Why Santiago Cabrera’s ‘menacing’ role on ‘The Cleaning Lady’ stands out

Veteran actor Santiago Cabrera has been part of the superhero world (“Heroes”), domestic dramas (“Big Little Lies”) and sci-fi franchises (“Star Trek: Picard”).

Now, he’s entering the crime-thriller world of the Fox hit “The Cleaning Lady.”

“I like to shake things up,” Cabrera, 45, told The Post, referring to his disparate genres.

“I didn’t do comedy for a long time, and a bit of comedy has started to come my way lately [and] I really enjoyed that. Even in drama, I like being able to bring a lightness whenever possible, because that’s also life.

“Someone the other day asked if it was by choice that I’ve done stuff in the nerdy world – fantasy and sci- fi and comic book [shows]. Those are just the most incredible and loyal fans. I’ve loved being part of those stories and discovering what they mean to people.

“The more eclectic I can keep [my roles], the better.”

Now in Season 3 (airing Tuesdays at 8 p.m.), “The Cleaning Lady” (created by Miranda Kwok) is about  Cambodian-Filipino former doctor Thony De La Rosa (Elodie Yung), who comes to America for medical treatment for her son, where she gets a job as a regular cleaning service worker. As she struggles to support her son, she ends up getting ensnared in the criminal underworld, and becoming a “cleaning lady” for organized crime.

Tragically, former co-star Adan Canto, who played her criminal ally Arman Morales, died of cancer in January at age 42. Former co-star Oliver Hudson’s character, Garrett Miller, was also killed off in Season 2, leading to an influx of new characters in Season 3.

Cabrera, who is also known for playing Lancelot in the BBC series “Merlin,” joins the show as Ivy League educated attorney Jorge Sanchez, who enters the story with his cartel boss sister, Ramona (Kate del Castillo).

“I thought it was very refreshing to see a show on network TV with a lead like Elodie’s character,” said Cabrera.

“And at the same time, I love the idea of playing someone who is from this world of violence, but has the challenge to bring humanity to him. I got a very nice letter from the showrunners, starting with a two-page description of this guy’s arc for the season, and his background. It’s very refreshing to get that.

“I’ve seen a lot of gangster movies, of course, so I didn’t have to go watch all those again, but I watched as much of the show as I could before starting, to see the world you’re delving into,” he said. “What I love is that characters start to take a life of their own. Also what’s very freeing is, in these formats where you jump on board [a show a few seasons in] and discover it as you go along, you can use that discovery.”

“I loved that this very menacing and unpredictable person also has a softer human side,” said Cabrera. FOX

He said he liked the fact that Jorge is an unlikely family man, since he’s got a daughter and a sister.

“The family aspect and the sibling relationship was relatable,” Cabrera said. “I loved that this very menacing and unpredictable person also has a softer human side. I found that really interesting, the juxtaposition of those two worlds.”

As Season 3 progresses, “You’ll see a lot of the relationships start to develop, worlds start to collide and come together, interests will start to come together. I’m excited for audiences to get to know Jorge more, and see different sides of him,” he said.

“Interests will start to come together,” Cabrera said about the rest of Season 3. FOX

Coming up, Cabrera said he’s not sure if he’s done with the “Star Trek” world — “Anything can happen, so never say never. I really enjoyed that character, so you never know” — and he’ll also co-star with Eva Longoria in the AppleTV+ show “Land of Women.”

“It’s a dramedy set in wine country,” he said. “It’s a lot of fun.”

Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Brady party together at star-studded Art Basel Miami bash

Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Brady were flocked by a bounty of beauties at Wayne and Cynthia Boich’s ridiculously star-studded private mansion party celebrating Art Basel Miami on Friday night.

“Leo and Tom were letting loose at a back table at the party,” a partygoer tells Page Six of Boich’s exclusive waterfront fête where Snoop Dogg and Lil Wayne performed.

“They were both dancing to the music and all these beautiful women were surrounding Tom.”

Another source added that the former NFL star looked like he was “on the hunt” for a lady and the “Killers of the Flower Moon” actor was “basically a wingman” for the retired quarterback.

“They didn’t have to lift a finger,” the second source added, explaining that women were bee-lining for their packed table all night.

And a little rain didn’t stop Brady, 46, and the Hollywood star, 49, from keeping the night going.

