Tom Cruise jumps from helicopter to thank ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ fans

A free-falling thank you!

Tom Cruise knows how to give his fans a proper thank you, taking a solo freefall dive ahead of “Top Gun: Maverick” release on Paramount+ to thank fans of the franchise for making the film a box office smash this past summer.

Cruise, 60, nonchalantly sitting along the outside of a helicopter, took time out from filming “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” parts one and two in South Africa to tell fans how grateful he was for driving the films theater success.

“I didn’t want the year to end without thanking you all for coming out to the theaters and thank you for supporting ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’” Cruise yelled over the blades of the helicopter.

Accompanying Cruise in the air was “Dead Reckoning” director Christopher McQuarrie, who reminded the action star they had to get back to filming.

The “A Few Good Men” star agreed and got into position to jump, but before letting go, he asked McQuarrie if he would be joining him.

“Not on your life. Good luck,” the director said.

“We’ll see ya down there,” Cruise says before fearlessly letting go of the aircraft and entering a freefall.

But, even in mid-air, falling over 100 mph toward earth, Cruise still had more to say about how gracious he was to everyone who came out to see the film in theaters.

“As always, thank you for allowing us to entertain you. It truly is the honor of a lifetime,” he said, all smiles as he fell towards the ocean.

Before running out of altitude, the “Jerry Maguire” star said he had to get “back to work” and wished everyone “a very safe and happy holiday.”

“We’ll see you at the movies,” he finished saying before pushing away from the camera in mid-air and continuing his solo fall down.

“Top Gun: Maverick,” originally supposed to be released in 2019 but was pushed back following all the complex flight scenes and then the global pandemic, was one of Paramount Pictures’ biggest hits of all time, amassing nearly $1.5 billion worldwide.

In May of this year, after the film was released in theaters, Cruise revealed that the film was never planning on making its debut via streaming services despite years of setbacks from filming and the pandemic.

The new film has Cruise reprising the role of Maverick, who returns to the elite aviation training program to train the next generation of flyers, including Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Monica Barbaro, Greg Tarzan Davis, Danny Ramirez, Lewis Pullman and Jay Ellis. Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm and Val Kilmer, reprising his role from the original, also star.

“Top Gun: Maverick” will be released on Paramount+ on Dec. 22, 2022.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle demand royal summit, apology

They are making a royal fuss about it.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle demanded Saturday to have a royal summit with the entire British Royal family and push for an apology regarding the alleged treatment at their hands, reports The Sunday Times.

Following their bombshell Netflix documentary “Harry & Meghan” — which dropped numerous bombshells — the former royals said they want to “sit down with the royal family”  and address their grievances.

“Nothing like that was ever done when Harry and Meghan raised various concerns — no meeting, formal apology or taking responsibility or accountability,” a source close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said. “That is hard to swallow — 100% yes they’d like to have a meeting.”

According to palace insiders, the former royals are attempting to reconcile with King Charles and the rest of the family ahead of his coronation in May — which Harry and Meghan are expected to attend.

Kumail Nanjiani reveals cut scene with ‘gorgeous Harry Styles’

A hot-and-bothered Kumail Nanjiani has fallen victim to Harry Styles’ “eternal” gaze.

Nanjiani, 44, revealed Tuesday that he and the pop star had filmed an alternative post-credit scene from the one that appeared in Marvel’s 2021 action flick “Eternals.”

“We actually shot a different scene with Harry Styles, cause the ending now, my character’s not in that scene, but we shot a version where I was with him,” said Nanjiani while appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “And it was a very different sort of post-credit sequence.”

In the final cut of the film, Nanjiani’s character, Kingo, is abducted alongside Sersi (Gemma Chan) and Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry), prompting the arrival of Eros (Styles) and his companion Pip (Patton Oswalt) to arrive and lay the groundwork for a sequel.

“We didn’t really talk. We just sort of made eyes at each other from afar,” added Nanjiani. “No, it was sort of… I don’t really know what I’m allowed to say…”

The “Welcome to Chippendales” star also recalled his first reaction when he heard the “One Direction” alum was suiting up with the cast.

