Jaadugar Trailer Out: Jitendra Kumar Impresses as Magician Meenu in Netflix Movie

Jaadugar trailer is here. On Tuesday, streaming platform Netflix released a nearly two-and-a-half-minute trailer for the Jitendra Kumar-led Hindi-language sports dramedy feature film to pique the curiosity of fans. The Jaadugar trailer introduces us to Meenu (Kumar), a struggling magician and hopeless romantic, who has no interest in sports. In a particularly amusing sequence, he makes a complete fool of himself while trying to demonstrate his non-existent football skills. The focus soon shifts to his love interest (Arushi Sharma), who appears to be an eye doctor. We are soon treated to some cheesy yet enjoyable romantic exchanges between the two. The Jaadugar trailer ends with rousing sequences, in which we see Meenu trying to prove his worth by shining on the football field.

Besides Kumar and Sharma, the Jaadugar cast includes Manoj Joshi, Jaaved Jaaferi, and Dhruv Thukral in key roles. The Jaadugar trailer, however, does not reveal much about their characters as the focus is on the lead pair.

Sameer Saxena, best known to many for directing the romantic comedy web series Permanent Roommates for The Viral Fever (TVF), directs Jaadugar off a script from writer-producer Biswapati Sarkar. Amit Golani and Saurabh Khanna have produced the movie under the Posham Pa Pictures banner.

In a prepared statement, Kumar thanked the team for casting him: “Jaadugar is a film extremely close to my heart. Playing the larger-than-life rebellious Meenu was a new and exciting journey for me. I am thankful to the director Sameer Saxena and the Posham Pa and Chalkboard entertainment teams for bringing this beautiful family entertainer to life and trusting me with this role. I hope to entertain Netflix audiences in India and across 190+ countries with the magical world of Jaadugar.”

For Kumar, Jaadugar will be his third collaboration with Netflix, after the romantic drama Chaman Bahaaar and the second season of the web series Kota Factory.

Jaadugar debuts July 15 on Netflix in India and around the world.

Thor: Love and Thunder Teaser: Chris Hemsworth Tries to Deliver an Inspiring Speech

Thor: Love and Thunder has gotten a new teaser trailer, over two weeks from release. Early on Tuesday, Marvel Entertainment released a new one-minute teaser for the fourth Thor film to pique the curiosity of fans. In the latest Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, we see the titular superhero (Chris Hemsworth) trying to deliver a speech to inspire allies to stay united in the face of an impending crisis. The focus soon shifts to Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher, the menacing antagonist out to eliminate Thor, as he vows to wreak havoc. The latest Thor: Love and Thunder teaser trailer also features shots of characters such as Thor’s former lover Jane Foster/ Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman) and the king of New Asgard Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) as they fight to survive.

Headlined by Hemsworth, Portman, and Bale, the Thor: Love and Thunder cast includes Russell Crowe as the Olympian god Zeus and Jaimie Alexander as Thor’s childhood friend Sif. Taika Waititi, who directs the film off his own screenplay, reprises his role as the Kronan Gladiator Korg. Additionally, Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper will reprise their respective roles from the Guardians of the Galaxy series.

Thor: Love and Thunder story has garnered a fair deal of attention as it isn’t an overly dramatic or sombre affair. Waititi had earlier told Entertainment Weekly that it deals with universal themes: “It’s not a serious film, and it’s not a drama, but we do deal with ideas that I think a lot of humans deal with — universal themes about love and loss and our place in the world. Everyone sort of asks this question in the film: What is your purpose? What is the reason that you’re a hero, and what do you do when you have these powers?”

Thor: Love and Thunder debuts July 8 in cinemas worldwide. In India, Thor: Love and Thunder will release a day earlier on July 7 in English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.

PS5 India June 21 Restock: How to Pre-Order PlayStation 5, PS5 Gran Turismo 7 Bundle

PS5’s June restock is here. Today at 12pm noon, the Rs. 49,990 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray-equipped variant of Sony’s elusive next-gen console PlayStation 5 will be up for pre-order in India. Alongside, just as in April and May, some retailers will also offer a Rs. 54,490 bundle of the Blu-ray PS5 and Gran Turismo 7 that represents a Rs. 499 saving if you were to buy them separately. Gran Turismo 7 released back in March — to heavy backlash from fans owing to microtransactions and grind-based economy — and with Sony India still bundling it, it seems like Sony has more Gran Turismo 7 copies that have remained unsold. Even after the last two PS5 India restocks.

