Echo Series Will Debut Under New Marvel Spotlight Banner to Help Reduce MCU Homework

Echo, the upcoming Marvel Studios’ web series, will kickstart a new label in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Dubbed ‘Marvel Spotlight,’ the new banner will allow audiences to jump into a superhero’s arc without worrying about continuity or having to catch up on other projects in the franchise. It is named after the anthology comic book series — originated in 1979 — serving as standalone origins stories for Spider-Woman and Ghost Rider as a gateway for new audiences. While the character of Echo, played by Alaqua Cox, was featured in the Jeremy Renner-led Hawkeye series, there’s absolutely no reason for newbies to be aware of its events.

“Marvel Spotlight gives us a platform to bring more grounded, character-driven stories to the screen, and in the case of Echo, focusing on street-level stakes over larger MCU continuity,” Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s Head of Streaming said in a prepared statement. “Just like comics fans didn’t need to read Avengers or Fantastic Four to enjoy a Ghost Rider Spotlight comic, our audience doesn’t need to have seen other Marvel series to understand what’s happening in Maya’s story.” While the concept of standalone shows under a new banner makes sense, especially considering the massive catalogue of MCU films and shows, I’m a little sceptical given how heavily the MCU is used to incorporating callbacks and easter eggs to other films. I wouldn’t be surprised if the series finale ended with a post-credits scene that tied it into Hawkeye or some larger event in the franchise.

A complete detachment from other projects is pretty much impossible since Echo is poised to have run-ins with Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and her adoptive father Kingpin, played by Vincent D’Onofrio. The new Disney+ Daredevil arc is also undergoing a complete reboot, so who knows where that story is headed. Regardless, Marvel Studios has now indirectly admitted that there’s way too much content to comb through and that it’s basically crumbling under its own weight since the epic saga began with 2008’s Iron Man. Teenagers who grew up with those movies are adults now, and it’s kind of silly to expect a new generation of audience to keep up with 15 years’ worth of lore — especially when the superhero movie fatigue is at an all-time high. With new projects piling on, it’s better to make a distinction between larger MCU tales and the stories that are disconnected from it — while still retaining the same actors.

Try not to confuse this with DC Studios’ Elseworlds strategy, which is set to introduce two Batmen — Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II and Andy Muschietti’s The Brave and the Bold — whose unique arcs run parallel to each other. The stories told in Marvel Spotlight do eventually tie into the larger MCU mythos, but you don’t need to do any homework to get into them. Last week, the studio dropped the first trailer for Echo, which showed Wilson Fisk protecting and raising a deaf Native American Maya Lopez into an adept assassin. Canonically, set after the events of Hawkeye, the five-episode series will see her try to reconnect with her Native roots while resolving some deep vendetta with her adoptive father.

All five episodes of Echo drop January 10 on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar.

Marvel Reportedly Considered Bringing Original Avengers Cast for New Movie, Replacing Jonathan Majors, More

Marvel Studios reportedly held talks to bring back the original cast members for a new Avengers movie. As per Variety, studio executives, including President Kevin Feige, recently discussed the idea of reviving Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/ Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff/ Black Widow for a new saga — albeit they aren’t committed to it. It’s not even surprising to see something like this happen in a superhero movie, given comic books are notorious for killing off characters and resurrecting them. However, doing so in Hollywood could require a big investment, with the report noting that Downey’s salary for 2013’s Iron Man 3 was $25 million (about Rs. 208 crore).

Marvel has released some stinkers this year, with both its slate of films and TV shows like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Secret Invasion releasing to widespread negative reception. With films in Phase Four failing to impress despite commercial success, and its Phase Five faltering, it’s hardly surprising that Marvel is considering getting the old band back together. But betting on something this monumental could be risky — even if the fans would be excited about it.

You see, the reason the Russo Brothers’ Avengers: Endgame performed well at the box office was partly because of its conclusive ending. The movie was fitting culmination of years of hype and character development over 22 preceding films. Reviving characters just out of the blue would raise questions about canon events, in addition to being an extremely obvious attempt to capture the long-lost Marvel magic that had audiences lining up at theatres at midnight. The superhero movie fatigue has never been so clear, and the MCU is still trying to salvage what they can to deliver a proper ending to the Multiverse Saga.

