Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Director Wants to Make Cal Kestis’ Story a Trilogy

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is still over a month away from launch, but that hasn’t stopped developers Respawn Entertainment from considering a trilogy. Speaking to IGN, director Stig Asmussen revealed that he would like to see Jedi Knight Cal Kestis’ (Cameron Monaghan) arc stretched to a third and final title. While its possibility depends on how well this upcoming game performs, he claims that sequel discussions were happening before even 2019’s Jedi: Fallen Order was out. If a threequel is greenlit, Asmussen stated that it would most likely be built using Unreal Engine 5.

“I always wanted to see this as a trilogy,” Asmussen told IGN. “How can we take Cal and the crew to new places beyond what we were doing in the first game?” With Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the development team had mapped out the timeframe (the game is set five years after the events of the first game), the stakes involved, its general tone, and explored ideas beyond the main story. Shifting over from Unreal Engine 4 would also be difficult since there are a “lot of proprietary things” that the current engine has been conditioned/ optimised to do — some of it requiring some retooling to get it to work on the new engine.

Last month, some new Star Wars Jedi: Survivor gameplay emerged, courtesy of IGN, touching upon the exploration of the planet Koboh. After crashlanding onto the planet, early in the game, Kestis must reach the Cantina to find someone who could help repair his ship. The exploration is massively improved upon from the first game through tameable beasts that can be used as mounts, the ability to fast travel, and icons that inform you about closed-off areas that can only be accessed once you unlock specific abilities. Drawing inspiration from Dark Souls games, fast travel in Jedi: Survivor works by finding meditation points, where one can rest to reset any ailments and select previously discovered checkpoints to warp towards. The game also draws from Metroid for its level design by locking away parts of the world and then forcing Kestis to find new gear/ skill upgrades, come back, and gain access to those areas.

The planet Koboh also serves as the central hub world, sprawling with NPCs to interact with and shops to purchase items from. In addition to your adorable droid BD-1, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor also features a new companion in Bode Akuna, who, as Asmussen previously mentioned, has a brother-like relationship with Kestis. A report suggests that he will accompany us on missions and actively participate in combat encounters by drawing enemy attention. Players can also command him to perform special moves that deal devastating damage.

Another gameplay reveal from last month offered a glimpse into some of Kestis’ fight stances, with him now being able to dual-wield lightsabers, or even join its hilts together to form a twin-blade staff that can be spun around to block incoming projectiles. You can also fling enemies into the air now, causing them to levitate above ground for a while. Previously, in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Force abilities were limited to push and pull.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is set to release April 28 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.

Forza Horizon 5: Rally Adventure Expansion Release Date Set for March 29: All Details

Forza Horizon 5 raced to success and acclaim when it launched in November 2021 on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X consoles. Playground Games followed up with the Hot Wheels expansion in July last year. Now, the developers have announced the game’s second major expansion, Forza Horizon 5: Rally Adventure. In a livestream early Friday, Playground Games revealed that the Rally Adventure expansion will be available March 29 across Xbox consoles, PC on Windows and Steam, and Cloud Gaming (Beta). The expansion will bring a new “rally experience” to Forza Horizon, introducing three different rally teams to race across six biomes that form the new Sierra Nueva region.

According to the developers, Forza Horizon 5: Rally Adventure will feature the largest number of events in any Forza Horizon expansion. Just like Hot Wheels, the upcoming expansion will be a paid expansion and will be included in the Forza Horizon 5 Premium Add-ons Bundle, Premium Edition, and Expansions Bundle. The Rally Adventure expansion will also be available as a standalone purchase priced at Rs. 1,299.

With the new expansion, Forza Horizon 5 will head to a dusty new location, Sierra Nueva. Familiar characters from the main game lead three different rally teams across Dirt and Offroad, Night Rally, and Asphalt Rally events. Once players sign on for a team, they will compete in eight races, before a showdown event with the leader.

The expansion will also introduce 10 new off-road vehicles, new music for the soundtrack, and rally-specific vehicle parts for customisation.

The events themselves will include timed point-to-point Horizon Rally stages and traditional multi-car Horizon Races, Playground Games said in a blog. True to the rally experience, races in the new expansion will feature navigator callouts. New rally-specific HUD elements will also be included. While it won’t be a hardcore rally experience, the Rally Adventure expansion will bring certain changes to make rallying feel more authentic.

The Forza Horizon:5 Rally Adventure expansion is available for pre-order on both Steam and Xbox storefronts. It arrives March 29 on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.

