Ferrari Goes Pro-Crypto, Decides to Accept Bitcoin, ETH, USDC Payments for Its Cars

Ferrari, in a bold pro-crypto move, has decided to accept payments for its luxury cars in the form of Bitcoin, Ether, and USD Coin in the US. The Italian automaker analysed market demands and dealer requests that resulted in this development. The brand is also looking to engage with a younger generation of buyers, many of whom are exploring investments in digital assets, by allowing crypto payments. In the coming months, Ferrari could begin accepting crypto payments in Europe as well.

Enrico Galliera, the chief marketing and commercial officer of Ferrari, confirmed the development over the weekend in an interview with Reuters.

BitPay, an app that lets merchants accept crypto payments, has been chosen by Ferrari as its payment gateway that will convert crypto payments into fiat currencies for Ferrari dealers in the US. The platform will also analyse the paid cryptocurrencies to detect if they originated from illicit activities like theft, scam, or tax evasion.

The carmaker is also not looking to levy any extra charges for people choosing to pay for their car purchases via cryptocurrencies. Ferrari’s pro-crypto move has ignited a frenzy among members of the global crypto community on X.

As of now, the automaker has not specified if all models of Ferrari or just select models will be available for purchase via crypto.

This, however, is not the first time that a high-end, luxury car company has opened payments in crypto.

In early 2021, Elon Musk’s Tesla was accepting Bitcoin payments for select products and services. Musk had also discussed about opening payments in DOGE for the EV at the time. Tesla soon discontinued its Bitcoin payments owing to the harmful impact on the environment that Bitcoin mining entails.

In fact, Ferrari also has a link to crypto assets. In a bid to engage with new-age fans and reward loyalists with digital souvenirs, Ferrari had partnered with blockchain firm Velas in 2021. The deal however, fell out in January this year due to lack of participation from the carmaker, and because of the crypto slump that had struck Velas in the belly of its business at the time.

In India as well, the Mahindra and Mahindra company is considering BTC payments in the coming times, CEO Anand Mahindra had revealed in April 2023.

SUV crashes through second floor of California home

This takes car accidents to a new level.

An SUV crashed into a northern California home over the weekend and became lodged in the second-floor roof, authorities said.

Photos of the Sunday evening crash shared by the California Fire Nevada Yuba Placer Unit show the white vehicle resting amid debris on the carport roof of a residence near Colfax, about 45 miles outside of Sacramento.

The vehicle was severely damaged, as was most of the roof and a second-floor window.

Firefighters and other responders worked to stabilize the carport before extricating the vehicle’s occupant, Cal Fire wrote.

Pacific Gas & Electric also shut off power to the area during the risky rescue, WCSC reported.

While the driver was hospitalized, there were no reported injuries to occupants of the home or on-scene workers, Cal Fire said.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated.

Nissan recalls 800K Rogue SUVs for defect affecting engine

Nissan is recalling more than 809,000 small SUVs in the US and Canada because a key problem can cause the ignition to shut off while they’re being driven.

The recall covers certain Rogues from the 2014 through 2020 model years, as well as Rogue Sports from 2017 through 2022.

Nissan says the SUVs have jackknife folding keys that may not stay fully open. If driven with the key partially folded, a driver could touch the fob, inadvertently turning off the engine.

This can cause loss of engine power and power brakes, and the air bags might not inflate in a crash.

The company says it’s not aware of any crashes or injuries caused by the problem.

Nissan hasn’t come up with a fix yet. Owners will be notified in March with an interim letter telling them not to attach anything else to the key ring. Then they’ll get another letter telling them to take their SUVs in for repairs. The automaker says owners with keys that won’t stay in the open position should contact their dealers.

New Mercedes-Benz has TikTok livestream for influencers

This car will be fueling Influencers’ clout.

Mercedes-Benz revealed a brand-new E-series sedan on Wednesday that would allow drivers to film TikTok videos and access other apps while on the road, reports The Washington Post.

“Customers can look forward to a particularly immersive entertainment experience in the new E‑Class,” Mercedes-Benz said in a statement. “Music, games and streaming content can be experienced in the car with almost all the senses.”

TikTok also issued its own statement.