“I started hearing rumblings of it here and there and I thought it was bulls–t.  I was like, ‘The guy from One Direction? No way,’” he joked. “And then you show up to work one day and there’s gorgeous Harry Styles. ‘Hey, mate!’ And I’m like, ‘Hey? What are you doing here, man?’”

Despite its box office success, Nanjiani said that he was “bummed” that comic book fans panned the film.

“I love ‘Eternals.’ I think it’s fantastic. It did bum me out that it was sort of divisive. Chloe made a very, very ambitious, huge movie that’s very different from most comic book movies. She went for a really, really high bar,” said the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” actor.

“Of course it would’ve been great if every single person on Earth loved it, but I love it and I still think, at some point, people are going to re-watch that movie and realize that there’s a lot more to it than they gave it credit for.”

Currently, it is unclear if Nanjiani will return to his role — though he has said he hopes he can.

‘I’m on fire … Oh, my God’

Jay Leno is recounting his dramatic rescue by a close friend when he suffered severe burns in a horrifying freak accident last month.

The funnyman and car fanatic revealed what caused the fiery explosion in the 72-year-old former “Tonight Show” host’s garage, where the incident happened on Nov. 12.

“It was a 1907 White Steam Car. The fuel line was clogged, so I was underneath it,” he said of working on the vintage car — alongside close friend David Killackey — during a talk with “Today” anchor Hoda Kotb. “It sounded clogged and I said, ‘Blow some air through the line,’ and so he did.”

Leno said the fuel line made a noise, “and suddenly, boom, I got a face full of gas.

“And then the pilot light jumped and my face caught on fire,” he recalled.

Luckily, Leno said Killackey acted fast.

Jay Leno spent 10 days in a Los Angles burn center.
TODAY

“I said to my friend, I said, ‘Dave, I’m on fire.’ And Dave’s like, ‘All right.’ I said, ‘No, Dave, I’m on fire.’ And then, ‘Oh, my God.’ Dave, my friend, pulled me out and jumped on top of me and kind of smothered the fire,” Leno recalled.

Leno was taken to Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles, where he was treated for third-degree burns on his face, chest and hands during a 10-day stay. Leno also received skin grafts and another surgical procedure.

Cameras captured Leno being treated in a hyperbaric chamber.

But he was all smiles in a photo with clinic staff on Nov. 21 when he was released from the center. Leno wasted no time getting back to his classic cars as he was spotted cruising around Los Angles in several of his whips the very next day.

He even performed a comedy set to a sold-out crowd at Comedy Magic Club in California’s Hermosa Beach just over two weeks after the incident. He had some trouble parking, though, and hit a cop car in the process.

Leno and Kotb’s full conversation will air Wednesday on “Today.”

How to watch and what to know

It’s that time of year again: when Snoopy and Pikachu float down Sixth Avenue and Santa makes a special appearance to signify the official start of the Christmas season.

The 96th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade returns to New York City this week with five new floats and four new balloons to entertain audiences of all ages.

Quite a lot has changed since the first parade took place in 1924. Not only will people be able to watch the event from the comfort of their own homes on network TV, but various streaming services will also provide a front-row seat to the happenings.

Over 3.5 million people in NYC and more than 50 million viewers at home typically watch the parade, which utilizes 5,000 volunteers to get the show on the road.

Even during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the parade went on — but with some radical changes to ensure social distancing. Unlike normal years, it was tailored just for the TV audience, but this year’s celebration is free to go on without hesitation.

“Today” show anchors Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Al Roker are slated to return as hosts of the parade. However, Roker has been absent from “Today” and is currently “on the way to recovery” after he was hospitalized with blood clots in his leg and lungs two weeks ago.

When is the 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade takes place on the national holiday, which falls on Thursday, Nov. 24, this year, at 9 a.m. EST. The show officially ends at noon.

How can I watch the parade and is it available to stream?

