PS5 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Bundle Launches in India Tomorrow, Priced at Rs. 49,390

Sony is gearing up to launch the PS5’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III bundle in India. The cross-gen package will be available from November 10 onwards, but unlike in the US, the publisher isn’t selling the new slim version of the console here yet. Players will receive the standard 4K Blu-ray drive-equipped PS5, alongside a voucher code for Activision’s upcoming marquee shooter, at Rs. 49,390. This is part of an ‘introductory offer’ running until November 23, during which the bundle’s price has been slashed by Rs. 10,000 — after which, it will cost Rs. 59,390, which is the base price for any PS5 game bundle.

PlayStation has been ramping up marketing in India recently by offering numerous discounts on the PS5 and bundling it up with on-demand games like God of War Ragnarök, Spider-Man 2, EA Sports FC 24, and even Cricket 24 (to coincide with the ICC World Cup). It’s interesting to note, however, that the Modern Warfare 3 bundle available in the US is reportedly including the game worth $70 (about Rs. 5,830) for free with the PS5 Slim variant at a gross total of $499.99 (about Rs. 41,640). Meanwhile, players in India get treated to the same old version of PS5, where technically speaking, the game isn’t included for free in the bundle.

You see, a PS5 disc variant costs Rs. 54,990 in India, while the upcoming Call of Duty game is priced at Rs. 5,599 on the PlayStation store — totalling Rs. 60,589. Sure, the limited-time sale makes it way cheaper — at Rs. 49,390 — but once it’s over, you’re paying the full price. As usual, it will be available to buy from the usual Indian retailers like Amazon, Chroma, Flipkart, GamestheShop, Reliance Digital, ShopatSC, and Vijay Sales.

For now, it’s unclear when the slimmer version of the PS5 will arrive in India and if so, whether it will be priced similar to the current version. Sony previously suggested that once it manages to sell off the older models, only the new slim ones will be made available to purchase. It’s simply 30 percent smaller than the original version and comes with a detachable disc drive, which requires an internet connection to register/ bind it to the console. Hardware is all around the same, but the internal storage has been upgraded from an 825GB to a 1TB SSD. A digital PS5 slim variant is also available at $449.99 (about Rs. 37,400), albeit it’s more of a marketing gimmick since one can buy the Blu-ray drive separately and install it themselves.

Elsewhere, Sony has delayed half the total live service games it had planned to launch by March 2026 — down from 12 to six titles. During an earnings call, Sony PlayStation COO Hiroki Totoki said (via VGC), “We are reviewing this… we are trying as much as possible to ensure [that these games] are enjoyed and liked by gamers for a long time. [Out of] the 12 titles, six titles will be released by FY25 — that’s our current plan.” He further added that the remaining six will be evaluated further to see their potential — possibly another meeting with Destiny 2 maker Bungie to review the live service portfolio. It’s also worth mentioning that The Last of Us multiplayer game, which was allegedly put ‘on ice,’ is still in active development — as confirmed by its director Vinit Agarwal.

PS5 to Receive Another Rs. 7,500 Discount From August 24 in India: All Details

Sony has planned yet another promotional sale for the PS5 in India, promising a discount of Rs. 7,500. The offer is only applicable on the 4K Bluray-equipped disc version of the console, and goes live Thursday, August 24, at select online and brick-and-mortar retailers. The sale is slated to run for nine days, going into September 2, and will cut the price down to Rs. 47,490. The drop is exactly the same as the July sale, so in case you missed that one, now would be a good time to snag a PS5. While supply shortages are certainly not an issue anymore, we’d suggest being a little prepared since flocks of gamers coming together to buy the console (online) could cause server loads.

This marks the second time Sony has offered a discount for the current-gen console since its price hike in November 2022, where the aforementioned disc version’s price went up by 10 percent. It is worth mentioning that neither the Digital version nor any game bundle variants are receiving any offer — unless a store decides to implement its own discount. As per a press release, when it comes to online retailers, the 15 percent discount will be live on Amazon India, Croma, Flipkart, Games the Shop, Reliance Digital, ShopatSC, Vijay Sales, and other ‘select retailers.’ Meanwhile, industry insider Rishi Alwani speculated that sales targets for the PS5 in India could be lagging far behind, hence a second sale has been offered within a one-month period.

He also added that back-to-back promotional offers in close proximity have got nothing to do with making room for the long-rumoured PS5 Slim or PS5 Pro consoles. Earlier this month, a leaked video showed a slightly slimmer version of the console, sporting a new cover, dual USB Type-C ports in the front, and a bulge on the side for what’s assumed to be space for a detachable disc drive. An Insider Gaming report from last year confirmed similar details about the newly revised console, which also lines up with Microsoft’s claims during its court battle against the US FTC, in early July. The Xbox parent company believes that Sony has got a less-expensive PS5 Slim model planned for release — costing $399.99 (about Rs. 33,093) — later this year. For now, it’s unclear what improvements the new console’s bringing with it, though if the leaked video is anything to go by, calling it ‘Slim’ is an exaggeration.

