Samsung Uses Lower-Grade Titanium on Galaxy S24 Ultra; Reveals Teardown Video

Samsung has used titanium on the flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra‘s frame this year instead of Aluminium. The South Korean brand’s biggest rival Apple also provided titanium on its latest iPhone 15 Pro series. Most recently, YouTuber Zack Nelson from JerryRigEverything channel, took the Galaxy S24 Ultra apart to find out the amount of titanium that Samsung has used on the phone. The teardown video revealed that Samsung used lower-grade titanium for the frame on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, while Apple treated the iPhone 15 Pro with higher-grade titanium.

Zack Nelson in his latest episode of JerryRigEverything strips the Galaxy S24 Ultra to find out the exact amount of Titanium being used to make the phone. The 11-minute video starts with removing the back panel. The handset features flat glass panels on the front and the back and the YouTuber was able to get inside the device quickly with a single slice from the knife around the exterior. The interior shows 17 Phillips head screws and beneath the screws, Samsung has arranged the 15W wireless charger with copper wires. The teardown offers a look at the arrangement of interior components. The haptic motor is placed inside the bottom speaker chamber and the handset seems to have a bigger copperish vapour chamber under the cell.

As the video progresses, Nelson states that Samsung has laid out a thin cosmetic border of titanium around the exterior. He then melts down the frame of the phone and an XRF scan indicates that Samsung packed grade 2 Titanium on the phone. Apple, in contrast, uses grade 5 Titanium on its latest iPhone 15 models. He claims that a purple anodised aluminium frame fills up the majority of the inner space.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s metal was put through a 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit furnace to separate the materials. The plastic elements quickly burned out while the edges and corner pieces remained. After melting the plastic and Aluminum, the YouTuber notes that Samsung performed an over-moulding process to form parts around one another with Aluminium, plastic and Titanium materials. Apple, on the other hand, developed a custom solid-state diffusion process that fuses Aluminium directly with Titanium. Both phones have about the same thickness of Titanium around the outside, but Apple’s grade 5 Titanium is about four times more expensive.

Nelson opines that Apple could be using $10-15 (roughly Rs. 800 to Rs. 1,200) worth of the material in every iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Samsung, on the other hand, could be using $3-5 (roughly Rs. 250 to Rs. 400) worth of Titanium in the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The added cost is of shaping and casting the metal to work with titanium. The YouTuber states that both titanium exteriors are more cosmetic than anything else. Apple might be getting some minor strength improvements with solid-state diffusion, but with a plastic intermediary, Samsung is not getting any additional strength.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Series Could Offer AI Photo Editing Tool Similar to Google’s Pixel 8

Samsung Galaxy S24 series is expected to launch soon. Ahead of the rumoured launch, several leaks, renders, and other details regarding the phones have surfaced online in the last couple of weeks. The lineup will most likely include a Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Several leaks have suggested that the upcoming Samsung lineup will offer plenty of AI features, including the ability to erase objects from a video. Now, a tipster has leaked some marketing material for the Galaxy S24 series that suggests more AI photo editing features.

As per an image shared by tipster Arsène Lupin (@MysteryLupin) on X (formerly Twitter), the Galaxy S24 series could offer AI photo editing features similar to Google’s Pixel 8 series. The marketing image suggests that the Galaxy S24 series will offer a feature called Generative Edit. This feature can supposedly move or remove objects and also fill empty space with generative edits. However, the feature will reportedly require users to login to a Samsung account and be connected to the internet. There’s no mention of the feature being exclusive to photos only, which suggests that it may also be available for videos, as tipped earlier.

Google’s Pixel 8 series has a similar feature called Magic Editor, which lets you move, remove, and add generative fill to images. This feature also requires an internet connection. Pixel smartphones have had AI features for sometime now, and other brands are now playing catch up. Samsung’s Galaxy S24 lineup will offer several other AI features as well, and according to the leaked marketing material, the Generative Edit feature will be available across all Galaxy S24 models.

The leaked image also suggests other features coming to the Galaxy S24 lineup such as Live Translate, which was recently announced by Samsung. This feature can translate live phone calls with the help of AI. The upcoming phones may also get a Nightography Zoom feature that is said to bring improvements to low-light photos taken from the telephoto camera on the phone.

