Xiaomi to Rollout HyperOS Update for Several Xiaomi, Redmi, Poco Smartphones in Q1 2024

Xiaomi announced in October this year that it will replace its MIUI OS with HyperOS and retire the older OS skin after its almost 13-year-long run. The new HyperOS UI was first introduced with the Xiaomi 14 series. The company also revealed its plan to introduce the HyperOS developer version to other Xiaomi and Redmi handsets in China. Now, the Chinese OEM has confirmed the Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco models that will receive the HyperOS developer version update globally.

In a post on X, Xiaomi confirmed that several smartphones and a tablet will receive the HyperOS update globally within the first quarter of 2024. The firm assured that those who signed up for the developer beta users will receive over-the-air (OTA) updates for the stable version. Among the models that will receive the HyperOS skin in Q1 2024 are Xiaomi 13 Ultra, Xiaomi 13 Pro, Xiaomi 13, Xiaomi 13T Pro, Xiaomi 13T, Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12S, and Xiaomi Pad 6.

Simultaneously, Poco announced that the Poco F5 will be the first model from the brand to get the Xiaomi HyperOS update. Like the aforementioned Xiaomi and Redmi models, eligible Poco F5 users will also receive routine OTA updates. The brand added that it will announce other models that will also receive a similar update at a later date.

HyperOS is touted to be a human-centric operating system designed to align seamlessly with personal devices, cars, and smart home products to offer users an updated smart ecosystem experience. It integrates an AI subsystem and cross-device connectivity, alongside AI-backed enhancements to other features.

The Xiaomi 14 models, which launched in China with the Xiaomi 14 and a Xiaomi 14 Pro, were the first handsets to launch with HyperOS out-of-the-box.

The smartphone series from the Chinese manufacturer sported three models — the vanilla Xiaomi 13, the Xiaomi 13 Pro and the Xiaomi 13 Lite. The smartphone series announced its launch in China in December 2022, however, it included only two variants. While the Xiaomi 13 and the Xiaomi 13 Pro are powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, the Lite version in the series comes equipped with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC.

Xiaomi 13, Xiaomi 13 Pro, Xiaomi 13 Lite price, availability

The Chinese tech giant Xiaomi announced the launch of the Xiaomi 13 series in Barcelona. The base storage variant has a starting price of EUR 999 (nearly Rs. 87,600), while the Xiaomi 13 Pro is priced at EUR 1299 (roughly Rs. 1,13,900). On the other hand, Xiaomi 13 Lite cost EUR 499 (roughly Rs. 43,800).

The Xiaomi 13 Pro global variant will make its debut in two colour options — Ceramic Black and White. On the other end, the base model will offer Black, Green and White colour variants. The Xiaomi 13 Lite makes its way in Black, Blue and Pink colour options.

Xiaomi 13 Pro specifications

The high-end variant in the Xiaomi 13 series — the Xiaomi 13 Pro — is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, and comes equipped with a 4,820mAh battery that supports both wired and wireless charging. The smartphone gets wired charging support of 120W, with 50W wireless charging support.

For optics, the Xiaomi 13 Pro sports a Leica-branded triple camera unit at the back, which houses a 50-megapixel Sony IMX989 primary sensor, a 50-megapixel floating telephoto sensor, and a 50-megapixel wide-angle sensor. Meanwhile, the 32-megapixel front snapper is placed at the top centre of the display.

With support for dual SIM (Nano-SIM), the Xiaomi 13 Pro runs on MIUI 14. It features a 6.73-inch OLED 2K (1,440×3,200 pixels) display that gets support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+. The Xiaomi 13 Pro pairs up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM, with up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 inbuilt storage.

Meanwhile, the connectivity options on the Xiaomi 13 Pro include 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.3, NFC, GPS, and a USB Type-C port, among others.

Xiaomi 13 specifications

The smartphone series also gets a vanilla variant, which gets similar software and hardware features as the Xiaomi 13 Pro. The Xiaomi 13 sports a 6.36-inch OLED (1,080×2,400 pixels) display with up to 120Hz refresh rate and 1,900 nits of peak brightness. The Xiaomi 13 is also powered by a 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, coupled with up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM with up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 inbuilt storage.

The vanilla variant differs from the high-end module in terms of battery and optics. The Xiaomi 13 is backed by a 4,500mAh battery with support for 67W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. For optics, it too gets a Leica-branded camera unit. However, the triple rear camera setup packs a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 10-megapixel secondary sensor, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor.

