Resident Evil 4 Remake Now Available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPad and Mac at a 50 Percent Discount

Resident Evil 4, the acclaimed 2023 remake of the survival horror classic from 2005, is now available on the iPhone 15 Pro and select iPad and Mac models. The game released on compatible Apple devices on Wednesday. While RE4 is listed for free on Apple’s App Store, accessing the full title would require in-app purchases. RE4 remake originally release for PC and consoles on March 24 and received critical acclaim for the visual and mechanical improvements it brought to 2005’s Resident Evil 4. The remake also earned three nominations at this year’s The Game Awards, including the top prize for Game of the Year.

Publisher Capcom showed off Resident Evil 4 remake for Apple devices at the iPhone 15 series launch event in September. The graphics-intensive title, meant to be played originally on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X, will run on the iPhone thanks to Apple’s new A17 Pro GPU present on the latest iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. RE4 remake can also be played on iPad Pro and iPad Air models running on M1 and M2 chips, and on Mac models with M1, M2 or M3 chips onboard.

The App Store listing for Resident Evil 4 went live back in September, with the pricing for the game set at a hefty Rs. 3,599. A small part of the base game can be played for free, but the full game would require an in-app purchase. The main game, however, is available on the App Store right now with a 50 percent discount, which brings the price for the base game (with bonus) down to Rs. 1,799. The discount ends January 17 and all purchases made before the date will include bonus attache cases and charms. The Separate Ways DLC and the Extra DLC Pack for the title are priced at Rs. 589 and Rs. 859, respectively.

Playing the game without a compatible controller would clutter the touchscreen on iPhone and iPad with on-screen touch control buttons. Apple, too, recommends playing the game with a controller. It’s also worth noting that RE4 save data cannot be uploaded and downloaded between MacOS and iOS devices. The game requires iOS 17.0 or later on iPhone 15 Pro models, iPadOS 17.0 on compatible iPad models, and macOS 13.0 or later on compatible Macs.

Resident Evil 4 puts you in the shoes of federal agent Leon S. Kennedy, assigned to rescue the president’s daughter. He tracks her down to a remote village in rural Spain, but finds a dangerous cult with horrific secrets and a legion of followers standing in his way. RE4, primarily a survival horror title, features third-person shooting with an “over-the-shoulder” perspective — a common gameplay trope in action titles first pioneered in the original Resident Evil 4.

In addition to the RE4 remake, Capcom also released Resident Evil Village, 2021’s first-person survival horror title, on iPhone 15 Pro phones and the M1-and-above-equipped iPads on October 30.

Resident Evil 4 Remake App Store Listing Goes Live, Priced at Premium Cost of Rs. 3,599

Listings for Resident Evil 4 remake’s iOS and iPadOS ports have gone live, showing a placeholder date of December 31. However, the mobile version is rather expensive, costing Rs. 3,599, matching the same default price tag as the mainline PC port. The game will be available with support for Universal Purchase, meaning the same app can be accessed across other Apple products you own, including the Mac. Similar to other Capcom titles, players will be granted a free trial/ demo before being asked to purchase the game for full content, hence it says ‘Free’ download on the App Store page.

Besides the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models, any Apple device housing an M1 chipset can run Resident Evil 4 remake, with Capcom promising ‘beautiful and detailed’ graphics on the Mac during their Tokyo Game Show segment. On the latter platform, the game is expected to weigh 19.3GB, while the phone version is around 700MB, which is likely to go up upon purchasing the complete version. I find it hard to imagine anyone wanting to play this acclaimed survival horror title on a mobile device at such a high price point, let alone having to deal with the abundance of translucent control buttons on the screen that make for an unsightly affair. The studio dropped raw screenshots from the iPhone port last week, and two-thirds of the screen is covered with buttons representing the PlayStation layout. Bear in mind that the images displayed on the App Store are largely from cinematics and do not represent actual gameplay.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Review

As per Bloomberg, Capcom is looking to expand into new markets for ‘long-term growth,’ with India being a focus. The company believes that within the next 5–10 years, sales in the country will surpass that of China, but such claims are heavily misguided. For one, the majority of Indian gamers play on mobile devices, which while Capcom is willing to build upon as seen with the aforementioned Resident Evil 4, mobile players aren’t really willing to pay premium costs for such titles. Not to mention, the most commonly used mobile platform in India is Android. Secondly, the regional pricing system for Capcom’s games is on the higher end, often contributing to piracy — it doesn’t help that the average Indian gamer does not make premium game purchases. Rs. 3,599 isn’t a small ask for many.

