Prince Harry pays tribute to late mother Princess Diana as he attends ‘living legend’ awards solo

Prince Harry paid touching tribute to his late mother Princess Diana as he was inducted into an aviation Hall of Fame on Friday.

The Duke of Sussex was named a “living legend” before being honored for his time as a helicopter co-pilot in the British Army.

Harry attended the star-studded ceremony in Beverly Hills sans wife Meghan Markle.

After taking to the stage to receive his award from John Travolta, Harry recalled the actor’s picture-perfect moment in 1985 when he danced with Diana at President Ronald Reagan’s White House dinner.

“I was just a one-year-old when you danced with my mom at the White House and now look at us,” Harry, 39, told Travolta.

“The only thing left to do is… not dance together but fly together,” he added.

Travolta, who is the “Official Ambassador of Aviation” and a former pilot himself, was reportedly the one who pushed for the exiled royal to be recognized for his stint in the Army.

After presenting Harry with a medal, Travolta asked him, “What can you remember about your first flight?”

“It’s classified,” Harry quipped.

Harry has 10 years of military experience under his belt and has completed two tours of Afghanistan where he flew in combat missions.

The royal, who rose to the rank of Captain during his time in the military, is also the founder of the Invictus Games, for which he was honored at the ceremony.

Harry’s name was called out among a slew of others, including Jeff Bezos, Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, Morgan Freeman, Elon Musk, and Saudi Prince Sultan bin Salman Al Saud.

Other space legends such as US Navy pilot Fred George and former world speed record holder Steve Hinton were also inducted.

Harry, who this week withdrew his libel case against the Mail on Sunday, seemingly enjoyed his evening out, as he was pictured taking a selfie with Prince Mario-Max Schaumburg-Lippe, 46, who is a member of the Danish royal family.

Harry’s outing came just days after it emerged that Kate Middleton had a planned abdominal surgery, which she will now recover from for at least two weeks.

News of the Princess of Wales’s medical procedure came to light Wednesday in an official statement from Kensington Palace, who revealed that she has postponed all engagements until after Easter.

That same day, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles will undergo a “corrective procedure” for an enlarged prostate next week.

Harry and Meghan have not publicly commented on the news at this time.

Green Day saving rock ‘n’ roll with ‘Saviors’— 30 years after ‘Dookie’

Sometimes, dookie happens.

And when you name an album “Dookie,” clearly you’re not taking yourselves too seriously.

But here we are — 30 years after Green Day released its blockbuster breakthrough on Feb. 1, 1994 — and the Cali trio of singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tré Cool is still punking us.

But three decades after the group’s major-label debut “Dookie” — featuring the now-classic rock hits “Longview,” “Basket Case” and, biggest of all, “When I Come Around” — wrestled rock from grunge’s grasp in the mid-’90s, Green Day is still, against the odds, very much “around.”

And when they performed “Basket Case” near the end of their SiriusXM concert — airing Saturday at 9 p.m. ET on their own damn Green Day Radio channel — for an exclusive audience at New York’s Irving Plaza on Thursday night, it was as if they were all 51 going on 21 again.

Green Day’s Tré Cool, Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt are still rocking with “Saviors,” their best album in years. Emmie America

Taking place 30 years after Green Day first played the Manhattan club — before they hit their usual stadiums on tour his summer — the pogo-propelling party was ostensibly an album-release show a couple hours before “Saviors,” their 14th studio LP, was released on Friday.

And it says a lot about their follow-up to 2020’s lukewarmly received “Father of All Motherf—kers” that new tracks such as “Look Ma, No Brains,” “Dilemma” and “One Eyed Bastard” — killer singles all — were not just pee-break filler until you could get to forever faves such as “American Idiot,” “Holiday” and “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.”

You could just feel that Green Day knew it had some good stuff on what is easily the band’s best album since 2009’s chart-topping, Grammy-winning “21st Century Breakdown.” They tore into the new tunes with the swag, stomp and perfected snarl of the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers that they are.

