Mission: Impossible 8 Delayed to 2025 Due to Hollywood Actors’ Strike

Mission: Impossible 8 has been delayed by nearly a year. Paramount Pictures and Skydance have pushed the highly anticipated Tom Cruise-led spy-thriller to May 23, 2025, from its original release date of June 28, 2024. The move is attributed to the ongoing actors’ strike, which has caused the film and several other major studios to halt production. Other movies will share the same fate if the strike isn’t resolved within the next few weeks. Furthermore, the Christopher McQuarrie-directed sequel to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is getting a name change — initially Dead Reckoning Part Two — albeit it will serve as a direct continuation of the 2023 film.

A good chunk — 40 percent — of filming on Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two was done prior to the strike, but now, the crew will have to wait until the actors’ strike is over. Several major studios including Warner Bros. delayed their 2023 release dates as well, with Dune: Part Two being the biggest one, whose star-studded cast cannot take part in any promotional work or interviews due to the ongoing strike. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, sequel to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, was taken off its March 2024 release window, as its actors aren’t allowed to provide voiceovers for the characters. As per The Hollywood Reporter, the eighth Mission: Impossible movie will be filmed using IMAX cameras, with plans to screen it in IMAX theatres for three full weeks. This is big for Cruise and McQuarrie, whose previous film Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One didn’t get to run as long, due to Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer securing IMAX theatres around the globe.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One was unable to surpass its predecessor, MI Fallout, at the worldwide box office, collecting an impressive $567.5 million (about Rs. 4,719 crore). Released on July 12, the film was primed for success until a week later Barbie and Oppenheimer arrived in theatres on July 21, dominating the box office and drawing large crowds, thanks in part to the ‘Barbenheimer‘ phenomenon. Mission: Impossible 7 pits Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his spy crew on a globe-trotting quest to track down a bioweapon before it falls into the wrong hands. Making things tough for him are the former IMF director Eugene Kittridge (Henry Czerny) from the first film, the terrorist Gabriel (Esai Morales), and French assassin Paris (Pom Klementieff). Hayley Atwell, a new addition to the cast, plays an ambiguous thief.

Paramount is also delaying A Quiet Place: Day One by three months, moving from March 8, 2024, to June 28, essentially occupying Mission: Impossible 8’s original slot. Billed as a spin-off to John Krasinski’s 2018 horror film, it’s expected to finally show the alien invasion that plunged earth into dead silence. It stars Lupita Nyong’o (Black Panther), Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things), and Alex Wolff (The Pig). The studio has, meanwhile, moved up Krasinski’s Ryan Reynolds-led film IF from May 24 to May 17, 2024. An untitled animated SpongeBob SquarePants movie has also been postponed from May 23, 2025, to December 19, 2025.

Mission: Impossible 8 is now slated to release May 23, 2025, in theatres worldwide.

Tom Cruise celebrates Michael Caine’s 90th birthday after ditching Oscars

While he skipped this year’s Oscars festivities, Tom Cruise couldn’t pass up an opportunity to celebrate Michael Caine’s 90th birthday.

The 60-year-old “Top Gun: Maverick” actor was noticeably absent from the 2023 Academy Awards on Sunday, despite the blockbuster film being nominated for six awards.

But as the celebrities got suited and booted for Hollywood’s biggest night, Cruise headed across the pond to attend Caine’s birthday celebration in the UK.

Joining the likes of comedian David Walliams and Caine’s wife, Shakira, 75, Cruise was snapped grinning at an intimate dinner for the big day.

“Happy 90th Birthday to the legendary Sir Michael Caine,” Walliams wrote on Instagram alongside a series of pictures from the dinner.

Caine appeared to be healthy and in good spirits as he continues to recover from major spinal surgery to treat spinal stenosis — a condition caused by the narrowing of the spinal canal, resulting in back and neck pain.

The two-time Oscar winner, who relies on the help of a walking frame, previously spoke out about his back issues in 2021 — sparking speculation that he was set to retire.

Other snaps from his birthday showed Cruise wrapping his arm around the veteran actor as Walliams joined them for a snap.

The scaled-back affair featured a handful of A-listers including celebrity chef Ruth Rogers and an appetizing chocolate cake and a lot of red wine.

Cruise was MIA at Sunday’s ceremony because he reportedly wanted to avoid an “awkward run-in” with his ex-wife Nicole Kidman, 55, whom he divorced more than 20 years ago.

“Tom was not there because she was there, and he did not want a run-in,” a source told the Daily Mail on Monday.

Comedian David Walliams shared snaps from the intimate dinner on his Instagram.

But insiders close to Cruise told the outlet that his absence was “not personal” and instead the result of scheduling issues.

The Post has contacted representatives for Cruise and Kidman for comment.

The prolific duo married on Dec. 24, 1990, and adopted two children — Isabella, now 29, and Connor, now 27, who are both reportedly members of the Church of Scientology, like their dad, Cruise.

Caine’s wife Shakira also joined in on the celebration.

Cruise filed for divorce in February 2001, citing “irreconcilable difference” after allegedly walking out on Kidman that same year.

Cruise went on to marry fellow actress Katie Holmes, 44, in 2006 before their divorce in 2012.

Meanwhile, Kidman married country musician Keith Urban, 55, in 2006.

The happy couple shares two daughters: Sunday Rose, 14, and Faith Margaret, 12.

Steven Spielberg says Tom Cruise’s ‘Top Gun’ sequel ‘saved Hollywood’s a–‘

From one legend to another.

Hollywood director Steven Spielberg wasted no time giving Tom Cruise his well-deserved flowers at the Academy Awards luncheon on Monday.

Pulling Cruise in for a hug, Spielberg told the 60-year-old actor that he “saved Hollywood’s a–” with his hit blockbuster “Top Gun: Maverick” — which scooped up a Best Picture nomination.