At the Tokyo Game Show event, Capcom also confirmed that Resident Evil 4’s free Mercenaries mode and the newly launched ‘Separate Ways’ Ada DLC are in development. Furthermore, the studio confirmed that Resident Evil Village is coming to iPhone 15 Pro phones and the newer M1-and-above-equipped iPads on October 30, just in time for Halloween. Oddly enough, the game is priced $10 higher than the existing Mac version, costing $39.99 (about Rs. 3,330). This also indicates the lack of Universal Purchase — meaning, those who own Resident Evil Village on the Mac will be forced to purchase the mobile version should they wish to play it on the go. Pre-orders for the same will go live soon.

Resident Evil 4 remake is coming to the iOS, iPadOS, and Mac in late 2023.

PlayStation, Xbox, Ubisoft and More: Summer Game Fest 2023 Partner Lineup Revealed

Ahead of the annual Summer Game Fest event, creator Geoff Keighley has announced the full list of partners expected to showcase their titles. The list includes 43 publishers and developers, including heavy hitters like PlayStation, which still hasn’t confirmed any exact dates or events for its summer months. The publisher, alongside Xbox, previously pulled out of the E3 2023 event, eventually leading to the cancellation of the video game extravaganza. Summer Game Fest is slated to kick off June 9 at 12:30am IST in India/ June 8 at 12pm PT in the US, live from the YouTube Theatre in Los Angeles. The event will be up for streaming on all major livestream platforms including YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, and TikTok.

Xbox is also part of the partner lineup, hosting a Games Showcase on June 11, focusing on first looks from its internal and third-party studios, followed by a Starfield Direct event, airing immediately after. Ubisoft is another major publisher to have a fixed date for its games showcase — set for June 12, which could possibly feature updates on the long-delayed naval combat game Skull and Bones. From CD Projekt Red, we can expect some news on Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty expansion, whereas Disney has been cooking up some Black Panther x Captain America team-up game.

This year’s Summer Game Fest can also be attended in person, with tickets available from the official website (Ticketmaster is the portal). It is worth mentioning that the event is merely meant as a platform for developers to show upcoming games and trailers, in addition to special guests who might pop up on stage. There are no hands-on gameplay/ demo sessions for consumers. That said, there is a special invite-only preview event for media and influencers — called PlayDays — which will take place after the show, allowing them to test out games.

We can expect to see a more detailed schedule as we near Summer Game Fest, but for now, here’s the complete list of confirmed developers and publishers attending the event, so far:

  • Activision
  • Amazon
  • Annapurna Interactive
  • Bandai Namco
  • Behaviour Interactive
  • Capcom
  • CD Projekt Red
  • Devolver Digital
  • Digital Extremes
  • Disney

  • Second Dinner
  • Sega
  • Smilegate Entertainment
  • Square Enix

  • Tribeca Festival
  • Ubisoft
  • Warner Bros Games
  • Xbox

Keighley introduced Summer Game Fest in 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, in response to all major events getting cancelled as part of lockdown protocol. The online digital-only festival opened room for publishers — both AAA and indie — to showcase their games without paying a major fee for a physical booth, as seen in E3. Back then, it was a four-month-long festival — a format that most gamers didn’t appreciate since there would be long periods of nothingness before a new announcement came about.

Summer Game Fest kicks off June 9 at 12:30am IST/ June 8 at 12pm PT in the US.

Street Fighter 6 Demo Is Now Available on PS4 and PS5; Capcom Offers In-Depth Look at the World Tour Mode

Street Fighter 6 just got a free playable demo on the PS4 and PS5. During the Street Fighter Showcase, held early Friday, developer Capcom unveiled a chock-full of new details about its upcoming fighter, ranging from Year 1 DLC characters to its single-player World Tour mode, and dropped a surprise demo, featuring Ryu and Luke as playable characters. The SF6 demo is now live on PlayStation and will be available on April 26 to those on PC and Xbox Series S/X. The demo lets you try out World Tour and build a custom avatar/ fighter, who can then be transferred over to the full game at launch — provided it’s the same platform. Any progress will not carry over.

As with every iteration, Street Fighter 6 will serve as a platform for fighting fans over the next couple of years. The previous instalment, Street Fighter V, released in 2016 and still maintains an active player base, with tons of in-person tournaments to go along with. Capcom will keep things fresh and exciting by adding new fighters to its Street Fighter 6 roster as DLC. First up, the tech-savvy Rashid is slated to arrive in the summer (Global North) of 2023, followed by a new addition to the franchise, A.K.I., in the autumn — marking the end of DLC additions in 2023. The remaining two characters drop next year — Street Fighter V’s Ed in early winter and the franchise-regular Akuma in spring 2024.