The new LP reunites the trio with producer Rob Cavallo, who also helmed “Dookie” 1995’s “Insomniac” and 1997’s “Nimrod,” which spawned their biggest hit in “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).”

And it was Cavallo who was behind the boards for 2004’s “American Idiot” — perhaps Green Day’s greatest triumph. Not only did that ambitious concept album score them their first No. 1 LP on the Billboard 200, but it inspired a freaking Broadway musical in 2010.

Now ain’t that some dookie.

And as we launch into a presidential election year fraught with foreboding, Green Day nails the spiked uncertainty on “The American Dream Is Killing Me,” the politically charged opener of “Saviors.”

But perhaps the album’s biggest statement comes in the punk-pop perfection of “Bobby Sox,” on which the bisexual Armstrong casually shifts from “Do you wanna be my girlfriend?” to “Do you wanna be my boyfriend?” in a way that would have been hard to imagine 30 years ago.

As if Green Day needed to do any more to save rock ’n’ roll — just when it needed it — on “Saviors,” they went ahead and made queer punks cool.

Phoebe Tonkin on the Joy of Making Boy Swallows Universe

Long before she nabbed the part of Eli’s mother Frankie, Tonkin was your average fan of Dalton’s most-talked-about work. She remembers the book being everywhere in Australia when it first came out. It was the book-club book at the time, and her mother gifted her with it for Christmas in 2019. When she got the job a few years later, Tonkin revisited the material, and this time, reading it was a bit surreal. Instead of picturing someone else as Frankie, she was picturing herself. The original text ultimately became Tonkin’s bible while filming. “Having a book, especially a book so detailed as Trent’s book, was so invaluable for creating this story,” Tonkin says. “Television is also a very different medium, but it just added such a strong foundation.”

In addition to the book, Tonkin consistently referred back to an interview with Dalton where he explained his reasons for writing the book. “[Trent] shared that he was sitting with his mom, who Frankie is based on, in the garden with his young daughters. He shared that his mom turned to him and said, ‘I wouldn’t change anything in my life because it all led to this moment sitting here with you and watching my grandchildren dancing in the sunlight,’” she says. “For me, every time I would have a question about a scene or a line, it all just went back to that. … Even though things can be really hard and so unfair and so painful, there is something to be gleaned out of it. Hopefully, we’re all lucky enough to get to the end of our lives and look back at the patchwork of what got us there and think the same thing—that I wouldn’t have made any different decisions because I would have not wanted to change anything. For me, that was essentially the essence of the book and the essence of the show as well.”

Throughout the series, we see Frankie at different stages of her addiction—going through withdrawals, doing drugs, and recovering—but despite her sometimes questionable decision-making, Frankie’s love for her children is her North Star always. For Tonkin, this became her objective and driving force throughout the six months of filming. “Just because she doesn’t always make the perfect choice as a mother doesn’t mean she’s not a good mom, and it doesn’t mean she’s not trying to be a good mom, so for me, it was holding onto that piece of information. She just loves her kids so much, and she’s doing the best she can, and sometimes, that is it,” Tonkin explains.

Where the role became truly transformative for Tonkin was in the research. She immersed herself in as many books, blogs, and podcasts on addiction and recovery as possible. She read countless firsthand stories from people struggling with addiction themselves as well as their families. “I’ve always had so much compassion for people who struggle with addiction, and the stigma that people aren’t trying their best is just not true,” she says. “Looking at people’s stories like that versus this cliché idea of doing drugs, there’s a reason for it. There’s remorse. There’s guilt. There’s pain.”

There’s a line in the show that says, “It gets so good that you’ll forget it was ever bad.” It goes back to the message Dalton shared about his mother: After it all, she has no regrets because it got her to where she is today. Tonkin still repeats that line to herself all the time, especially when things aren’t good. It’s a constant reminder that, despite any turmoil in life, there is still hope.

