Google Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro Key Specifications Leak Online; Said to Get 120Hz Display, IP68 Rating

Google will showcase its next-generation smartphones —Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro— along with new wearables on October 4. Ahead of it, a prominent tipster has leaked the key specifications of the Pixel 8 series, leaving little to the imagination of smartphone enthusiasts. They are tipped to run on Tensor G3 SoC and get 10.5-megapixel selfie shooters along with an IP68 water resistance-rated build. The Pixel 8 is said to feature a 6.2-inch display, while the Pixel 8 Pro is said to get a 6.7-inch screen. The new source also corroborates previous leaks.

Known tipster Evan Blass (@evleaks) leaked the specifications of the upcoming Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro through a comparison promo chart on X (formerly Twitter). The Pixel 8 series is expected to offer a few similarities with last year’s Pixel 7 and Pixel 7a. As per the poster, the upcoming handsets will run on a new Tensor G3 chip.

The Pixel 8 is expected to feature a 6.2-inch Actua display with 120Hz refresh rate, while the pro model is said to get a 6.7-inch Super Actua screen with 120Hz refresh rate. The vanilla model is tipped to carry a dual rear camera unit, including a 50-megapixel primary sensor and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with autofocus, and offer up to 8x SuperRes zoom. The Pixel 8 Pro, in contrast, is said to pack a triple rear camera setup, comprising a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 48-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide lens, and another 48-megapixel telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. Both models are said to get a new 10.5-megapixel front camera sensor.

Google’s Pixel 8 series is said to offer fast charging capabilities and is claimed to offer up to 24 hours of battery life with a single charge. They will offer in-display fingerprint sensors and support face unlock feature for biometric authentication. The Pixel 8 Pro is tipped to also include a thermometer. Like the Pixel 7 series devices, the upcoming models are also shown to have an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

The Google Pixel 8 series hardware launch event is scheduled for October 4 at 10:00am local time (7:30pm IST). Google’s Pixel Watch 2 will also make its debut during the ‘Made by Google’ event.

Google Pixel 7a Price, Renders, Colour Options Leaked Ahead of Launch: Report

Google Pixel 7a is likely to make its debut at the upcoming Google I/O 2023, which is set to begin on May 10. While there is no official announcement on the same, a report has shared the expected price along with other details for the phone. The leaked price of the purported Pixel 7a suggests a slight price hike from its predecessor Pixel 6a. The phone’s price has reportedly been shared by a Singapore-based retailer along with colour options, as well as case renders.

According to a report by MySmartPrice citing tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore (Twitter: @Sudhanshu1414), the purported Pixel 7a will be priced at SGD 749 (roughly Rs. 46,000) for the 128GB storage variant. There is no information available on other storage options as of now. Additionally, the listing also reveals the colour options for the phone. The listing suggests that the Pixel 7a could come in three colour options: Charcoal, Blue, and Snow.

As per the leaked renders of Pixel 7a, the smartphone seems to carry a similar look as the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. The leaks also suggest that the Pixel 7a will come with a SIM tool, quick switch adapter, and USB-C cable in the box. Furthermore, the smartphone’s case has also been tipped in White, Jade, Carbon, and Blue colour options.

This is not the first time that Pixel 7a colour options have been leaked. A previous report also tipped the colour variants of the Google Pixel 7a (Arctic Blue, Carbon, and Cotton), which are similar to the ones mentioned in the new report. Other than these, the smartphone is said to be powered by a Tensor G2 SoC. It will reportedly sport a 6.1-inch Full-HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate. For optics, it is speculated to ship with a dual rear camera unit, led by a 64-megapixel primary sensor.

There could also be a 12-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide lens on the back panel. For selfies, it could pack a 13-megapixel front camera.

Google Pixel 7a Tipped To Feature Dual Camera Sensors, 90Hz OLED Display: Report

Pixel 7a, Google’s purported affordable “A”-tagged mid-range addition to the Pixel 7 series expected to launch in mid-2023, has been doing the rounds for quite a while now. It was previously predicted that the Google Pixel 7a would sport a triple-rear camera sensor setup featuring a Samsung 50-megapixel sensor, a 64-megapixel telephoto sensor, and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide angle sensor. This would have made it the first time when a telephoto sensor makes its way to the Pixel A-series. However, tipster Kuba Wojciechowski, who had previously revealed this information, has now suggested that Google may have removed the Samsung 50-megapixel lens from the lineup.