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will air on both NBC and CBS. It will also be available to stream live on many subscription services, including Peacock, Paramount+, Hulu Live, Sling TV, DirecTV Stream and YouTube TV.

What’s the parade route and can I watch it in person?

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade route runs 2.5 miles, from 77th Street and Central Park West, south to 34th Street-Herald Square.

Tickets are not needed to watch the procession in person, but it’s best to avoid watching on Sixth Avenue between 34th and 38th streets, and on West 34th Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues, as the national television broadcast limits viewing there.

Those who hope to be near the cameras often show up extra early, hours before the show begins, for the perfect vantage point. It’s recommended to show up “no later than 6 a.m.” for coveted spots.

Will there be any special guests and performers?

Adam Devine, Sarah Hyland and Flula Borg of “Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin,” Betty Who, Big Time Rush, Jordin Sparks, Fitz and the Tantrums, Blanco Brown, country musician Cam, Dionne Warwick, Gloria, Sasha and Emily Estefan, Joss Stone and Kirk Franklin will all be on floats.

Miss America Emma Broyles, Paula Abdul, Sean Paul, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and Ziggy Marley will also be there.

Mariah Carey will also fulfill her “childhood dream” and open for Santa Claus at the end of the parade.

James Cameron says he slammed Fox exec who ‘flipped out’ over ‘Avatar’ runtime

James Cameron had some stern words for one particular movie exec who took issue with the controversial runtime of his 2009 blockbuster “Avatar.”

The multi-Oscar-winning filmmaker, 68, recalled a particular conversation that took place with a Fox executive who “begged” him to make the 162-minute epic shorter.

Speaking to GQ ahead of the highly-anticipated sequel “Avatar: The Way of Water” release, Cameron said he told the boss to “get the f– out my office” when he was told to cut his record-breaking film down to a shorter runtime.

Cameron said the exec, who “who will go unnamed, because this is a really negative review,” approached him with a “stricken cancer-diagnosis expression” after an early screening of the film.

“I said something I’ve never said to anybody else in the business,” Cameron recalled, telling the exec, “‘I think this movie is going to make all the f—ing money. And when it does, it’s going to be too late for you to love the film. The time for you to love the movie is today.’”

He went on, “‘So I’m not asking you to say something that you don’t feel, but just know that I will always know that no matter how complimentary you are about the movie in the future when it makes all the money’—and that’s exactly what I said, in caps, ALL THE MONEY, not some of the money, all the f—ing money. I said, ‘You can’t come back to me and compliment the film or chum along and say, “Look what we did together.”‘ You won’t be able to do that.’”

“At that point, that particular studio executive flipped out and went bug s— on me. And I told him to get the f— out of my office. And that’s where it was left,” Cameron added.

The film ultimately broke multiple records with its $77,025,481 domestic opening weekend, according to Box Office Mojo. It went on to gross $3 billion worldwide.

Elsewhere in the interview, Cameron revealed that “Avatar: The Way of Water” will have to be the “third or fourth highest-grossing film in history” just to break even.

He admitted the film was “very f–ing” expensive to make, and he has described the project as the “worst business case in movie history.”

Speaking about how the film could be profitable, he told the outlet, “You have to be the third or fourth highest-grossing film in history. That’s your threshold. That’s your break even.”

The franchise’s four sequels have an expected budget of around $1 billion. It hits theaters on Dec. 16, arriving 13 years after the original’s 2009 release.

Fun songs, but plot is Bard to love

The new Broadway musical “& Juliet” is “Six” minus five.

Like that latter original pop-music-packed show did with the sextet of spurned wives of Henry VIII, this jukebox Pixie Stick, which opened Thursday night, has one of William Shakespeare’s ingenues, Juliet Capulet, reclaim her tragic story from her BF Romeo.

Theater review

2 hours, 30 minutes, with one intermission. Stephen Sondheim Theatre, 124 W. 43rd St.