Capcom is also going hard on its single-player mode by introducing RPG mechanics. The World Tour mode throws you into the sprawling Metro City with a new character created, whose looks can be fully customised, ranging from changes to hair, eyes, skin, and more. From there, you’ll train under coach Luke and go through basic fighting moves and combos, before setting out on your adventure. The world itself has an open feel to it, featuring bystanders in a Yakuza-like city, who can be openly challenged to fights. The more you battle, the stronger your avatar becomes, thanks to EXP which can then be exchanged for upgrades to stats such as vitality (HP). Some fights come with specific objectives, which upon completion, grants rewards. Keeping in line with the RPG elements, players can purchase and equip clothing, which ultimately affects their stats and appearance. Capcom also notes that the product line will change periodically, so it’s best to keep checking the store every now and again.

You can also purchase food and consume food from local vendors, which can restore health and give your stats a temporary boost. Items like energy drinks can be used mid-battle to gain an upper hand akin to SEGA’s Persona series of games. Players can also learn Master Action from legendary fighters like Chun-Li, once they get enrolled in their fighting school. Feel free to undertake any special missions from your masters, further strengthening your relationship levels. Street Fighter 6’s World Tour mode also includes a Drive Stall move, which can be activated to slow down time and safely escape any ambushes.

Street Fighter 6 releases June 2 on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.

Resident Evil Village Gets Rid of Denuvo DRM on Steam

Capcom has quietly removed Denuvo DRM (digital rights management) protection from Resident Evil Village. As per a new report, the controversial anti-tampering tech was removed in the game’s latest update, and it’s no longer listed on its Steam store page. The technology – which is implemented to prevent piracy – is notorious for crippling game performance on PC. The issue was prevalent in Resident Evil Village as well, but Capcom decided to remove the DRM almost two years after its release. Pirates still managed to get the best of Capcom back in 2021, by releasing a cracked version which performed considerably better than the authentic copy.

Capcom has also removed Denuvo from the game’s Steam store page. As such, we are certain that this removal was intentional, and not accidental,” a report by DSOG states. A Crytek leak from 2020 revealed that Denuvo charges game companies based on how long the software is being used in a title, with the highest fee being collected within the first six months.

The cost tends to rapidly go down over time, and most game titles eventually get rid of it — some within weeks, while others such as Resident Evil Village take years. Capcom has followed a similar strategy with its other titles such as Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes, Devil May Cry 5, and Monster Hunter: World. It will be interesting to see how this DRM-free Resident Evil Village functions overall, given that many PC players had boycotted it due to performance issues.

More recently, Resident Evil Village received a virtual reality mode on the PS VR2 as a free DLC, allowing players to go through the entire game as they once again step into the shoes of protagonist Ethan Winters. It also comes with a dedicated VR tutorial and shooting ranges to master the new format. A demo version is also available to all PS VR2 owners.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Review

Capcom’s latest title Resident Evil 4 (2023) received its Mercenaries Mode free update on April 7, throwing special agent Leon S. Kennedy and other characters into wave-based enemy missions. However, the update also added a bunch of microtransactions to the game’s digital store. In Resident Evil 4, players must collect Spinels by completing missions and exchange them with the Merchant to collect tickets that help upgrade weapons. Now, players who are unwilling to go through that effort can simply pay for those tickets using real money. On Steam, the tickets start at Rs. 169 each, going up to Rs. 409 for a pack of three and Rs. 589 for a pack of five tickets.

Elsewhere, Lily Gao, the voice artist who gave life to Ada Wong in the Resident Evil 4 remake, hit back at the bitter comments she received in regard to her performance. “Being the first Asian actor to portray Ada in the Resident Evil video games is an honour, and I will forever be grateful to our producer and director, for making the decision on authentic representation,” Gao said in an Instagram post, which she previously deactivated in response to the harsh messages. “It’s unfortunate that with the game’s release, also came the all too familiar feeling of ‘I don’t belong’.” She further went on to criticise Asian stereotypes and how an inauthentic casting creates an unhealthy image.

“It is time we stop only capitalising on the sexualised, eroticised, and mysterious Asian woman, and make space to honour every kind of Asian woman,” Gao continued. “My Ada is a survivor. She is kind, just, intelligent, and funny. She is unpredictable, resilient, and absolutely not a stereotype.”

