Love Story actor Ryan O’Neal dies at 82 | Entertainment News

Actor revealed in 2012 that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Ryan O’Neal, the Oscar-nominated star of the 1970 romantic drama, Love Story, has died at the age of 82, his son has said.

Patrick O’Neal said in a post on Instagram on Friday that his father had passed away peacefully.

“This is the toughest thing I’ve ever had to say but here we go. My dad passed away peacefully today, with his loving team by his side supporting him and loving him as he would us,” O’Neal said, adding that his father “has always been my hero”.

No cause of death was given. O’Neal said in 2012 that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, but the prognosis was good.

O’Neal, an amateur boxer-turned-actor, broke into the entrainment business in 1964 when he bagged a role in the prime-time television soap opera Peyton Place.

During the 1970s, O’Neal became known as one of Hollywood’s leading heartthrobs, starring in films including What’s Up, Doc?, Paper Moon, and Barry Lyndon.

O’Neal’s most celebrated turn came in the 1970 romantic drama, Love Story, opposite Ali MacGraw,  for which he received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor.

O’Neal, who was twice divorced, was also known for his decades-long tumultuous romance with late actress Farrah Fawcett.

The couple split in 1997 but reunited a few years later, and he was at Fawcett’s side during her battle with cancer.

O’Neal fathered actors Griffin O’Neal and Tatum O’Neal with his first wife, Joanna Moore,  and had son Patrick with his second wife, Leigh Taylor-Young.

Shane MacGowan, poetic, hard-charging frontman of The Pogues, dies at 65 | Music News

MacGowan won fame for incorporating traditional Irish ballads into Britain’s punk scene in the 1980s and 90s.

Shane MacGowan, who galvanised Britain’s punk scene with his incorporation of Irish traditional ballads into that genre in the late 1980s, has died at 65.

MacGowan’s wife Victoria Mary Clarke released a statement announcing his death on Thursday, saying that The Pogues frontman, famous for haunting lyrics and his turbulent relationship with addiction, had died peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones.

“Thank you for your presence in this world, you made it so very bright and you gave so much joy to so many people with your heart and soul and your music,” Clarke said in an Instagram post, also saying that MacGowan had gone to join “Jesus and Mary, and his beautiful mother Therese”.

Born in the British county of Kent to Irish parents on Christmas Day in 1957, MacGowan was shaped by summers in the Irish countryside and was known for his innovative use of Irish traditional themes in punk music.

He won fame for songs like A Pair of Brown Eyes and his bittersweet, expletive-strewn 1987 Christmas anthem Fairytale of New York, before being ejected from The Pogues in 1991 as he struggled with substance abuse that sometimes led to erratic behaviour.

“So many of his songs would be perfectly crafted poems, if that would not have deprived us of the opportunity to hear him sing them,” Irish President Michael Higgins, who is also a poet, said in a statement.

“His words have connected Irish people all over the globe to their culture and history, encompassing so many human emotions in the most poetic of ways.”

Other icons of Britain’s tempestuous punk scene, which raged against the UK’s Thatcherite turn in the late 1970s, also praised MacGowan as a visionary artist.

Joe Strummer, the punk singer-songwriter who led The Clash and later played with The Pogues and briefly replaced MacGowan, called him “one of the finest writers of the century”.

While MacGowan embodied the hard-charging image of Britain’s punk scene — with irreverent songs, missing teeth, and an ear that was allegedly bitten off at a Clash show — his lyrics were noted for their prose and affiliation with the downtrodden.

“He has a very natural, unadorned, crystalline way with language,” Australian punk singer Nick Cave said of MacGowan, a close friend. “There is a compassion in his words that is always tender, often brutal, and completely his own.”

Saudi Arabia selected to host World Expo in 2030 | Entertainment News

The country also expected to host the World Cup in 2034 achieves the latest in a series of victories for Gulf states on international events.

The Expo 2030 world’s fair will be held in Riyadh in another hosting victory for a Gulf country after Qatar put on football’s World Cup last year.

South Korea’s Busan and Italy’s Rome were also in the running to host the world’s fair, a once-every-five-year event that attracts millions of visitors and billions of dollars in investment.

