Microsoft Expects Next-Gen Xbox and PS6 to Launch in 2028, Claims It Has Been Losing Console Wars: Report

Microsoft believes the next generation of gaming consoles should be out in 2028, court documents in the ingoing FTC trial over the Xbox parent’s attempt to acquire Activision Blizzard revealed. The documents, as reviewed by IGN, detailed that the next Xbox and PlayStation 6 will potentially be out eight years after the current ones launched in 2020. The timeline coincides with Sony’s statement from 2022, which alluded that the next console generation won’t be here until 2027. The dates are important, considering Microsoft is trying to convince the court that it is willing to commit to making Activision’s biggest franchise Call of Duty available in parity on PlayStation consoles for a 10-year duration.

“This term would, in any case, go beyond the expected starting period of the next generation of consoles (in 2028),” Microsoft said in the documents (via IGN). “Thus, Call of Duty will be published on successor PlayStation consoles should one be released during the term of the agreement. The agreement also would ensure that Call of Duty console games are offered on PlayStation at parity with Xbox.” This contradicts Sony’s claim from November, last year, where it claimed that Microsoft only plans to offer Activision games on PlayStation until 2027. As it happens, team green had sent a draft of the 10-year agreement to Sony, but the latter has refused to respond to that offer. That duration would also exceed the 2028 release window, allowing Call of duty to flourish on Sony’s next-gen consoles. The US FTC (Federal Trade Commission) has requested to temporarily block Microsoft and Activision Blizzard from closing their $69 billion (about Rs. 5,65,921 crore) deal until the agency’s in-house court decides whether the deal hurts competition in the video game industry.

Additionally, Microsoft has now admitted that it has been losing the ‘console wars’ since 2001 i.e., since the first generation of Xbox launched. For the uninitiated, ‘console wars’ refers to the tussle between the biggest video game console manufacturers — PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo — for market domination, in an attempt to outsell one another. “Xbox has lost the console wars, and its rivals are positioned to continue to dominate, including by leveraging exclusive content,” Microsoft said in the documents. “Xbox’s console has consistently ranked third (of three) behind PlayStation and Nintendo in sales.” As per VGChartz, the Xbox Series S/X consoles have sold 21.3 million units since launch, whereas the PS5 and Nintendo Switch have sold about 36 million units in that period— as of April 2023. Nintendo takes the lead by a slight margin though, with 36.2 million units sold.

A Kotaku report notes that Microsoft has now given up competing in the current console wars and will instead focus on delivering quality software. This could be through games or even its subscription service Xbox Game Pass, which the company continues pushing every chance it gets. The document further goes on to stress that Xbox does not generate a profit through console sales, selling the systems at a loss in the hopes that it will make up for lost revenue through ‘sales of games and accessories.’ The company recently hiked the prices of its flagship Xbox Series X console in certain regions, and Game Pass subscription around the world.

In related news, the court hearing also revealed that Bethesda’s Indiana Jones game, which was originally planned as a multi-platform release, would now be exclusive to Xbox and PC only. The project was announced in 2021, merely months after Microsoft acquired parent company ZeniMax Media for $7.5 billion (about Rs. 61,532 crore). During the court hearing, Bethesda’s head of publishing Pete Hines revealed that ZeniMax’s original agreement with Disney would have put the Indiana Jones game on multiple consoles. However, when Microsoft acquired the former, Disney had “questions” regarding console exclusivity. Minor changes were then made to the contract, making Indiana Jones an Xbox exclusive. Even Arkane’s Redfall was originally set to release on PS5 as well, but plans for the same were scrapped following the Bethesda acquisition.

Mortal Kombat 1 Shows Off Kameo Fighters in Bone-Krunching Gameplay Trailer

Mortal Kombat 1 got an extended gameplay trailer at the Summer Game Fest, held early Friday, and it looks absurdly violent in all the right ways. The game serves as a reboot — the beginning of a new timeline in the universe, forged by the Fire God Liu Kang, following his ascension into godhood at the end of Mortal Kombat 11. While recognisable characters return, they all bear new looks and origin stories, with Scorpion and Sub-Zero now being reborn as brothers. The MK franchise creator Ed Boon also dropped by on-stage to describe the new Kameo Fighter system. Mortal Kombat 1 releases September 19 across PC, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch.