“You saved Hollywood’s a–, and you might have saved theatrical distribution,” Spielberg tells Cruise in the clip. “Seriously, ’Maverick’ might have saved the entire theatrical industry.”

The film, a sequel to Cruise’s 1986 classic, grossed an eye-watering $1.48 billion worldwide since its release in May last year. It also racked up an impressive 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The pair, who previously worked together on “Minority Report” and “War of the Worlds,” shared the sweet exchange at the star-studded event, during which Cruise debuted a striking new look.

Cruise’s film, which he didn’t want to make it. earned an impressive six Oscar nominations

Director Joseph Kosinski previously revealed he had just 30 minutes to convince Cruise to star in “Top Gun: Maverick.”

“Top Gun” Maverick” was Cruise’s first film to rake in $100 million opening weekend.

“So I read the script, I had some ideas, and Jerry [Bruckheimer] liked those ideas. He said, ‘You know what, you gotta go pitch this to Tom directly,’” Kosinski told Polygon. “We flew to Paris, where Tom was shooting ‘Mission: Impossible,’ we got about a half-hour of his time between setups.”

“And I basically had 30 minutes to pitch this film, which I didn’t realize when we were flying over. But when I got there, I found that Tom really didn’t want to make another ‘Top Gun,’” he explained.

“It’s one of those moments as a director, you have one on every film, where you’re on the spot to make a case for why this movie should be made. I had 30 minutes to do it.”

Three-time Oscar winner Spielberg, 76, is also celebrating awards season in style. He’s nominated for Best Director for his semi-autobiographical drama “The Fabelmans.”

The film has been showered with critical acclaim since its release late last year. It’s up for Best Picture, and Best Actress for Michelle Williams.

Tom Cruise jumps from helicopter to thank ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ fans

A free-falling thank you!

Tom Cruise knows how to give his fans a proper thank you, taking a solo freefall dive ahead of “Top Gun: Maverick” release on Paramount+ to thank fans of the franchise for making the film a box office smash this past summer.

Cruise, 60, nonchalantly sitting along the outside of a helicopter, took time out from filming “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” parts one and two in South Africa to tell fans how grateful he was for driving the films theater success.

“I didn’t want the year to end without thanking you all for coming out to the theaters and thank you for supporting ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’” Cruise yelled over the blades of the helicopter.

Accompanying Cruise in the air was “Dead Reckoning” director Christopher McQuarrie, who reminded the action star they had to get back to filming.

The “A Few Good Men” star agreed and got into position to jump, but before letting go, he asked McQuarrie if he would be joining him.

“Not on your life. Good luck,” the director said.

“We’ll see ya down there,” Cruise says before fearlessly letting go of the aircraft and entering a freefall.

But, even in mid-air, falling over 100 mph toward earth, Cruise still had more to say about how gracious he was to everyone who came out to see the film in theaters.

“As always, thank you for allowing us to entertain you. It truly is the honor of a lifetime,” he said, all smiles as he fell towards the ocean.

Before running out of altitude, the “Jerry Maguire” star said he had to get “back to work” and wished everyone “a very safe and happy holiday.”

“We’ll see you at the movies,” he finished saying before pushing away from the camera in mid-air and continuing his solo fall down.

“Top Gun: Maverick,” originally supposed to be released in 2019 but was pushed back following all the complex flight scenes and then the global pandemic, was one of Paramount Pictures’ biggest hits of all time, amassing nearly $1.5 billion worldwide.

In May of this year, after the film was released in theaters, Cruise revealed that the film was never planning on making its debut via streaming services despite years of setbacks from filming and the pandemic.

The new film has Cruise reprising the role of Maverick, who returns to the elite aviation training program to train the next generation of flyers, including Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Monica Barbaro, Greg Tarzan Davis, Danny Ramirez, Lewis Pullman and Jay Ellis. Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm and Val Kilmer, reprising his role from the original, also star.

“Top Gun: Maverick” will be released on Paramount+ on Dec. 22, 2022.

Impossible 8′ set interrupted by invading sheep

Tom Cruise was met with an unexpected dilemma on the set of “Mission: Impossible 8.”

The actor and his crew were forced to his the brakes on production after an unlikely confrontation with a flock of sheep in England’s Lake District.

The animals were seen heading toward the filming area and began chewing on the grass near a marquee set up for filming on Wednesday.

The 60-year-old Hollywood star couldn’t help but laugh at the hold-up and was even seen moving out of the way so the animals could pass through, Fox News reports.

The actor, who stars as crime-solving hero Ethan Hunt in the film franchise, has been filming scenes for the film since July.

Cruise, who is famous for performing his own stunts, was recently seen jumping off a mountain and paragliding during filming.

The seventh film from the franchise is set to be released in July 2023. A release date for the eighth film has not yet been announced.

The flock of sheep was seen eating the grass near the film set, causing the crew to halt production.

It seems as though England had several surprises in store for Cruise.

A group of local walkers in Lake District got more than what they bargained for on Tuesday after accidentally stumbling upon the actor in the countryside.

The actor happily posed for snaps with a couple of passersby, before thanking them and returning to filming.

Cruise executed the final scene of the shoot after the sheep were cleared from the area.

“He was nice and polite and really humble. Tom Cruise apologized for the noise of the helicopters and asked if we were alright,” Adam Wheeler told The Northern Echo.

“He was making sure everybody who wanted to, got their photos with him. We were the last ones to get his picture and then he just paraglided off the mountain back to his camp next to Buttermere.”

“It was a real pleasure meeting one of the most famous Hollywood celebrity actors out there – one of the richest as well. It was not what we expected while out walking on the fells,” Wheeler added.