Daniel Day-Lewis breaks from retirement to fete Martin Scorsese

NEW YORK (AP) — Daniel Day-Lewis took a break from retirement to present Martin Scorsese the award for best director at the National Board of Review Awards in midtown Manhattan on Thursday night.

Scorsese’s Osage epic, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” was the top honoree at the 95th NBR Awards. In awards announced earlier but handed out Thursday, “Killers of the Flower Moon” was the group’s pick for best film, along with best director for Scorsese and best actress for Lily Gladstone.

The night’s biggest surprise guest was Day-Lewis, who quit acting after Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2017 film “Phantom Thread” and has since largely avoided public life. Day-Lewis sat next to Scorsese throughout the gala at Cipriani’s 42nd Street before presenting the directing award.

“I was a teenager when I discovered Martin’s work,” Day-Lewis said. “With a light of his own making he illuminated unknown worlds that pulsed with a dangerous, irresistible energy — worlds that were mysterious to me and utterly enthralling. He illuminated the vast beautiful landscape of what is possible in film and he clarified for me what it is that one must ask of one self to work in faith.”

Day-Lewis, who starred in Scorsese’s “Gangs of New York” (2002) and “The Age of Innocence” (1993), called working with the director “one of the greatest joys and unexpected privileges of my life.”

When Scorsese took the stage and accepted the award, he returned the compliment, calling working with Day-Lewis “one of the greatest experiences of my life.”

“Maybe there’s time for one more,” added Scorsese with a grin as the crowd gasped at the possibility. Day-Lewis, standing to the side of the stage, smiled and held out his hands.

Much of the appeal of the NBRs is the pairing of presenters and honorees. Laura Linney introduced best supporting actor Mark Ruffalo, a reunion of the “You Can Count on Me” stars. Patti Smith presented Lily Gladstone with the best-actress award.

“Of course this is not a dream to be sitting in between Patti Smith and Daniel Day-Lewis,” joked a staggered Gladstone.

The night’s most moving moment came earlier in the evening when Michael J. Fox took the stage with Davis Guggenheim, the director of the documentary winner “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie.” The crowd gave Fox a rousing standing ovation before the actor reflected on how Parkinson’s disease has changed his life for the better.

“Parkinson’s has been a gift. It’s been a gift that keeps on taking,” Fox said. “It’s been a gift because it’s given me an audience to talk about what’s possible.”

Fox worked in jokes throughout his speech but returned to that theme, noting Parkinson’s has been more meaningful to him than his success in entertainment.

“It just opened my eyes in a way I didn’t expect,” Fox said.

Bradley Cooper, recipient of the Icon Award for “Maestro,” also paid tribute to Fox as he recalled watching “Secret of My Success” and “Family Ties” while growing up.

“I felt like he was my friend,” Cooper said.

While there was little suspense to the ceremony, given that the awards had been announced earlier, a clue was dropped to one of awards season’s biggest mysteries.

French director Justine Triet, whose “Anatomy of a Fall” was honored for best international film, provided a hint for moviegoers debating whether the film’s protagonist, played by Sandra Hüller, was guilty of the murder she is tried for in the film.

“I have one advice: Watch the dog,” Triet said. “He’s an animal. He has instincts. Maybe he knows.”

Jo Koy says he is ‘just supporting’ Taylor Swift following backlash over his Golden Globes 2024 joke

Jo Koy claimed he’s a Swiftie days after he made fun of Taylor Swift during the 2024 Golden Globes.

“I didn’t understand the Taylor [Swift] tiff,” he told the Los Angeles Times in an interview published Thursday.

“What hurts the most is me just supporting Taylor, I support her, I love her work. I got nieces that I bought tickets for. There’s no ill intent in that joke.”

During his opening monologue as a first-time host of the Golden Globes, the 52-year-old comedian made jabs at Swift, saying, “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift.”

However, when the joke fell flat, he quickly added, “Sorry about that.”