Mortal Kombat 12 Confirmed by Warner Bros., Scheduled for 2023 Release

Mortal Kombat 12 is coming this year. During its quarterly earnings call, parent company Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed the existence of the highly-anticipated fighter sequel with “ambitious launch projections.” NetherRealm Studios has remained quite secretive about this project. But in June, Andrew Bowen, voice actor for Johnny Cage in the Mortal Kombat games, tweeted a video of him at the Warner Bros. parking lot. This caused fans to assume that a new iteration was in development, though director Ed Boon later told IGN that it was for a separate project. With Warner Bros. themselves announcing the game now, it seems Boon was lying after all.

“And there’s lots more to come, including the highly-anticipated Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League — games also set to release this year, with ambitious launch projections,” Andrew Slabin, Executive VP, WBD, said in the earnings call. Creator Boon also jokingly acknowledged the silent announcement on Twitter asking people if they had heard any news about Injustice 3. Both are developed by NetherRealm Studios. While fans were expecting to see the Injustice threequel as well, games journalist Jeff Grubb shut it down in 2021, claiming that the studio was prioritising the next Mortal Kombat game. At the time, NetherRealm’s future with publisher WB Games seemed uncertain, as overall owner AT&T was looking to sell sections of its gaming business.

“It lines up with the reality and it lines up with what I’ve heard, where Mortal Kombat 12 would make the most sense because that’s a game they know will make money, it will sell well…”, Grubb said on his GiantBomb show. “At the same time, you don’t have to use any of these Batman or Superman characters that might be tied up in licensing if you try to get rid of NetherRealm or sell it to whoever.” Since 2013, NetherRealm has alternated between releasing Injustice and Mortal Kombat. However, going for the latter made sense and was safer since director Boon essentially created the Mortal Kombat franchise and its characters. Meanwhile, DC Comics and its characters are owned by Warner Bros. and it would have caused licensing issues at the time. Even more so, if NetherRealm was sold off to another publisher midway through Injustice 3’s development.

2023 promises to be an exciting year for fighting game fans, as the aforementioned Mortal Kombat 12 will go up against Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8. In our 8/10 review of Mortal Kombat 11, we criticised its repetitive formula that follows a similar style to the Injustice games but offers a lot more control. “It stands out as the best entry in the new trilogy and presents you with a lot to explore, learn and even master.”

If things go as planned, Mortal Kombat 12 is likely to release on all major platforms — PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. Moreover, expecting an old-gen PS4 and Xbox One release isn’t far-fetched, given it’s a competitive esports franchise.

Valve Sets Trap, Permanently Bans Over 40,000 Dota 2 Players for Cheating: Details

Over 40,000 Dota 2 players have been banned in the past couple of weeks, having been caught using third-party software to cheat in games. Dota 2 developer Valve hasn’t revealed what the software was, but stated in a detailed blog post that the app in question was able to access internal data used by the Dota client. Under normal circumstances, this information should not be available to regular players, as it would provide an unfair advantage. However, upon learning how the cheats worked, Valve laid out a trap via a downloadable patch, containing a “secret” area in the client that could only be accessed using third-party software. Understandably, the players that fell for the trap were soon hit with the heavy end of Valve’s ban hammer.

“This patch created a honeypot: a section of data inside the game client that would never be read during normal gameplay, but that could be read by these exploits. Each of the accounts banned today read from this ‘secret’ area in the client, giving us extremely high confidence that every ban was well-deserved,” the statement from Valve reads. This ban wave sure is huge, but Dota 2 wanted to set a visible example for the community, with no exceptions for professional players either, who if caught cheating, will be prohibited from all of Valve’s competitive/ esports events. These initial bans should also deter any potential cheaters, who are safe for now, from continuing their nefarious activities — be it auto-aim for abilities, champions hurling out attacks right when a target comes into proximity range, seeing through the Fog of War, and more.

Valve concludes by claiming that it will continue its pursuit of cheaters in Dota 2 by removing new exploits as they come, and thanking all those who individually reported players and scrubbed through overwatch cases to deal justified punishments. In recent times, the US-based company isn’t the only one trying to ward cheaters from its ecosystem. Earlier this week, Ubisoft banned nearly 19,000 accounts, the owners of which were found to be using cheats within their games. The company hasn’t revealed the specifics of what games or the type of software that was used.

Additionally, a new ‘Mousetrap’ update to Rainbow Six Siege aims to sniff out players using hardware devices such as XIM to use a keyboard and mouse with an Xbox console — granting better movement and targeting against those using a controller. However, instead of being handed a ban, Ubisoft will gradually increase input lag on those systems — essentially pestering you until you pick up the controller again. Meanwhile, Riot Games has warned its players that some new cheats could be emerging, given that source codes for League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics were stolen last month.