More recently, Sony began rolling out beta access to cloud streaming on the PS5, with select PS Plus Premium members being able to stream games at up to 4K resolution. Subscribers will be able to play a bunch of titles from the cloud without actually owning or downloading them on their console. For beta testing, players can choose between four main resolutions — 720p, 1080p, 1440p, and 2160p — and test a catalogue of 12 games, which includes God of War Ragnarök, Death Stranding, Demon’s Souls, Horizon Forbidden West, and more.

PS5 India Restock: PlayStation 5 Pre-Orders to Go Live on March 10

Sony is gearing up for a PS5 restock this month, and it’s a big one. The company confirmed that the next batch of pre-orders for the current-gen console is slated to go live on Friday, March 10, at 12pm. Pre-bookings are open across three options — the disc-less PS5 Digital Edition, the bulky 4K Blu-ray drive-equipped disc variant, and a God of War Ragnarök bundle. PS5 restocks in India have been frequent recently, with February seeing two pre-order batches, and brick-and-mortar stores also showing promise when it comes to stock.

Back in January, at the CES 2023 event, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan had promised that gamers would have an “easier time” getting their hands on a PS5 since the pandemic era, which caused global chip and inventory supply shortages. Seeing the recent restocking and readily available units at stores, it seems his words hold true for the Indian market as well. Going by past restock events, the PS5s are expected to be up for pre-order on Croma, Flipkart, Gameloot, and Vijay Sales as well. As usual, be fully prepared to book your PS5 unit at 12pm, as these essentially function like a flash sale.

For now, the Sony Centre website lets you enter details to be notified when the PS5 pre-order goes live, while Gameloot has some pre-owned and repaired units for sale — all on a 1-month warranty. The former also continues with a warning for delays in their services, owing to curfews and lockdowns in select regions. No word on when these new PS5 pre-orders begin shipping, but once it starts, the units are expected to reach customers within 14 days.

Last month, Sony held a PlayStation State of Play event focused on Rocksteady Studios’ new Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and some PS VR2 games. Currently, there are no details from Sony India regarding a PS VR2 launch in the country. The company also showed off the new games coming to its PS Plus service in March, which include Battlefield 2042, Minecraft Dungeons, and Code Vein.

PS5 India Restock: PlayStation 5 Pre-Orders to Go Live on February 22

Sony is gearing up for another PS5 restock this month. The company has confirmed in a press release that the next batch of pre-orders for the current-gen PlayStation console in India is slated to go live on Wednesday, February 22, at 12pm. Pre-bookings will be open for both bundles and standalone units — specifically the 4K Bluray disc drive-equipped versions. This marks the second PS5 restock this month, following the pre-order event on February 7 — the second time such an anomaly has occurred since the initial PS5 launch in India. The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in global chip shortages around the world, reducing the chances of acquiring a PS5, though now, it seems like things are headed in a positive direction.

At CES 2023, earlier this year, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan announced that gamers should have a much “easier time” finding a PS5 from local retailers. While its implications on the Indian market were unclear at the time, plenty of brick-and-mortar stores and even the Mumbai Comic-Con event had enough stock for purchase — both console and accessories, separately. PS5 prices shot up in November, with the bulkier disc variant now costing Rs. 54,990, while the Digital Edition coming in at Rs. 44,990. This marks a 12.5 and 10 percent increase, respectively. In a blog post in August last year, Sony had attributed the price hike in select markets, including Asia-Pacific, to global economic environment and high inflation rates.

At the time of writing, the Sony Center PS5 store page simply lets you enter contact details to be notified of when the stocks are available. The delivery details haven’t been updated from last restock either, which said that orders should start shipping out by February 21. It also features a delay warning depending on lockdown/ curfew restrictions in select regions. Purchase choices were limited recently, but earlier this month, Sony India broke the mould by offering two alternatives to pick from — a God of War Ragnarök bundle, priced at Rs. 59,390 and a standalone disc-drive-equipped unit for Rs. 54,990.

PS5 India November 11 Restock: How to Pre-Order PlayStation 5, PS5 Digital Edition Horizon Forbidden West Bundles

PS5’s November restock, the first since the recent price hike, is here. Today at 12pm noon, both variants of Sony’s elusive next-gen console — the Rs. 54,990 4K Blu-ray-equipped PS5, and its Rs. 44,990 disc-less counterpart PS5 Digital Edition — will be up for pre-order in India. Except just like in August, they will only be offered in a bundle with Horizon Forbidden West, the PlayStation-exclusive action RPG that was released back in February. Weirdly, there’s no sign of a God of War Ragnarök bundle — that is being offered in other parts of the world — even as Sony India went all out on the marketing of the new PlayStation-exclusive action-adventure game released this week on both PS4 and PS5.

