late Thursday, with developers Warhorse diving into gameplay details and features. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 also received an announcement trailer that showcased the story, combat and detailed visuals.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set in a war-torn 15th century central Europe and continues the story of Henry of Skalitz from the first game. Henry, son of a blacksmith and a simple peasant, was thrust into a saga of revenge during the events of the first game, where he learned and rose through the ranks to become an able warrior.

In the sequel, players will get to continue Henry’s journey amidst a raging civil war, meet new characters and take on new adventures. “In this gripping sequel, players will traverse a meticulously crafted medieval landscape, from the humble confines of a blacksmith’s forge to the grandeur of royal courts, all while navigating the treacherous currents of a kingdom torn apart by civil war,” a press release from Plaion said.

The trailer showed off improved and polished visuals over the first game and highlighted realistic first-person sword combat. Plaion said that the sequel features two new maps, double the size of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, featuring detailed real-world locations. Aside from a focus on role-playing mechanics and combat, the game also promises to offer a detailed story, just like its predecessor.

The combat has been revamped as well, with Plaion opting for more accessibility. Aside from melee and ranged weapons like swords and bows, the sequel adds crossbows and early gunpowder weapons to the mix. The first game’s immersive RPG elements are being brought back, as well. Players can take various routes to completing a quest and their choices impact the story and characters.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 arrives six years after the first game was released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One in 2018. The game was recently ported to Nintendo Switch, as well. With its flexible and detailed RPG experience, an affable protagonist and an engaging story, Kingdom Come: Deliverance found a niche audience of players. The sequel promises more of the same in an updated package for current-gen consoles and PC.

There’s no concrete release date yet, but Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set to arrive sometime later this year. There are no details about pricing and editions yet, but the game is currently available to wishlist on Steam.

Sony has revealed the slate of games joining the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog in April. In the coming weeks, PS Plus Extra and Deluxe/Premium tier members will get access to deep-sea exploration RPG Dave the Diver, Metroidvania action title Tales of Kenzera: Zau, indie platformer Animal Well, open-world racing title Crew 2, action platformer Raji: An Ancient Epic and more. Most of these games will be available on the PS Plus catalogue on April 16. Tales of Kenzera: Zau and Animal Well, on the other hand, will join the service as day-one launch titles on April 23 and May 9, respectively.

April’s lineup of PS Plus Game Catalog titles was confirmed on the PlayStation Blog Wednesday. Both Dave the Diver and Tales of Kenzera: Zau were revealed as Game Catalog titles for April earlier this month.

Developed by Mintrocket, Dave the Diver made quite a splash when it was released last year on PC. A Nintendo Switch port followed, and the game will finally arrive on PlayStation consoles on April 16 as part of the PS Plus catalogue. Dave the Diver features a colourful pixel art style and puts players into the swimfins of Dave, the eponymous diver who explores the sea during the daytime to catch exotic fish and then helps run a sushi joint in the night with the day’s catch. As Dave, players dive into the depths of the Blue Hole with a harpoon gun in hand, fighting off dangers, finding treasures and exploring the sea. At nighttime, players must help run a bustling sushi restaurant, providing unique dishes and exceptional service to their customers. Dave the Diver will be available on both PS4 and PS5.

This month’s lineup of Game Catalog titles is full of smaller, indie games. Animal Well, a cute but dark pixel-art style Metroidvania platformer developed by a one-person team of Billy Basso, arrives as a day-one launch title on May 9. In it, players take control of a shapeless blob, explore intricate levels and encounter a number of animal spirits. Aside from platforming, the game includes a fair number of puzzles. Animal Well will be available to PS Plus Extra and Deluxe/Premium tier subscribers on PS5.

Tales of Kenzera: Zau is another Metroidvania platformer that arrives as a day-one launch title on April 23. First announced earlier this month for PS Plus Game Catalog, Tales of Kenzera: Zau is a narrative-focussed 2.5D action platformer where players take control of the titular Zau, a young warrior seeking the God of Death. Its gameplay and visuals echo Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown from earlier this year, with fast-paced action combat and intricate platforming. Tales of Kenzera: Zau will be available on PS5.