Saudi Arabia’s capital won 119 votes, Busan 29 and Rome 17, results from 182 members of the Paris-based Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) showed on Tuesday. Saudi Arabia needed to garner two-thirds of the votes to win in the first round.

The Italian contestants were scathing in their criticism of the result.

“This huge result for Saudi was unexpected in those proportions,” Giampiero Massolo, head of the Italian Expo bid, told reporters. “It is no longer about the merits but about transactions.”

“Yesterday it was a soccer championship. Tomorrow it will be the Olympics,” he added.

Saudi Arabia, as the only declared candidate, is set to host the 2034 World Cup and is also planning an Olympics bid.

Riyadh had enlisted football star Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for the capital’s Al Nassr club, to persuade BIE members in a video shown before the vote. The city has proposed to host the event from October 2030 to March 2031.

The win is the icing on the cake for Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s ambitious Vision 2030 programme, which aims to wean the country off its oil dependency.

“We had a fantastic team of ministers going around the world, engaging our counterparts in a very, very active way to understand what they expected, what they were looking for and what we should deliver in order to gain their trust,” Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said.

Critics said the crown prince wants to use the expo to improve his country’s image after the 2018 murder of prominent Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi by a team of Saudi agents.

Adam Driver shocks audience at film festival after critic calls ‘Ferrari’ crash scene ‘cheesy’: ‘F–k you’

Sometimes, it’s easier just to be blunt in the face of criticism.

An audience member at Poland’s Camerimage Film Festival told Adam Driver how he felt about the special effects for Driver’s upcoming film “Ferrari,” after the crowd was treated to a special screening followed by a Q&A with the actor on Sunday.

“What do you think about [the] crash scenes?” Driver was asked by the audience following the screening.

“They looked pretty harsh, drastic and, I must say, cheesy for me. What do you think?”

The 39-year-old actor did not hold back in his response to the criticism.

“F–k you. I don’t know? Next question,” the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” star bluntly responded.

An audible gasp from the crowd filled the screening room from Driver’s nonchalant, profane response, followed by the sound of tense laughter from stunned audience members.

The Marine Corps veteran turned performer was honored with the Special EnergaCAMERIMAGE Award for an Actor during the festival.

The “Marriage Story” star also introduced “Ferrari” as an entry in the Camerimage Main Competition, according to Variety.

The audience member who viewed the film asked Driver what he thought of the crash scene after he believed it was “cheesy.”

Driver — also an executive producer for the film — plays the legendary Italian race car driver and entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari in director Michael Mann’s biographical drama.

Set during the summer of 1957 as the Ferrari company nears bankruptcy, it follows Enzo’s journey of competing in the iconic Mille Miglia, an open-road motorsport race stretching 1,000 miles across Italy’s treacherous terrain while struggling with the death of his son.

In the film’s first teaser, released in August, Driver looked unrecognizable as the 59-year-old Italian sports car entrepreneur, sporting slicked-back gray hair and sunglasses.

Italian film producer Andrea Iervolino told Top Gear the film resembled a James Bond movie.

“Adam Driver plays Enzo and he’s done an amazing job,” Iervolino said of the “House of Gucci” actor.

Penélope Cruz, Patrick Dempsey, Gabriel Leone, Sarah Gordon, and Jack O’Connell also star in the film, which Troy Kennedy Martin scripted.

The movie is based on Brock Yates’ 1991 biography “Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races, the Machine.”

The four-time Emmy-nominated actor has been on a months-long press tour to promote “Ferrari.”

The film, which debuted at the Venice International Film Festival in August, received a six-minute standing ovation following the screening, according to Variety.

This isn’t the first time movie-goers have seen Driver in the racing world: he recently appeared at the 2023 Indy 500 and starred in the 2017 comedy “Logan Lucky,” set during the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600.

Though Driver’s response may seem harsh to some, many across social media who saw the video praised the two-time Academy Award nominee for letting the critic know how he felt.

“My man,” ‘Knives Out’ director Rian Johnson posted on X.

“This rules,” Barstool Sports podcaster Robbie Fox shared.

“Iconic. He really is Harrison Ford’s fake son,” Youtuber Kyle Katarn wrote.

