Samsung Galaxy S24 Renders Tip Flat Display, UWB Antenna; Design Shown From All Angles

Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S series of smartphones has been quite popular since its inception and there is a high level of anticipation for next year’s Galaxy S24 lineup. Like the Galaxy S23 family, the upcoming lineup is expected to include at least three models — Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. Ahead of any official announcement, high-quality renders of the vanilla Galaxy S24 have surfaced online. The images show the handset in a light blue shade with a flat display.

Alleged renders of the Galaxy S24 were shared by tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (@onleaks), in collaboration with Smartprix. The leaked renders show the handset from all angles in a light blue shade and indicate minimal changes from this year’s Galaxy S23. It is seen with a flat frame design with slightly rounded edges and the display has a hole-punch cutout to house the selfie shooter. Further, it will reportedly include an Ultra-Wideband (UWB) antenna on the right side. If this rumour turns out to be true, this would be the first time Samsung has packed support for the UWB technology on the Galaxy S series.

At the back, the Galaxy S24 is seen with a triple rear camera unit along with an LED flash in a matte finish. In a similar design to the Galaxy S23, three separate camera sensors are placed below one another with protruding camera rings and an LED flash.

Further, the upcoming handset is said to measure around 147 x 70.5 x 7.6mm. The Galaxy S23 measures 170.9×146.3×7.6mm.

Previous reports suggested that the Galaxy S24 will feature a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with up to 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, and Gorilla Glass protection. It is expected to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, but is also tipped to use the company’s in-house Exynos 2400 SoC in select markets. Other leaked specifications include a 50-megapixel triple rear camera unit, a 12-megapixel selfie shooter, and an IP68-rated build. It is said to house a 4,700mAh battery with 45W wired charging support.

The flagship lineup, that is said to include the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra, has been in the rumour mill for quite some time now. Most recently, more details about the handsets have surfaced online. They are said to come with a new chip, improved RAM, and upgraded displays over the current models. The Galaxy S24 family could pack OLED displays made using the M13 material. The Ultra model is expected to pack 16GB of RAM as well.

As per a report by the Korean publication Chosun, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones will feature new OLED displays made using the M13 material. These panels will reportedly offer improved performance over the previous M12 OLED panels used in the Galaxy S23 lineup. It could be lighter and will be more power efficient than older models.

Samsung is said to have added M12 OLED displays on its new Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 foldables. Last year’s iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max also have the same panels, says the report. This year’s iPhone 15 series will also reportedly feature the M12 OLED panels, but this would change next year. Apple, Samsung’s primary rival in the market, is expected to provide the M13 OLED panel for the iPhone 16 series.

The Galaxy S24 lineup could run on Exynos 2400 chip in select markets and they might get Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC in some other countries. In 2022, Samsung equipped the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC on Galaxy S22 handsets in select markets. In other regions, the handsets debuted with Exynos 2200 SoC on board. This year, the South Korean smartphone brand fitted a customised version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC on the Galaxy S23 series.

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 models will reportedly also come with increased memory capacity over the previous models. The regular Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ are said to pack 12GB of RAM, compared to 8GB on the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ models. Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Live Image Leaked; Tipped to Get Slower Wireless Charging Capacity

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is confirmed to launch soon. The phone has previously been listed on Geekbench with two SoC variants. It is expected to succeed the Galaxy S21 FE model. Recently, a live image of the phone was leaked, and it was also spotted on a wireless charging database, suggesting that it will come with a slower charging capacity than the other Galaxy S23 models. The upcoming Fan Edition model of the phone is expected to be the part of the Galaxy S23 series, which also includes the base Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The Galaxy S23 FE was spotted on Wireless Power Consortium, appearing to support a 4.4W wireless charging. The website does not indicate the wattage of power charging that the USB Type-C port is likely to allow. To compare, the Galaxy S23 Ultra supports 45W wired and 15W wireless fast charging.

A Dutch website, Samsung Club, on the other hand, shared leaked live images of the purported Galaxy S23 FE model. The image shared showed that the phone is likely to feature a 2.5D display. The back panel of the phone is expected to be equally flat and is likely to place the triple rear camera unit in the top left corner in vertically placed three circular cutouts.

Justin Hume, Samsung South Africa Vice-President of Mobile, said recently at the Galaxy Unpacked event in Seoul that the announcement of a Galaxy S23 FE model is imminent. It could launch with either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC or a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC in the US and Canadian markets, while other regions may get the phone with an in-house Exynos 2200 chipset.