Continuing the trend of indie action platformers, Raji: An Ancient Epic, developed by Indian studio Nodding Heads Games, also joins the PS Plus catalogue this month. The game is inspired by Indian mythology and lets players take on mythical beasts and demons as the eponymous protagonist Raji searches for her little brother. Raji features plenty of puzzles and sports a distinct art style and will be available on both PS4 and PS5.

Aside from Animal Well and Tales of Kenzera: Zau, all new PS Plus Game Catalog titles will be playable starting April 16. Do note that Game Catalog titles cannot be added to your game library and are only accessible till the time they are available on the service.

PS Plus Monthly Free Games for April Include Immortals of Aveum, Minecraft Legends and Skul: The Hero Slayer

Sony has announced the slate of free games arriving on PlayStation Plus in April. The PS Plus monthly games for next month include first-person spell shooter Immortals of Aveum, spinoff strategy title Minecraft Legends and roguelike-action platformer Skul: The Hero Slayer. All three games will be accessible to PS Plus subscribers across Essential, Extra and Deluxe/Premium tiers starting April 2. Sony had also confirmed the games coming to the PS Plus Game Catalog earlier this month, with NBA 2K24, Marvel’s Midnight Suns and Resident Evil 3 leading the lineup.

The PS Plus offerings for April were announced on the PlayStation Blog Wednesday. All three games can be played at no additional cost. PS Plus members can add the free games to their library and access them as long as they have an active subscription. Bear in mind, April’s free games will be available till May 6.

PS Plus monthly games from March will be available to add to PlayStation Plus members’ game library until April 1, following which they will leave the service. The March free games lineup includes racing simulator EA Sports F1 23, kung fu beat ‘em up Sifu, online shooter Destiny 2: The Witch Queen and survival horror title Hello Neighbor 2. Here’s a look at the PS Plus offerings for April:

Immortals of Aveum

EA’s first-person spell shooter Immortals of Aveum lets players don magical gauntlets and shoot colourful spells at monsters and mages, Call of Duty-style. The action-adventure shooter from Ascendant Studios drops players into Aveum, a magical land ridden with long-running conflict. You play as Jak, a rookie soldier in the Everwar who discovers his magical powers and joins an elite order of battlemages to repel the dark forces.

First-person shooter fans would feel right at home in Immortals of Aveum (review). While there are no guns here, the spell shooting combat works pretty much the same way. Players have an array of offensive and defensive spells at their disposal and the game features a semi-open hub world that can be explored for gear, challenges, side quests and boss battles. The game will be available on PS5.

Minecraft Legends

The real-time strategy game from last year is a spinoff of the original game from Mojang. Minecraft Legends features many of the same features like base building and resource harvesting from Minecraft. The game tasks players with defending the world from a Piglin invasion by setting up defenses, buildings and troops.

Once players gather resources and become battle-ready, they can take on Piglin outposts and repel Piglin raids on friendly villages. The game features a single-player campaign, where players go up against Piglin hordes and bosses. Minecraft Legends also includes co-op and competitive multiplayer PvP mode, where players can take on other players online. The game is available on both PS4 and PS5.

Skul: The Hero Slayer

The PS Plus April lineup also includes Skul: The Hero Slayer, a roguelike-action platformer developed by SouthPAW Games that puts players in the shoes of Skul, a skeleton soldier in the Demon King’s army. As Skul, you go through winding levels and fight heroes to save demonkind.

As with roguelike games, Skul: The Hero Slayer features procedurally generated levels and many boss fights. Players can attack, dodge and teleport in combat and find new gear and abilities to get stronger. The protagonist’s skull can also be replaced with different skulls that bring unique abilities. The action platformer is available on both PS4 and PS5.

This month, Sony is also offering the Overwatch 2 Mega Bundle, which includes cosmetics and Battle Pass bonuses, to PS Plus members. Earlier this month, PlayStation also revealed the list of games coming to its Game Catalog, available to PS Plus Extra and Deluxe/Premium tier subscribers. March’s titles include NBA 2K24, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Resident Evil 3, Lego DC Supervillains, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot and more.