“All of a sudden, it started raining and Leo and Tom stayed at their table and just looked like they were having an amazing time while other guests sought shelter inside Wayne’s house,” the partygoer said.

At one point, Brady was seen laughing and smiling while DiCaprio, wearing his signature black baseball hat, closely chatted in a corner with Sean Penn.

We’re told DiCaprio, who usually keeps a low profile, was a “total social butterfly” and was seen flitting around the party to schmooze with other celebrities and attendees.

“Leo looked like he was having the best time ever,” a spy tells us.

DiCaprio and Brady both stayed at the party until well after midnight before making their exit.

Meanwhile, Snoop, 52, was seen decompressing with a smoke session at the back of the party after performing for nearly an hour for the intimate crowd. He belted out several of his hits, including “Gin and Juice,” “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “Young, Wild & Free.”

Lil Wayne, 41, then took to the stage and rapped an impressive set featuring songs “Lollipop,” “A Milli” and “6 Foot 7 Foot.”

Other stars spotted at the A-list soirée included Dwyane Wade, Venus and Serena Williams, Cindy Crawford and husband Rande Gerber, Corey Gamble, Tyga, Jimmy Butler, Victor Cruz, Lindsey Vonn and boyfriend Diego Osorio, AE Edwards, Harvey Spevak, Noah Tepperberg and wife Melissa Wood and Google co-founder Sergey Brin.

As Page Six reported on Friday, Brady is “dating around” and keeping his options open after his short-lived fling with Irina Shayk.

Brady and Shayk, 37, both attended DiCaprio’s Re:Wild event at the Superblue Museum on Thursday night.

“Brady was at the party briefly and he said hi to her, but he also said hi to a lot of other people,” a spy said.

The duo sparked dating rumors in May but things fizzled after less than four months together due to conflicting schedules. The former quarterback’s short chapter with the supermodel was his first public relationship following his October 2022 divorce from Gisele Bündchen.

Brady and the former Victoria’s Secret model, who were married for 13 years, share two kids: Vivian, 11, and Benjamin, 13. The athlete also shares son Jack, 16, with ex Bridget Moynahan.

Meanwhile, DiCaprio is seemingly off the market now that he’s getting serious with Vittoria Ceretti.

He and the Italian model, 25, have been romantically linked since they were seen making out on the dancefloor in Ibiza, Spain, in August.

“They’ve been spending quite a bit of time together over the past few months, and they’re enjoying getting to know one another on a deeper level,” an insider told Page Six in September while confirming their relationship.

The Oscar-winner, who was seen eyeing art pieces at the convention center earlier this week, most recently dated Gigi Hadid following his August 2022 breakup with his girlfriend of four years, Camila Morrone.

Interestingly, Hadid, 28, has recently sparked dating rumors with Shayk’s ex-partner, Bradley Cooper.

Shayk and the “Maestro” actor, 48, were together for four years before splitting in June 2019 and continue to co-parent their 6-year-old daughter, Lea De Seine.

Leonardo DiCaprio, model Vittoria Ceretti make out in Ibiza club

Leonardo DiCaprio was seen locking lips with his rumored love interest Vittoria Ceretti during a late-night party at a club in Ibiza, Spain.

In video exclusively obtained by Page Six, the 25-year-old model is seen making out with the 48-year-old “Titanic” star, whose back is up against the wall of the Hï Ibiza club at around 4:30 in the morning on Aug. 9.

DiCaprio was dressed inconspicuously in his usual black baseball cap and black T-shirt ensemble.

Ceretti, for her part, had her hair slicked back in a ponytail and wore a sparkly one-shoulder top that reflected off of the club’s LED lights.

The pair were making out for a few seconds in the corner as EDM music blasted all around them.

The video then pans over to the crowd and back again to the “Wolf of Wall Street” star and the Italian stunner, who seductively dances on him.

Page Six has reached out to reps for DiCaprio and Ceretti but did not immediately hear back.

Just hours prior to the PDA-packed romp at the discotheque, the “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” star spent a day on a yacht in Formentera, Spain, with two other bikini-clad beauties.

He was photographed on Aug. 9 sailing the Mediterranean Sea with “Love Island” star Arabella Chi and another gal pal, who both wore matching animal-print swimsuits.

During DiCaprio and Ceretti’s night out, they were also seen dancing.