Diablo IV Open Beta Begins in March, Blizzard Confirms: Details

Diablo IV is getting a pair of beta test sessions next month. As per developer Blizzard, those who pre-ordered the title gain early access from March 17–19, granting a deeper look into the early game, which includes the Prologue and Act 1. In the following week, from March 24–26, all players can participate in the open beta period and experience the might of the Burning Hells, albeit levelling will be capped off at 25. The upcoming Diablo 4 also bears a battle pass system focused on cosmetics and is slated to release June 6 on PC and consoles.

Both beta periods will offer a first taste of the Diablo IV campaign, as players will get to explore the snowy tundras of the Fractured Peaks and face numerous demons prowling in the dark. While there is no specific mention of how long this region will take to clear, Blizzard claims that Act 1 content will be present in its entirety. Though, since it’s a beta, better expect minor performance issues and outages. All feedback collected from the open beta periods will be evaluated to make final tweaks for when the game launches. During IGN’s Fan Fest event, the studio also dropped a cinematic that served as a peek into the secluded, icy ranges, on which a custom-created weary traveller stumbles onto a mysterious, bloodthirsty foe. Blizzard also iterated that any progress made during the beta will not be carried over to the full purchase.

According to IGN, any custom character you create will be featured in multiple cinematics in exact likeness, depending on what cosmetics and appearance you set in the character creator screen. As stated before, Diablo 4 includes a battle pass system, covering a variety of clothing choices, tattoos, weapons, hairstyles, and emotes. However, it is divided into two parts: Free and Premium. The former is open to all and provides gameplay boosts to all players, depending on what challenges you complete. The Premium version costs $10 (about Rs. 827) worth of in-game currency and is solely focused on aesthetics. That said, Blizzard hasn’t revealed if one could use any gameplay-unlocked currency to purchase further versions of the battle pass.

These items can be unlocked within three months since they first show up on the battle pass, after which Diablo IV begins its new season. This implies that each season will run for three months — a fairly common practice. The latest instalment in the Diablo franchise also adds a new Necromancer class, wherein players can summon and command corpses to perform evil deeds on its vast, semi-open-world map and face demons such as Lilith, the Queen of the Succubi.

Diablo IV releases June 6 on PC (via Battle.net), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. The beta will be accessible across all platforms.

Five Lord of the Rings Games Are Launching Within the Next 2 Years, Embracer Group Says

Five Lord of the Rings games are in development at Embracer Group. As per the company’s latest financial report, all those titles are planned to be released within the next two years — specifically, within the next financial year, which runs from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024. Back in August, Embracer Group purchased IP rights to The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit literary works by J.R.R. Tolkien, joining its vast catalogue of over 800 owned and controlled properties. While no exact titles were revealed in the briefing, we’re already aware of at least four of them to be in development for a while now.

The first is The Lord of the Rings: Gollum from Daedalic Entertainment, which recently received a new release window, alluding to a launch sometime before September, this year. Originally set for a 2021 release, the title suffered multiple delays, with the previous developer update stating that it needed more time to ensure an optimised performance at launch. While not explicitly said, the shake-up was possibly attributed to the negative fan reaction to its gameplay trailer, where many called out the game’s outdated graphics. Earlier this month, publisher Nacon announced an exclusive presentation for its upcoming titles, set for March 9, which also includes LOTR: Gollum. Hopefully, the game’s in a better state now.

“–this acquisition has generated a lot of interest among both internal and external partners for the Lord of the Rings IP, across different media formats. There are currently five games in production by external partners, to be released in the financial year 2023/24,” Embracer Group said in its financial report. Beyond Gollum, Free Range Games is known to be working on The Lord of the Rings: Moria, a survival crafting and base-building game centred around the Dwarves, as they set forth on an adventure to reclaim their lost home of Moria, located beneath the Misty Mountains. It is slated for release sometime this year on PC. A third untitled game based on the Middle-earth franchise is in development at Weta Workshop — the same digital effects company that has experience working on the original Peter Jackson movie trilogy. Private Division (OlliOlli World) is publishing it and is expected to launch in the fiscal year 2024.

The last one is possibly EA’s The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth, a mobile game focused on turn-based combat, a wide roster of characters from the fantasy universe, and “deep collection systems.” There aren’t many details about this game, but a press release notes “in-game purchases (including random items)” — raising suspicion as to whether it’s a gacha game, in the same vein as Genshin Impact. As mentioned before, there haven’t been any sightings of a fifth LOTR video game.

