Chris Pine Laughs Off Rumors of Harry Styles Feud: “It Did Look Like Harry Spit on Me”

Though Chris Pine was mostly spared from all of the interpersonal drama that played out during last year’s release of Don’t Worry Darling, you’ll recall that there was one moment at the Venice Film Festival in September when it appeared that his co-star, Harry Styles, spat on Pine.

At the time, Pine’s representative shut it down, saying in a statement to People, “This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation. Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.”

In a recent video interview with Esquire magazine, Pine was asked about the incident, and he confirmed once again that nary a drop of Styles’ spittle touched him, but he agreed that the video of the incident looked damning.

“Harry did not spit on me,” Pine confirmed. “Harry is a very kind guy.”

Pine said that after the incident happened and he was traveling home from Venice, his publicist told him, “‘We have to craft a statement on what happened in Venice. About Harry spitting on you.’ She showed me the thing and it did look, indeed, like Harry spit on me. He didn’t spit on me.”

“I think Harry leaned down and said, ‘It’s just words isn’t it?’ We had this little joke. We were all jet-lagged and trying to answer questions and sometimes when you’re doing these press things your brain goes befuddled and you start speaking gibberish, so we had a joke: ‘It’s just words.’”

And there you have it, just words, no spit.

In the print interview that accompanies the video where Pine denies that Spit-Gate happened, he also adds that he had no idea whether or not there was drama between Olivia Wilde, Styles or co-star Florence Pugh on the set.

“If there was drama, there was drama. I absolutely didn’t know about it, nor really would I have cared. If I feel badly, it’s because the vitriol that the movie got was absolutely out of proportion with what was onscreen,” he said. “Venice was normal things getting swept up in a narrative that people wanted to make, compounded by the metastasizing that can happen in the Twittersphere. It was ridiculous.”

Pine stars in the upcoming film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves which arrives in theaters March 31.

What you didn’t see on TV

The 2023 Grammys live broadcast may have been filled with memorable moments – but what fans didn’t see on TV was just as entertaining.

Inside the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, the nominees were spotted having the time of their lives as they watched the hours-long show in the VIP section near the stage.

Lizzo was one of the first celebrities to make her way inside the venue and was hard to miss in her stunning bright orange gown by Dolce & Gabbana.

Lizzo and Adele were the life of the star-studded party inside the Crypto.com Arena Sunday night.

The “Good as Hell” singer was seen snapping pics near her table before the crowd of A-listers assembled into their assigned seats after walking the red carpet.

And Lizzo was truly giving off “bad bitch o’clock” energy throughout the night, turning up with her industry pals. Even when the cameras weren’t rolling, Lizzo and Adele were seen exchanging laughs as they conversed and pumped up their nearby peers.

Lizzo won big herself Sunday night – taking home the Record of the Year award for “About Damn Time” – but was all about spreading good vibes to her fellow artists.

She showed Harry Styles major support throughout the evening by excitedly jumping up and down as he scored multiple wins, including Album of the Year. The two were seen snapping a ton of pics together and cheering each other on after their performances.

Lizzo also couldn’t seem to help herself from fangirling over Beyoncé before and after giving the “Crazy in Love” singer a shoutout in her acceptance speech.

“I won,” Lizzo later wrote on Instagram, sharing snaps of herself posing with Beyoncé and her awards show bestie Adele.

Speaking of Beyoncé, the crowd went absolutely wild when she finally entered the venue fashionably late in a shimmering metallic dress.

Page Six reported earlier Sunday that the “Cuff It” singer missed her first win of the night – for Best R&B Song – due to being stuck in heavy LA traffic.

The songstress also received a standing ovation from what appeared to be the entire crowd – including those who were seated at the very top of the venue – after crushing the record for most Grammy wins ever.

Celebs at the front of the stage immediately flocked to her side to give her hugs and tell her congratulations as she made her way down the stairs and back to her seat.

During commercial breaks, Page Six spotted plenty of celebs mingling, especially Machine Gun Kelly, who seemed to be everybody’s buddy.

The “Bloody Valentine” rocker was constantly out of his seat, chatting it up and saying hello to nearly every artist in the VIP crowd, including rap legend Jay-Z.

Meanwhile, the rocker’s fiancée, Megan Fox, stayed seated at the couple’s table for most of the show after revealing one night prior that she had broken her wrist and suffered from a concussion.

The actress did not share any further details about the incident on social media but appeared to be in good spirits at the Grammys with MGK. However, unlike their usual appearances at awards shows, the lovebirds didn’t show much PDA in the crowd.

