Apple Watch Series 9, Watch Ultra 2 ‘Double Tap’ Gesture Also Works on Some Galaxy Watch Models: Details

Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 were launched by the company alongside the iPhone 15 series of smartphones at the company’s September launch event on Tuesday. While Apple’ did not introduce major improvements related to health measurement this year, the company teased support for a new Double Tap gesture that will allow users to perform certain actions on the latest smartwatch models. These include stopping timer, snoozing an alarm, or pausing music. However, you can also use the same gesture on some Samsung Galaxy Watch and Apple Watch models.

Both Apple and Samsung offer different features that allow users to use a few hand gestures to perform certain tasks. It is called Universal Gestures on compatible Galaxy Watch models, as 9to5Google points out, while on an Apple Watch, the feature is called AssistiveTouch. Both features can be used on recent smartwatch models from the two companies, and require the use of updated software for the wearables.

You can use these finger and wrist-based gestures on any Apple Watch that is running Watch OS 8 — which means it will work on the Apple Watch Series 4 and newer models, as well as the first-generation Apple Watch SE. You can open the Settings app on your Apple Watch and tap on Accessibility > AssistiveTouch > Hand Gestures. You can then select from four options: Clench, Double Clench, Pinch, Double Pinch and customise the actions that will be performed when using these gestures.

Similarly, if you have any smartwatch launched as part of the following series: Samsung Galaxy Watch 6, Galaxy Watch 5, and Galaxy Watch 4, you will have access to the Universal Gestures feature. You can visit the settings section on your Galaxy Watch that is running One UI Watch 5 and tap on Accessibility > Interaction and dexterity > Universal gestures. Once the feature is enabled, you can choose from pinch and double pinch gestures, making a fist and making a fist twice, to perform certain tasks. You can also shake your writs to enable the universal gestures feature.

Apple Watch owners can further customise the actions to perform tasks like launching Siri, Apple Pay, showing all installed apps, switching to the previous app, and even holding the side button which can be used to turn off the watch. We will learn more about how the new Double Tap gesture works with the existing accessibility features on the new Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 models when the devices are available to consumers later this month.

Ahead of the event, alleged renders of the Galaxy Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic have leaked online showing multiple colour options. The Galaxy Watch 6 is said to be available in 40mm and 44mm case sizes. Meanwhile, the Watch 6 Classic model could come in 43mm and 47mm sizes. They could be available in Wi-Fi and LTE models. Samsung might provide sapphire lens protection to the display of the Galaxy Watch 6 series.

German publication WinFuture.de has leaked the renders of Galaxy Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic. The images suggest silver, black, and cream colour options for the Galaxy Watch 6. The Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, in contrast, can be seen in just two shades — black and silver.

The Galaxy Watch 6 Classic is shown with rotating bezels with a close resemblance to Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. The mechanically rotating bezels would allow users to navigate through the widgets and apps. This corroborates previous rumours.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 is said to have two variants with 40mm and 44mm case sizes. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic is said to come in 43mm and 47mm sizes. Samsung is highly anticipated to unveil the Galaxy Watch 6 lineup at the end of July during its Galaxy Unpacked event. The event, which is scheduled to take place in Seoul, will also see the debuts of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. The Galaxy Tab S9 is also expected to go official during the event.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Pro Design Could Be Similar to Galaxy Watch 4 Classic: All Details

Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Pro and Galaxy Watch 6 are expected to go official in the coming months alongside the next generation of foldable smartphones. It was rumoured earlier this week that the Galaxy Watch 6 series would be powered by a new Exynos W980 SoC. Now, another leak suggests that Galaxy Watch 6 Pro will bring back a much requested design element. It is also tipped to feature narrow borders and could be more or less the same as the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic in terms of design.

Tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), known for his reasonably accurate leaks about unannounced Samsung devices, recently tweeted the design details of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Pro. According to the tipster, the upcoming wearable’s design follows in the footsteps of the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.

Samsung is said to bring back the rotating bezel for the Galaxy Watch 6 Pro, the tipster suggests. The company ditched this hardware feature with the launch of Galaxy Watch 5 series and went with a digital bezel. The reason for the return of the rotating bezel was not mentioned. It is said to feature narrow borders as well.

The Galaxy Watch 6 series models are said to be powered by a new Exynos W980 SoC. The outgoing Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 4 series feature Exynos W920 SoC. The upcoming models are said to come with a curved glass design, instead of a flat one.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series went official during the Galaxy Unpacked 2022 event in August last year. The price of the Galaxy Watch 5 starts at Rs. 27,999, while the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro starts at Rs. 44,999.

The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro runs on WearOS 3.5-based One UI Watch 4.5. It has a 1.4-inch Super AMOLED display with 450×450 pixels resolution. The wearable comes preloaded with a BioActive sensor and temperature sensor.