Despite apologizing, the 12-time Grammy winner wasn’t amused by the jab as she glared at him while sipping her drink.

During his interview with the LA Times, Koy specified that the statement was supposed to take a shot at the NFL and not her.

“It’s like, the cool thing about the [Golden] Globes is we don’t need to do cutaways for ratings,” he further explained.

Earlier in the week, he made a similar comment to “Entertainment Tonight,” saying that he thought the NFL cutaways of her at the games were “cute.”

Of course, Swift is well aware of the mixed reactions her appearances at NFL games have garnered as she supports her Kansas City Chiefs tight end beau Travis Kelce.

Despite her presence at Chiefs games bringing in an entirely new demographic of viewers, some NFL fans think her simply being there is too much and have even blamed her for causing the Chiefs to play horribly.

However, that is far from the truth, as she has statistically done the opposite.

The “Red” songstress addressed her screen time at NFL games during her 2023 Time Person of the Year profile, saying, “There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once.”

She added, “I’m just there to support Travis.”

“I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”

Darnell ‘SuperChef’ Ferguson’s lawyer calls burglary, strangulation charges ‘misleading’ and ‘false’

Darnell “Superchef” Ferguson’s lawyer called his burglary and strangulation charges “misleading” and “false” after he allegedly threatened to kill his estranged wife, Tatahda Ferguson.

“Darnell and his wife are separated, and are working together to find a new balance for their family,” his lawyer, Krsna Tibbs, told Page Six Thursday.

“They had a disagreement on January 2 that was subsequently reported to the authorities in a misleading and false manner.”

His lawyer said that the Food Network star — who shares eight kids with his estranged wife — hopes “these issues will be resolved shortly and in a way that is least disruptive to their blended family of eight children.”

“We ask at this time for privacy for Darnell and the entire family so that they can heal and continue to work on coparenting as they move forward with their divorce.”

Page Six has reached out to Tatahda for comment but didn’t hear back at the time of publication.

Lisa Vanderpump, Ken Todd sued for wrongful termination by TomTom bartenders

Lisa Vanderpump and her husband, Ken Todd, are being sued for wrongful termination by former bartenders of TomTom Restaurant & Bar, one of their establishments in West Hollywood, Calif.

According to documents obtained by The Blast on Thursday, the employees — who worked for the couple from May to December 2022 — claim that they were terminated in retaliation for complaining about unsavory working conditions.

One former employee further claims that Vanderpump, 63, and Todd, 78 — whose Los Angeles restaurant portfolio also includes SUR and Pump — “blacklisted him by defaming him to future employers.”

This individual even alleges that the pair — who tied the knot in August 1982 — “[published] false statements and comments to numerous third parties” regarding his “profession, reputation and character.”

News of the legal filing comes just weeks before the Season 11 premiere, the show’s first since Sandoval’s cheating scandal — dubbed “Scandoval” by viewers — rocked the world of pop culture.

More of the aftermath of his secret affair with castmate Rachel “Raquel” Leviss and its devastating impact on now-ex-girlfriend Ariana Madix will be explored in the next “VPR” installment.

Kyle Richards admits she feels guilty for thrusting Morgan Wade into the ‘RHOBH’ spotlight:

Kyle Richards blames herself for all the unwanted media attention Morgan Wade has had to put up with since forming their close friendship last year.

“She’s an artist, you know? She just wants to make music and all of a sudden she was thrust into this like, world of gossip and tabloids and traveling and having paparazzi take pictures of her,” Richards shared during an Amazon Live on Tuesday.

“She just doesn’t like any of that,” the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star added of the country music singer.

Richards, 55, explained that the “Wilder Days” singer, 29, doesn’t like “attention” or being “talked about.”

“She just wants to make music and all of a sudden I had a lot of guilt, you know, that I put her in this position,” Richards further explained.