Owing to the rise of PS5’s price in India, the PS5 Horizon Forbidden West bundle is similarly impacted. The HFW bundle with the 4K Blu-ray-equipped PS5 has shot up by Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 58,990, while the Digital Edition HFW bundle is now priced at Rs. 48,490, an increase of Rs. 4,500 over August prices. At this point unfortunately, this isn’t really a saving — you’re paying more if anything. Horizon Forbidden West bundle was discounted to Rs. 1,499 during Amazon’s Great Indian Festival sale, and Rs. 2,839 during a PlayStation Store sale in August and September. (Do note that the PS4 version can be upgraded for free to the PS5 variant.)

Still, those who haven’t managed to get their hands on a PS5 yet may not care. If you are trying to buy PlayStation 5 and PS5 Digital Edition Horizon Forbidden West bundles online, you can do that on Amazon, Croma, e2z Store, Flipkart, Game Loot, Games The Shop, Reliance Digital, Sony Center, and Vijay Sales. You can also check out game stores near you. Those tend to be a better shot at times. Though as has been the case for over a year now, the big concern is whether you can actually manage to buy one, given Sony India’s continued PS5 inventory struggles. Microsoft’s Xbox Series X — the PS5’s biggest rival — is doing much better now in that regard, though that also says a lot about respective demand.

Of course, that is far from the only hassle with buying a PlayStation 5 in India. Every single time, the likes of Croma and Games The Shop have shown themselves to be unable to handle the load. Even Amazon has had trouble a few times. Additionally, Croma, Flipkart, and Reliance Digital are also known for cancelling PS5 pre-orders due to their own technical challenges.

PS5’s July restock is here, and it’s a unique one. Today at 12pm noon, only the disc-less variant of Sony’s elusive next-gen console — PS5 Digital Edition, priced at Rs. 39,990 — will be up for pre-order in India. This has never happened before, going back to the India launch of the PlayStation 5 in February 2020. In every restock since, Sony India has offered the Rs. 49,990 Blu-ray-equipped PS5 on its own, or along with the PS5 Digital Edition, and in recent months, the Gran Turismo 7 bundle. This also means that for the first time since November 2021, the more expensive PlayStation 5 won’t have a monthly restock in India. Hopefully, things return to normal in August.

Gran Turismo 7 released back in March — to heavy backlash from fans owing to microtransactions and grind-based economy — and with Sony India still bundling it, it seems like Sony has more Gran Turismo 7 copies that have remained unsold. Its Blu-ray-devoid sibling PS5 Digital Edition has fared even poorer, with this being only the 10th time interested buyers have had the opportunity to pre-order one. Of course, that is far from the only hassle with buying a PlayStation 5 in India. Every single time, the likes of Croma and Games The Shop have shown themselves to be unable to handle the load. Even Amazon has had trouble a few times. Additionally, Croma, Flipkart and Reliance Digital are also known for cancelling PS5 pre-orders due to their own technical challenges.

Curiously, Sony Center website ShopAtSC hasn’t given us an expected shipping date for the May 13 PS5 restock. At the time of writing, its FAQ page — which continued to carry a COVID-19 boilerplate long after delivery restrictions had been removed — hasn’t been updated this time around. Going by earlier estimations, the shipping date for the new PS5 pre-orders should be a week to 10 days from May 13. Whatever it is, all official PS5 online retailers — including Amazon, Croma, Flipkart, GameLoot, Games The Shop, Reliance Digital, and Vijay Sales — should be in line with Sony Center. Though at times, we have seen some online retailers ship out their PS5 pre-orders prior to the announced delivery date too.

Sony India’s retail shops Sony Center have their own website through which you can buy PlayStation 5. ShopAtSC offers free home delivery from the nearest Sony Center, but you can also choose to pick up from the nearest store once the first orders are shipped.

You will need an account to buy the PS5 from ShopAtSC. Create one in advance to speed up checkout. If you previously bought a PS5 or PS5 Digital Edition, you won’t be able to buy another from the same account, ShopAtSC says. The site does have a notify me button in case you want to set that up.

Shop at SC offers low-cost EMIs on select credit cards, and easy EMI options on most debit and credit cards.

The PS5 restock is also available on Amazon’s India affiliate that will offer free home delivery across India. You don’t need to be an Amazon Prime member to get free delivery.

Mumbai-headquartered Vijay Sales is also offering the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition on its website — its stores have also opened up across India. It too will offer free home delivery on every purchase.

You do not need an account to buy the PS5 from Vijay Sales, but you will need to provide your mobile number and email address as a guest.

Vijay Sales offers 7.5 percent instant discount up to Rs. 7,500 or Rs. 3,000 on EMI transactions with HSBC and Standard Chartered credit cards respectively, and 10 percent instant discount up to Rs. 2,000 on OneCard credit cards. There’s also a 5 percent instant discount up to Rs. 2,000 on EMI transactions with IndusInd Bank credit cards.