“Normalize this response to stupid Q&A questions,” wrote X user @CinemaJoe.

‘Ferrari’ races into theaters on Christmas day.

Nathan Fielder and Emma Stone mock HGTV in Showtime’s ‘The Curse’

Showtime’s new satire “The Curse” is not an easy watch — and it might make you cringe.

But, for those who enjoy star/co-creator Nathan Fielder’s other idiosyncratic work (Comedy Central’s “Nathan For You,” HBO’s “The Rehearsal”) the series, premiering Nov. 12 at 10 p.m. is worth a watch. (It’s also streaming on Paramount+).

The story follows Whitney and Asher Siegel (Emma Stone, Fielder), a newlywed couple struggling to bring their vision for eco-friendly housing to the small community of Española, NM.

They’re also trying to make an HGTV-style reality show about their efforts called “Flipanthropy.”

Whitney tears down old houses and replaces them with her eco-friendly homes. (She quickly deletes Instagram comments saying that she ripped off another artist’s designs, and shuts down reporters questions about her parents being “slumlords.”) Asher, who is awkward on camera while trying to film their show, handles the buying and construction parts of the gig.

It’s not a direct satire of Chip and Joanna Gaines — since their personalities and goals are different — but, nonetheless, “The Curse” will be familiar for those who have tuned into any house-flipping show hosted by a couple.

Whitney and Asher tell themselves that they’re more virtuous than other reality shows; instead of ignoring local people who get displaced by house-flipping, they’re trying to help them.

Eccentric producer Dougie (series co-creator Benny Safdie), who is also Asher’s childhood friend, criticizes their planned TV show as “boring” and feeling like an “infomercial.” He thinks the show could be a hit — if only they spice it up.

Asher (Nathan Fielder) and Whitney (Emma Stone) are trying to do an HGTV show, and self-righteous about helping the community.

Dougie keeps butting heads with Whitney, who disapproves of his methods. In one instance, while they’re filming a segment, Dougie pours water on a woman’s face after she learns that they gave her unemployed son a job, but the woman fails to react emotionally.

Whitney objects that giving her fake tears is “disgraceful” (“We don’t treat people that way!”) Dougie also tries turning the couple against each other — and they don’t make it difficult.

Oh, they’re also trying to have a child and, when Asher accidentally offends a local girl who tells him “I curse you,” it begins feeling like that might be more than just a kid’s whimsical utterance.

Nathan Fielder and Emma Stone play a couple who aren’t quite Chip and Joanna Gaines, but are a satire of that ilk.
Richard Foreman Jr./A24/Paramount+ with SHOWTIME

There are a lot of topics addressed in the show: gentrification, reality TV, house flipping, self-righteous wealthy people who tell themselves they’re “helping” those who are less fortunate, sex, religion.

At times, it feels like too much. But the show plows along with confidence and, for the most part, doesn’t feel like it’s randomly flailing around.

As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Whitney and Asher aren’t quite as virtuous as they want the world to think they are.

“The Curse” is fully scripted, unlike Fielder’s other series, and it’s not always readily apparent when a scene is being played straight or when it’s supposed to be funny.

Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie both star in the show, and also both created and wrote it.
Richard Foreman Jr./A24/Paramount+ with SHOWTIME

Similar to his other work — and to Safdie’s work directing and co-writing movies like “Uncut Gems” and “Good Time” — the series seems to revel in purposefully making its audience uncomfortable.

Some viewers might lose patience with that type of story. It’s not a gentle sitcom that you can let wash over you.

But, to audiences who don’t mind comedy that’s abrasive and strange – as well as clever —  there’s a lot to like.

Kelly Clarkson explains why Taylor Swift sends her gifts

Taylor Swift does more than drop Easter eggs after the re-release of her albums. The musician also sends flowers to Kelly Clarkson — after every single “Taylor’s Version” album drops.

The “American Idol” Season 1 winner, 41, revealed the sweet gesture in a new interview.

“You know what’s so funny? She just sent me flowers,” she told E! News. “She’s so nice. She did. She was like, ‘Every time I release something’—’cause she just did 1989. I got that really cute cardigan, too.”