According to the Variety report, discussions also focused on the franchise’s current main villain Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors, who’s been involved in legal issues this year. The actor was arrested in March on charges of domestic violence, with Disney seemingly in wait to see how the ordeal plays out. Majors’ upcoming film Avengers: The Kang Dynasty isn’t slated to begin filming until 2024. The actor was eventually dropped by his managers and hit with more allegations, as he now prepares to stand for a trial in November. The controversy has caused Marvel executives to consider another key villain, the genius Dr. Doom — a huge shift, considering the studio has built up Kang to be the ultimate adversary through both seasons of Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Variety’s sources, however, insist that Marvel had considered building up a new villain regardless of Majors’ legal run-ins, owing to Quantumania’s poor box office performance.

A chunk of the film’s criticism stemmed from subpar CGI, with VFX artists pointing fingers at Marvel Studios for diverting all its major resources towards other films like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever — thereby leading to time constraints. Long working hours and unrealistic deadlines caused the VFX department to unionise in September, with some claiming that the VFX head Victoria Alonso was responsible for the lacklustre effects. She was fired in March, citing a contract breach, albeit insiders believed that quality assurance was freefalling since they began dishing out Disney+ Marvel shows. Meanwhile, another group claims that Alonso was simply a ‘scapegoat’ and that the CGI issues in the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law show stemmed from scripting and scheduling conflicts, causing artists to fix them in post-production.

The studio prepares for its newest film on November 10The Marvels starring Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris, which was made on a $250 million (about Rs. 2,081 crore) budget. The report notes that the film warranted four weeks of reshoots, with its director Nia DaCosta heading out to work on another movie during the post-production stage. “If you’re directing a $250 million movie, it’s kind of weird for the director to leave with a few months to go,” Variety’s source claimed.

Furthermore, the long-gestating Blade reboot film starring Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali, which has cycled through multiple writers and directors, is being tweaked from the ground up. Turns out, the vampire tale once morphed into a ‘narrative led by women and filled with life lessons,’ while the lead was buried way below. Ali, at one point, was willing to leave the project due to script issues, but Feige then hired Logan writer Michael Green to whip up a fresh story, which will be developed at a $100 million (about Rs. 832 crore) budget. Blade is now eyeing a release sometime in 2025.

Loki Season 2 Premiere Draws 10.9 Million Viewers Globally in Just Three Days

Loki season 2 is celebrating a solid opening weekend. As per Disney, the premiere racked up an impressive 10.9 million viewers globally during its first three days, since its October 5 premiere in the US (October 6 in India, and everywhere else). With these numbers, it has become the second-most-watched premiere of 2023, sitting right behind The Mandalorian season 3, which dropped in March. A view is calculated by hours viewed divided by the total runtime of a film or show, which is the same format Netflix embraced in June. Given Loki season 2 episode 1 has a 45-minute runtime, the total viewed hours equate to 490.5 million minutes/ 8.17 million hours.

These are great numbers for Disney+, whose Marvel Cinematic Universe small-screen lineup has struggled to gain mass appeal. For instance, their newest Samuel L. Jackson-led Secret Invasion premiere only drew 994,000 viewers in the US, within the first five days. While Disney hasn’t released regional breakdowns for Loki season 2’s viewership, its popularity is clear as day, considering the streamer is confident enough to release numbers within just three days. You see, it was only recently that Disney started reporting viewership numbers, and even then, they were all based on a five-day time span. The Star Wars series Ahsoka opened to 14 million views, with two extra days, proving that Loki’s numbers are stronger.

The same five-day tally system is being applied to Disney+’s movies as well, with The Little Mermaid live-action remake pulling in 16 million views and Elemental reporting 26.4 million views. It’s not surprising to see Loki season 2 doing well, given the first season was Marvel’s most successful show, as confirmed by MCU President Kevin Feige in 2022. The new chapter sees Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as the titular God of Mischief and embarking on time-hopping adventures with an alternate version of TVA agent Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson), who doesn’t recognise him. Loki’s plans to reunite with his original team hits a hurdle when his body begins to distort and plops him into past and future timelines. Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once) is a new addition to the cast, playing a TVA archivist OB.