The 21st century girl-power revisions begin at opening night of “Romeo and Juliet” in 1597 London, when Shakespeare’s irritated wife, Anne Hathaway, played by the very funny Betsy Wolfe, intervenes. Why, she asks, does Juliet have to die?

“Maybe she doesn’t kill herself just because he killed himself,” she insists before singing “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys and making her husband, played by Stark Sands, redo his tragedy.

Instead, as Anne demands, Juliet (Lorna Courtney) will run away with best friends May (Justin David Sullivan, the most emotionally effective performer), who’s questioning their gender; April (Wolfe), a character designed by Anne to insert herself into the silly story; and the comedy relief, nurse Angelique (Melanie La Barrie), to ooh-la-la Paris to go wild and find a hot new guy. And the Shakespeare frame story gets lamer as the show goes on.

Stark Sands and Betsy Wolfe play William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway going through a marital spat in “& Juliet” on Broadway.
Matthew Murphy

This sporadically fun musical from — where else! — Great Britain with a loony book by David West Read suggests this idea is somehow very feminist; that taking a dagger for your poisoned man is the ultimate failure of the Bechdel test. A bit self-righteous coming from a show that includes “I Kissed a Girl and I Liked It” by Katy Perry, dontcha think?

The key to enjoying yourself at “& Juliet” — and it is, indeed, an empty-headed good time — is to ignore the plot entirely and pretend you’re at a concert. And to have the bartender fill your souvenir sippy cup right to the rim with your booze of choice.

Making projecting your mind to MSG easy is the suite of pop songs by Max Martin, the producer responsible for boffo hits sung by Britney Spears, Perry, the Backstreet Boys, Céline Dion and others. Many of those radio favorites are crammed in here. Martin had a lot of No. 1 singles, but his bounty — narratively, emotionally, musically — is not as boundless as the sea.

Romeo (Ben Jackson Walker) and Juliet (Lorna Courtney, center) have unfinished business.
Matthew Murphy

“& Juliet” is a millennial-seeking missile aimed at audience members, such as myself, who grew up on Martin’s catchy tunes. And those nostalgic memories are surely why the phenomenal young cast is visibly enjoying themselves a lot more than your usual company of “Jersey Boys” does.

But unlike the substantial story arcs of ABBA songs used in “Mamma Mia!” or the much more artful pop of “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” (Elton John, David Bowie, Lady Gaga) a few blocks away, Martin’s music is frustratingly vague and static. With 29 of his songs strung together and orchestrated to sound roughly the same, the effect can be mind-numbing.

To help the score make a lick of sense in context, much of the show, energetically directed by Luke Sheppard, is set in the nightclub-like castle of Lance DuBois (Paulo Szot), whose cute son François (Philippe Arroyo) is pursuing both Juliet and May.

A flirty Juliet continuously mispronounces his name as “Frankie DeBoy,” a stupid joke that dumbs down her character solely to enable a forced boy band megamix later on.

Lance (Paulo Szot) and Angelique (Melanie La Barrie) rekindle an old romance.
Matthew Murphy

Fifty-three-year-old Szot, by the way, is the unexpected best part of this confetti cannon of youth. Hearing the same soaring baritone that he brought to “Some Enchanted Evening” in “South Pacific” in 2008 used on a boudoir duet of “Teenage Dream” and “Break Free” with La Barrie is wildly funny.

The rest of the show rarely is. Sometimes a song title will get a giggle, like “Since U Been Gone” when it’s trotted out as Juliet is shocked to see Romeo again. However, writer Read leans too hard on groaner dad jokes. Sands’ Shakespeare actually says, “Where there’s a Will, there’s a way.” Out, damned line!

Juliet’s future is also complicated by the surprise return of Romeo (Ben Jackson Walker, but played by puppy dog Daniel Maldonado at my performance). He belts out Bon Jovi’s “It’s My Life,” which is a much-needed rock break from all the bubblegum.

François (Philippe Arroyo, left) and May (Justin David Sullivan) are caught in the middle of an unexpected love triangle.
Matthew Murphy

Courtney makes a kind, sometimes-geeky heroine who fabulously wails Perry’s “Roar.”

