Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6 Tipped to Get Larger Displays

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 foldable phones in 2024, as successors to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, which were introduced in July this year. The company has not yet officially announced these models. However, judging by previous launch cycles, the next generation of foldable smartphones could be unveiled a few months after the launch of the purported Galaxy S24 lineup. The anticipated Galaxy S24 flagship models are tipped to be introduced on January 17, 2024 in San Jose, US. Meanwhile, a recent tip suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 will feature larger displays than their preceding models.

DSCC CEO Ross Young (@DSCCRoss) shared in a post on X that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will feature bigger displays than what their preceding models came with. Young added that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will sport a 3.9-inch cover panel. He did not add any more details about the purported foldable smartphones but added that details about the exact sizes of their screens will be tipped in a DSCC Foldable Report.

Notably, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 comes with a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED folder-shaped outer display and a 6.7-inch full-HD+ (1,080×2,640 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex main screen. The Galaxy Z Fold 5, on the other hand, has a 7.6-inch QXGA+ (2,176 x 1,812 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex inner display and a 6.2-inch full-HD+ (2,316 x 904 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover screen.

While both Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoCs, the flip phone is equipped with 8GB of RAM with up to 512GB of inbuilt storage, whereas the book-style foldable carries 12GB of RAM with up to 1TB of onboard storage. The phones ship with Android 13-based OneUI 5.1.1. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is backed by a 3,700mAh battery with 25W wired, Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 and Wireless PowerShare support. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 shares similar charging capacities but packs a 4,400mAh battery.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 price in India starts at Rs. 99,999 for its 8GB + 256GB variant. It is available in Cream, Graphite, Lavender, and Mint colourways. The Galaxy Z Fold 5, on the other hand, starts at Rs. 1,54,999 for its 12GB + 256GB option and is offered in Cream, Icy Blue, and Phantom Black shades.

Samsung Galaxy A14 5G Getting One UI 6 Update Based on Android 14 in India: Report

Samsung Galaxy A14 5G has reportedly started getting the Android 14 update in India. The update is said to bring One UI 6, along with the November 2023 Android security patch to the mid-range Galaxy A series handset. The Android 14 update comes with firmware version A146BXXU2CWK9. The company has already rolled out the security update for devices including Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S22 series, and Galaxy S23 FE. The Galaxy A14 5G was launched in January.

As per a report by SamMobile, One UI 6 update based on Android 14 for Samsung Galaxy A14 5G is currently rolling out in India. It is said to have a size of around 1.8GB. As mentioned, the update reportedly comes with firmware version A146BXXU2CWK9 and brings the November Android security patch to eligible units. The update adds Android 14 features alongside the list of upgrades under One UI 6. It brings an enhanced quick settings panel, new widgets, and a new design for emojis.

Eligible Galaxy A14 5G handsets in India will receive the latest update automatically. Users can also manually check for the update by heading to Settings > Software update > Download and Install. It is recommended to update smartphones while they are connected to a strong Wi-Fi network and put on charging.

The Galaxy A14 5G was launched in January with a starting price tag of Rs. 16,499. It features a 6.6-inch full-HD+(1,080×2,408 pixels) PLS LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate. It is powered by an octa-core Exynos 1330 SoC, coupled with up to 8GB of RAM.

Samsung has packed a triple rear camera setup on the Galaxy A14 5G, including a 50-megapixel main camera and two 2-megapixel sensors. Samsung Galaxy S24 Series May Launch as an ‘AI Phone’, Galaxy S24 Ultra Now Said to Offer a Slightly Curved Display

Samsung Galaxy S24 series with —Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra —is expected to go official early next year. Samsung is widely speculated to incorporate advanced AI functionalities in the upcoming flagship smartphones and new leaks add more credibility to this rumour. The South Korean tech brand has reportedly filed for trademark applications for ‘AI Phone’ and ‘AI Smartphone.’ It has also filed trademark applications for additional product categories, such as AR glasses and smart rings. Additionally, a tipster claims that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will not have a fully flat display as previously thought, and would feature a minor curve.

As per a report by Galaxyclub, Samsung filed trademark applications for AI Phone and AI Smartphone. Based on this, the report claims that the upcoming Galaxy S24 will be marketed as an AI Phone using these trademarks. The company is trying to secure trademarks for brand names and logos including Magic Pixel, Flex Magic and Flex Magic Pixel for augmented reality (AR) products, smartphone displays, and televisions, with a special focus on AR glasses in South Korea. The brand has reportedly also filed trademark applications for other categories of products, such as smart rings and AR glasses in the last few months.

