Redmi A3 May Get Larger Display, Camera Module; Key Specifications Tipped Via Retail Box Leak

Redmi A3 is expected to launch soon as a successor to the Remdi A2, which was introduced in India in May 2023 alongside the Redmi A2+. The purported handset, like its predecessors, is tipped to be a budget offering, the cheapest among all the Redmi models available in the market. However, the Redmi A3 may come with some significant upgrades over the older models. Previously, the phone has been spotted on several certification sites and listed on select retail stores, as well. Now, the retail box of the rumoured handset has leaked suggesting some key specifications.

A GSMArena report shared images of the Redmi A3 retail box. On the box, it is seen that the phone is equipped with a 6.71-inch display, which is considerably bigger than the 6.52-inch panel on the Redmi A2. The report claims that the display will also offer a 90Hz refresh rate. Since the retail boxes have leaked, and the model has already been spotted in African retail outlets, it is likely to launch soon.

The Redmi A3 is seen with 128GB of onboard storage alongside 4GB of RAM. The Redmi A2 launched with 32GB and 64GB storage options. Notably, the model was recently seen online with 64GB of inbuilt storage.

Alongside a larger display, the Redmi A3 is also said to carry a larger camera module. In the images shared in the report, it is seen in a black colour option with a circular camera module, placed centrally towards the top of the back panel. It appears to house a dual rear camera system alongside an LED flash.

Previous listings suggest that the Redmi A3 will be available in black, blue, and forest green colour options, with a centred waterdrop notch at the top of the display to house the front camera. It is expected to support dual SIM connectivity and run Android 13 out-of-the-box. Alongside the aforementioned display details, the phone could offer an HD+ (1,600 x 720 pixels) resolution with a 120Hz touch sampling rate and 400nits of peak brightness.

The Redmi A3 is expected to be powered by a MediaTek chipset paired with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM, with support for up to 8GB VRAM. It is also said to get eMMC 5.1 onboard storage. The dual rear camera unit of the phone is likely to include a 13-megapixel primary sensor and an unspecified AI-backed camera. The front camera could be equipped with an 8-megapixel unit. It is likely to get a 5,000mAh battery with support for 10W wired charging.

Redmi A3 has also been spotted on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) website recently, hinting at an imminent India launch.

Last year the Xiaomi 13 Pro (Review) launched in India with a price tag of Rs. 79,999 for the sole 12GB + 256GB RAM and storage configuration. The Xiaomi 13 was launched globally in February for EUR 999 (nearly Rs. 87,600), but it did not come to the Indian market.

Recently, hands-on images of the smartphone had also been leaked. Now, the phone has reportedly been spotted on a benchmarking website.

A 91Mobiles report claims to have spotted the global variant of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra on Geekbench. The phone was spotted with the model number 24030PN60G, where the ‘G’ suggests that it is the global variant. The listing hints that the handset is powered by an octa-core chipset clocking a speed of 3.30 GHz. Meawhile, recent leaks suggested that the model is likely to launch with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC.

The Geekbench listing for the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is seen with a single-core score of 9,317 and a multi-core score of 26,523. As per the report notes the unusually high scores are attributed to the fact that it was tested using Geekbench 4 and not the latest Geekbench 6 version.

As per the report, the Samsung Galaxy S24+ with the Exynos 2400 chipset scored 9,043 and 25,655, respectively, on single-core and multi-core tests the older version of Geekbench. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is also seen to feature an Adreno 750 GPU and 14.84GB of RAM, as per the listing, which suggests that the tested variant is the 16GB option of the model. It also shows that the handset may ship with Android 14. The phone has previously been tipped to run Xiaomi’s new HyperOS, similar to the other Xiaomi 14 models.

Xiaomi 14 Ultra is expected to succeed the Xiaomi 13 Ultra and, therefore, carry several upgrades over the current flagship model. It is likely to sport a 6.7-inch 2K AMOLED 120Hz display, an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor and a quad rear camera unit. The camera system has been tipped to include a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-900 primary sensor with f/1.63 to f/4.0 variable aperture, a 120mm periscope telephoto shooter and a Vario-Summilux 1:1.63-2.5/12-120 aspherical (ASPH) lens. Apple Tops Samsung in Global Smartphone Shipments for First Time Since 2010: IDC

Apple surpassed Samsung to ship the most smartphones in 2023, shows a new report by market research firm IDC. It’s the first time the Cupertino-based tech giant has overtaken Samsung in worldwide smartphone shipments since 2010. Apple’s rise comes on the heels of the increasing popularity of premium iPhone models and aggressive trade-in offers. Global smartphone shipments dropped 3.2 percent year-on-year (YoY) in 2023. However, the last quarter of 2023 saw 8.5 percent year-on-year growth, indicating an expected recovery in 2024. Xiaomi is in a close third spot and other Chinese smartphone brands including Oppo and Transsion Holdings round up the top five slots.

According to analyst firm IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, global smartphone shipments dropped 3.2 percent YoY to 1.17 billion units in 2023 due to a difficult macroeconomic environment and elevated inventory. The fourth quarter of 2023 saw 8.5 percent year-over-year growth and 326.1 million shipments.

For the first time, Apple topped global smartphone sales outpacing Samsung and other Android phone makers. The iPhone maker enjoyed a 20.1 percent market share last year by shipping 234.6 million units. The South Korean smartphone brand shipped 226.6 million units and grabbed 19.4 percent market share. Xiaomi took the third spot by shipping 145.9 million units with a 12.5 percent market share.

Oppo and Transsion came in fourth and fifth, respectively. Oppo shipped 103.1 million units and got an 8.8 percent market share, while Transsion shipped 94.9 million smartphones and received an 8.1 percent market share.

In the last quarter of 2023, Apple led the market with a 24.7 percent market share, followed by Samsung, Xiaomi, Transsion, and Vivo in the top five places. IDC notes that the last time Samsung was not on top of the smartphone market was 13 years ago in 2010. Apple’s performance is attributed to the increasing trend of premium devices and interest-free financing plans.

“While we saw some strong growth from low-end Android players like Transsion and Xiaomi in the second half of 2023, stemming from rapid growth in emerging markets, the biggest winner is clearly Apple,” said IDC’s Worldwide Tracker team research director Nabila Popal. “Not only is Apple the only player in the Top 3 to show positive growth annually, but also bags the number 1 spot annually for the first time ever. All this despite facing increased regulatory challenges and renewed competition from Huawei in China, its largest market” he added.

Despite the decline in global smartphone shipments in 2023, the market is expected to recover in 2024, fueled by new launches and diversification of Android players. IDC’s Worldwide Mobility and Consumer Device Trackers Vice President Ryan Reith opined that the overall Android space is diversifying within itself. Huawei is making inroads quickly within China, and brands like OnePlus, Honor, Google, and others are launching competitive devices in the higher mid-range segment. Foldables and increased discussions around AI capabilities are gaining momentum indicating competitive market trends ahead.

Previously, several leaks and reports have hinted at the design and key specifications of the high-end Poxo X6 series model. The company has now revealed the OS details and AnTuTu score of the handset.