Late last month, Disney+ confirmed in an email to its Canadian subscribers that it will begin restricting password sharing, starting November 1, a lot sooner than CEO Bob Iger’s original plans. The terms were quite unclear, but it suggested that users would soon be prohibited from sharing accounts with those outside their ‘household’ — which refers to devices associated with a primary personal address. The company will constantly monitor user activity and if it detects a user breaking the rules, it will limit access to streaming or entirely terminate the account. Netflix was the first to crack down on password-sharing and in the process, gained 6 million new subscribers in July.

New episodes of Loki season 2 drop every Friday on Disney+ Hotstar.

Sony Locks Dates for Two Untitled Marvel Movies for 2024 and 2025

Sony Pictures has locked dates for two untitled Marvel movies in the coming years. One of them is labelled ‘untitled Sony/Marvel,’ slated to release November 8, 2024, while the other is marked as ‘untitled Sony/Marvel live-action,’ on track for June 27, 2025. For now, it’s up for speculation what these movies could be, but Venom 3 and the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man 4 are among the top candidates. It’s also worth noting that the former slot does not specify a live-action format, so it could mean that Sony is planning more animated projects after the successful Spider-Verse movies.

The first Sony/Marvel movie — set for November 8 — has a clear runway for two weeks, after which it will compete with Paramount’s Gladiator sequel on November 22, 2024. Meanwhile, the second entry will be in direct competition with Dwayne Johnson’s live-action Moana movie on June 27, 2025 — the latter was recently moved up by a week in Disney’s calendar shake-up. Going by recent rumours of a Halloween release window, the first slot could also be filled by Venom 3, whose star Juno Temple (Ted Lasso) confirmed in a recent interview that filming was scheduled to start ‘very, very soon’. Taking the ongoing Hollywood writers’ strike into account which is delaying production, this seems like a fair assumption.

It’s clear that Sony is looking to expand its Spider-Man universe, even transporting Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock/ Venom into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, during a mid-credits scene in Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The studio has multiple storylines in the works with solid release dates: the Aaron Taylor-Johnson-led Kraven the Hunter (October 6), Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (March 29, 2024), Bad Bunny’s El Muerto (January 12, 2024), and Madame Web (February 16, 2024) starring Dakota Johnson in the lead. Reports from earlier this year also confirmed some Spider-Man live-action TV series to be in development, including Spider-Man Noir and Silk: Spider Society. They will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video in the future.

Moreover, producer Amy Pascal confirmed recently that the fourth Spider-Man film with Holland and Zendaya has paused development due to the writers’ strike. “Are we going to make another movie? Of course, we are,” she told Variety, late last month. “We’re in the process, but with the writers’ strike, nobody is working during the strike. We’re all being supporters and whenever they get themselves together, we’ll get started.” Its lead Holland is already eight months into his one-year break from acting, so if the strike ends within the next couple of months, the timing for his return couldn’t be more appropriate. Finally, let’s not ignore the live-action Miles Morales film that’s already in the works at Sony Pictures — coming off the heels of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’s successful release, which surpassed its prequel Into the Spider-Verse’s total gross within just 12 days. The sequel has earned $412.5 million (about Rs. 3,378 crore) at the global box office.

MCU’s Thunderbolts casts Oscar-nominated Steven Yeun: Report

Hollywood star Steven Yeun is set to make his debut in Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with the upcoming movie Thunderbolts, according to a report.

The film, which was officially announced at Disney’s D23 Expo in 2022, is based around a team of Marvel supervillains — in what seems like Marvel’s attempt at its own Suicide Squad — reported American outlet Deadline.

Yeun, known for his performances in The Walking Dead show and movies such as Okja, Minari, and Nope, will play a key role in the Marvel Studios film, which could further extend to other related projects.

He joins an ensemble cast that includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as the Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.

A report from last year suggested that Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones movies) was joining the cast of Thunderbolts as well, replacing the late William Hurt as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. But before that, he will make an appearance in Captain America: New World Order as the blustering General, which marks the penultimate entry in MCU’s Phase 5 — releasing May 3, 2024. Thunderbolts is the final entry in the phase.

Jake Schreier of Paper Towns-fame will direct the film from a script by Black Widow writer Eric Pearson. The movie is scheduled for release on July 26, 2024.

In the Marvel comics, the Thunderbolts is a team of villains, anti-heroes and reformed baddies.

Yeun will next be seen in Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho’s next feature film Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattinson in the lead.