Cyberpunk 2077 to Be Available for Free as Part of Limited Trial on Current-Gen Consoles This Weekend

Cyberpunk 2077 will be available to play at no cost as part of a limited trial over the coming weekend, according to developer CD Projekt Red. The popular game will be free to play for a few hours on current generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony, but not for PC gamers. You will have access to the base Cyberpunk 2077 game — which will need to be downloaded in its entirety in order to access the trial. The Phantom Liberty expansion won’t be part of the trial this weekend.

According to details on the Cyberpunk 2077 website, the free trial will begin on March 28 at 4pm CET (8pm IST) and end on April 1 at 8:59AM CEST (12:29pm IST). You will be able to play the game on current-gen consoles — PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S — for five hours, during the trial period. CDPR says trial doesn’t include PC gamers due to “technical reasons”.

During the trial period, you can only play Cyberpunk within the five-hour period, after which you can purchase the game to continue playing. According to the developer, your save progress will carry forward to the full game, if you choose to buy Cyberpunk 2077 after the trial ends.

Five hours of gameplay is considerably short for a free trial, especially considering that the game will include several cutscenes with dialogues will take up a considerable amount of time of the limited time trial. If you already own the base game, you won’t be able to try the Phantom Liberty expansion as it isn’t part of the trial.

In order to try Cyberpunk 2077 as part of the upcoming trial, you’ll need to download the entire game — that’s a 99.3GB download on the PlayStation 5 and around 103GB on Microsoft’s current-gen consoles. You won’t need a subscription (like Game Pass) in order to play the title during the trial, and more than one player can try the game on one console, as long as they have a separate user account.

Starting March 19, PS Plus Extra and Deluxe/Premium tier subscribers will get access to popular basketball sim NBA 2K24, tactical RPG Marvel’s Midnight Suns, survival horror title Resident Evil 3, and more. March Game Catalog offerings follow the month’s lineup of free games — available to all PS Plus members — that Sony announced in late February.

A PlayStation Blog post on Wednesday confirmed the pack of games joining the PS Plus Game Catalog this month. The newest NBA 2K title leads the lineup, offering basketball fans an authentic NBA experience. NBA 2K24 Kobe Bryant Edition features the late and great eponymous basketball star on its cover. Marvel’s Midnight Suns also arrives on both PS4 and PS5 this month. The tactical RPG from Firaxis Games lets players create a custom superhero, The Hunter, and lead a host of Marvel heroes in turn-based battles that also employ deck-building mechanics. The base game includes 13 popular superheroes, including Spider-Man, Wolverine, Venom, Scarlet Witch, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, and more.

PS Plus Game Catalog is expanding its Resident Evil offerings, too, bringing 2020’s Resident Evil 3 to the service this month. A remake of 1999’s Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, the survival horror title from Capcom puts players in the shoes of former agent Jill Valentine and mercenary Carlos Oliveira stuck in a zombie-infested Racoon City. The third-person shooter also features plenty of puzzles. Resident Evil 3 will be available on PS4 and PS5.

In addition to the Marvel heroes from Midnight Suns, PS Plus is also adding DC villains to the mix with Lego DC Supervillains, available on PS4. The action-adventure platformer is a spinoff from the Lego Batman series and allows players to create a custom supervillain from scratch. The Justice League has vanished and it’s up to the supervillains to save the day for a change. Players can team up with iconic DC villains like The Joker and Harley Quinn and take on the threat of a different set of supervillains from another universe.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Gets New Game Plus, More Suits and a Developer Menu Bug That Hints at DLC in New Update

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has received the version 1.002.000 update, finally bringing the much-requested New Game+ mode, new suits for the two heroes, and a host of new quality-of-life features. The latest patch also adds the ability to replay missions, change the in-game time of day, and some handy accessibility options. The Spider-Man 2 update, however, has also brought an unintended bug. Developer Insomniac Games confirmed that the patch could grant players access to a development game menu, which could end up impacting save files and trophy progress.

Insomniac detailed the new features in the version 1.002.000 release notes on Thursday, confirming that the update was live for PS5 users. The highlight, of course, is the New Game+ mode, which allows players who have completed the game to dive right back into the story with all their skill and gear upgrades intact.