The gameplay trailer largely serves as a visual showcase for all the gore and brutal Fatalities we can expect from Mortal Kombat 1. The arenas look immersive as well, shifting from a rustic Asian restaurant, shrines, and even an expensive villa that looks reminiscent of the one from Dead Island 2. The Fatalities are over the top as usual — we see skulls getting stabbed by icicles, hearts getting ripped out, and bolts of electricity burning a hole through an opponent’s torso. Amidst the bloodshed, the fighters would often call upon allies to exert short bursts of damage, mid-combo, before dipping out of the arena again. These are the new Kameo fighters, which creator Boon described in further detail.

Once you pick your main fighter from amongst the default roster, Mortal Kombat 1 reveals a second roster which includes a completely different set of fighters, which as the name suggests, appear as a tag-team partner cameo via a single button press, and unload a chain of attacks. However, there is some variety in it depending on what movement button you press simultaneously. For instance, summoning a Kameo while holding the down button will have them perform a different move, compared to any other inputs. These characters can be called in whenever you want, albeit there is a meter that limits players from spamming it indefinitely. A full list of Kameo fighters wasn’t revealed but at first glance, it seems like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, Jax, and Kano will be available at launch.

“Some of the characters are going to be available as Kameos as well as the main roster fighters. So you can play Sub-Zero with Sub-Zero,” Boon explained during the presentation. “But a lot of our Kameo fighters are kind of, like, nods back to our first game, so you’ll notice Sonya and Kano and Jax are in their older costumes.” Additionally, professional martial artist and actor Jean-Claude Van Damme — best known for Bloodsport (1988) — is playing Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 1, available as a skin in the Kombat Pack add-on, included with the Premium and Kollector’s Edition.

Mortal Kombat 1 releases September 19 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch. Pre-ordering the game grants access to the powerful sorcerer Shang Tsung, alongside beta access in August, exclusively for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X players.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Leaks Nearly Two Weeks Before Release

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has leaked nearly two weeks ahead of its release on May 12. Late Monday, images and videos showing the opening section of the Breath of the Wild sequel flooded social media and Discord channels. Physical copies of Nintendo’s long-awaited Zelda title made rounds to retailers this past weekend, and it seems as though someone dumped the game files online, allowing players to pirate the game and play it on PC via an emulator. The framerate was certainly scuffed but revealed key story details and the HUD. Those looking to avoid spoilers until Tears of the Kingdom’s launch better tread carefully on social media.

Following the leak, the highly-anticipated sequel was live-streamed on Twitch under the Zelda: Breath of the Wild category — a smart manoeuvre since both games have similar cell-shaded art styles and UI. Unsurprisingly, those streams were taken down, with the channel being suspended “at the request of the copyright holder.” Nintendo’s legal team does not play around and could pose major consequences for those involved in pirating or helping share links around the internet. Members of one of the involved private Discord servers jokingly started spamming the renowned copypasta, directed at any FBI agents, claiming that they weren’t involved in the crime. One of the servers hosting links for the leaked game got taken down.

The streams showed the opening segment of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which begins kind of similar to one of the early trailers — with Link and Zelda exploring a deep underground cave. I don’t think this counts as a spoiler. Anyway, looking over to the top-left corner of the screen revealed two full rows of hearts (HP) for Link, indicating that some troubling event would cut down his health bar to base level — marking the actual start of the game. At the time of writing, the game is reportedly out in the wild and can be played on an emulator.

Nintendo previously requested personal information of some Discord users, who were involved in leaking the Tears of the Kingdom art book on one of its servers. In April, the company also hit a YouTuber ‘PointCrow’ with copyright infringement for releasing a multiplayer mod for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, enabling online co-op. While most game developers and publishers share and encourage modding to help boost sales, Nintendo remains extremely conservative on that front.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom lets you explore the sweeping vistas of Hyrule, in addition to the floating Sky Islands. While the story is mostly shrouded in mystery, Nintendo previously confirmed all the new abilities to play around with — ranging from time rewind to the ‘Fuse’ ability, which lets you combine and construct weapons using random scraps found in its sprawling open world. There’s even an ‘Ultrahand’ ability, allowing Link to telekinetically build rafts, carts, gliders, and more, by attaching fans to propel them in a direction.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom releases May 12, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Final Trailer Features King Ganondorf’s Return, a Sprawling Hyrule, and More

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom just got a new three-minute trailer, ahead of its release on May 12, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. Much of it is shrouded in mysterious story bits, as we follow protagonist Link across the calming sweeping vistas of Hyrule and its densely populated towns and encampments. There are a bunch of new enemies, returning characters, and a new design for Princess Zelda. This new trailer arrives after producer Eiji Aonuma confirmed last month that the sequel had finally gone gold after suffering multiple delays.

The trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom opens with an overview of the floating Sky Islands, where we see a Construct hacking away at trees, while another fights a random mob. Akin to Elden Ring, it seems like enemies in this game can turn on each other, depending on what faction they belong to, letting you join in midway or wait to claim the spoils of battle. The trailer soon darks a dark turn highlighting the growing threat of the Malice, as we’re treated to a close-up visual of Link’s arm, which seems to have been corrupted. Could this be linked to his new powers in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? A 10-minute-long gameplay reveal from last month showcased all of Link’s new skills — ranging from the ability to rewind time on an inanimate object, being able to fuse random objects to create stronger weapons, and more.

We then get a quick shot of what’s presumably one of the main antagonists, followed by a brief interaction between Princess Zelda and the voice of a mysterious unseen character, who appears to be of Zonai origin. “Zelda, we rely on your knight and that legendary sword he carries. Our last line of defence will be Link,” he says, approaching closer and placing his arm on Zelda’s shoulders. It’s too early to speculate who this would be, but the key takeaway is Zelda sporting a new look. Her hair is shorter, and she’s dressed in archaic clothing, which presumably implies this segment is set in the past.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom trailer offers a cinematic look at the combat — breakable weapons, as previously seen in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, return once more, urging you to constantly mess around with the new Fuse ability. Thanks to Link’s new Ultrahand ability, one can also craft contraptions and vehicles to traverse the world, ranging from rafts, gliders, carts, or even a tiny rocket you can hold onto to reach the Sky Islands. It also seems like you can group up with other characters and head into battle, and there are even implications of tag team battles. Could just be cutscenes — at this point, it’s too soon to tell. The boar-like villain King Ganondorf is also back, imbuing his various footsoldiers with the dark power teased in previous trailers. He’s also buff now, compared to earlier appearances where he appeared severely dehydrated.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom releases May 12, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.

Hogwarts Legacy Sets Biggest Single-Player Game Record on Twitch With 1.28 Million Viewers

Hogwarts Legacy is completely dominating the Twitch charts with record-breaking numbers. In a tweet, developer Avalanche Software confirmed that their new open-world Harry Potter RPG hit a peak concurrent viewership of 1.28 million viewers on the live-streaming platform. The news broke amidst some streamer drama, where individuals completely boycotted the game, owing to its association with the original author J.K. Rowling. This milestone perches Hogwarts Legacy as the no. 1 single-player game on Twitch — during the launch period — surpassing the records set by Cyberpunk 2077 and 2022’s Game of the Year winner Elden Ring.

For now, Hogwarts Legacy is playable as part of a 72-hour early access, granted to those who pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition. (The global launch is set for later tonight.) The aforementioned numbers, alongside it being one of the most wishlisted titles on Steam, go to show how much hype and anticipation Hogwarts Legacy generated since its initial gameplay footage leaked in 2018. As per the performance metrics website Gamesight (via Kotaku), the multiplayer FPS title Valorant currently stands in the first position with a peak viewership of 1.7 million on Twitch, during its launch period. Part of it was fueled by a Riot Games campaign, which granted viewers early access to the game, in exchange for watching participating streamers.

Hogwarts Legacy Early Impressions: A Worthy Return to the Wizarding World

Hogwarts Legacy, while positioned third on that chart, comes out on top, generating the most traffic for a single-player game launch. Cyberpunk 2077 falls right behind, reaching a peak concurrent viewership of 1.14 million, despite the technical and performance issues plaguing the game at launch. Earlier this week, Félix “xQc” Lengyel, one of the biggest streamers on Twitch, streamed Hogwarts Legacy to over 108,000 live viewers.

As per data tracking site SteamDB, Hogwarts Legacy amassed 489,139 concurrent players — marking one of the biggest early access launches on the platform. Games analyst Benji-Sales tweeted that the figure represents the second-highest player peak in history, for any paid, single-player-only game. With these numbers, Hogwarts Legacy has dethroned 2015’s Fallout 4 (472,962 peak active players) and stands behind Cyberpunk 2077, which broke the 1 million mark. Technically, the second place goes to Elden Ring, but it has a multiplayer PvP and summoning element to it — essentially removing it from the race. For what it’s worth, the GOTY winner had an all-time peak of 953,426 concurrent players.