Loki Season 2, Star Wars’ Ahsoka First Looks Lead Disney+ 2023 Sizzle Reel

Disney+ has revealed the first look at Loki season 2 and Star Wars series Ahsoka, via a sizzle reel that highlights upcoming releases on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar in 2023. Narrated by lead Tom Hiddleston himself, the footage for the next chapter of Loki promises more “over the top” time-hopping adventures, as Loki finds himself in an alternate Time Variance Authority, with Owen Wilson’s returning agent character Mobius M. Mobius. The Disney+ 2023 trailer also offers a brief glimpse at Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, who is getting her own eponymous Star Wars limited series, following a first appearance in The Mandalorian.

Loki season 2 first look

The tease for Loki season 2 features an interesting bit of banter between the God of Mischief (Hiddleston) and agent Mobius (Owen Wilson), though he’s speaking to three variants of Loki, all dressed in dapper suits, in a dark, silent alley. In the background, you can see an old-school motorcycle, which might indicate that our heroes travelled back to the past. Bear in mind, that since this is a new timeline, this version of Mobius does not even recognise Loki. Also, Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) is in charge of the TVA, while its non-hostile multidimensional variant “He Who Remains” was stabbed to death by Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) in season 1. Loki season 2 is set to return in the summer of 2023, but before that, a variant of the villainous Kang will appear in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, slated to release in February next year.

Ahsoka first look teaser

Meanwhile, in the galaxy far, far away, Ahsoka Tano is getting a standalone live-action series headlined by Dawson. Dave Filoni, who helmed The Mandalorian, returns as writer and creator of the limited series, which he is also attached to produce alongside Jon Favreau (Iron Man). Very little is known about the plot for Ahsoka. Ahsoka enlists Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane). Filming on Ahsoka began in May, but there’s no information on a release window for the same.

More on Disney+, Disney+ Hotstar in 2023

That said, the Disney+ sizzle reel also featured some clips from The Mandalorian season 3, which is on track to premiere on March 1, 2023. It was originally eyeing a February window, and has now undergone a month-long delay.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is also headed to Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar in 2023, following its theatrical debut on November 11. The much-awaited sequel served as a tribute to the late actor Chadwick Boseman and has collected $788 million (about Rs. 6,519 crore) at the global box office. When out, Black Panther 2 should be available to stream in English and multiple regional languages.

From the same universe, we also get a new look at Secret Invasion, featuring Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Martin Freeman as CIA agent Everett K. Ross, and Emilia Clarke as special agent Abigail Brand. The live-action series will kick off the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 5 on the small screen, and is aiming for an early 2023 release.

Acclaimed genre filmmaker David Lowery (The Green Knight) returns to Disney once more, with a “live-action” remake of the original 1953 film Peter Pan & Wendy. Streaming next year, exclusively on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar, we get some quick shots of our lead characters.

Towards the end, there are tiny glimpses of American Born Chinese, based on the eponymous graphic novel, Pixar’s TV series Win or Lose, Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 2, Crater, and more.

Aquaman Paved the Way for Namor’s Introduction in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Director Ryan Coogler Says

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler has credited Aquaman for paving the way for Namor’s introduction. The director recently discussed in an interview how the creative team at Marvel aimed to distinguish their underwater antihero from DC Comics’ god-like counterpart, trying to understand what the superhero fanbase might respond to. “I do think that having Aquaman out in the world, in film language, and being successful in the marketplace, I think it was a great bit of indirect guidance for us to lean into the things that made Namor different from Aquaman,” he said.

Coogler went on to suggest that antiheroes like Namor, also known as the Sub-Mariner, had been collecting dust for years, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe prioritised other characters. While both Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Tenoch Huerta’s Namor are rulers of their individual submerged realms, there are a few aspects that separate the two. For starters, the latter is an antihero, sporting winged ankles and separated by two worlds — the surface and underwater — adding an extra level of inner conflict. “He has to be very confident and dangerous,” Coogler explained. “It’s always interesting. He has to be charismatic. Namor, in the comics, is very romantic. He hits on other people’s wives, you know what I’m saying?”

Black Panther Wakanda Forever Review: Not Even Ryan Coogler Can Save Marvel’s Phase Four

However, adding a romantic flair to the character would mess with the tonal aspects of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which to an extent, serves as a sentimental tribute to the late lead from the original 2018 film, Chadwick Boseman. In this case, a key theme was cultural specificity, as the kingdoms of Talokan and Wakanda clash with each other. “The grey area comes about: this idea of a family drama mixed with a geopolitical thriller, mixed with a little bit of crime film,” Coogler added. “Through the story of him and his mom, and her life and her death, impacted his view of the world. That gave us the other element of Namor in the publishing, its extreme xenophobia.”