DiCaprio’s last relationship was with Camila Morrone, whom he dated for four years.

He was also romantically linked — off and on — to supermodel Gigi Hadid, but the fling was casual and not exclusive.

Meanwhile, Ceretti married DJ Matteo Milleri in 2020. It’s unclear whether they have separated or are divorced.

NYC DOE staffers sued for unpaid rent for Dominican teachers

A group of city Department of Education administrators is being sued for $24,000 in unpaid rent by the owners of a Bronx house where teachers brought from the Dominican Republic were forced to live.

ADASA, the Association of Dominican-American Supervisors and Administrators, leased a duplex at 1820 Pilgrim Ave., then required five teachers and one woman’s husband to pay $1,350 to $1,450 a month for single rooms while sharing a kitchen and bathroom.

But the DOE administrators running ADASA — now under investigation — have not paid the monthly $8,000 rent since November, landlords Yuping Chen and Yanlai Lin charged in a lawsuit filed in Bronx Housing Court last month.

The DOE administrators running ADASA have not paid the monthly $8,000 rent since November, according to court documents.

As of Jan. 5, ADASA also owed more than $20,000 in rent at 4414 Baychester Ave in The Bronx, where the group made 11 other Dominican teachers live under similar conditions.

A third building where the DOE administrators put Dominican teachers, a co-op on Marion Avenue in The Bronx, was owned by the late mother of Emmanuel Polanco, ADASA’s first vice-president and the principal of MS 80 before he was removed from the school in October.

In December, city and federal agencies began to investigate complaints that the Dominican teachers were exploited and threatened by ADASA.

Last week, teachers told The Post they have not been informed about the progress of the probe.

All 19 teachers housed by ADASA have since moved out.

Ray Buffer charged with theft after allegedly stealing comics

California-based actor Ray Buffer has been charged with misdemeanor theft after a comic book store accused him of stealing from their San Diego business back in October.

Buffer, who appeared in shows like “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “ER,” was charged by the San Diego City Attorney’s Office with petty theft, pleading not guilty to the charge in January, a spokesperson for the office told The Post Wednesday.

The spokesperson also confirmed the charge was connected to an incident that occurred on Oct. 4, 2022, at Southern California Comics, which very publicly accused Buffer at the time of stealing hundreds of dollars worth of comics.

A readiness conference in San Diego Superior Court is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 28, the city attorney’s office said. The city officials did not provide the date when charges were filed, but a case involving Buffer was filed on Dec. 13, 2022, according to online records.

The comic book store blasted out surveillance footage of the alleged theft days after the incident, which shows a man inside the business who appears to conceal the comics under his shirt.

Southern California Comics owner Jamie Newbold told The Post Wednesday he didn’t know Buffer was charged until he received a call from an attorney with the city this week. He said he was pleased the case was moving forward.

“I thought this case got swept under or out of the way,” Newbold said. “Now I realize the case matters, therefore what I’ve had to go through matters.”

“I was losing hope every month I didn’t hear anything from anyone,” he said, after he contacted authorities two days following the October incident.

Newbold explained in an October interview he originally put images up of an unidentified man on social media to warn other comic book stores about the possible thief. Other businesses then claimed the man was Buffer.

Southern California Comics shared the news of Buffer’s prosecution in a Facebook post Wednesday.

Newbold wrote he was told by the San Diego City Attorney’s Office that Buffer’s lawyer is hoping to settle the case by allowing Buffer to enter a diversion program that would require the actor to pay restitution for the alleged theft.

“He gets off really light if the courts allow him to pay for the crime financially,” Newbold said. “I would prefer that he sees justice.”

Newbold estimates that about 10 comics were stolen worth around $850.

Further information on the case was not made available by the city attorney’s office and the office did not provide a defense attorney for Buffer Wednesday evening.

At least one other comic store claimed Buffer stole from them in September, though it’s unclear whether the accusations led to criminal activity.

Buffer had other minor roles in single episodes of “CSI: Miami,” “Gilmore Girls” and “Cold Case,” according to his IMDb page.

He’s also appeared in multiple movies, according to this profile.

Reps. Tenney, Stefanik demand Biden answer for NY migrant surge

Two top Republican congresswomen from New York are demanding that the Biden administration answer questions about secretly transporting migrants across the US — after dozens of Colombian immigrants recently arrived in the small upstate community of Watertown.

