iPhone 15 Series eSIM Only Variant to Be Available in More Countries: Report

Apple iPhone 15 series with eSIM-only connectivity could be available in more countries this year. A new rumour suggests that Apple is willing to push the eSIM technology on its iPhone in more countries. The trend started last year with the launch of the iPhone 14 series, which only offered eSIM connectivity for the US market, skipping the physical SIM slot. Apple, however, retained the physical SIM card slot on the iPhone 14 series for all other markets.

Based on a report from French website iGeneration, it is said that Apple plans to use eSIM as the only way to pair it to networks in more countries other than the US. It states that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models will have an eSIM-only variant selling in France. Going by Apple’s history, France won’t be the only place where this change could happen. It is said that more European countries are going to bid goodbye to the physical SIM card slot on the iPhone this year.

eSIM technology is increasingly promoted and adapted by consumers across developed markets. However, the technical challenges in the real world prevent most to use the eSIM technology and stick with the old-school physical Sim tray option. The eSIM has been available on the iPhone since 2018’s iPhone Xs series and the iPhone XR. The addition of eSIM alongside the physical SIM card slot allowed for dual SIM connectivity on the iPhone. Soon after, rival brands like Google and Samsung followed the formula.

On the iPhone 14, Apple says that customers can configure up to eight eSIM profiles. This prevents the need to constantly swap connections for those who travel between countries a lot.

Apple is expected to launch its next iteration of iPhone this year in September, however, the company hasn’t shared any details on the upcoming iPhone 15 series as of now. A recent report suggested that Apple will offer the Dynamic Island feature that made its debut on iPhone 14 Pro models on all four iPhone 15 models.

iPhone 15 Series With USB Type-C to Offer Fast Charging With Apple-Certified Cables: Ming-Chi Kuo

iPhone 15 series launch is months away, but leaks and speculations about Apple’s next flagship series are in plenty. The Cupertino giant is expected to ditch the traditional Lightning port and bring a USB Type-C port to the rumoured iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max this year to comply with a European Union law. A reputed market analyst has now suggested that Apple could restrict the compatibility of USB Type-C ports on iPhone 15 models to MFi (Made For iPhone) certified cables. Apple is said to optimise the performance of fast charging with a USB Type-C port with the preferred cables.

TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a report on Medium Tuesday suggested that the USB Type-C port on the upcoming iPhone 15 models will offer fast charging, but with some company-certified cables. Kuo says Apple will optimise the fast-charging performance of the MFi-certified charger for the iPhone 15.

Current iPhone 14 models support up to 20W fast charging and Apple is reportedly optimistic about a surge in demand for 20W USB Type-C chargers in the second and third quarters of this year. “Among Apple’s chargers, the 20W USB-C charger is the most economical choice for iPhone users, so the 20W Replacement demand for USB-C chargers is strong” he added. According to Kuo, the shipment would be increased by 120 percent and it is expected to be around 70 million units in the fourth quarter.

The assembly suppliers of Apple 20W USB Type-C chargers are Lingyizhizao and Flextronics. Kuo notes that strong replacement demand for a 20W USB-C charger will benefit Lingyizhizao.

Apple is not bundling a charging adapter with the iPhone in the box. So, users might have to purchase an Apple-certified USB Type-C cable or adapter to take advantage of the upcoming fast-charging feature on the iPhone 15 units. Currently, the company is offering a 20W USB Type-C adapter and a 30W adapter.

As the new EU regulations coming into effect next year, Apple had earlier confirmed that it will soon switch the iPhone to a USB Type-C charger. The upcoming iPhone 15 lineup could be the first to ship with USB Type-C ports. Most Android smartphones currently offer USB Type-C standards. Apple’s entire MacBook lineup and a few iPad models currently work with USB Type-C technology.

iPhone 15 Non-Pro Models Likely to Get Dynamic Island; Leaked Front Panel Hints Thinner Bezels on Pro Models

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 15 series later this year. The lineup will most likely include four models — the base iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. This time, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to sport the ‘Ultra’ moniker. There have been multiple leaks and reports surrounding the upcoming devices. One such recent leak has suggested details around the display on the base iPhone 15 and the Pro models. A tipster has posted a video, showcasing purported front glass panels of the soon-to-be-released iPhone models.

Tipster ShrimpApplePro tweeted a video showing a set of front glass panels that will reportedly be used on the upcoming iPhone series, set to be released later this year. The tipster claimed the leak’s authenticity had been verified from a source.

The video shows three glass panels that correspond to our expectations for the iPhone 15 lineup. The iPhone 15 Pro seems to be in the leftmost panel in the video. It has the same display size and Dynamic Island as the iPhone 14 Pro, but with significantly thinner bezels.