Despite gaining good traction, some streamers on Twitch have been going through a hard time trying to broadcast it. Harry Potter author Rowling’s highly-controversial comments against the transgender community inspired backlash from the LGBTQ+ community — some of which seeped into Hogwarts Legacy, as launch time neared. While the developer affirmed on its FAQ page that Rowling was not involved in the creation of the game, some fans are boycotting it in protest, as the author still stands to earn royalties from the enchanting universe she created. A vocal minority of the group took to Twitch, as a means to berate streamers who chose to play Hogwarts Legacy. Sam Gibbs, a web developer, even created a watchdog website — now offline — that monitored whether a particular Twitch streamer played “THAT wizard game.”

Hogwarts Legacy launches tonight at 12am IST (midnight), across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. The old-gen PS4 and Xbox One versions are set for an April 4 release, while the Nintendo Switch version drops July 25.

Apex Legends Season 16 Brings Team Deathmatch, to Be First Season Without New Hero

Apex Legends season 16 is right around the corner, and ahead of that, Respawn Entertainment has revealed some new changes to the game. For the first time ever, the new season will not introduce a new hero/ character to the game. Instead, the studio is adding the much-requested Team Deathmatch mode, which pits six players against each other in high-stakes combat. The new season, titled ‘Revelry,’ will also rework classes for its Legends, whilst adding a new energy class weapon called Nemesis. Apex Legends season 16 kicks off February 14 across all major platforms.

Team Deathmatch, much like precious limited-time modes in Apex Legends, will be accessible for the first three weeks of the new season. As per Kotaku, the new game mode will be similar to deathmatches in other games — devoid of downtime, with quick respawns as the players rack up kills for their team. With six players on either side, the first team to get 30 kills wins the round. It’s a best-of-three scenario, where winning two rounds perches your team to victory. At the start of the match, players will get to pick a loadout comprising a slew of weapons, alongside a grenade. That said, if your team is at a disadvantage, you can switch between heroes as you wish — akin to Overwatch — and use their skillset to your advantage.

That said, Respawn Entertainment is removing the Arenas game mode from Apex Legends. “At its core, Apex Legends is a Battle Royale and the team wants to help players master the core game mode, and in its current state Arenas is not meeting our goals,” the blog post reads. The idea behind incorporating non-battle royale modes in Apex Legends is to get new players to be familiar with the game’s core loop, which involves cycling between weapons, characters, and skills, whose knowledge can then be transferred to the main game. Otherwise, you’d see most new players getting absolutely rolled by experienced ones, within minutes of landing on the map.

Respawn is also bringing a rotating mode playlist for limited-time events. Dubbed ‘Mixtape,’ the new feature is slated to arrive in early March and will allow players to select from a rotation of TDM, Gun Run, and Control modes — intense situations with low downtime. Additionally, there’s a new weapon — Nemesis — coming in, but the studio hasn’t revealed much besides confirming it is energy-based.

As stated before, in season 16, the developer is breaking with tradition and won’t release a new hero. Instead, the team is reworking their Class system by assigning each Legend to one of them. For now, there are five classes: Assault, Recon, Controller, Skirmisher, and Support. “Each class will now have some kind of meaningful, unique perk—whether that be the way a Legend can interact with new loot bins or new ways to revive teammates,” the blog reads. Previously, all 23 characters from the roster were classified as Offensive, Defensive, Recon, and Support. Further information on the same will be revealed in time, according to Respawn.

Apex Legends season 16 — Revelry — kicks off February 14 across PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. Earlier this month, the studio announced that it is shutting down the mobile version.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Gets a New Launch Window, Will Release by September 2023

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will not release until April, at the soonest. In its latest earnings report, co-publisher Nacon confirmed that the much-awaited action-adventure title is eyeing a launch in the first half of fiscal year 2023–24. This translates to a release window from April, stretching all the way into September 2023. Originally slated for a 2021 release, this marks the third delay for the game, with developer Daedalic Entertainment previously claiming to have merely pushed back the launch by “a few months.” This new development moves the timeline even further into 2023.