In 2019, Clarkson suggested via X (then formerly known as Twitter) that the “Midnights” singer should re-record her work. At the time, Scooter Braun’s company Ithaca Holdings LLC acquired her former label Big Machine Label Group and obtained the rights to the masters for her first six studio albums.

Despite the advice, the “Kelly Clarkson Show” host insists Swift probably would have come up with that idea on her own too.

“I love how kind she is though,” Clarkson continued. “She’s a very smart businesswoman. So, she would have thought of that. But it just sucks when you see artists that you admire and you respect really wanting something and it’s special to them. You know if they’re going to find a loophole, you find a loophole. And she did it and literally is, like, the best-selling artist I feel like of all-time now.”

The mom of two went on to note that it’s “so cool to see a fanbase” like the Swifties really getting behind Swift, 33.

“She’s known for being such an incredible songwriter and the soundtrack to a lot of people’s lives and that’s her life. So, you should have the option of owning that,” she concluded.

Swift, meanwhile, is currently back on tour. After a brief break, she picked back up the Eras Tour concert in Argentina on Thursday night. However, it appears her new rumored beau, Travis Kelce, was not in attendance.

An insider close to the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 34, told Page Six Wednesday that the athlete was traveling to see the pop star perform over the weekend. However, they didn’t specify which show he planned to attend.

Last month, Clarkson actually joked about Swift and Kelce’s romance, saying that the NFL panning to Swift at his games made it feel like she was watching a “Housewives” episode instead of football.

“It is hilarious how it is literally taking over the NFL for people [like me] who like watching sports,” she said at the time. “It’s like you’re watching gossip things. What about the [game] play?”

Robert De Niro’s ex-assistant wins $1.2M in gender discrimination trial

Robert De Niro’s company Canal Productions was found liable for gender discrimination and retaliation against his former longtime personal assistant, Graham Chase Robinson, in the pair’s civil trial.

A jury in New York City federal court reached the decision Thursday after nearly five hours of deliberations and ordered Canal — which the actor formed to look after his business and personal needs — to pay Robinson, 41, more than $1.26 million in damages.

De Niro, 80, is to make the payments in two installments of $632,142, according to the Associated Press.

However, the four-woman, three-man jury found him not personally liable.

Additionally, Deadline reported that Robinson was cleared of any financial wrongdoing in her 11 years as an employee for the Oscar winner.

Canal Productions was ordered to pay Graham Chase Robinson more than $1.26 million in damages.

Per the outlet, De Niro was not present for the hearing, but Robinson was. She reportedly hugged one of her attorneys upon hearing the verdict.

“We’re thrilled with the verdict. Couldn’t be happier. She’s been totally vindicated,” a member of her team told reporters outside the courthouse as Robinson smiled through tears.

Another one of her lawyers told People in a statement, “We are delighted that the jury saw what we saw and returned a verdict in Chase Robinson’s favor against Robert De Niro’s company Canal Productions.

“Not only did Ms. Robinson win her case against Canal, but the jury completely vindicated Ms. Robinson by finding De Niro’s claims against her to be without merit.”

During the two-week trial, the “Goodfellas” star admitted on the stand that he “berated” Robinson and likely called her “petulant,” “snippy” and a “f—king spoiled brat,” but he denied screaming at her.

“I’ve raised my voice,” he explained. “I don’t yell. You wanna dispute that? That’s one thing I don’t do.”

However, the “Godfather Part II” star raised his voice several times throughout his testimony, including when he called Robinson out after he was accused of not paying her fairly compared to another male staffer.

“We’re thrilled with the verdict. Couldn’t be happier. She’s been totally vindicated,” one of Robinson’s attorneys said.

“Every little thing she’s trying to get me on is nonsense!” he exclaimed. “Shame on you, Chase Robinson.”

He went on to dismiss other allegations of gender-based discrimination as “ridiculous.”

De Niro also conceded that his girlfriend, Tiffany Chen, “might have been saying” disrespectful things about Robinson, but he implied it was acceptable because Robinson was being disrespectful first.

Robinson began working at Canal in 2008 and acted as the vice president of production and finance — which allowed her to sign off on grand expenses without approval — before she abruptly left the company in April 2019.

Canal then filed a $3 million lawsuit against her that August for allegedly misusing and misappropriating funds.