Out-of-the-box, the phone is expected to boot Android 13-based One UI. The Exynos variant is said to be paired with an Xclipse 920 AMD GPU. The phone is expected to launch with up to 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 inbuilt storage.

For optics, the Galaxy S23 FE is likely to include a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens, and an 8-megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens at the back and a 12-megapixel sensor in the front placed in a centre-aligned hole-punch slot at the top of a possibly 6.4-inch screen. It is expected to be backed by a 4,500mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is expected to launch soon. The South Korean tech giant held its second Galaxy Unpacked event of the year where they unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Tab S9 series, and the Galaxy Watch 6 series. Reportedly, a company executive confirmed the launch of the Galaxy S23 FE model, the Fan Edition handset of the Galaxy S23, that was released at the Galaxy Unpacked event earlier this year in February.

An Android Authority report states that a top Samsung executive confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE will launch soon. Justin Hume, Samsung South Africa Vice-President of Mobile said that there currently is “an FE-sized gap between the Galaxy A54 5G and Galaxy S23″ but an announcement to bridge that will be made “imminently.” The Fan Edition model is expected to include the most popular features of the Galaxy S23 series, which includes the base Galaxy S23, the Galaxy S23+ and the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Recently the purported handset was spotted on Geekbench multiple times. One listing suggested that the Galaxy S23 FE is likely to be powered by an in-house Exynos 2200 SoC, while another one suggests that the phone could launch in North America, that is the US and Canada, with either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. It is likely that the phone may launch with two chip variants in different regions.

The phone has been tipped to come with up to 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 inbuilt storage, while the Exynos SoC has been said to be paired with an Xclipse 920 AMD GPU. Reportedly, the Galaxy S23 FE will run Android 13-based One UI on top.

Samsung’s Quarterly Profit Set to Drop 92 Percent as Chip Glut Worsens Amid Economic Slowdown

Samsung Electronics’ first-quarter profit is expected to plunge 92 percent to the lowest for any quarter in 14 years, as a chip glut worsens and buyers like data centres and computer makers slow purchases amid a global economic slowdown.

The launch of a new flagship smartphone is expected to have supported mobile profits, but its chip division likely reported quarterly losses of more than KRW 3 trillion (roughly Rs. 18,903 crore) as memory chip prices fell and its inventory values were slashed, analysts said.

Samsung, the world’s biggest maker of memory chips, TVs and smartphones as of 2022, is a bellwether for global consumption trends. It is expected to announce preliminary first-quarter results on Friday and full results later this month, in what is typically a seasonally weak period.

Operating profit likely fell to KRW 1.08 trillion (roughly Rs. 6,769 crore) in the quarter ended March 31, according to a Refinitiv SmartEstimate from 27 analysts, weighted toward those who are more consistently accurate.

That is lowest since a KRW 590 billion (roughly Rs. 3,700 crore) profit in the first quarter of 2009, according to company data, and compares with an operating profit of KRW 14.12 trillion (roughly Rs. 88,553 crore) last year.

Prices of DRAM memory chips, widely used in smartphones, PCs and servers plunged about 20 percent during the quarter, while prices for NAND flash chips used in data storage fell about 10 percent to 15 percent, according to TrendForce data.

Clients including data centre operators, smartphone and personal computer makers are refraining from buying new chips and instead using up inventories, as consumer demand for tech devices remains sluggish due to rising inflation.

Chip buyers also remain conservative about making new investments as interest rates soar.

Rivals Micron Technology and SK Hynix have slashed investment plans as a result, expecting the chip downturn to last at least until the second half of 2023.

Samsung, in contrast, has not yet changed its investment plans. Analysts have said the tech giant is using the opportunity to expand its market share lead over competitors so it can take advantage of an eventual rebound in demand.

In February, Samsung Electronics said it planned to borrow KRW 20 trillion from unit Samsung Display to use as operational funds until August 2025.

Operating profit at Samsung’s mobile business likely fell by 9 percent to KRW 3.46 trillion in the March quarter, an average of seven analyst estimates showed.

While demand for smartphones is sluggish overall, premium models are more resilient, analysts said.

Profits were supported by the higher-margin flagship models including the Galaxy S23 series launched during the quarter, which accounted for about 20 percent of total sales, IBK Investment & Securities analyst Kim Woon-ho said.