The middle glass is the biggest of the three, suggesting it could be the front glass of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It features the identical Dynamic Island at the top, and the larger display area highlights the thinner bezels even more. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max display will most probably appear more immersive than that of any iPhone screens released to date.

The final panel shown in the video is distinguished by a noticeably thicker bezel, which is also seen in the base iPhone 14 series. The panel, likely to be the one on the base iPhone 15, also includes the Dynamic Island. The feature on non-Pro models will be an upgrade from its predecessors. The Phone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus feature a traditional notch housing the front camera and sensors.

The tipster had also earlier suggested that the upcoming iPhone models would only support USB Type-C accessories accredited by Apple’s Made for iPhone (MFi) programme. They asserted that Apple could restrict charging speed and other performance characteristics of unsupported cables. According to the source in the report, iPhone manufacturer Foxconn has begun mass production of accessories such as EarPods and cables.

iPhone 15 Pro Could Launch in Dark Red Colour Option; iPhone 15 May Arrive in Pink, Light Blue Colours: Report

iPhone 14 series was launch in September last year as the company’s latest series of smartphones. This year, the Cupertino, California-based tech giant is expected to follow up the iPhone 14 lineup, with the purported iPhone 15 models sometime in September. The colour options for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models have been tipped months ahead of their debut. New colour options will be added across the lineup, which currently includes vanilla and Plus models, a Pro variant, and a Pro Max variant.

According to a report by 9to5Mac, Apple is expected to keep up its tradition of offering its vanilla variant iPhone in bright colour options with the iPhone 15 series. The vanilla iPhone 15 is expected to be available in Dark Pink, and Light Blue colour options. The publication also shared self-generated render images of the vanilla iPhone 15 in new Pink and Light Blue colour options.

The report adds that the two new colour options for iPhone 15 will be in addition to three standard colour options that could include Black, White, and Red. However, there’s no word from Apple on plans to add new colour options for the iPhone 15 series.

As per the report, Apple will also continue to launch special colour editions on its Pro model iPhone this year. The report claims that the iPhone 15 Pro, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max/Ultra models could arrive in a brand new Dark Red colour option. This colourway is expected to arrive in a titanium finish.

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have been tipped in the past to feature curved edges and thinner bezels around its’ displays. Earlier reports had suggested that screen sizes on different iPhone 15 series models would match that of the iPhone 14 series’ corresponding models. The noticeably thinner bezels and curved edges are expected to give the iPhone 15 Pro models an Apple Watch-like design.

However, it is important to note that Apple has not provided any official indication, or confirmation regarding the design, or look of its’ upcoming iPhone series, including the purported iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro handsets.

iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus Tipped To Sport Redesigned Camera Bump: Report

iPhone 15 series is expected to be launched sometimes this year. Apple is reportedly working on a few aesthetic design changes on the upcoming iPhone series. The flagship smartphone lineup is expected to rival major competitor Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series that has already been announced. Although the announcement is atleast six months away, a latest rumour around the purported iPhone 15, and iPhone 15 Plus suggests that the handsets could feature a rounded back, and a redesigned camera bump design.

According to tipster ShrimpApplePro (@VNchocoTaco), commenting on an Apple Hub tweet teasing features of upcoming lineup, the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus could feature a redesigned camera bump on the rear. The tipster hasn’t revealed further information about the camera setup.

The Apple Hub tweet, on the other hand, suggested some key specifications that could be expected on the iPhone 15 lineup. The specifications tipped around the vanilla iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus include that the smartphones could feature 6.1-inch, and 6.7-inch display screens, respectively. The displays are also expected to get a new dynamic island design featuring 2.5D glass.

In terms of optics, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are expected to feature a 48-megapixel wide camera, while being powered by an A16 chip with 6GB of RAM and USB Type-C port which support the same lightning speeds as the iPhone 14 models.

Meanwhile, the tipster also goes on to suggest that the iPhone 15 Pro could receive a 6.1-inch display, similar to the iPhone 15 in terms of size. The top-end iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to get a 6.7-inch screen like the iPhone 15 Plus, in terms of size.

It was previously reported Apple could potentially use up to 2,500 of brightness in the iPhone 15 Ultra. The ‘Ultra’ model in the iPhone 15 lineup will reportedly replace the top-of-the-line Pro Max model.

All iPhone 15 Models to Get Apple’s Dynamic Island, iPhone 15 Pro May Sport Titanium Frame: Gurman

Apple is expected to offer the Dynamic Island feature that made its debut on its current generation iPhone 14 Pro on all four iPhone 15 models. This feature is designed to make the best use of the space that was being wasted around the notch on the front that houses the TrueDepth sensor. Dynamic Island can showcase notifications and can be used to manage music streaming, among other tasks, once apps add support for the feature. It was introduced with the iPhone 14 series, but was limited to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models.