Daedalic’s most recent update was in September last year — a delay to ensure The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was in the best technical state upon release. While not explicitly mentioned, part of this shake-up probably had to do with the unsavoury fan response they received for the gameplay trailer — key points of critique being the outdated graphics and textures. As for the gameplay itself, players will be plunged into old Middle-earth, in a tightly-woven story that explores Gollum’s journey after he loses the One Ring to Bilbo Baggins. Drawing heavily from author J.R.R. Tolkien’s original material, the game essentially serves as a prelude to Peter Jackson’s The Fellowship of the Ring.

Much of the gameplay in The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is focused on stealth, which is a given since the titular character isn’t exactly the strongest in terms of physicality. That said, Gollum is extremely agile, which lets him crawl and climb onto surfaces with ease and without drawing much attention. Keeping with his split personality, his two sides, Gollum and Sméagol, become a mechanic during moments of conflict, where players must decide whether to take the timid approach or the cunningly evil route. “One mind, two egos — you decide!”, reads the description on Steam. At the time, the footage also highlighted a swimming mechanic with an oxygen counter. However, it was set in a first-person perspective, begging the question of whether one could switch camera perspectives at will. All other gameplay footage was present from the third-person perspective.

Beyond The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, there are other Middle-earth franchise video games in the works. First up is a fresh, unnamed title from Private Division and Weta Workshop — the latter is known for providing visual effects and prop work in the LoTR and the Hobbit movies. More details on the same will be revealed in time. Then there’s The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, a survival crafting and base-building title, in which players take control of a company of Dwarves to reclaim the lost spoils from their homeland of Moria. It is eyeing a release sometime this year.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be available to play across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch.

Persona 4 Golden, Persona 3 Portable out on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series S/X in January 2023

Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable are coming to modern consoles next year. In a tweet, developer Atlus confirmed that its two critically-acclaimed JRPGs are headed to Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X, in January 2023. While the promotional image only notes Microsoft platforms and Xbox Game Pass, Atlus had previously guaranteed their arrival on other consoles too. Persona 4 Golden has been up on the Steam marketplace since 2020, and even got verified for the Steam Deck, earlier this year.

Following its original launch in 2006, Persona 3 was ported to the PSP — with new story elements — making it accessible to players worldwide. Under the new banner, “Persona 3 Portable,” it marked the first and only time possible to play as a female protagonist, as you joined the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES), and investigate the Dark Hour — a time anomaly set between night and day. In addition to fighting Shadows in the Tartarus realm, players can partake in slice-of-life events, where they form social links with other characters, granting experience bonuses.

Persona 4 Golden has been the more accessible entry, first launching on the PlayStation Vita, and later on PC. Regarded as one of the greatest games of all time, it expands upon the traditional JRPG elements, by letting the protagonist explore life as they see fit. When not fighting Shadows in the bizarre “TV World,” players can join school clubs, work part-time jobs, and form bonds with other NPCs. This would be the first time either game is headed to Xbox consoles, and will be available day one via Game Pass.

To help with the wait, Atlus is releasing Persona 5 Royal on October 21, across all major platforms. At launch, this refined version will include all 45 previously-released DLC for free, which packages new costumes, storylines, and Raoul, a full-fledged new Persona, for use in-game. As a regular student, the player must attend classes and participate in extracurricular activities, while moonlighting as a Phantom Thief, infiltrating corrupt adult minds. The game will also feature a Metaverse Navigator, letting you scale walls and vault over obstacles, simplifying the Treasure hunting process.

Furthermore, Atlus confirmed it has a Persona 5 Royal card game planned for next year. The studio will partner with Pandasaurus Games for publication, and is slated to release in Q4 2023. “Players will take on the roles of their favourite Phantom Thieves and fight to change the world in this cooperative card-based strategy game,” renowned board game designer, Emerson Matsuuchi said in a prepared statement.

Both Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable launch January 19, 2023, across PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.

Resident Evil Village DLC: Winters’ Expansion With Third-Person Mode Launches October 28

Resident Evil Village DLC, Winters’ Expansion releases on October 28. Capcom dropped a trailer for the expansion, at the Tokyo Game Show, held Thursday, revealing the major additions coming to its newest survival-horror title. The DLC brings a third-person mode to Resident Evil Village, alongside a “Shadows of Rose“ story campaign and new characters and stages in the Mercenaries mode. Those who don’t own the main game can purchase the Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, a bundle comprising all the content, launching October 28, across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, and PC.