Xiaomi 13 Lite specifications

The smartphone, which did not launch in China along with the Xiaomi 13 series, is a rebadged version of the Xiaomi Civi 2. The smartphone runs Android 12 out-of-the-box with MIUI 13 skin. The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC coupled with 8GB RAM.

Xiaomi 13 Lite gets a 6.55-inch full-HD+ AMOLED panel with a 120Hz screen refresh rate. Similar to the other two Xiaomi 13 variants, this smartphone also gets a triple camera unit on the back. With a 50-megapixel primary camera, the other two sensors include an 8-megapixel and a 2-megapixel camera. However, the company is focusing on selfie pictures with this smartphone, which gets two selfie camera sensors in a pill-shaped notch, where both sensors are 32-megapixel cameras.

It will be backed by a 4,500mAh battery that gets Xiaomi’s 67W TurboCharge technology.

Xiaomi Begins Sending Media Invites For MWC 2023, No Mention Of Xiaomi 13 Ultra: Report

Xiaomi has reportedly begun sending out invites to media professionals for its Mobile World Congress (MWC) event scheduled to be held in Barcelona from February 27 until March 2 this year. Much has been speculated about what the Chinese electronics and smartphone manufacturer has in store for the MWC 2023 event. However, the media invites currently doing the rounds reportedly do not hint at any announcement about the much-awaited Xiaomi 13 Ultra smartphone.

According to a report by GSMarena, Xiaomi has begun sending out invites to journalists who would be interested in attending the company’s MWC 2023 event scheduled to be held in Barcelona next month onwards. The company reportedly wrote that they intend to share their vision for 2023 and onwards at the event, and on how the company plans to innovate and connect.

However, the major expectation from the event was an announcement around the purported Xiaomi 13 Ultra smartphone, which seems to have been skipped entirely by the Chinese company, at least as far as MWC 2023 Barcelona is concerned, according to the report.

Xiaomi also stated its intention to share information about its global footprint at the event. This reportedly could mean that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer may reveal the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro at MWC 2023.

Xiaomi was also recently tipped to announce its partnership with Leica for the global market at MWC 2023, which is tipped to include details around the use of a variable aperture for smartphone cameras. However, as far as the invite is concerned, the company may not make the announcements at the upcoming event. The report also added that though there has been no mention of Xiaomi 13 Ultra unveiling at the MWC 2023, the device may launch later during the year.

Xiaomi 13 Tipped to Launch as Xiaomi 14; Retail Box Surfaces Online

Xiaomi is expected to launch its new flagship smartphone series soon in China. The company confirmed to launch of its new flagship smartphone with the newly-announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC soon. Xiaomi said that it will be among the first smartphone brands to launch a flagship phone with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. It was expected that the Xiaomi 13 series will get the new chipset, however, it looks like the Chinese tech giant could skip a number and launch the phones with the Xiaomi 14 moniker.

There is no official word from the brand at the time of writing this, but new images shared on Weibo show the alleged retail box and the specifications of the Xiaomi 14. There is no word on why Xiaomi would skip a number in its flagship series. One of the reasons could be to launch flagship phones with names that are in line with the latest MIUI update. The MIUI 14 update, which will be based on Android 13, is expected to be unveiled soon. The Xiaomi 14 series is likely to come with the latest MIUI 14 update out of the box.

According to the leaked images, the Xiaomi 14 will come with a Leica-tuned camera setup. The device’s ‘About Phone’ screenshot has also leaked online and reveals the said moniker and model number. The Xiaomi 14 is suggested to have the model number 2211133C. If the screenshot is real, then the device will boot MIUI 14 based on Android 13 out of the box.

The image also suggests that the phone will draw power from a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, which has a peak clock speed of 3.2GHz. In addition to this, the Xiaomi 14 will have at least 12GB of RAM. It would not be a surprise if Xiaomi launches an 8GB RAM variant of the Xiaomi 14 with 128GB of internal storage.

As mentioned earlier, the company has not confirmed any details about the names of its upcoming flagship. Therefore, we advise our readers to take the leaked moniker details with a pinch of salt.

If the Xiaomi 13 indeed launches as the Xiaomi 14, it could sport a 6.2-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display. The screen is said to remain flat and sport fairly thin bezels around it. The device is also tipped to sport a 120Hz refresh rate. It is suggested to come with a hole-punch cutout at the top centre, according to the leaked design renders.

On the back, the phone could sport a square-shaped camera module. It could come with a triple-camera setup with an LED flash. Xiaomi is likely to launch the phone with a 50MP main camera. The device is said to pack a 4,500mAh battery and offer 67W fast charging support out of the box.