One of the highlights of the evening was seeing famous exes Taylor Swift and Harry Styles reunite in public again. Page Six saw the two interacting a few times throughout the duration of the show and they appeared to be friendly and supportive of one another.

At one point, we spotted Swift – chic in a bedazzled Roberto Cavalli look – approach Styles’ table during a commercial break. The “Midnights” singer even patted Styles on the back, seemingly to tell him congratulations, before returning to her own seat next to producer Jack Antonoff.

And while Swift was a dancing diva all night long, we caught her pulling out her best awards show moves as Styles performed “As It Was” from his Grammy-winning “Harry’s House” album.

She jumped right out of her seat shortly after the song began and was the only one at her table standing up and vibing along to the catchy track.

Grammy 2023 snubs and surprises, from Beyoncé to Taylor Swift

Somehow after Beyoncé became the winningest artist in Grammy history with 32 gramophones, she still managed to come off as a loser — yet again — when Harry Styles’ “Harry’s House” won Album of the Year over B’s “Renaissance.”

But — deep breath — how could Beyoncé still not have an Album of the Year gramophone after four nominations, when she should already have at least two?

Her game-changing surprise self-titled set lost to Beck’s “Morning Phase” in 2015, and “Lemonade” — one of the best albums of the century — bowed out to Adele’s “25” in 2017.

But the Queen B wasn’t the only artist to get snubbed — or pull a surprise — at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday night. Here, we look back on some of the other major shockers on music’s biggest night.

Beyonce became the winningest artist of the Grammys with her 32nd award tonight — but that fact wasn’t enough to beat Harry Styles for Album of the Year.

Snub: Taylor Swift

Variety via Getty Images

Yes, T-Swizzle — who dutifully showed up to the awards even though she (and everybody else) knows that 2024 is really her year— won Best Music Video for “All Too Well: The Short Film,” she failed to pick up gramophones for either Song of the Year or Best Country Song for the tunes that were nominated for her re-recorded versions of “Red” and “I Bet You Think About Me.” While this has been a great move for Swift from a principal and pocketbook standpoint, it’s not exactly what the Record Academy wants to award yet with so much truly new music out there.

Surprise: Bonnie Raitt

A shocked Bonnie Raitt takes in the applause.
CBS

Who doesn’t love Bonnie Raitt? But when you’re competing against the likes of Adele, Beyoncé, Harry Styles, Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift and Lizzo — all superstars at the top of their game — it just doesn’t make any kind of sense that the 73-year-old would win Song of the Year for “Just Like That” — a tune that most people (like, almost everybody) haven’t even heard.

Surprise: Muni Long

Sorry, who? Muni Long beat out legend Mary J. Blige — among other big names — for Best R&B Performance.
Getty Images for The Recording A

Um…who is Muni Long? Well, hopefully the world will get hip to this R&B singer-songwriter after she beat out not only Grammy winners Mary J. Blige and Jazmine Sullivan but Beyoncé — let’s repeat that, Beyoncé — for Best R&B Performance for “Hrs & Hrs.” Proof that the Grammys are not, indeed, rigged — expect to see her streams go through the roof tomorrow.

Snub: Mary J. Blige

Something is wrong with a system that shuts out Mary J. Blige, who deserved to win for her album “Good Morning Gorgeous.”

Wait a minute — so Mary J. Blige, the indisputable Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, was nominated for Album of the Year for “Good Morning Gorgeous” for only the second time in her career (after 2005’s “The Breakthrough”), she lost out to neo-jazzman Robert Glasper — a worthy winner in his own right — for “Black Radio III.” But when you are nominated for Album of the Year and you can’t even win in your own genre category — especially a deserving diva such as MJB — something is wrong with the system.

Surprise: Madonna

Madonna presented the much ballyhooed performance of “Unholy” by Sam Smith and Kim Petras.
CBS

When you’re the Queen of Pop, you only step out to present awards when it really means something to you. And after all of her work and representation for the LGBTQ community over the years, Madonna sure was the perfect person to present the performance of non-binary artist Sam Smith and trans singer Kim Petras — who had already become the first trans performer to win a Grammy when their “Unholy” won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance earlier in the night. Certainly, it made sense that Madonna is reminding folks about her own impact last as a fierce LGBTQ ally as she gets set to launch her “The Celebration Tour” honoring her 40th anniversary in music later this year.

Surprise: Samara Joy

Bronx-born jazz singer Samara Joy was a surprise winner for Best New Artist at the Grammys on Sunday night.
CBS

It was a pretty open field for Best New Artist year, with no clear favorite among a motley crew that ranged from buzzy indie duo Wet Leg to Brazilian star Anitta. At the end of the day, the edge seemed to go Italian glam rockers Maneskin for perfectly playing the industry game — and helping to revive a dying genre. But a 23-year-old jazz vocalist from The Bronx somehow, who has been compared to Sarah Vaughan, surprised everyone in one of the night’s biggest shockers.