“As we aim to expand that experience for our users, we’re excited to partner with Mercedes-Benz to introduce immersive in-car entertainment, which will give our community more opportunities to enjoy the content they love,” said TikTok’s director of distribution business development David Saidden.

According to the car company, the new automobile will feature massive touch screens that will allow passengers to watch movies, tv shows, play games or explore various apps.

Vehicle technology specialist Tom Leggett explained how the driver would be protected from being distracted on the road.

“The Mercedes E-Class will be fitted with the latest Driver Monitoring System to prevent the risk of distraction for the driver,” explained Leggett to the Daily Mail. “A camera (usually in the driver’s display) analyses the driver’s eye movements and can detect whether the eyes are looking at the front passenger screen.”

“If this is the case the brightness of the passenger screen is reduced, and a warning issued to the driver,” continued Leggett.”Additionally, the passenger display has ‘dual light control (DLC)’ that prevents dynamic content such as films from being seen peripherally by the person behind the wheel.”

The car would also allow drivers to take selfies — while the car is stationary.

“Customers can look forward to a particularly immersive entertainment experience in the new E‑Class,” Mercedes-Benz said in a statement. “Music, games and streaming content can be experienced in the car with almost all the senses.”

“When the vehicle is stationary, the driver can participate in online video conferences via e.g. Webex, and take personal photos and videos,” stated the car giant.

The car also allows drivers to experience music in a whole new way.

“Pieces of music and the sound from films or apps can be, felt and now also ‘seen’,” said Mercedes-Benz. “For example, fast sequences of beats can cause rapid light changes, while flowing rhythms can create softly merging lighting moods.”

According to Mercedes, the vehicle will be installed with various programs to ensure the driver’s safety.

The car also boasts “soothing sounds,” “activating light” and “mobilizing massage” and an anti-motion sickness program for those who TikTok on the go.

Several online users rolled in with their own opinions.

“Seems like a bad idea,” tweeted one person.

“No thank you,” said another.

“Maybe giant interactive screens and other distracting features shouldn’t be installed in two-ton death machines,” chimed in a third person.

Mercedes-Benz’s latest creation is set to drive off the assembly line this summer in Europe before making its way to the US in the fall.

The announcement comes just as policymakers are seeking to potentially ban apps like TikTok, citing threats to national security.

‘I’m on fire … Oh, my God’

Jay Leno is recounting his dramatic rescue by a close friend when he suffered severe burns in a horrifying freak accident last month.

The funnyman and car fanatic revealed what caused the fiery explosion in the 72-year-old former “Tonight Show” host’s garage, where the incident happened on Nov. 12.

“It was a 1907 White Steam Car. The fuel line was clogged, so I was underneath it,” he said of working on the vintage car — alongside close friend David Killackey — during a talk with “Today” anchor Hoda Kotb. “It sounded clogged and I said, ‘Blow some air through the line,’ and so he did.”

Leno said the fuel line made a noise, “and suddenly, boom, I got a face full of gas.

“And then the pilot light jumped and my face caught on fire,” he recalled.

Luckily, Leno said Killackey acted fast.

Jay Leno spent 10 days in a Los Angles burn center.
TODAY

“I said to my friend, I said, ‘Dave, I’m on fire.’ And Dave’s like, ‘All right.’ I said, ‘No, Dave, I’m on fire.’ And then, ‘Oh, my God.’ Dave, my friend, pulled me out and jumped on top of me and kind of smothered the fire,” Leno recalled.

Leno was taken to Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles, where he was treated for third-degree burns on his face, chest and hands during a 10-day stay. Leno also received skin grafts and another surgical procedure.

Cameras captured Leno being treated in a hyperbaric chamber.

But he was all smiles in a photo with clinic staff on Nov. 21 when he was released from the center. Leno wasted no time getting back to his classic cars as he was spotted cruising around Los Angles in several of his whips the very next day.

He even performed a comedy set to a sold-out crowd at Comedy Magic Club in California’s Hermosa Beach just over two weeks after the incident. He had some trouble parking, though, and hit a cop car in the process.

Leno and Kotb’s full conversation will air Wednesday on “Today.”

Ford recalls 518K SUVs in US over possible fuel leak, fire risk

The Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 500,000 sport utility vehicles across the United States over fire risks resulting from a possibly cracked fuel injector.