“We write following reports that your administration is actively settling migrants in Upstate New York communities,” upstate Reps. Claudia Tenney and Elise Stefanik — the number three Republican in the US House of Representatives — wrote in a Wednesday letter obtained by The Post.

GOP Congressmen Nick Langworthy, Michael Lawler and Marc Molinaro also signed the message.

The lawmakers cited a shocking Post report that over 30 migrants have been living in the city of Jamestown, located in rural Chautauqua County, since late last year.

Most of the migrants traveled to Jamestown on their own after learning about the safety of the city from fellow border-crossers in El Paso, Texas, several had previously told The Post.

But leaders of the city — which only has a reported population of 28,393 people — are worried that the influx of immigrants will quickly overwhelm Jamestown’s local services and infrastructure, especially because neither the migrants nor the city has received additional state or federal aid.

Over 30 migrants have been living in Jamestown, a city in Upstate New York, since late last year.

Several Colombian migrants said they landed in Jamestown after learning about its safety from fellow border-crossers in El Paso.

Jamestown leaders worry that the small city doesn’t have the resources to support the migrant population.

“[W]e wish to express our outrage at the secrecy with which your administration has and continues to carry out these national relocation operations,” the lawmakers wrote. “This unprecedented influx of migrants into the United States is an obvious sign of your administration’s failed policies at the Southern Border.”

Tenney and Stefanik submitted a list of six demands:

  • The number of illegal migrants that were apprehended at the Southern border and relocated to New York by the government since January 2021;
  • A full list of which New York counties and municipalities the migrants were sent to and which areas can expect migrants to be sent to in the future;
  • Documentation proving executive branch agencies notified New York those counties, municipalities and local law enforcement that migrants would be coming, or an explanation of why the government chose not to do so;
  • Information on how the White House is monitoring the status and locations of the migrants they’ve relocated since January 2021;
  • The whereabouts of every migrant that has been relocated by the government to New York State since January 2021; and
  • A promise that the Biden administration will commit to notifying Tenney and Stefanik’s offices and local officials whenever illegal migrants are relocated to the state.

The pols requested a response from the White House by the end of the month and threatened to take action against the administration if they failed to do so, “including but not limited to withholding additional federal funding.”

“Rather than shifting the burden to the small communities we represent, that are not equipped to handle the influx, the answer is to secure the border,” they said.

Rep. Claudia Tenney penned the letter demanding information from the Biden administration over the migrant influx in New York State.

Rep. Elise Stefanik had sent the White House a letter last year demanding that the government stop sending migrants to the Empire State.

The pols threatened to hold President Biden accountable if he doesn’t reply to their requests.

“Already, your current policies have created a humanitarian and national security catastrophe which undermines the rule of law and empowers human traffickers and criminal gangs.”

The White House did not return an immediate request for comment.

The missive comes almost exactly one year after Stefanik submitted a letter to Biden demanding that he stop sending migrants to New York.

The crisis has only accelerated in the past year, especially in New York City.

At least 41,000 migrants have arrived in the Big Apple from the southern border since the spring, according to City Hall.

Mayor Eric Adams has said that housing and providing services to incoming migrants may cost the Big Apple as much as $2 billion as the city planned to open a sixth emergency shelter in Midtown for migrants.

Video shows lawyer Elliot Blair dancing shortly before death

Elliot Blair was happily dancing the night away hours before he was mysteriously found face-down dead at a Mexican resort.

A video obtained by The Post shows Blair and his wife, Kimberley Williams, having fun and dancing to a live band at Splash Baja restaurant and bar in Rosarito Beach at about 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 13

They were celebrating their first wedding anniversary before the trip took an ugly turn.

Case Barnett, who represents Blair’s family, told The Post the couple had only been at Rosarito three days and were frequent visitors to the hotel and nearby bars and restaurants.

The couple, who both worked at the Orange County Public Defender’s Office, made sure to get their favorite room at Las Rocas Resort and Spa — Room 308 — which was on the second floor of the posh hotel.

After enjoying dinner, dancing and karaoke that Friday, the couple went back to the room at about 11:45 p.m. Williams went straight to bed while Blair took a quick shower, according to the family.

Elliot Blair was happily dancing hours before he was mysteriously found face-down dead at a Mexican resort.