Resident Evil Village DLC: Winters’ Expansion With Third-Person Mode Launches October 28

Resident Evil Village DLC, Winters’ Expansion releases on October 28. Capcom dropped a trailer for the expansion, at the Tokyo Game Show, held Thursday, revealing the major additions coming to its newest survival-horror title. The DLC brings a third-person mode to Resident Evil Village, alongside a “Shadows of Rose“ story campaign and new characters and stages in the Mercenaries mode. Those who don’t own the main game can purchase the Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, a bundle comprising all the content, launching October 28, across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, and PC.

Resident Evil Village Winters’ Expansion – Third-person mode

The DLC’s first major feature is the highly-requested third-person mode, which as the name implies, shifts the camera to an over-the-shoulder perspective. Fans will be able to recognise this camera angle from the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes, which brings some added shakiness during tense chase sequences. Ethan Winters can now be seen in action with new animations that weren’t present at launch. This includes the newly added kick and guard actions, which were added to the newer, first-person RE games. “–experience a new sense of fear from this fresh perspective,” says the video voiceover.

Resident Evil Village: Winters’ Expansion – Shadows of Rose

The Winters’ Expansion DLC brings a fully-playable Shadows of Rose side-story to the mix. Presented in a third-person perspective, the campaign follows Rosemary Winters — Ethan’s daughter — 16 years after the events of Resident Evil Village. Exploring the warped and twisted realm of the fungal root, Megamycete, Rose must conquer her fears and fend off incoming zombie-like foes.

However, even a single attack from these enemies is fatal, throwing healing herbs and other buffs out of the window. One bite — in this case, suction — is enough to get you killed. To balance the combat, Rose is equipped with an icy elemental attack, that lets her freeze enemies, causing them to slow down and creating opportunities for headshots.

Resident Evil Village Winters’ Expansion – Mercenaries

The final piece of content is “The Mercenaries Additional Orders.” Players will step into the shoes of Resident Evil Village’s antagonists, and wreak havoc on armed werewolves. The new expansion lets you play as Lady Dimitrescu and Lord Heisenberg, who wield unique abilities in battle. In the Winters’ Expansion trailer, the tall vampire lady can be seen applying lipstick, while mutant Heisenberg smokes a big cigar — adding to their character.

Furthermore, Capcom confirmed that Resident Evil Village will soon be playable on macOS, provided the system is equipped with an M1 or M2 chip. A Nintendo Switch version is also launching on October 28, albeit it is a cloud version, letting players stream the game onto their handheld devices. Internet connection will be required throughout playtime.

Resident Evil Village Winters’ Expansion and its Gold Edition bundle launches on October 28, on the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, and PC. On PC (Steam), the expansion is available for pre-order at Rs. 1,199.

Street Fighter 6 Arriving in 2023; Characters, New Modes Revealed by Capcom

Street Fighter 6 is set to arrive sometime in 2023 on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. This announcement was made by Capcom during Sony’s PlayStation State of Play event on Thursday. Capcom is developing this game on the RE Engine, which has been previously used for titles like Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Village, and Devil May Cry 5. In addition, the Street Fighter 6 gameplay trailer was also released that showcases the unique art style of the new Street Fighter game. The trailer reveals two new game modes and confirms four characters, including an all-new fighter.

Additionally, the PlayStation Blog post reveals Street Fighter 6 will arrive with the classic Arcade Mode, online matches, Training Mode, local versus battles, and more as part of the Fighting Ground along with two new modes — World Tour and Battle Hub. World Tour will allow players to create a custom avatar for a single-player experience with an immersive story. There will also be the Battle Hub, which will serve as a venue for online matches with unique communication and engagement options. Capcom is expected to reveal more details about these modes in the build-up to Street Fighter 6’s release.

The Street Fighter 6 gameplay trailer offers glimpses at these game modes. It also confirms that the fighting roster will see the return of Chun-Li, Ryu, and Luke. All of these characters have been redesigned for Street Fighter 6. Jamie, a new fighter, has also been confirmed whose fighting style is based on drunken boxing. The Street Fighter 6 trailer also teased the addition of another new fighter, Kimberly, near the end.

Capcom has introduced a Drive System with Street Fighter 6. Players will have to now manage a Drive Guage during the fight, which will allow them to execute five offensive and defensive techniques — Drive Impact, Drive Parry, Overdrive Art, Drive Rush, and Drive Reversal. Street Fighter 6 will also feature a Modern Control Type aimed at new or rusty players. This control scheme will allow players to pull off complex character moves with ease. For more experienced players, the Classic Control Type will be available too.

The Street Fighter 6 developer is also teaming up with popular figures in the Fight Game Community (FGC) to bring Real-Time Commentary feature to the game. FGC regulars, Vicious and Aru, have been confirmed to lend their voices for this feature.

Street Fighter 6 will be released sometime in 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC via Steam.
