Google Pixel 8 Pro Survives Durability Test, Fares Better Than iPhone 15 Pro Max

Google Pixel 8 series, which includes Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, was launched earlier this month on October 4. The smartphones from the tech giant are powered by a Tensor G3 chip and run on Android 14 out-of-the-box. The Pro variant has recently secured the top rank in the DxOMark display test ranking. It was recently tested for its durability, and the Pixel 8 Pro seems to have performed better than most of its contemporaries, including the recently launched iPhone 15 Pro Max.

YouTuber Jack, popularly known by his channel name JerryRigEverything, has recently tested the Pixel 8 Pro for its durability. The smartphone was tested for seven years worth of damage. As per his claims, the flagship model presents the brightest screen ever made by Google, protected by a Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

The power and volume button of the smartphone, which is made from recycled aluminium, can be removed easily with the help of a knife. The side panels of the Pixel 8 Pro visibly got some damage with knife scratches.

The YouTuber then put the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Pixel 8 Pro together to show how the two smartphones differ when it comes to rear magnetic charging abilities. The Google smartphone also gets an infrared thermometer placed next to the LED flashlight. It can test the temperature of a body which is located within a radius of 2 inches and doesn’t work for humans.

When put to fire test, the smartphone got a permanent burn mark after 17 seconds of getting in touch with the flame. However, despite damage to the screen, the fingerprint scanner of the smartphone worked the same. In the bend test, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max completely failed, the Pixel 8 Pro performed well in the structural strength show, with no cracks or fractures.

To recall specifications, the Pixel 8 Pro features a 6.7-inch Quad-HD (1,344×2,992 pixels) resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It packs a 5,050mAh battery with support for 30W wired charging.

iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus With an Aluminum Frame Survive Durability Test

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus were recently launched by Apple alongside the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Since their launch, the phones have been put through several tests including durability tests that showcased that the iPhone 15 Pro Max with its titanium frame is susceptible to its rear glass being broken easily. Now a durability test shows that the lower end models of the iPhone 15 series with aluminium frames are not easily destructible.

In a video posted on the YouTube channel JerryRigEveything, both the base iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus are put through a series of tests to check their durability. The display of the phones, which come with Apple’s Ceramic Shield protection are seen to be almost scratch resistant with only minor lines visible upon multiple scratching attempts. The aluminium chassis including the side edges, base and upper arch of these iPhone 15 handsets, however, did not emerge unscathed and scratched pretty easily. Upon trying to bend the phones though, from both back and the front, the structural integrity of the models held up strong. The iPhone 15 Pro Max failed this test as the rear panel cracked during the bend test.

Powered by Apple’s in-house A16 Bionic SoCs, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus come with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED displays, respectively. They also have an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

For optics, the phones are equipped with a 48-megapixel wide angle camera and a 12-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide lens at the back. The handsets get a 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera in the front. The base model claims to offer a battery life of up to 20 hours and the Plus model is said to offer up to 26 hours of battery life.

iPhone 15 price in India starts at Rs. 79,900, whereas the iPhone 15 Plus model begins at Rs. 89,900. The phones are offered in storage variants of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. They are available for purchase in India through the official online and offline stores as well as e-commerce platforms and select retail stores. The phones are available in Black, Blue, Green, Pink, and Yellow colour options.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 Survives Durability Test, Outlasts Over 418,000 Folds

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 was launched in August last year and is claimed to outlast 2,00,000 folds or around five years of use if folded and unfolded 100 times a day. In a new video, a YouTuber stresses the durability of the foldable phone by putting it through the folding test and a couple of drops where it has proved to be durable. These test rounds show how resistive the handset is from regular drops and how well it handles dust and water. The folding test video of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 testifies that the phone managed to reach more than 4,18,000 folds and unfolds before refusing to stay closed or fully open. The hinge remains unfazed, closing and opening the phone effortlessly.

Polish YouTuber Mrkeybrd has released a 12-minute video on YouTube that covers multiple test rounds to rigorously examine the durability of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. The folding test which started on June 8 and ended on June 13 was livestreamed. During the test, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 was folded 4,18,503 times before it failed to stay open or closed. Even though, the display seemed unaffected. This number is more than double of the 2,00,000 folds claimed by Samsung.

Apart from the hinge, the durability of the display was also tested. The YouTuber dropped the phone multiple times on a concrete surface and the fingerprint scanner continues to work seamlessly even after several scratches. From the fifteenth drop, the foldable device started showing issues with a visible mark on the hinge.

According to the YouTuber, the phone was also subjected to a water test to see how well Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 could work with moisture. The phone is IPX8 rated for water resistance and is made of Samsung’s Armor Aluminum. On a whole, last year’s foldable phone performs well in the durability test.

To recall, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 was unveiled in India in August last year with a starting price tag of Rs. 84,999 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage option. The top-end 8GB RAM + 256GB storage model was launched for Rs. 88,999. The Flip 3 model comes in Phantom Black and Cream colours.