Resident Evil Village Winters’ Expansion – Third-person mode

The DLC’s first major feature is the highly-requested third-person mode, which as the name implies, shifts the camera to an over-the-shoulder perspective. Fans will be able to recognise this camera angle from the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes, which brings some added shakiness during tense chase sequences. Ethan Winters can now be seen in action with new animations that weren’t present at launch. This includes the newly added kick and guard actions, which were added to the newer, first-person RE games. “–experience a new sense of fear from this fresh perspective,” says the video voiceover.

Resident Evil Village: Winters’ Expansion – Shadows of Rose

The Winters’ Expansion DLC brings a fully-playable Shadows of Rose side-story to the mix. Presented in a third-person perspective, the campaign follows Rosemary Winters — Ethan’s daughter — 16 years after the events of Resident Evil Village. Exploring the warped and twisted realm of the fungal root, Megamycete, Rose must conquer her fears and fend off incoming zombie-like foes.

However, even a single attack from these enemies is fatal, throwing healing herbs and other buffs out of the window. One bite — in this case, suction — is enough to get you killed. To balance the combat, Rose is equipped with an icy elemental attack, that lets her freeze enemies, causing them to slow down and creating opportunities for headshots.

Resident Evil Village Winters’ Expansion – Mercenaries

The final piece of content is “The Mercenaries Additional Orders.” Players will step into the shoes of Resident Evil Village’s antagonists, and wreak havoc on armed werewolves. The new expansion lets you play as Lady Dimitrescu and Lord Heisenberg, who wield unique abilities in battle. In the Winters’ Expansion trailer, the tall vampire lady can be seen applying lipstick, while mutant Heisenberg smokes a big cigar — adding to their character.

Furthermore, Capcom confirmed that Resident Evil Village will soon be playable on macOS, provided the system is equipped with an M1 or M2 chip. A Nintendo Switch version is also launching on October 28, albeit it is a cloud version, letting players stream the game onto their handheld devices. Internet connection will be required throughout playtime.

Resident Evil Village Winters’ Expansion and its Gold Edition bundle launches on October 28, on the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, and PC. On PC (Steam), the expansion is available for pre-order at Rs. 1,199.

PlayStation Confirms State of Play Event for September 14 in India, Nintendo Direct Tonight

Sony has confirmed a brand-new State of Play presentation for tomorrow. The show will be about 20 minutes long, and promises updates for 10 games, across the PS5, PS4, and PS VR2. The event will be live across PlayStation’s official YouTube and Twitch channels on September 14 at 3:30am IST in India, and September 13, 3:00pm PT in the US. Moreover, even Nintendo has plans to host a game showcase with their Nintendo Direct event.

The announcement comes ahead of Tokyo Game Show, which kicks off later in the week. Sony remains quite vague on the details, but notes that the presentation will feature some “ great updates from our amazing Japanese partners, along with a few other surprises from developers all around the world.” PlayStation’s close partners in crime include Capcom, which confirmed back in June, that Resident Evil Village is headed to PS VR2. The next-gen virtual reality headset is launching sometime in early 2023, so this would be an ideal time for Sony to showcase its potential. Some gameplay footage for the Resident Evil 4 remake should also be expected — set for a March 2023 release.

Much earlier than that, we have the Nintendo Direct event — a 40-minute-long presentation, focusing on games launching in the winter. The show will be live streamed on Nintendo’s official YouTube channel on September 13 at 7:30pm IST in India. For US audiences, this translates to September 13 at 7:00 am PT. As usual, the Japanese publisher has not teased what reveals they have in store for us, causing fans around the world to speculate that the “Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” — working title — will be shown.

Nintendo also confirmed that the event won’t be broadcast live on its UK YouTube channel, out of respect for the national mourning period, following Queen Elizabeth II’s demise. “As a mark of respect during this period of national mourning, we will not live stream tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct,” said Nintendo UK. Instead, the publisher will make a video-on-demand presentation available later on the channel at 4:00pm UK time.

In other news, Nintendo’s latest, Splatoon 3 has smashed video game launch records in Japan. The third iteration in the paint shooting franchise reached 3.45 million unit sales in the country, nearly doubling the sales of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The game launched on September 9, and marks the highest domestic sales level for any Nintendo Switch software — within the first three days.