Ford, the second-largest car manufacturer in the U.S., said that while the likelihood of fires was rare, it was compelled to offer the recall after being informed of at least 20 such incidents. The recall covers the company’s Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs manufactured between the 2020 and 2023 model years.

According to the company, a cracked fuel injector can cause fuel or fuel vapor to accumulate and result in a fire under the vehicle’s hood. Repairs are not yet available, but Ford is working on a software update that will alert owners if their vehicle’s fuel injector is compromised.

“If a pressure drop in the fuel rail is detected, engine power will automatically be reduced to minimize any risk, while also allowing customers to drive to a safe location and stop the vehicle and arrange for service,” the company said in a statement.

Despite the recall, Ford is not urging consumers to stop driving the models in question. Instead, the company says that if drivers suspect there is a problem with their vehicle, they should take it to a dealership and have it inspected.

In cases where there is a problem, Ford will replace the cracked fuel injector. The company is also extending its warranties to cover a cracked fuel injector for up to 15 years.

‘RHONJ’ star Dolores Catania’s stolen Porsche found ‘totaled’

Dolores Catania’s stolen Porsche has been found — but it was destroyed.

The “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star’s boyfriend, Paul “Paulie” Connell, tells Page Six exclusively that police discovered Catania’s smashed car in Linden.

“The car was involved in a chase and the occupants of the car crashed into a pole,” Connell says. “We believe there were arrests made when the car finally came to a stop, but not sure of the exact details.”

He adds, “The car is totaled. It looks like possibly one of the occupants was injured — or two of them.”

Catania, 51, went to see if the thieves had left any of her belongings behind, but Connell reveals there was “nothing left” in the vehicle.

“On the flip side, we are currently out car shopping,” Connell says. “She wants to make sure that people know, always lock your cars and keep your key fobs stored in a safe place.”

Connell also shared with us footage of the totaled car that shows just how smashed the front of the Porsche was.

Page Six broke the news that Catania’s luxe car was stolen from Connell’s home in Edgewater, NJ, last weekend.

“Dolores is determined to find her car with the help of authorities,” an insider told Page Six exclusively, adding that a police report had been filed in Bergen County.

“She is aggravated but also really shaken up over the fact that someone would steal it right out of Paulie’s driveway,” the source continued.

“On the flip side, we are currently out car shopping,” Catania’s boyfriend, Paulie, tells Page Six.

Catania’s ex-boyfriend David Principe purchased the car for her — a gesture that became a point of controversy amongst the “RHONJ” cast during Season 11.

“He didn’t give her a ring, so she didn’t move in [with him], but he just got her a Porsche,” Jackie Goldschneider said to the group, to which her husband, Evan, quipped back, “It means, ‘I’m just going to get you a car instead of a ring.’”

John DeLorean’s daughter, Kat DeLorean, launching Detroit-built sports car next year

DeLorean is back.

Again.

Kat DeLorean, daughter of famed automotive executive John DeLorean, has announced the launch of a new car company called DeLorean Next Generation Motors (DNG Motors), that is aiming to bring a modern take on her father’s eponymous sports car to market.

The company says that the sleek gullwing two-seater will be built in Detroit, with the first production version set to be revealed late next year.

The news comes after this year’s debut of the Texas-based DeLorean Motor Company’s Alpha5 four-seat car. The new DMC started out as a DeLorean parts sales and restoration outfit that acquired the original brand’s name and trademarks.

DeLorean, who is a cybersecurity engineer, has said she does not approve of the company’s use of her father’s name, but his estate previously reached a settlement with the company over the rights.

DNG has released images of its car, the Model-JZD, which was named as a tribute to John Z. DeLorean and penned by Spanish designer Angel Guerra with inspiration from the classic DMC-12.

A company representative told Fox News Digital that it was designed around an electric powertrain, but that it is in the process of determining the best option for the final version.

It will follow what it said was John DeLorean’s goal of developing “safer, more reliable, more efficient affordable automobiles.”

The first iteration of the DeLorean Motor Company built approximately 9,000 cars at its Belfast, Northern Ireland, factory from 1981 until 1982, when it declared bankruptcy following the arrest of John DeLorean on drug trafficking charges, for which he was later acquitted.

DeLorean Motor Company has not yet responded to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