Surprise: Bad Bunny

Was it going to be Adele? Was it going to be Harry Styles? Or was it going to be the ever-elusive Beyoncé opening the 65th annual Grammy Awards at Crypto.com Arena — opening the first time the show has been held in LA since COVID shut the world down? But the primo placement went to Puerto Rican sensation Bad Bunny, who made history with “Un Verano Sin Ti,” the first Spanish-language LP to be nominated for Album of the Year. Kicking off his medley of “El Apagon” and “Despues De La Playa,” he brought the fiesta through the audience — no social distancing in 2023! — Bad Bunny made up for his no-show at last November’s American Music Awards, where he was the top nominee. While he could have went a little harder on wardrobe — his white t-shirt and jeans made him look like he was still in rehearsals — he got the party started after a semi-slow start. His festive if somewhat chaotic performance got Taylor Swift, Jack Harlow and even 93-year-old Motown founder Berry Gordy out of their seats.

Surprise: Beyonce ties the record stuck in traffic

When Beyoncé tied the record for the most Grammy wins ever, she was — in true diva fashion — late showing up to the awards at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

But seriously, CBS, weren’t they supposed to wait for her to arrive?

Still, when Viola Davis — who had already made history herself by becoming an EGOT by winning a Grammy for Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling for the audio book of her memoir, “Finding Me” — presented the award for Best R&B Song to a no-show Beyoncé, who was apparently stuck in LA traffic, it was one of the all-time diva moments.

The legendary Nile Rodgers, who co-wrote and plays guitar on “Cuff It,” helped to make up for it with an emotional speech that made it all good.

Snub: Diana Ross

The 78-year-old Motown queen — who somehow has been underrated and underappreciated as an artist over a supreme six decades — had never won a competitive Grammy in her legendary career, despite 12 nominations. The streak sadly continued with her unlucky 13th nomination (Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for “Thank You”) on Sunday night.

Kumail Nanjiani reveals cut scene with ‘gorgeous Harry Styles’

A hot-and-bothered Kumail Nanjiani has fallen victim to Harry Styles’ “eternal” gaze.

Nanjiani, 44, revealed Tuesday that he and the pop star had filmed an alternative post-credit scene from the one that appeared in Marvel’s 2021 action flick “Eternals.”

“We actually shot a different scene with Harry Styles, cause the ending now, my character’s not in that scene, but we shot a version where I was with him,” said Nanjiani while appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “And it was a very different sort of post-credit sequence.”

In the final cut of the film, Nanjiani’s character, Kingo, is abducted alongside Sersi (Gemma Chan) and Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry), prompting the arrival of Eros (Styles) and his companion Pip (Patton Oswalt) to arrive and lay the groundwork for a sequel.

“We didn’t really talk. We just sort of made eyes at each other from afar,” added Nanjiani. “No, it was sort of… I don’t really know what I’m allowed to say…”

The “Welcome to Chippendales” star also recalled his first reaction when he heard the “One Direction” alum was suiting up with the cast.

“I started hearing rumblings of it here and there and I thought it was bulls–t.  I was like, ‘The guy from One Direction? No way,’” he joked. “And then you show up to work one day and there’s gorgeous Harry Styles. ‘Hey, mate!’ And I’m like, ‘Hey? What are you doing here, man?’”

Despite its box office success, Nanjiani said that he was “bummed” that comic book fans panned the film.

“I love ‘Eternals.’ I think it’s fantastic. It did bum me out that it was sort of divisive. Chloe made a very, very ambitious, huge movie that’s very different from most comic book movies. She went for a really, really high bar,” said the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” actor.

“Of course it would’ve been great if every single person on Earth loved it, but I love it and I still think, at some point, people are going to re-watch that movie and realize that there’s a lot more to it than they gave it credit for.”

Currently, it is unclear if Nanjiani will return to his role — though he has said he hopes he can.

Olivia Wilde’s nanny claims Florence Pugh, Harry Styles had a fling first

It’s the one question on everyone’s lips: why did Florence Pugh exactly fall out with Olivia Wilde?

Well, Wilde’s former nanny has alleged that Pugh, in fact, had a fling with Harry Styles before Wilde started dating him.

The nanny — named as Erika Genaro by TMZ and confirmed by sources to Page Six — made the claims in a blockbuster interview with the Daily Mail this week.