Separately, tipster SuperRoader (@RoderSuper) on Twitter claims that the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s screen will not be completely flat. It is said to have a minor curvature of 0.3-0.4mm on the bezel. The sizes of the top and bottom bezel are said to be identical and they are said to be half of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Additionally, the left and right bezels are said to be the same as of the predecessor. The new leak somewhat contradicts recent rumours about a flat back panel and a flat display on the upcoming flagship.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Maison Margiela Edition Unveiled: See Price, Availability

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 was launched in July this year alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 5. The phones are powered by custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoCs and come with an IPX8 rating for dust and water resistance. The South Korean tech giant previously introduced the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in an additional colour option in addition to the variants it was initially launched with. The company also unveiled a Galaxy Z Flip 5 Retro Edition model which launched as a homage to the Samsung E700. Now, in their second collaboration with the French luxury fashion house, after the Galaxy Z Flip 4, the firm has recently unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Maison Margiela Edition.

Samsung announced that the Maison Margiela Edition of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be available for purchase in select regions. Available in a 512GB storage variant, the handset will be offered at KRW 2,497,000 (roughly Rs. 1,59,500) through a lottery on the official Samsung site.

To participate in the lottery, interested users can apply through the Samsung site from 9am to 5pm local time (5:30am to 1:30pm IST) on November 30. The winners of the draw will be announced on December 1, at 9am local time (5:30am IST). The model is being showcased in South Korea at Samsung Gangnam and Samsung Hongdae stores starting November 23. A limited number of this Maison Margiela version of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be sold to buyers in China, Hong Kong, and South Korea.

Huawei MatePad Pro 11 2024 to Launch on November 28; Said to Offer Two-Way Satellite Connectivity

In a Weibo post, Huawei confirmed that the MatePad Pro 11-inch 2024 tablet will be unveiled in China on November 28 at 2:30pm local time (12pm IST). The brand name appears to be etched horizontally on the rear panel.

A Gizmochina report claims that the Huawei MatePad Pro 11 2024 model will come with China’s Beidou satellite communication system connectivity support. The feature will allow users to send messages and share their locations in places with no network coverage. The report states that Huawei’s satellite communication system uses high-orbit satellites located up to 36,000 kilometres away, without any additional antennas. For selfies, the tablet is equipped with a 16-megapixel sensor.

Samsung Galaxy Z Foldable Phones in 2025 May Debut With Blue PHOLED Displays: Report

Samsung Display, a major display manufacturer and supplier, is reportedly working to add blue phosphorescent OLED (PHOLED) material to its mobile screens. The transition to PHOLED in its mobile OLED panels is expected to take place by the second half of 2025. The South Korean tech giant is currently using blue fluorescent materials instead of phosphorescent material. The seventh iteration of the company’s foldable phones — Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 — are expected to debut with the next-generation PHOLED solution. Replacing the blue fluorescent with blue phosphorescent is expected to bring improved battery life and reduced power consumption on smartphones.

A report by The Elec, citing officials from UBI Research, states that Samsung is gearing up to use blue phosphorescent OLED display technology in devices by the second half of 2025. At present, the company is employing blue fluorescent materials on its panels that have an internal luminous efficiency of 25 percent. The red and green PHOLEDs are said to offer 100 percent efficiency. By replacing fluorescent materials with blue phosphorescent, Samsung could be able to reduce overall power consumption and improve energy efficiency.

The implementation of blue phosphorescent OLED screens might line up with the potential launch of Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 in 2025. Samsung usually unveils its foldable devices in the second half of every year.

Initial rumours indicated that Samsung Display would be using blue phosphorescent material for the foldable phones that were supposed to be released next year — Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. However, as per the report, “the development of (blue phosphorescent material) does not seem to be going smoothly”. Therefore, we can expect the material to debut on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 in 2025.

The major drawback with blue PHOLED technology is durability. As per the report, the blue PHOLED displays have a lifespan of 55 percent of that of the fluorescent blue diodes. Since Samsung hasn’t confirmed any details regarding the implementation of PHOLED in its mobile OLED panels, it is advised to take the reported details with a pinch of salt.

Samsung Galaxy A35 5G is expected to launch in the market soon. The phone is likely to succeed the Samsung Galaxy A34 5G, which was unveiled this year in March with an IP67 rating. The launch timeline of the succeeding smartphone has not been tipped yet. The company has also not given out any details on the Galaxy A35. However, ahead of any official announcements, design renders of the Galaxy A35 and some of its key specifications have surfaced online.

A MySmartPrice report has shared leaked renders and a 360-degree video showing the design of the purported Samsung Galaxy A35 5G model. The phone is seen with rounded corners, a flat display with slim side and top bezels, and a relatively thick chin. There is a centre-aligned hole-punch slot at the top of the panel for the front camera. The screen is said to be 6.6-inch in size.