NG+ on Spider-Man 2 will come with Ultimate Levels, allowing players to go beyond the base game level cap in the mode. New Game+ will also unlock new symbiote suit styles with Ultimate Level progression in the story, new golden looks for gadgets, a shared Suit Tech slot for the two Spider-Men, and for the trophy hunters out there — a new PlayStation trophy for completing the game in NG+ mode.

Players can also now replay specific mission from the story and change the time of day in the game. This can be done by heading to ‘Time of Day’ in the Gameplay section of the Settings menu. Additionally, players can also swap out symbiote tendril colours to their liking.

The update also brings new Spider-Man suits, including two new suits inspired by the Hellfire Gala designs for both Peter and Miles. The two heroes will also get two new suits as part of the Fly N’ Fresh suit pack — these will be paid suits, available for $4.99, with the proceeds going towards Gameheads, a games industry training program for low-income youth in the US.

Other new features include photo mode tweaks, audio descriptions for in-game cinematics, screen reader for text on menu, tutorials, and control hints, and more. You can refer to the full list of features in Insomniac’s release notes.

Insomniac Games also confirmed in a post on X Thursday that the update could let some players access a developer menu, which could lead to save file and trophy progress corruption. “We’re aware the latest game update may have inadvertently allowed access to a development game menu. There’s a hotfix on the way,” the studio said.

Some players, however, seem to have dived into the developer options and reportedly found references to missions that aren’t present in the game, which could hint at an upcoming DLC. While Insomniac has not yet confirmed a story-based expansion for the game, Spider-Man 2 features a few open-ended story threads that could be explored later in a DLC. 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man also received a story expansion, The City That Never Sleeps.

Players can now download the latest 1.002.000 update on PS5. Insomniac has noted that there’s a second update that immediately follows the first one and players would need to download both to access all the new features.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut Announced for PC, Will Launch on May 16

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, the open-world action-adventure game from Sucker Punch, is coming to PC, continuing the trend of first-party PlayStation titles releasing on Windows. The game will launch with the expected suite of PC features on May 16. The port, predictably, is helmed by veterans Nixxes Software, the Sony-owned studio that has previously worked on PC ports for first-party PlayStation titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

Nixxes made the announcement on the PlayStation Blog Wednesday, adding the studio had been working on the port for the past year. The Director’s Cut version of the game will include the full game, the Iki Island expansion, and the cooperative online multiplayer Legends mode.

The PC version of Ghost of Tsushima will get platform-specific features like unlocked frame rates, a full range of graphical settings and presets, and customisable mouse and keyboard controls. Nixxes also confirmed ultrawide monitor support, with the game fully optimized for 21:9 and 32:9 resolutions, and an overkill 48:9 resolution for triple monitor setups.

Additionally, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut will be aided by performance boosting technologies like Nvidia DLSS 3, AMD FSR 3, and Intel XeSS with AI upscaling and frame generation options. Those with high-end hardware can also opt to use Nvidia DLAA or FSR 3 Native AA to improve image quality even further.

The PC port of the game promises extensive controller support, as well, but a PlayStation DualSense controller will bring more immersion with haptic feedback and adaptive trigger features.

Ghost of Tsushima was released in 2020 as a PlayStation exclusive on the PS4. A Director’s Cut version of the game, which includes the Iki island story expansion, came out in 2021 for PS5 and PS4. The game, set during the first Mongol invasion of Japan, puts players in the shoes of Jin Sakai, a samurai on the path of revenge.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is currently up for pre-order on Steam and Epic Games Store, priced at Rs. 3,999. Pre-ordering will unlock in-game items like the New Game+ Horse, Traveler’s Attire, and Broken Armor dyes from Baku’s shop when the game launches on May 16.

Nixxes is also set release the PC port of PlayStation exclusive Horizon Forbidden West, with the Complete Edition of the game set to release on March 21. The studio revealed the detailed list of PC system requirements for the game this week, confirming that the graphically demanding title would need at least 16GB of RAM to be played on PC.