In a video posted online, Genaro claimed that Sudeikis told her that “Flo was f–king Harry and she had a boyfriend.” Pugh split with longtime love Zach Braff earlier this year.

Following the nanny’s tell-all, Wilde and her ex-boyfriend, Jason Sudeikis, released a joint statement to slam her.

“I want to talk about the Jewish comment, it’s actually…

“As parents, it is incredibly upsetting to learn that a former nanny of our two young children would choose to make such false and scurrilous accusations about us publicly,” the former couple — who share son Otis, 8, and daughter Daisy, 6 — told Page Six.

“Her now 18 month long campaign of harassing us, as well as loved ones, close friends and colleagues, has reached its unfortunate apex. We will continue to focus on raising and protecting our children with the sincere hope that she will now choose to leave our family alone.”

“I want to talk about the Jewish comment, it’s actually…

As Page Six previously revealed, Pugh fell out with Wilde during filming, as multiple sources told us that the Britstar was unhappy that Wilde, her director on “Don’t Worry Darling,” and Styles, her co-star, hooking up on the Palm Springs set.

One industry source told us, “I can tell you for a fact that Flo seeing Olivia and Harry all over each other on set did not go down well as Olivia was still with Jason when she first hooked up with Harry.”

Pugh refused to carry out promo for the movie and then attended a somewhat frosty premiere at the Venice Film Festival last month.

Although Wilde has continued to sing Pugh’s praises, Pugh has so far stayed silent.

Speaking to Elle magazine as part of their Women in Hollywood series, Wilde doubled down on her denial of the animosity between her and Pugh, calling the rumors “untruths.”

Wilde has denied the feud.

Of Pugh, she said, “She’s so generous in her acting in every scene. She makes everyone around her better.] Florence had a really wise comment that we didn’t sign up for a reality show.

“And I love that she put it that way, because it’s as though the general public feels that if you are making something that you’re selling to the public, you somehow have accepted that your life will be torn to shreds by a pack of wolves. No, that’s actually not part of the job description. Never was.”

Wilde — who also acts in the psychological drama — added, “This film is trying to ask big questions, but [it’s] ‘Let’s just focus on this sideshow over here.”

Reps for Pugh, Wilde and Styles were unavailable for comment.

Harry Styles takes it to the bedroom on ‘Harry’s House’

It’s called “Harry’s House,” but the much-anticipated new album by the hottest male pop star on the planet — that would be, duh, Harry Styles — plays more like “Harry’s Boudoir.”

Indeed, the sexy intimacy on Styles’ third solo album makes you feel like you’re peeking through the bedroom door as the former One Direction heartthrob is putting it down with his current flame, actress Olivia Wilde.

Yup, putting it down.

Owning all of the hip-swerving swagger that made “Watermelon Sugar” a No. 1 hit in 2020 and won Styles his first Grammy, the singer is a ball of falsetto friskiness at the beginning of “Harry House.”

“Green eyes, fried rice, I could cook an egg on you/Late night, game time, coffee on the stove/You’re sweet ice cream, but you could use a flake or two/Blue bubblegum twisted around your tongue,” coos Styles, grinding up agains a greasy bass line in his best falsetto at the beginning of the album opener “Music for a Sushi Restaurant.

Clearly, the trumpets aren’t the only things that are horny on this jazz-kissed come-on. And whatever’s on the menu, you’ll just be like, “I’ll have what he’s having.”

And Styles is having his way with you — and whoever you happen to be getting down with in any corner of your house  — on his sexiest album to date.

The very next track, “Late Night Talking,” is made for late-night grooving — perhaps of the horizontal variety — as Styles floats atop a groove reminiscent of Dua Lipa’s “Levitating.”

And if you thought there were jazz vibes on “Music for a Sushi Restaurant,” Styles even scats here. Yes, scats. And he pulls it off.

Although the title of the album is a reference to the Joni Mitchell song “Harry’s House/Centerpiece,” Steely Dan and, more recently, Jamiroquai (remember him?) are more like Styles’ muses on songs such as “Grapejuice,” a summer-ready romantic bop, and “Daydreaming,” a perfect soul-pop soufflé that adds a dash of the 5th Dimension into the mix.

Although the No. 1 single “As It Was” set the shimmying, shimmering stage for the album — with its ’80s pogo pop that has you breaking out your best Molly Ringwald moves — the second half of “Harry’s House” settles into dreamy, woozy balladry that will have you booing up — or getting on Tinder to find one.

When the album ends with “Love of My Live” — which couldn’t possibly be about anyone other than Wilde — Styles sounds positively smitten. Or better yet, love-stoned.