Mark Gurman suggests in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter that all four iPhone 15 series models will sport Apple’s Dynamic Island. There will reportedly be no change in the screen sizes of these handsets from the current generation models. The iPhone 15 series will also come with a USB Type-C port in compliance with the EU common charger legislation.

The Cupertino company is said to have also replaced the stainless-steel frame with a titanium one on the Pro models. These phones are expected to be powered by a chipset that faster than the Apple A16 that powers the current-generation Pro models. A recent report suggests that the purported Apple A17 chipset may use TSMC’s 3nm process for up to 35 more energy efficiency.

Gurman claims that Apple has poured most of its resources into getting its mixed-reality headset launch-ready for a possible unveiling during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. As a result, the software department is reportedly prioritising the headset’s own xrOS operating system. Apple is believed to have several hardware and software kinks to work out on this headset.

This reallocation of resources has reportedly cost iOS 17 a few new features as well, according to Gurman. Codenamed Dawn, this new operating system could now offer only a few major changes; iPadOS 17 and macOS 14 could also suffer the same fate.

iPhone 15 Lineup Could See More Difference Between Pro, Basic Models: Report

iPhone 14 series with four new models were launched at the ‘Far Out’ event in September this year. Apple introduced iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro as smaller models, while the iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 14 Pro Max debuted with larger screens. The early market trends reflected sluggish demand for the non-Pro models. Now, a new report suggests that Apple is “seriously” concerned about the sales performance of the iPhone 14 Plus and the Cupertino giant is looking to adopt new marketing strategies to make up for it during the release of the next iPhone series.

A new post by South Korean blog Naver suggests that Apple is “seriously” thinking about the sales performance of the iPhone 14 Plus and is considering new strategies for the upcoming iPhone 15 lineup. The decline in sales of the current non-pro models is reportedly far beyond the range predicted by Apple’s external environment.

Firstly, Apple could consider reducing the difference between the pro models and basic models. This is in line with the claim by analyst Ross Young that the Dynamic Island feature, which is currently available only on iPhone 14 Pro models could reach all iPhone models next year.

Apple is also considering changing the pricing strategy of upcoming iPhone models and the ‘price will be set differently than it is now’. It may reduce the price of the Plus model of the 2023 lineup. The iPhone 14 Plus price in India starts at Rs. 89,900. In contrast, the price of the iPhone 14 Pro Max starts at Rs. 1,39,900.

However, known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo earlier said that Apple will increase the gap between the Pro and non-Pro iPhone models further and offer exclusive features in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Kuo stated that the company wants to increase the average selling price (ASP) of the iPhone units.

Further, the blog post states that the difference in material and camera parts between the pro model and the max will be definitive. This corroborates past leaks, that suggested a titanium chassis and periscope zoom camera on the iPhone 15 Pro Max model. The high-end models in iPhone 15 series are tipped to come with solid-state buttons instead of physical volume and power buttons.

Apple’s 2023 iPhone lineup is said to comprise the standard iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max models. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are expected to be powered by Apple’s next-generation A17 Bionic chip. The non-Pro models could feature the A16 Bionic chip.

Apple AR Glass Enters Design Development Stage to Debut in 2024: Report

Apple’s anticipated augmented reality (AR) glasses have entered the design development stage and will reach prototype level by the end of this year, a market research analyst has said in a note. The glasses, which are rumoured to be called the Apple AR Glass, are said to debut sometime in 2024. The analyst has also speculated whether one or two models of the iPhone 15 Pro would come with a periscope lens. The presence of the periscope lens is expected to help deliver an enhanced camera experience.

Haitong International Securities Tech Research Analyst Jeff Pu said that the prototype of the AR glasses by Apple would be ready by the end of this year, 9to5Mac reports.

The analyst has reportedly mentioned that Corning and Hoya were sampling the glass, while the glasses themselves are said to adopt the waveguide technology.

It is important to point out that the Apple AR Glass in question is expected to be a different product altogether over the rumoured mixed reality headset that is also speculated to launch as early as next year.

Last week, Pu suggested that Apple’s AR glasses would be unveiled in the second half of 2024.

Pu is also said to have questioned reports suggesting the periscope lens on the iPhone 15 Pro in the latest note. The analyst said that it wasn’t clear whether all the iPhone 15 Pro models would come with the periscope lens.

“We continue seeing a very high chance of the periscope’s adoption, with Lante being the major supplier,” the analyst said.

It is likely that the iPhone 15 Pro Max would be the model to carry the periscope lens, while it would not be available on the regular iPhone 15 Pro.

Previous reports suggested that the iPhone 15 series would come with a USB Type-C port instead of a Lightning connector. There could also be an under-display camera with Face ID.