Two months later, Robinson returned the favor with a $12 million lawsuit citing workplace and sexual harassment as well as sexism.

Go Behind the Scenes of Fair Play’s Corporate Costume Design

The film raises a lot of uncomfortable questions about sex and power. How were those two themes showcased in the wardrobe?

With the Emily character, it was finding suits that just looked amazing on her, and throughout, we just wanted her to look really strong but then almost undoing the power of [the suits] with those slightly frilly blouses—blouses that are almost the color of lingerie [and] that have a sort of frail femininity to them. She is playing with that. She is using that femininity. Even though she’s got these shoulder pads and this little suit of armor, there is also this nod to her femininity, which I think women, especially in that world, do play with. I think that’s quite an interesting contrast. You have these super-sharp and super-slick and empowering suits, but then it’s then feminized with these really delicate silk blouses and little bits of lace and little bits of jewelry and heels you could probably only walk in for four hours.

Let’s talk a little more about Emily’s wardrobe. We see her go from being the underdog to a position of power in a very male-dominated world quite quickly. How did you want to show that evolution in her clothes?

The script—and film really—only spans a couple of weeks. When we sat down and looked at the timeline of it, it was a really compact time, and one of the things that really struck me reading the script is there is no time for extracurriculars. There are a couple of times they go to a bar, but it’s still work. It’s still with colleagues and the boss. Sure, maybe they get home and are on Net-a-Porter buying, buying, buying after buying, buying, buying all day long, but in reality, where does she suddenly acquire these pieces from? Especially at that point where Luke undermines her appearance, it really throws her, and she’s scared now to wear a blouse. She’s scared now to have that femininity. So the black roll-neck comes out, but that feels wrong. There’s this kind of panic.

I think one of my favorite outfits is the one she wears to the strip club. It was quite a brassy belt, bigger earrings. There is an air of confidence, the big cuff on the blouse. It’s just got a bit more swagger. And then the trouser suit—that fact she’s in trousers and not a skirt. For me, when you think about that progression, it’s like she has days when she’s feeling really great and days when Luke has just completely undermined her, and she has no confidence. It’s all so skin-deep and shallow. … Rather than just create this trajectory of “she goes from a cheap suit to a really expensive suit,” I wanted it to be like, “You are the same person inside, and we are going to try and bring a bit more power and confidence, but at the same time, that insecurity is still very much there.” Other than that very first scene at the wedding party when she’s in the dress and … a few other scenes in the flat where we see her in lingerie, it felt like there was no breathing space outside of that office, so I think it was more important to really keep her in that uniform.

What about Luke? Can you tell me about the sartorial story you were trying to tell with his workwear?

With him, we fitted many suits. I think he ended up with 10 or 12 suits. There were definitely ones that were a really nice cut and looked really good, and then there were others that weren’t quite as flattering, just not a great cut on him. Interestingly, in a way, I played the reverse on him. Whereas we were trying to make [Emily] more badass as the film goes on, with [Luke], there was almost a decline that’s happening, so we were favoring the really good suits at the top of the movie and then the slightly less… None of them were unflattering, but there were some that were… less impressive. With color and the fabrics, there were some that were a bit softer [and] not as sharp and solid, that felt not as assertive on camera, so we were playing those at the other end of the movie.

Leonardo DiCaprio, model Vittoria Ceretti make out in Ibiza club

Leonardo DiCaprio was seen locking lips with his rumored love interest Vittoria Ceretti during a late-night party at a club in Ibiza, Spain.

In video exclusively obtained by Page Six, the 25-year-old model is seen making out with the 48-year-old “Titanic” star, whose back is up against the wall of the Hï Ibiza club at around 4:30 in the morning on Aug. 9.

DiCaprio was dressed inconspicuously in his usual black baseball cap and black T-shirt ensemble.

Ceretti, for her part, had her hair slicked back in a ponytail and wore a sparkly one-shoulder top that reflected off of the club’s LED lights.

The pair were making out for a few seconds in the corner as EDM music blasted all around them.

The video then pans over to the crowd and back again to the “Wolf of Wall Street” star and the Italian stunner, who seductively dances on him.