If you are trying to buy PlayStation 5 online, you can do that on Amazon, Croma, Flipkart, Game Loot, Games The Shop, Reliance Digital, Sony Center, and Vijay Sales. You can also check out game stores near you. Those tend to be a better shot at times. Though as has been the case for over a year now — the PS5 celebrated its first birthday in India earlier in 2022 — the big concern is whether you can actually manage to buy one, given Sony India’s continued inventory struggles.

The June 21 PlayStation 5 restock is just the 17th time Sony’s flagship console is being made available for pre-order in India, since its launch last February. Of course, that is far from the only hassle with buying a PlayStation 5 in India. Every single time, the likes of Croma and Games The Shop have shown themselves to be unable to handle the load. Even Amazon has had trouble a few times. Additionally, Croma, Flipkart, and Reliance Digital are also known for cancelling PS5 pre-orders due to their own technical challenges.

And while there have been no restrictions on deliveries for a while now, Sony Center website ShopAtSC continues with its COVID-19 boilerplate: “We intend to deliver your allocated stocks around 30th June 2022 and onwards — however please expect a delay in our delivery services which might get impacted due to regulations imposed by lockdown/ curfew in your locations.” Expect the rest of the official PS5 online retailers — Amazon, Croma, Flipkart, GameLoot, Games The Shop, Reliance Digital, and Vijay Sales — to be in line with Sony Center’s estimates. Though at times, we have seen some online retailers ship out their PS5 pre-orders prior to the announced delivery date.

DoT Launches Scheme for Design-Led Manufacturers, Extends PLI Scheme Duration for 5G Ecosystem

The Department of Telecom has launched an incentive scheme for design-led manufacturers and extended the duration of the Rs. 12,195 crore production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme by a year, an official statement said on Monday.

The incentive for design-led manufacturing is part of the PLI scheme which was notified on February 24, 2021. The DoT has amended the clause and made the scheme effective from April 1, 2022.

“With the objective to build a strong ecosystem for 5G, the Union Budget 2022-23 has proposed to launch a scheme for design-led manufacturing as part of the existing PLI scheme. After consultations with stakeholders, the guidelines for the PLI Scheme for telecom and networking products have been amended to introduce the Design-led Manufacturing with additional incentive rates,” the statement said.

Telecom equipment makers who use 50 percent of Made in India components in their product will be eligible for the design-linked incentive.

The new version of telecom PLI heeded to the demand of domestic manufacturers by removing the 15 percent cap on investment to be made for research and development.

The PLI has provision to provide incentive in the range of four to seven percent. The design-led manufacturers will get an additional one percent incentive over existing slabs under the PLI scheme.

The application window will open from June 21 till July 20. The incentives will be given from the Rs. 4,000 crore which is left from the total outlay.

“Further, DoT based on feedback from stakeholders including the selected PLI applicants, has decided to extend the existing PLI Scheme by one year. The existing PLI beneficiaries will be given an option to choose financial year 2021-22 or financial year 2022-23 as the first year of incentive.”

“DoT has also approved the addition of 11 new telecom and networking products to the existing list, based on suggestions from the stakeholders,” the statement added.

The Department of Telecom (DoT) had notified the PLI scheme on February 24 last year, for which a total of 31 companies, including Nokia, Foxconn, Akashastha Technologies, ITI and HFCL Group, were given approval on October 14. The approved companies have committed to make total investments of Rs. 3,345 crore by 2025-26.

The companies interested in the incentive scheme will have to satisfy the minimum global revenue criteria to be eligible. The company may decide to invest for single or multiple eligible products.

The scheme stipulates a minimum investment threshold of Rs. 10 crore for MSMEs and Rs. 100 crore for non-MSME applicants.

Land and building cost will not be counted as investment under the scheme. The allocation for MSME has been enhanced from Rs. 1,000 crore to Rs. 2,500 crore.

“The modification made in the scheme for R&D, adding new products like Open RAN (radio access network) and satellite communication equipment and extending the scheme by 1 year clearly indicates the government’s intent to incrementally incentivise India-led R&D, focus on newer technologies and deeper and widespread manufacturing in India,” EY India partner Kunal Chaudhary said.