About two hours later, Williams was awakened by the sound of frantic hotel employees directing her to her husband’s lifeless body, which had somehow ended up on the ground floor near an open walkway.

“When she gets down to the body, he’s facedown on the ground,” Barnett said. “She screams, ‘Call the cops! Call an ambulance! He needs an ambulance!’ The employees say they were already there, but left because he was already dead.”

The family said Mexican police who responded to the scene after 1:45 a.m. initially told Williams her husband had injuries to his head but later added they also found a bullet hole.

Blair and his wife, Kim Williams, were celebrating their first wedding anniversary before the trip took an ugly turn.
Provided by the Blair Family

Barnett said a liaison with the coroner’s office contacted the family on Jan. 16 and told them the cause of death was a “trauma to the head” but nothing about a bullet hole. The family has yet to see the coroner’s report or even see Blair’s body, which remains at a mortuary in Rosarito.

The attorney general of Baja California’s version of events is that Blair fell to his death when he went outside to shoo away pigeons outside his hotel room. Officials said Williams told investigators Blair was annoyed by noisy birds, a claim the family has refuted.

Barnett said Williams told the cops birds would roost near their room and Elliot would jokingly coo at the birds, but it was lost in translation.

“I don’t know if the Mexican cops misinterpreted what Kim said or if they extrapolated it,” Barnett said. “There is just confusion everywhere. She 100% unequivocally did not say he was shooing those birds. It just does not make any sense.”

A man who met the couple at Splash Baja told The Post he struck up a conversation with Blair after he ordered an Old Fashioned cocktail at the bar.

“He started telling me how he makes the Old Fashioned and that’s how the conversation started,” said the restaurant patron, who wanted to remain anonymous. “Elliot said that was his favorite drink. And then I started telling him how I made my drink. The bartender then asked Elliot if he wanted one also, but he said, ‘No, I’m already drinking beer and had a shot of Tequila earlier. I don’t want to mix it.’ That was very good of him. He wasn’t there just to drink.”

Baja California police claim that Blair hit his head fatally trying to shoo away pigeons.
Provided by the Blair Family

Blair’s family have insisted neither he nor his wife were drunk that night, and are not big drinkers. The man said he saw the couple each had a beer and did not appear intoxicated.

Blair’s mother, Stella, had hoped to take possession of her son’s body so an independent toxicology test could be completed, but she was told Wednesday the body had already been embalmed. Authorities reportedly told the family the body had to be embalmed before it is allowed back across the border.

Williams has been left reeling as more questions continue to surface in connection to her husbands death, Barnett told The Post.

Blair and Williams were having fun and dancing to a live band at Splash Baja restaurant and bar in Rosarito Beach.
Provided by the Blair Family

The video of Blair and Williams laughing and dancing to the band performing Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Let’s Groove” at the Splash bar serves as a painful and bitter-sweet reminder of the couple’s anniversary celebration.

“They let out a primal scream when Elliot’s mom told them his body was already embalmed,” Barnett said. “It was awful and was nothing like I’ve heard before. There has been so much confusion and all they wanted was to get their own toxicology. I’ve never heard so much pain and screaming. It’s as if Elliot was dead again.

“They specifically were hoping they could clear it and know that he was not drunk. He was not that type of person. And not having a way to know now to clear his name is just devastating.”

Undercover Texas agents pose as migrants to catch smugglers

El Paso, Texas — Wearing baggy blue jeans and hoodies and looking scruffy and unkempt, the state’s elite undercover squad could easily be mistaken for the bedraggled smugglers they are trying to apprehend, or the migrants pouring over the southern border from Mexico.

These specially trained members of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety have perhaps the most dangerous job on the border, acting as double agents and facing certain death if their cover is blown.

Their mission is to blend in with the migrant hordes, identify and apprehend cartel members, human traffickers and drug dealers, as part of the DPS’ efforts to keep criminal elements from entering the US.

The unit is so secretive DPS officials refuse to say how many agents are part of the department, where they specifically operate or allow them to pose for photographs which would reveal their identity, due to concerns for their safety.

“We really can’t say anything,” said Matthew Mull, Major with the DPS’s Criminal Investigation Division in El Paso during The Post’s ride-along with DPS earlier this week.

Members of the CID worked alongside DPS’s pilots to provide them with coordinates to chase down a group of smugglers transporting more than a dozen migrants in an overloaded Jeep Wednesday.