Samsung Galaxy S24 series is rumoured to launch on January 17, but an official announcement hasn’t been made yet. The lineup is said to use a custom variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC in most regions, while some areas may get the Exynos 2400 chipset.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Could Sport 50-Megapixel Telephoto Camera; May Offer 5x Zoom like iPhone 15 Pro Max

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will be equipped with an upgraded telephoto camera, according to details shared by a Chinese tipster. The South Korean tech conglomerate is expected to launch the successors to the Galaxy S23 series of smartphones, and the top-of-the-line Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to feature an improved telephoto camera that offers up to 5x optical zoom. Earlier this year, Apple unveiled the iPhone 15 Pro Max, a smartphone with support for 5x optical zoom, using a tetraprism telephoto lens.

In a post on Weibo (via 91Mobiles), tipster Ice Universe has shared a screenshot of the EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) information of an image captured with the purported Galaxy S24 Ultra. The leaked image gives us a look at the camera specifications of the telephoto camera on the company’s rumoured flagship phone.

According to the screenshot uploaded by the tipster, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will be equipped with a 50-megapixel camera that can capture images with a resolution of 6,120×8,160 pixels while the file size of the captured image is 20.76MB. Readers might recall that the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra features a 10-megapixel telephoto camera. It should be noted that a higher megapixel count does not automatically translate into better image quality.

Meanwhile, another X (formerly Twitter) user @chunvn8888 shared an image of the purported camera module for the Galaxy S24 Ultra and the image shows the model number SM-G928U, which is said to pertain to the upcoming flagship phone.

Tipster Evan Blass recently shared a teaser image for the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024 launch event, where the company is expected to launch the Galaxy S24 series of smartphones. As per the leaked teaser, the event will begin on January 18 at 1:00 AM KST (11:30 PM IST). Samsung is yet to announce a date for the arrival of its rumoured handsets, which have been leaked several times over past few weeks.

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra Tipped to Offer 24-Megapixel Default Camera Output Resolution

Samsung Galaxy S24 series is rumoured to go official on January 17. As the rumoured launch date approaches closer, more speculations about the top-of-the-line Galaxy S24 Ultra have surfaced on the Web. The upcoming flagship is anticipated to bring the same camera hardware as its predecessor — Galaxy S23 Ultra — but with some AI-based improvements. Samsung is expected to keep the 24-megapixel default camera output resolution on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. It is likely to pack a 200-megapixel quad rear camera unit.

Tipster Ahmed Qwaider (@AhmedQwaider888) on X (formerly Twitter) suggests that Samsung will offer a 24-megapixel default camera resolution on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. If this rumour holds any weight, it would be a notable upgrade from the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which has a default camera resolution of 12-megapixels. Apple’s latest iPhone 15 series also captures 24-megapixel images by default.

Further, the tipster claims that the new Galaxy S24 Ultra will debut with a Photo Remaster feature. This AI-based feature that helps to remove shadows and reflections automatically from pictures is already available on the latest Galaxy Book 4 laptops. It is likely to include three settings — Portrait, Remaster, or Delete. The handset is also said to include an ND filter aka neutral-density filter for adjusting the lighting in RAW images while preserving the colours.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is anticipated to come with a 200-megapixel quad rear camera unit alongside an AI-supported object-aware engine. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Camera, Display Details Tipped Again; Said to Be Brighter Than iPhone 15 Pro Max

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to launch on January 17, 2024, alongside the vanilla Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+. The phone will succeed the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which was unveiled in February this year. Over the past few months, the Galaxy S24 models have been spotted on several certification and benchmarking sites recently and several key details of the handsets, including design renders, have surfaced online. Now, a tipster has suggested the display and camera specifications of the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Tipster Ahmed Qwaider (@AhmedQwaider888) leaked the camera details of the upcoming Galaxy S24 Ultra in a post on X. According to the tipster, the rumoured quad camera unit of the handset will feature a 200-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel sensor with an ultrawide lens, a 50-megapixel sensor with 5x telephoto lens, and a 10-megapixel sensor with a 10x telephoto lens.

As per the tipster, the rear camera system of the Galaxy S24 Ultra will support video recording at 8K with optical image stabilisation (OIS). He also claims that the back and front camera units of the phone will be equipped with an AI-supported object-aware engine.

In another post, this tipster states that the panel of the Galaxy S24 Ultra will offer a peak brightness level of 2,600 nits, which he notes is considerably higher than the 2,000 nits peak brightness of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is perceived to be Samsung’s main competitor. Notably, the preceding Galaxy S23 Ultra claimed to have a peak brightness level of 1,750 nits.

Several earlier leaks have suggested that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset paired with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of onboard storage. The phone is likely to carry a 6.8-inch QHD+ display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. It could also come with a 12-megapixel front camera and a 5,000mAh battery.