The scheme for telecom gear manufacturing in India is expected to encourage the production of equipment worth Rs. 2.5 lakh crore and create direct and indirect employment for about 40,000 people.

The investors can earn an incentive for incremental sales up to 20 times the committed investment, enabling them to reach global scales and utilise their unused capacity and ramp up production.

Industry body ICEA’s Chairman Pankaj Mohindroo said the decisions of the DoT would not only go a long way in supporting the Indian entrepreneurs, but also ensure that India consolidates its position in the global value chain (GVC) of the electronics and mobile phone industry.

“The industry could not have expected a better time for this announcement as the global supply chain has been impacted by the geopolitical tensions after the severe hit of the pandemic. Further, the timing of the decisions also gains significance as the country has already taken a major step forward in telecom with the Union Cabinet approving the 5G spectrum auctions,” Mohindroo said.

Intel Demands $624 Million in Interest From EU After Antitrust Fine Win

The US chipmaker Intel has filed a claim for EUR 593 million (nearly $624 million or Rs. 4,800 crore) in interest from the European Commission, five months after it convinced Europe’s second-top court to scrap a EUR 1.06 billion (nearly Rs. 8,600 crore) EU antitrust fine, an EU filing showed on Monday.

Europe’s top court paved the way for such damage demands last year in a landmark ruling which ordered the EU executive to pay default interest on reimbursed fines in annulled antitrust cases.

Judges said late payment of interest will itself incur interest as well.

Intel in its application to the Luxembourg-based General Court said the Commission, which acts as the competition watchdog in the 27-country European Union, had refused to reimburse the company the default interest.

The Commission returned $1.2 billion (nearly Rs. 9,300 crore) to Intel after its court defeat in January this year.

Intel said its claim is based on an interest rate equivalent to the European Central Bank’s refinancing rate of 1.25 percent beginning from May 2009, and that this should be increased to 3.5 percent from August 2009 to February this year when the EU repaid the company fine, minus EUR 38 million (nearly Rs. 310 crore) in an interest amount paid to Intel by the Commission.

Recently, Intel also said to have announced to frozen hiring in the division responsible for PC desktop and laptop chips, according to a memo reviewed by Reuters, as part of a series of cost-cutting measures.

Intel is “pausing all hiring and placing all job requisitions on hold” in its client computing group, according to the memo sent on Wednesday. The memo said that some hiring could resume in as little as two weeks after the division re-evaluates priorities and that all current job offers in its systems will be honoured.

“We believe we are at the beginning of a long-term growth cycle across the semiconductor industry and we have the right strategy in place,” Intel said in a statement. “Increased focus and prioritisation in our spending will help us weather macroeconomic uncertainty, execute on our strategy and meet our commitments to customers, shareholders, and employees.”

Apple AR Glass Enters Design Development Stage to Debut in 2024: Report

Apple’s anticipated augmented reality (AR) glasses have entered the design development stage and will reach prototype level by the end of this year, a market research analyst has said in a note. The glasses, which are rumoured to be called the Apple AR Glass, are said to debut sometime in 2024. The analyst has also speculated whether one or two models of the iPhone 15 Pro would come with a periscope lens. The presence of the periscope lens is expected to help deliver an enhanced camera experience.

Haitong International Securities Tech Research Analyst Jeff Pu said that the prototype of the AR glasses by Apple would be ready by the end of this year, 9to5Mac reports.

The analyst has reportedly mentioned that Corning and Hoya were sampling the glass, while the glasses themselves are said to adopt the waveguide technology.

It is important to point out that the Apple AR Glass in question is expected to be a different product altogether over the rumoured mixed reality headset that is also speculated to launch as early as next year.

Last week, Pu suggested that Apple’s AR glasses would be unveiled in the second half of 2024.

Pu is also said to have questioned reports suggesting the periscope lens on the iPhone 15 Pro in the latest note. The analyst said that it wasn’t clear whether all the iPhone 15 Pro models would come with the periscope lens.

“We continue seeing a very high chance of the periscope’s adoption, with Lante being the major supplier,” the analyst said.

It is likely that the iPhone 15 Pro Max would be the model to carry the periscope lens, while it would not be available on the regular iPhone 15 Pro.

Previous reports suggested that the iPhone 15 series would come with a USB Type-C port instead of a Lightning connector. There could also be an under-display camera with Face ID.
