Xiaomi 14 series with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and HyperOS operating system was launched in China in October last year. Now, the Chinese electronics brand seems to be gearing up to unveil Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro in India. Xiaomi on Thursday (February 1) shared a teaser on social media to offer hints about the launch of the Xiaomi 14 series in the country without confirming the names. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is expected to join the lineup soon. The Xiaomi 14 lineup flaunts a Leica-tuned triple rear camera setup.

Xiaomi India, via its official X handle (formerly Twitter), teased its partnership with Leica. The post indirectly hints that the Xiaomi 14 series with Leica-tuned cameras could make its India debut soon. However, Xiaomi didn’t confirm that it is indeed bringing the Xiaomi 14 lineup to India.

Xiaomi’s ultra-premium smartphones including Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 13T feature camera setups co-engineered by Leica. The smartphone maker entered into a partnership with the German camera maker back in 2022. The rumoured Xiaomi 14 Ultra is also expected to carry Leica Summilux cameras.

Last year the Xiaomi 13 Pro (Review) launched in India with a price tag of Rs. 79,999 for the sole 12GB + 256GB RAM and storage configuration. The Xiaomi 13 was launched globally in February for EUR 999 (nearly Rs. 87,600), but it did not come to the Indian market.

Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept Lets You Use Leica M-Series Lenses With Phone, Offers Focus Peaking, More

Xiaomi has shown the Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept smartphone with an interchangeable lens similar to a DSLR camera. The Chinese smartphone brand has released a video teasing the complete design and optical details of the smartphone co-developed by Leica. The new Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept allows users to attach a camera lens to the smartphone camera. Xiaomi claims that users can attach Leica’s professional M-series camera lenses to the smartphone’s camera. The Xiaomi 12S Ultra concept is equipped with two 1-inch sensors, instead of the one in the vanilla Xiaomi 12S Ultra. The new model could debut as the first handset with support for interchangeable lenses.

The Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept was showcased by Xiaomi on Wednesday in a video via its official Weibo handle. The new device comes as a joint effort between Xiaomi and Leica and allows to attach a Leica M-series lens module to the phone.

As per the video, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept has two 1-inch sensors. The secondary lens is installed at the centre of the image field and can receive light directly from the external lens. It is claimed to reduce light loss while capturing sharp images. The surface has a sapphire glass coating to protect it from scratches and can be customised with Leica M-series lenses.

The Concept model is claimed to support focus peaking, zebra lines, histograms, and other common tools, and is capable of shooting 10bit RAW format files. Xiaomi hasn’t revealed many other details including the specification of the upcoming device. We can expect more teasers about the Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept in the coming days.

Xiaomi 12S Ultra with Leica optics was introduced earlier in July this year. It features a 6.73-inch 2K (1,440×3,200 pixels) AMOLED micro-curved display with up to 120Hz refresh rate. The display has Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support with the phone using second-generation LTPO technology for enabling an energy-efficient display viewing experience.

The smartphone is powered by the octa-core Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, along with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM. It has a triple rear camera setup that houses a 50-megapixel 1-inch Sony IMX989 primary sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS) support. The camera setup also includes a 48-megapixel camera sensor that is available under a periscope-shaped lens and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide shooter. The rear camera setup also includes laser autofocus and is paired with an LED flash module. Further, there is a 32-megapixel selfie camera sensor at the front. Up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage, an in-display fingerprint sensor, 4,860mAh battery that supports 67W wired and 50W wireless charging, are some of the other key specifications of the phone.

Xiaomi 12S Alleged Image Leaks, Tipped to Be First Smartphone From Brand to Carry Leica Branding

Xiaomi announced its association with the German camera maker Leica on Monday. It was speculated that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra would be the first imaging flagship jointly developed by Xiaomi and Leica, expected to be officially unveiled in July this year. However, a new picture said to belong to the upcoming Xiaomi 12S, has been leaked online with the Leica branding on its camera module. The image hints that the Xiaomi 12S series could be the first smartphones from the Chinese manufacturer to get the Leica camera technology.

A tipster seems to have leaked an image on Weibo, which shows the alleged Xiaomi 12S bearing the Leica branding on its camera module, as mentioned above. Moreover, Leica previously partnered with Huawei, Panasonic and Sharp. Recently, Xiaomi had announced its long-term strategic cooperation with Leica to co-develop camera technologies for the company’s upcoming flagship smartphones.

Xiaomi 12S series is said to consist of two models: the Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro. The smartphones are reportedly under development and are said to hit the markets with smaller displays than other models in the Xiaomi 12 series.

Xiaomi 12S series specifications (expected)

The Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro are tipped to feature a full-HD+ flexible curved display with a centred single hole along with a 120Hz refresh rate. The phones in the series are also expected to feature a 50-megapixel main camera. The camera is said to come with a new hardware-level algorithm, which could be from the Leica partnership. The Xiaomi 12S series is said to have the SM8475 processor, which is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC.

The upcoming Xiaomi 12S series were spotted on the IMEI database last month. The listing did not reveal many details about these smartphones. However, the Xiaomi 12S models are expected to have slightly upgraded features than the standard models. The Xiaomi 12S and Xiaomi 12S Pro were seen carrying the model number 2206123SC and shortened model number L3S, and 2206122SC and shortened model number L2S, respectively. The phones were also speculated to have the codenames “diting” for Xiaomi 12S and “unicorn” for Xiaomi 12S Pro.