A handful of CID agents in their jeans and hoodies swooped into a stash house and arrested two young smugglers.

The Post’s eyewitness reporter at the raid said: “We could not tell the difference between who were the migrants and who were the agents. It was only after they opened their coats that I saw their badges. None of them spoke.”

Agents for the CID are involved in numerous investigations and agencies on both sides of the border.

Their website states its “personnel collaborate with internal and external stakeholders from across the state and internationally to identify, investigate, disrupt, and/or dismantle drug trafficking, human trafficking, and criminal gang organizations.”

As well as tracking organized crime, a separate arm of the CID handles special investigations, while another offers surveillance, forensics and other support.

The CID agents offer a sharp contrast to their DPS counterparts, who wear tan uniforms and cowboy hats as well as shiny black boots.

Migrants amassed at the southern border

“That’s just the way they like to dress,” Mull told The Post. “It’s typically the way they do business.”

The CID unit was begun during the Second World War and was then known as Criminal Law Enforcement. In 2009, when DPS underwent an overhaul, the unit was renamed with a focus on intelligence gathering and including a mentorship program for state troopers who can opt to train with the unit, which also investigates vehicle theft, Mull said.

Scalpers sue MSG after Knicks, Rangers tix aren’t renewed

No matter who wins this lawsuit, fans will likely lose.

Two dozen Knicks and Rangers season ticket holders — self described “resellers” who glom up tickets and then sell them on StubHub and secondary markets at inflated prices — accuse Madison Square Garden of cutting them off to increase its own profits, according to a Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit.

The plaintiffs, mostly tri-state area residents and one Israeli, say MSG for years willingly sold them ducats, but now that the Rangers are “a perennial playoff contender” and the Knicks “relevant” again, the Garden wants its tickets back.

The Sept. 7 filing has fueled an epic battle between the plaintiffs’ attorneys and MSG. On Friday, the Post reported that nearly 60 lawyers at the commercial law and government relations firm of Davidoff Hutcher & Citron have been banned from Rangers and Knicks games because their clients are suing MSG, new court papers allege.

The plaintiffs said the Knicks are finally “relevant” again.
for the NY POST

In the September case, the scorned scalpers contend “MSG’s end game is to reclaim the tickets, create a monopoly, and reap a windfall by selling the tickets exclusively through its own ‘authorized’ out-of-state reseller,” the Sept. 7 filing says. Currently, face-value tickets can only be purchased directly from Ticketmaster or the Garden’s box office.

“After many years of relying on [the local resellers] to purchase Knicks and Rangers season tickets at exorbitant prices when the teams respective performance and records were abysmal, MSG has in utter bad faith elected to not renew” their season tickets, the suit says.

The 21-page complaint paints the scalpers in a noble light.

Now, face-value tickets can only be purchased from Ticketmaster or the Garden’s box office.
AP

“For years plaintiffs have been loyal to MSG through playoff droughts, postseason
failures, coaching musical chairs, and constant disruptive sideshows. During that same time period, it was MSG who actively solicited plaintiffs’ business, including through the COVID-19 pandemic,” the suits says.

An MSG spokesman countered, “We want our season ticket memberships to be made up of our loyal Knicks and Rangers fans, not professional ticket brokers. This lawsuit is without merit, and we maintain the right to not offer season tickets.”

In the latest salvo, the legal eagles allege MSG declared the historic arena was “banning” the firm’s “attorneys from entering venues owned and operated” by MSG, according to a Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit from Thursday.

It came as a surprise to most of the firm’s team who aren’t involved in the legal brawl with MSG, and who now find themselves “pariahs,” the Thursday filing claims. The suit is asking for an emergency order from a judge to reinstate firm co-founder and managing partner Larry Hutcher’s season tickets and overturn the ban against the firm.

Either way, there is no free lunch for Rangers or Knicks fans.

The plaintiffs also allege that the Rangers are “a perennial playoff contender.”
Charles Wenzelberg / New York Po

A center-ice seat for the Rangers-Tampa Bay Lightning opening-night game on Oct. 11 ran $1,100 if you purchased through MSG-partner Ticketmaster, but upwards of $2,000 on the secondary market. A ticket near the floor at the Knicks’ opening game Oct. 21 vs. the Detroit Pistons will cost you $1,991 if you buy on the secondary market, and $490 through Ticketmaster, according to recent listings.