The tipster has also revealed new information regarding the Google Pixel 7a with regard to its display. According to the latest tip, Google may be utilising a 90Hz 1080p OLED panel display built by Samsung for its purported affordable offering. This would pit the device as having one of the best displays in the affordable segment.

Wojciechowski also went on to re-confirm his earlier tip with respect to processor being used on the purported “lynx” codenamed smartphone, expected to be branded as the Google Pixel 7a. The tipster confirmed that Qualcomm chips are being used by the search giant for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity over Google’s own Tensor SoC serving as the primary driver on the smartphone. This would be the first time a Tensor-powered smartphone is being paired with Qualcomm chips for connectivity, according to the report by Android Police.

Meanwhile, the device is also expected to support wireless charging which is also a first in its segment. However, wireless charging speeds would be limited to 5W, according to the tip. 5W is extremely slow, suggesting that wireless charging support might be being used by the search giant as a marketing push rather than a utility functionality on the smartphone.

Google launched the first A-series Pixel, the Google Pixel 3a), on the premise of making the flagship’s Pixel experience available on an affordable device through the usage of cheaper materials. This has slowly been blurred by the company through iterations of what is achievable under a budget.

Google has however not confirmed any details of the speculated smartphone.

Google Pixel 7a Tipped To Feature Flagship Camera Sensors, Wireless Charging: Report

Pixel 7a, Google’s purported affordable “A”-tagged mid-range addition to the Pixel 7 series expected to launch in 2023, will reportedly sport a significant upgrade over every previous A-series Pixel smartphones. It has been reported that Pixel 7a will come with better cameras and wireless charging, amongst other features. Google’s first A-series Pixel, the Pixel 3a, was launched on the premise of making the flagship’s Pixel experience available on affordable device achieved by the search giant through the usage of cheaper materials. However, with every new A-series launch, the company has reduced the divide between the flagship specifications, quality, and experience.

This strategy was reflected in the Pixel 4a 5G being released by Google alongside the Pixel 5, with both phones featuring identical Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC. The Pixel 4a 5G also featured a 90Hz refresh rate supporting display, water resistance, a premium metal body, and wireless charging, which helped the smartphone set itself apart in a category that did not regularly see such features. The Pixel 5a also managed to keep the retail price down while featuring a water-resistant body and metal exterior. Most notably, both the Pixel 4a and Pixel 5a phones featured the same main camera sensor as their flagship counterparts.

However, the Pixel 6a did not feature the same camera sensor as the Pixel 6 with the search giant choosing to retain the camera sensors from Pixel 5a.

Google’s work on the Pixel 7a was initially confirmed by a public conversation on Android’s open-source code, which indicated that the device codenamed “Lynx” is going to be the Pixel 7a which will release in 2023.

Earlier this year, Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station shared details about a Pixel device being manufactured by Foxconn in China that would use the same Tensor G2 chip as the Pixel 7 series and feature a ceramic body. This device is now being tipped to be the Pixel 7a, according to the report by 9to5google. If this were to be true, the Pixel 7a would be the first Google phone in the Pixel lineup to feature a ceramic body.

Meanwhile, according to android researcher Kuba Wojciechowski, the Lynx Pixel 7a is set to include the “P9222” chip for wireless charging. However, the aforementioned chip is only capable of 5W charging, suggesting that the wireless charging capabilities of the Pixel 7a might be more promotional than being functional.

With regards to image capturing and processing, the Pixel 7a may feature the same Samsung 50-megapixel sensor as the Pixel 6 series, in addition to a 64-megapixel telephoto sensor and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide angle sensor. This would be the first time when a telephoto sensor makes its way to the Pixel A-series. In fact, only top end “Pro” Pixel models have previously featured telephoto sensors.

Google has, however, remained silent and not revealed any information about the purported Pixel 7a model in terms of name, design, specifications, pricing, or launch details.
