Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip 5 Retro Edition as a new variant of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is said to offer up to 12GB of RAM and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 up to 8GB of RAM. The phones are expected to launch in storage variants of 256GB and 512GB. These phones have also been tipped to run Android 13-based One UI 5.1.1 out-of-the-box.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 were said to feature an IP58 rating for dust and water resistance, but a later leak contradicted those claims suggesting that the foldables will continue to be IPX8-rated for splash resistance like the current Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4.

Known tipster SnoopyTech (@snoopytech), via XDA Developers, leaked the alleged renders and full specification sheet of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. The leaked renders show the Galaxy Z Fold 5 in three colour options with a hole punch display design with minimal bezels. The images indicate a similar design language to that of Galaxy Z Fold 4. It appears to have a vertically arranged triple camera setup at the back. The volume rockers and the power button are seen placed on the right edge.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 seems to have a large cover screen similar to that of the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra. It appears to have a hole-punch display design with flat sides. Samsung seems to have changed the dual camera alignment from vertical to horizontal.

As per the leak, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is said to ship in cream, icy blue, and phantom black shades. The Galaxy Z Flip 5, on the other hand, is said to be available in four shades including cream, graphite and lavender.

The outer screen is tipped to be a 3.4-inch 748 x 720 panel with an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz. Like the Galaxy Z Fold 5, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 could be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC paired with 8GB of RAM. It is said to come in 265GB and 512GB storage options.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Tipped to Feature Bigger Outer Display Than Galaxy Z Flip 4

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to launch alongside the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. Both smartphones could be unveiled in July at an earlier-than-expected Galaxy Unpacked event. Reportedly, the South Korean tech giant has initiated the process of mass production of hinges that would be used in these foldable smartphones, and going by that timeline, it would allow the company to be ready to launch the handsets by July, instead of the previously reported August timeline. In the meantime, a new leak has suggested that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will sport a larger outer display than its predecessor.

Tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) shared in a tweet that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to launch with a considerably large outer screen. The clamshell foldable is expected to feature a 3.4-inch outer display with a resolution of 720×748 pixels and a pixel density of 305ppi.

The leak also shared a purported design render of the Galaxy Z Flip 5. The phone is seen in comparison with the outer display of its preceding handset, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 features a 1.9-inch outer screen. The new design, shown in the shared image, shows most of the clamshell cover encompassed with the display panel, only curving around the dual rear camera modules horizontally placed on the right side corner of the panel.

Earlier reports have suggested that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to be powered by a custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC for Galaxy by Qualcomm. It is also expected to launch in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options, and could come equipped with 8GB of RAM. The phone is also reported to support 25W wired fast charging. 

The upcoming clamshell foldable is expected to boot One UI 5.1.1 based on Android 13. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is likely to be offered in beige, grey, light green, and light pink colour options. It will reportedly measure 165mm x 71.8mm x 6.7mm in size.