The Garden’s actions restrict the “existing free market” and will drive up ticket prices, the scalpers claim.

“There is no doubt that the average ticket buyer would be benefited by our success in the lawsuit because it will establish a real market place for the tickets,” said Hutcher, the attorney for the ticket brokers who is now in crosshairs of the latest litigation.

At least one sports junkie wasn’t buying either side’s spiel in the original dispute.

“It’s a lose-lose situation for the fans,” said diehard Knicks follower Michael Alcazar, 55. “It’s hard for me to feel sorry for the [resellers]. In the end, I’m still paying a high mark-up for the tickets and the Garden prices are exorbitant too,” the Queens-bred criminal justice professor said.

The suit seeks unspecified damages.

West Village ‘grifter’ Kate Gladstone evicted after more than three years

The West Village “grifter” who lived rent free for three years in one of NYC’s priciest neighborhoods, partly by exploiting New York’s eviction moratorium, has finally been given the boot.

Kate Gladstone, who also uses the name Katherine Klein, was evicted from owner Valentina Bajada and Heidi Russell’s two-bedroom Barrow Street pad Thursday, in an hours-long spectacle attracting a small crowd of workers and neighbors.

The saga began in June 2019, when Gladstone moved in with her child, paying $2,000 for a room in the apartment on a month-to-month basis. Similar apartments in the neighborhood can rent for nearly $7,000 and up.

Almost as soon as Gladstone moved in, Russell asked her to leave, so she could give the spare room to her own mom, who needed surgery.

But Gladstone refused to budge and stopped paying, according to court records.

Russell went to court to oust Gladstone in December 2019, alleging in legal papers the woman took over the living room, bathroom and kitchen, wrote “bizarre messages directly on the walls,” removed smoke detectors, and accused her of stealing.

Gladstone eventually agreed to leave by March 31, 2020, but got a reprieve when then-Gov. Cuomo issued the COVID-19 eviction moratorium.

In August 2020, a desperate Russell, who spent days wandering the streets with her poodle to avoid Gladstone, sued in a bid to get her out, prompting a front page in The Post.

Gladstone’s face was plastered on posters around the neighborhood, with the phrase “#WestVillageGrifter” and a warning to other residents to “please alert your neighbors.”

Russell tried to change the locks when Gladstone left for a few weeks one summer, only to have a Housing Court judge order her to let the freeloading tenant return.

Gladstone’s behavior only got worse, claimed Russell, who said her unwanted roommate sprayed chemicals, recorded her, and blasted music.

Gladstone, her dog, and her daughter were finally evicted this week.

By July 2021, the court greenlit a warrant to evict Gladstone, but required a status conference first. Gladstone claimed financial hardship, which paused the case for months. In March, Gladstone filed a state Emergency Rental Assistance Program application, which again halted the eviction effort.

On Aug. 5, free of pandemic rules which tied the court’s hands and with Gladstone’s ERAP bid denied, Housing Court Judge Evon M. Asforis ordered the eviction to go forward, noting Gladstone had made life “unbearable” for Russell.

In the three years living there, Gladstone — who has a pending 2019 criminal case for forgery and grand larceny after allegedly stealing an ex’s credit card to pay for hotel rooms — paid only a single month’s rent.

It’s the third West Village home she’s been accused of squatting in over the years.

On Thursday, an hour before city Marshal Robert Renzulli arrived with a locksmith to enforce the 10 a.m. eviction, Gladstone snuck out the building’s back exit, ignoring questions from The Post.

Renzulli entered the apartment to find Gladstone, 46, had left behind her teenaged daughter and tiny dog, a Cavalier King Charles named Happy, as she ostensibly sought yet another reprieve from the courts.

NYPD officers then warned Gladstone to come back for her daughter. Eventually, she returned, shielding her face and refusing to answer questions.

“I have mixed emotions,” Russell said Thursday, as she worried Gladstone would accuse her of stealing her belongings.

Gladstone “has used every angle she can think of to avoid leaving,” Russell and Bajada’s attorney, Arthur Schwartz, wrote in one legal response.

It is not clear if the Thursday eviction is the final chapter: Gladstone is due in court Monday as she again appeals to get back in.

Her lawyer didn’t respond to a message.