This is in stark contrast to DC Comics’ Aquaman, who while being conceived by a human father and Atlantean mother, was treated as an outcast, developing contempt for the underwater kingdom and its people, and no inclinations toward ruling it. Released in 2018, Aquaman also presented Arthur Curry (Momoa) with a charming, goofy-ish personality, whereas Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s Namor was fuelled by rage, growing up with a hatred for surface dwellers and anticipating an attack from the fictional East African realm at any given second.

It is also worth mentioning that canonically, the Sub-Mariner’s kingdom in Marvel comics is called Atlantis as well, akin to DC Comics’ version. But, the MCU Phase Four film rebranded it to Talokan, a name likely derived from “Tlālōcān,” described as an Aztec paradise ruled by rain deity Tlāloc. The moniker change allowed Coogler to connect Namor to Mesoamerica mythology, creating a richer sense of world-building whilst avoiding any parallels with Aquaman’s Atlantis.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever clawed its way to an impressive $330 million (about Rs. 2,700 crore) at the global box office, climbing the ranks as the second-biggest theatrical opening this year. The $250 million production faced a few hurdles, ranging from on-set injury, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the demise of lead Boseman, triggering a rewrite of the movie script.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now showing in Indian theatres in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Post-Credits Scene, Explained

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever — now playing in cinemas worldwide — ends with the words “The Black Panther will return,” just as with the most recent Marvel Cinematic Universe movie before it, Thor: Love and Thunder. It essentially promises that the titular superhero and the world of Wakanda will be back for more. While there hasn’t been any announcement on that front, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige did say that he has had discussions on a third Black Panther movie with Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler. And if you were hoping that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever post-credits scene would offer any clues in that regard, well there aren’t any. That said, it does give us something that has never happened in the comics — and finds a way forward for the character of T’Challa, who was retired after the death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020.

Warning: spoilers ahead for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Proceed at your own risk.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever post-credits scene, explained

The mid-credits scene in the new Black Panther movie picks up right where the movie ends: on a Haitian beach. A crying Shuri (Letitia Wright) is joined by Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and a young boy (Divine Love Konadu-Sun). Nakia says that he’s her son Toussaint, she had him before T’Challa/ Black Panther (Boseman) died, and she now wants to introduce him to his “auntie” Shuri. Now, though the word auntie is more flexible in African cultures — as it is in India — it’s immediately clear to everyone in the room who his father is. Thankfully, the movie doesn’t dance around it for long either.

Black Panther 2 Review: Not Even Ryan Coogler Can Save Marvel’s Phase 4

Nakia tells Shuri that T’Challa suggested they settle outside of Wakanda, which would allow Toussaint to grow up without the pressure of the throne. And though they knew of T’Challa’s illness, he didn’t want them at his funeral. That would’ve thrust the boy into the Wakandan limelight at the worst possible time. Nakia and Toussaint did have their own little ceremony for him, she adds. This also explains Nakia’s absence from Wakanda — and the early running of the new Black Panther movie. Shuri wonders if her late mother, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), had met Toussaint. Nakia says yes.

Shuri and Toussaint exchange their first words, with the boy noting he’s heard his auntie is good at keeping secrets. Toussaint is his Haitian name, he adds. When Shuri asks who he is in their native tongue, he replies: “I’m Prince T’Challa, son of King T’Challa.” Coogler and Feige said they weren’t going to ever recast T’Challa, so they have found the next best step for Black Panther’s future. Give T’Challa a kid (and give him the same name too), who will age into him eventually. These are big shoes for an actor to fill in like 15–20 years.

To me, this is also interesting on a political level. T’Challa and Nakia were never officially married, on screen at least. How will Wakanda’s many tribes take to a child of their late king who goes by his name but hasn’t lived among them. Will he be accepted? And though he may be the firstborn son of the late king, Wakanda doesn’t really operate like that. Anyone can challenge to be the Black Panther and assume the throne. M’Baku enters the fray at the end of Wakanda Forever — and of course, there’s Shuri, who has assumed the mantle of Black Panther.