“She’s an artist, you know? She just wants to make music and all of a sudden she was thrust into this like, world of gossip and tabloids and traveling and having paparazzi take pictures of her,” Richards said on an Amazon Live.

Richards admitted that she was the one who asked Wade to perform at her suicide awareness event in honor of her late friend Lorene Shea, which subsequently pushed the singer further into the “spotlight.

“She would tell me, ‘It’s not your fault, it’s not your fault.’ Of course I feel bad because it gave her anxiety, you know?” Richards continued. “Seeing these headlines, and like I said, just thrust into the spotlight brought her anxiety.”

She added, “Like myself, she suffers from anxiety, so I felt terrible to have put her in that position.”

The Bravolebrity confirmed that her close friend has “kind of adjusted” to all the media attention but said it’s “all very new to her” and isn’t “going away.”

Morgan’s performance at the mental health awareness event was captured by Bravo cameras and showcased on Wednesday night’s episode of “RHOBH.”

“She came on as a favor to me because my best friend since I [was] 7 years old passed away. She committed suicide May 1st [2022], and it was a really important event for me,” Richards explained of Shea.

“It was a celebration of life and I just wanted to bring more awareness and have suicide be more of an open conversation because it’s such a taboo topic,” she said.

“So I really wanted to do an important episode to honor Lorene and just to bring light to suicide and what it does to people and help people that are struggling.”

Richards explained that Wade’s music touches on the topic of suicide and the singer knew how much she was struggling after losing Lorene.

Richards also has an older daughter Farrah Brittany, 35, whom she welcomed with her first husband, Guraish Aldjufrie.

Oppenheimer sweeps Golden Globes taking best drama, actor and director | Cinema News

Christopher Nolan’s epic about the atomic bomb had eight nominations compared with nine for the box office blockbuster Barbie.

Oppenheimer, one of the biggest box office hits of 2023, has won multiple Golden Globes, as Hollywood kicked off its annual awards season.

Irish actor Cillian Murphy took home best male actor for his portrayal of scientist J Robert Oppenheimer in the film about the development of the atomic bomb.

The film was named best drama, Christopher Nolan the best director and Robert Downey Jr the best male supporting actor.

“I was in the hands of a visionary director, a master,” Murphy said as he accepted the Golden Globe on Sunday night.

Indigenous actor Lily Gladstone, a firm favourite, won best actress in a drama film for her role in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.

The gothic comedy-drama Poor Things, from celebrated Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, was named best film comedy or musical, and its star, Emma Stone, best actress in a film comedy or musical.

The Globes ceremony marks the start of Hollywood’s annual awards season, which culminates with the Oscars on March 10. Overhauled after a diversity and ethics scandal in 2021, the Globes recognise the best in film and television and brought the stars together for the first time after six months of strikes by actors and writers in 2023.

In television, the drama series Succession was named best television drama and took the top acting awards for its final season about the high-stakes battle for control of a global media empire. Kieran Culkin, who played the wayward son Roman Roy, landed the award for best actor, while Australian Sarah Snook won best actress. British actor Matthew Macfadyen took home best supporting actor for his role as her fictional husband, Tom Wambsgans.

Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri, meanwhile, were recognised for their leading roles in the television comedy The Bear, while road-rage saga Beef picked up best actor and actress limited series awards for Ali Wong and Steven Yeun.

Several Hollywood legends, from Meryl Streep to Robert De Niro and Jodie Foster, all Globe nominees vying for Oscars this year, were among those on the red carpet for the revamped awards.

Pop superstar Taylor Swift was also at the ceremony where she was nominated for best song.

That award went to Billie Eilish for What Was I Made For? which she wrote for Barbie.

The satire on misogyny and female empowerment made more than $1bn in ticket sales and was nominated for nine awards including best comedy and best director for Greta Gerwig.

It went home with the newly created trophy for box office achievement.

Among the other winners were the French courtroom drama Anatomy of a Fall, which won best screenplay and best film not in English, and The Boy and the Heron, which won best animated film for Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki.
