Poco X5 Pro 5G Appears on BIS, NBTC and EEC Listing Ahead of Rumoured India Launch: Report

Poco X5 Pro 5G has reportedly been spotted on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), as well as NBTC and EEC certification websites. While the phone is speculated to launch in India by the end of this month, these listings have leaked its key specifications. The handset is said to debut as a rebranded version of the Redmi Note 12 Speed Edition and hence could carry identical features. The Poco X5 Pro 5G is expected to feature an OLED display with support for a 120Hz refresh rate.

According to a report by GizmoChina, the upcoming Poco X5 Pro 5G has been spotted on NBTC and EEC listings with model number 2210132G. The BIS listing, on the other hand, carries model number 22101320I. The NBTC certification listing suggests that the phone will be a rebrand of the Redmi Note 12 Pro Speed Edition, which was recently released in China. Thus, the upcoming Poco handset is speculated to offer the same features and specifications as the Redmi device.

The Poco X5 Pro 5G is expected to be equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G SoC, coupled with 12GB of RAM. It is likely to support five 5G bands: n5, n7, n38, n41, n77, and n78. The device could be powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 67W fast charging support. It will likely run MIUI 14 based on Android 13 out-of-the-box. Since the phone is expected to carry the same features as Redmi Note 12 Pro, it could come with a 6.67-inch FHD+ OLED screen with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels and an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.

In the camera department, it is likely to ship with a triple back camera setup with a 108-megapixel main sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. For selfies and videos, it could include a 16-megapixel front-facing camera.

Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 12 Pro Speed Edition recently launched in China at a price of CNY 1,699 (roughly Rs. 20,200) for the base 8GB RAM + 256GB storage model. The 8GB + 256GB storage variant costs CNY 1,799 (roughly Rs. 21,400), and the 12GB + 256GB storage variant is priced at CNY 1,999 (roughly Rs. 23,700).

Oppo Reno 8T 5G Bags Multiple Certifications, Could Launch Soon: Report

Oppo is believed to be working on the Oppo Reno 8T, even though the company has just released three new Oppo Reno 9 series smartphones. In addition, a recent report suggests that Oppo could also be developing a 5G variant of this rumoured model. The Oppo Reno 8T 5G has been purportedly spotted on various certification sites. Unfortunately, there are no pricing or launch details attached to these listings. We can expect more information to come out in the coming days.

According to a recent PriceBaba report, the Oppo Reno 8T 5G has surfaced on the IMDA database bearing the model number CPH2505. In addition, this model has purportedly also made its way to the Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS), Europe’s EEC, and Thailand’s TKDN certification sites.

These listings are said to confirm that this Oppo smartphone will offer 5G, LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, and GPS connectivity. The company is yet to officially delve into any specifications about the Oppo Reno 8T 5G.

In related news, the Oppo Reno 8T (4G) had also surfaced on TKDN, EEC, and BIS in early December. An Oppo smartphone bearing the model number CPH2481 had reportedly also bagged SIRIM and Element Materials Technology certifications. This variant is expected to come with 33W fast wired charging support. Its pricing information is still under wraps. However, the slower charging compared to the Oppo Reno 8 — which offers 80W fast charging — could indicate that it will be a cheaper model.

The vanilla Oppo Reno 8 was launched in India earlier this year at a starting price of Rs. 29,999. Meanwhile, the Oppo Reno 9 series has also debuted in China. Its base model is priced at CNY 2,499 (roughly Rs. 30,000). This new flagship lineup also includes the Oppo Reno 9 Pro and Oppo Reno 9 Pro+.

BIS Comes Out With Standards for USB Type-C Charging Port for Mobiles, Tablets

As the government plans to introduce two common types of charging ports for mobiles and wearable electronic devices, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has come out with quality standards for USB Type-C charging port, according to a senior consumer affairs ministry official.

In the interest of consumers and to reduce e-waste, the Department of Consumer Affairs in consultations with the industry stakeholders is mulling mandating two types of common charging ports — a USB Type-C charger for mobiles, smartphones, and tablets, and the other common charger for wearable electronic devices.

“In the last meeting, a broad consensus had emerged among stakeholders on the adoption of USB Type – C as a charging port for, smartphones, tablets, laptops etc. The BIS has notified standards for Type C charger,” Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh told PTI.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Kanpur is studying single charging port for wearable electronic devices like watches, etc. Once the report is submitted, the same will be discussed with the industry, he said.