But given the boy’s age, it’s not something a Black Panther film will need to deal with for a long time. And who knows what shape Wakanda will be in by then.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now playing in cinemas worldwide. In India, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is available in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

Jamie Lee Curtis Clearly Isn’t an MCU Fan, Asks Drew Barrymore: “Is There a Really Handsome Marvel Character?”

Just a few months ago, Jamie Lee Curtis admitted she has “seen a lot of Marvel movies.” But after today’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Showwhere the actress seemingly had no idea the MCU was flooded with hot guys, we are calling that statement into question.

While hosting the Drew’s News segment from Comic Con, the same place Barrymore admitted to getting sent “straight to the hospital” while watching Halloween high, the talk show host asked the Halloween Ends star what superpower her former Scream Queens co-star John Stamos would have if he joined the MCU. The question came after it was reported that Stamos said he would join “in a flash” if they came calling.

“Is there a really handsome Marvel character?” Curtis asked. “Because John Stamos is just drop-it handsome.”

Let’s see: Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Paul Rudd, etc. The list goes on. Even I, who could tell you absolutely nothing about Marvel, know that. Luckily, Barrymore also knew, and told her guest, “I think there are a lot of hot guys,” to which she asked, “Are there? Are there hot Marvels?”

Barrymore responded, “There are, yeah. You marvel at these Marvels. There’s just a corral of studs. Absolutely.”

Either Curtis is so happily married she never noticed Hemsworth’s abs and flowing blonde locks or she’s never actually paid attention to the MCU. And since I’ve known even the happiest of wives who can’t help but gawk over Thor, we’re going to have to go with the latter.

The Scream Queen then said that she would make Stamos “mean” since he’s “already a superhero” in real life. However, she noted, “I’d like him to still be a really hot bad guy.”

Uncle Jesse as a villain? She may be onto something. If it all works out, I think we can forgive her for not knowing how many hot dudes are already in the franchise.

The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays at 9:30 a.m. ET on CBS.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Episode 9 Introduces The Hulk’s Son Skaar

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law finale has introduced the Hulk’s son Skaar. Wrapping up its first season with episode 9, Marvel’s superhero legal comedy went full meta on its audience, before bringing back Jennifer Walters’ cousin, Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo). Hulk is back from his trip to Sakaar, the garbage planet, bringing with him his long-lost offspring Skaar (Wil Deusner). The introduction opens pathways for new storylines in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. All episodes of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law are out now on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar.

The first season of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law ended on a bombastic note, with Walters (Tatiana Maslany) breaking the fourth wall, and entering the Marvel Studios writing room, questioning the choices that led to her spotlight getting stolen in the episode. Following that altercation, we are treated to a pleasant get-together, with Matt Murdock/ Daredevil (Charlie Cox’s) being introduced to the Walters family.

The jolly mood is briefly interrupted when her cousin, Professor Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), shows up at the occasion. “I know I’ve been away on Sakaar for a while. I’ll tell you all about it,” he says. “But first, I have someone here that I’d like you all to meet.” He steps aside, revealing his alien son Skaar, garbed in a warrior’s outfit and a peculiar hairstyle. Deusner, best known for The CW Network’s Stargirl, is credited as the actor.

She-Hulk episode 9: Who is Skaar?

We have yet to learn about the events leading up to this reveal, but it is known that Banner spends a good amount of time, smashing opponents in Sakaar’s gladiator arena. The planet was first introduced in director Taika Waititi’s 2017 film, Thor: Ragnarok. In the Marvel comics, Hulk falls in love with a fellow warrior, Caiera the Oldstrong, eventually resulting in the offspring Skaar. This is explored in Greg Pak’s “Planet Hulk” storyline, where Hulk leads an uprising against the Sakaarian king, gets married to Caiera, and starts ruling the planet.

Unfortunately, the latter dies in a spacecraft explosion, causing Hulk to blame the Illuminati — introduced in the MCU in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness — and set off on an act of bloodthirsty revenge. However, the son survives. Abandoned on the hostile planet amongst all kinds of perilous creatures, he grows at an abnormal rate with murder on his mind.

The She-Hulk finale features the father-son reunion, though Skaar’s facial expression suggests a lack of interest. Perhaps there are still some unresolved issues between the two? Another takeaway is his hairstyle, which is super different from the portrayal in the comics, where he sports long, flowy hair.
