iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus With an Aluminum Frame Survive Durability Test

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus were recently launched by Apple alongside the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Since their launch, the phones have been put through several tests including durability tests that showcased that the iPhone 15 Pro Max with its titanium frame is susceptible to its rear glass being broken easily. Now a durability test shows that the lower end models of the iPhone 15 series with aluminium frames are not easily destructible.

In a video posted on the YouTube channel JerryRigEveything, both the base iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus are put through a series of tests to check their durability. The display of the phones, which come with Apple’s Ceramic Shield protection are seen to be almost scratch resistant with only minor lines visible upon multiple scratching attempts. The aluminium chassis including the side edges, base and upper arch of these iPhone 15 handsets, however, did not emerge unscathed and scratched pretty easily. Upon trying to bend the phones though, from both back and the front, the structural integrity of the models held up strong. The iPhone 15 Pro Max failed this test as the rear panel cracked during the bend test.

Powered by Apple’s in-house A16 Bionic SoCs, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus come with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED displays, respectively. They also have an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

iPhone 15 Brings New Battery Settings Option to Limit Charging Beyond 80 Percent: Report

The Verge’s Allison Johnson during a Q&A session states that all of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models running on iOS 17 feature a new option in the Battery Health & Charging menu that is designed to stop the handset from ever charging beyond 80 percent when enabled. This menu is said to include three options — Optimised Battery Charging, 80 percent limit, and none. It can be accessed by heading to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging .

The publication did not reveal the name of the database, but includes details of both the capacity and wattage of all four models in the iPhone 15 series.

According to the report, the iPhone 15 is equipped with a 3,349mAh battery with a wattage of 12.981Wh. The regular iPhone 14 that was launched last year featured a 3,279mAh battery. The iPhone 15 Plus is equipped with a 4,383mAh battery with a wattage of 16.950Wh, slightly higher than the iPhone 14 Plus, which had a battery capacity of 4,235mAh.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro reportedly packs a 3,274mAh battery with a wattage of 12.70Wh, slightly higher than the iPhone 14 Pro, which has a 3,200mAh unit. On the other hand, the top-of-the-line iPhone 15 Pro Max features a 4,422mAh battery with a wattage of 17.109Wh — this is slightly higher than its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which was equipped with a 4,323mAh battery.

Apple does not reveal the battery capacities of its smartphones, unlike other smartphone OEMs. Instead, it reveals the typical battery life offered by the smartphone. According to the company, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will offer the best battery life in the lineup — offering up to 29 hours of video playback. iPhone 15 series — expected to debut in September at Apple’s next launch event — will reportedly be equipped with a new chip that will enable data transmission at a faster rate than existing iPhone models. The Cupertino company’s upcoming smartphones are likely to drop the proprietary Lightning port in favour of the widely used USB Type-C port. By switching to the modern connector, future iPhone models could offer not only faster charging rates but also rapid data transmission speeds.

Tipster “fix Apple” recently shared images of the charging connector (CC) flex cable for four smartphones — the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. In another post on X (formerly known as Twitter) the account also shared the iPhone 15 series CC flex cable and the integrated circuit (IC) and power supply management chip. A new report now claims that the chip on the images for all handsets could improve the performance of the port compared to older models.

According to a ChargerLAB report, magnifying the images shared by the X user indicate the presence of an IC located behind the USB Type-C socket, which is a Retimer chip typically found on high-speed data transmission devices that support Thunderbolt and USB 4 for high-speed transfers. If the claims made in the report are accurate, all of Apple’s upcoming handsets could support data transfers at up to 40Gbps.

The rumoured Retimer chip might not be the only chip making its way to the iPhone 15 series — a recent report suggests that the company could equip the handsets with an Apple-made 3LD3 chip. According to the tipster, the device could use the chip for transmission encryption that could regulate charging speeds and enhance data transfers on the iPhone 15 lineup.

Apple hasn’t announced a launch date for the iPhone 15 series, but Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman states that the company could unveil the handsets on September 12 or September 13. A handset, believed to be the iPhone 15, was recently spotted on the BIS certification website, hinting at an imminent launch in the country.