Asked about the rollout of two types of common charging ports mandatorily in India, the Secretary said, “We have to align with the European Union (EU) timeline i.e. 2024 because the mobile and electronics makers have a global supply chain and they don’t supply to India alone.” The November 16 meeting had also decided to form a sub-group to examine the feasibility of a uniform charging port for wearables. The sub-group will include representatives from industry bodies, educational institutions.

It was also felt that an impact study may be conducted by the Union Environment Ministry to assess and examine the possible impact of uniform charging port in electronic devices with regard to e-waste.

Stakeholders had agreed that a phased roll-out of the common charging port may be conducted so that the same can be applied by the industry and adopted by consumers harmoniously.

The uniformity in charging port is a step towards LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at COP-26 which calls for ‘mindful and deliberate utilization’ by people worldwide instead of ‘mindful and wasteful consumption’.

The LiFE mission plans to create and nurture a global network of individuals, namely ‘Pro-Planet People’ (P3), who will have a shared commitment to adopt and promote environmentally friendly lifestyles.

Poco X5 5G Spotted on BIS, FCC Databases; Expected to Launch Soon in India, US

Content: Poco X5 5G launch in India and US markets is expected soon as the handset has reportedly received approval from the Bureau of India Standards (BIS) and Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The Poco X4 series made its debut earlier this year as the successor to Poco X3 series, through the launch of Poco X4 GT and Poco X4 Pro 5G models. However, the latest certification website database’s reported citing indicate that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has already begun working its successor in the Poco X5 series which will feature the Poco X5 5G as its first model in the lineup.

Poco X5 5G has appeared on the BIS and FCC certification database websites with model numbers 22101320I and 22101320G, respectively, according to a report by MySmartPrice. The FCC spotting has also seemed to suggest certain specifications of the Poco X5 5G model in terms of software, battery, design, and connectivity. However, the BIS citing has not revealed any specifications of the device model number 33101320I, tipped to be the Indian variant of the Poco X5 5G smartphone.

In terms of software, the Poco X5 5G model may run on MIUI 14, the FCC listing indicated. Meanwhile, the device is hinted to sport a rectangular cutout to house its camera module. The Poco X5 5G model smartphone may support dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity while supporting 6 bands of 5G connectivity in the n5, n7, n38, n41, n77, and n78 bands. Furthermore, the smartphone is hinted to come packed with a 4900mAh battery backup, which could be marketed as a 5000mAh smartphone, according to the report.

Additional rumours around the Poco X5 5G smartphone suggest that the upcoming Poco handset may feature an IPS LCD panel display that could offer a 120Hz refresh rate. The smartphone has also been tipped to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ SoC.

POCO India’s chief Himanshu Tandon had recently taken to Twitter to squash claims that the upcoming Redmi Note 12 5G will launch in India as a rebranded POCO smartphone while also hinting at the launch of the rumoured Poco X5 5G smartphone in India.

Poco has however not made any official announcements about the Poco X5 5G smartphone as of yet.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Series Spotted on BIS, Galaxy K Lineup Could Also Be in the Works: Report

Samsung Galaxy S23 series is believed to be in the works. The complete lineup was reportedly spotted on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) database recently. These listings could suggest that Samsung might soon unveil the successor to the Galaxy S22 lineup, which debuted earlier this year. Rumours suggest that the Galaxy S23 series might debut this year or early 2023. This flagship lineup from Samsung is expected to include the vanilla Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra.

According to a MySmartPrice report, the vanilla Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra were spotted on BIS. These Samsung smartphones are said to have the model numbers SM-S911B/DS, SM-S916B, and SM-S918B/DS, respectively.

In related news, the Galaxy S23 Ultra recently surfaced on the Geekbench benchmarking database. The listed handset with the model number SM-S918U is powered by a chipset codenamed “kalama”, which could be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.

It packs 8GB of RAM and runs on Android 13 out-of-the-box. The Galaxy S23 Ultra received a single-core score of 1,521 points and a multi-core score of 4,689 points. Furthermore, the standard Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ have reportedly also achieved 3C certification.

These Galaxy S23 series handsets were listed alongside three unrecognised devices bearing the model numbers SM-K741B/DS, SM-K746B/DS, and SM-K748B/DS. The existence of these models could suggest that Samsung might be planning to bring back the Galaxy K series.

The South Korean tech giant had previously launched the Galaxy K Zoom back in 2014. This was a camera-focused smartphone featuring a 20.7-megapixel BSI CMOS primary sensor along with a Xenon flash. It also featured optical image stabilisation (OIS) and offered 10x optical zoom. Unfortunately, the BIS listing does not include any details surrounding these possible Galaxy K series smartphones.