But as soon as she’s done, and we are busy wiping away the pointless confetti from our blazers and frocks, we wonder of the entire second act: “What just happened?” Doesn’t matter.

In Shakespeare’s original play, Romeo says, “O teach me how I should forget to think.”

“& Juliet” will teach you, Romeo. And all of us, too.

Jimmy Fallon addresses #RIPJIMMYFALLON on the ‘Tonight Show’

He’s Alive, He’s Alive!

Jimmy Fallon returned to the “Tonight Show” on Wednesday after it was rumored across Twitter he died the night before.

#RIPJIMMYFALLON was the second-highest trending hashtag on Twitter Tuesday night, but Fallon, 48, made the tag look foolish 24 hours later as he was dancing and singing in studio 6B.

After being introduced on stage by announcer Steve Higgins, Fallon joined The Roots and a choir dressed in white regalia for a church-like singalong of his revival.

The comedian ended the singing by claiming he wouldn’t leave until his job on earth was finished.

During his opening monologue, Fallon poked fun at other trending topics by adding his “death” into it.

“When they heard I died, Ticketmaster kicked me out of line for Taylor Swift tickets,” Fallon told the audience.

He also took the chance to take a dig at Donald Trump’s White House run saying, “When I heard Trump was running again, I said over my dead body.”

Later in the show, Fallon took a few moments to discuss how he found out he “died,” while out to dinner with his wife Nancy Juvonen. He believed the trend started based on a joke with Twitter users sharing images of different late-night hosts.

“They didn’t think it was going to take off like it did,” Fallon said. “But then it just took off. People started believing it. It’s just odd.”

Even though he has gone through a death hoax before, Fallon still doesn’t know how to handle them and joked he didn’t hear from concerned family and friends.

“I didn’t hear anything from (Justin) Timberlake, nothing, I expect flowers tomorrow,” Fallon told Higgins.

Fallon later asked Twitter CEO Elon Musk to help mitigate the damage the hashtag was creating. Instead, Musk took a jab at his company by questioning whether Fallon was real or a “bot.”

“First of all, I’m not going to die,” Fallon said during his show. “I’m very healthy, have a lot to live for, and have two little girls. I will live for a long time, so you don’t have to worry about me.”

Mike Tindall recalls ripping pants during ‘slut drop’ in front of mother-in-law Princess Anne

Embarrassing yourself in front of your in-laws is not uncommon, but Mike Tindall’s story may just take the crown.

The former rugby World Cup winner, who is currently appearing on the hit British TV show “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!” made a shocking revelation about one encounter with his mother-in-law, who happens to be a senior member of the royal family.

The ex-athlete, who is married to Zara Tindall, née Phillips — daughter of Princess Anne, who is the only daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II — recalled turning red-cheeked after “slut dropping” in front of the royal.

Speaking during Monday’s episode of the show, Tindall said the blunder happened at his wife’s 30th birthday party, which was 70s-themed.

“I was dancing on the dance floor, I had like flares on, full outfit but it was quite tight, nothing ever fits – rugby player’s bum and legs – so I was dancing with my mother-in-law and I did a slut drop in front of my mother-in-law,” he remembered.

“Ripped my trousers, straight in front of her. It happened to be that the boxers that I had on at that time said ‘nibble my nuts.’”

“As I’ve turned round, she’s gone, ‘I’d rather not.’ I’ve gone, ‘I’m going,’ and walked off,” he added.

Tindall married Zara in 2011, and they welcomed three children together: daughters Mia Grace, born in 2014, and Lena Elizabeth, who was born in 2018. Their son, Lucas Philip, was born in 2021.

Mike Tindall poses in a photo for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Mike Tindall and Princess Anne watch World Champion Gatcombe Horse Trials on Sept. 17, 2006, in Gatcombe, England.

Zara, the 20th in line for the British throne, was born in 1981. The equestrian is the only daughter of Anne and Captain Mark Philips.