The report additionally notes that a movie, produced by an “external partner” is in development. Back in November, the company shut down Onoma (formerly Square Enix Montréal) merely three weeks after the rebranding. It was reported that Embracer wanted to shift focus to PC and console releases, with some of the staff being moved to Eidos-Montréal studio.

Hogwarts Legacy Sets Biggest Single-Player Game Record on Twitch With 1.28 Million Viewers

Hogwarts Legacy is completely dominating the Twitch charts with record-breaking numbers. In a tweet, developer Avalanche Software confirmed that their new open-world Harry Potter RPG hit a peak concurrent viewership of 1.28 million viewers on the live-streaming platform. The news broke amidst some streamer drama, where individuals completely boycotted the game, owing to its association with the original author J.K. Rowling. This milestone perches Hogwarts Legacy as the no. 1 single-player game on Twitch — during the launch period — surpassing the records set by Cyberpunk 2077 and 2022’s Game of the Year winner Elden Ring.

For now, Hogwarts Legacy is playable as part of a 72-hour early access, granted to those who pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition. (The global launch is set for later tonight.) The aforementioned numbers, alongside it being one of the most wishlisted titles on Steam, go to show how much hype and anticipation Hogwarts Legacy generated since its initial gameplay footage leaked in 2018. As per the performance metrics website Gamesight (via Kotaku), the multiplayer FPS title Valorant currently stands in the first position with a peak viewership of 1.7 million on Twitch, during its launch period. Part of it was fueled by a Riot Games campaign, which granted viewers early access to the game, in exchange for watching participating streamers.

Hogwarts Legacy Early Impressions: A Worthy Return to the Wizarding World

Hogwarts Legacy, while positioned third on that chart, comes out on top, generating the most traffic for a single-player game launch. Cyberpunk 2077 falls right behind, reaching a peak concurrent viewership of 1.14 million, despite the technical and performance issues plaguing the game at launch. Earlier this week, Félix “xQc” Lengyel, one of the biggest streamers on Twitch, streamed Hogwarts Legacy to over 108,000 live viewers.

As per data tracking site SteamDB, Hogwarts Legacy amassed 489,139 concurrent players — marking one of the biggest early access launches on the platform. Games analyst Benji-Sales tweeted that the figure represents the second-highest player peak in history, for any paid, single-player-only game. With these numbers, Hogwarts Legacy has dethroned 2015’s Fallout 4 (472,962 peak active players) and stands behind Cyberpunk 2077, which broke the 1 million mark. Technically, the second place goes to Elden Ring, but it has a multiplayer PvP and summoning element to it — essentially removing it from the race. For what it’s worth, the GOTY winner had an all-time peak of 953,426 concurrent players.

Despite gaining good traction, some streamers on Twitch have been going through a hard time trying to broadcast it. Harry Potter author Rowling’s highly-controversial comments against the transgender community inspired backlash from the LGBTQ+ community — some of which seeped into Hogwarts Legacy, as launch time neared. While the developer affirmed on its FAQ page that Rowling was not involved in the creation of the game, some fans are boycotting it in protest, as the author still stands to earn royalties from the enchanting universe she created. A vocal minority of the group took to Twitch, as a means to berate streamers who chose to play Hogwarts Legacy. Sam Gibbs, a web developer, even created a watchdog website — now offline — that monitored whether a particular Twitch streamer played “THAT wizard game.”

Hogwarts Legacy launches tonight at 12am IST (midnight), across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. The old-gen PS4 and Xbox One versions are set for an April 4 release, while the Nintendo Switch version drops July 25.

Xbox Game Pass February 2023: Atomic Heart, Madden NFL 23, and More

Xbox Game Pass is adding six new titles during the first half of February, which includes Atomic Heart as a day-one title. In it, you’re transported to a steampunk-ish utopian world where man and robot once used to live in harmony. A technological error caused the metallic beings to gain a mind of their own and wage war against humans. Armed with a power glove and cutting-edge weaponry, players are pitted into explosive encounters in search of the greater truth. Atomic Heart releases February 20 on PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. Just in time for the Super Bowl LVII event, Xbox is also bringing Madden NFL 23 to Game Pass. It will be available for free as part of the EA Play subscription, which is included in the Game Pass Ultimate subscription.

Atomic Heart isn’t the only gory addition to Xbox Game Pass this month, as Shadow Warrior 3: Definitive Edition slashes into Xbox Cloud Gaming, Xbox One, and PC, on February 16. This off-beat FPS deploys you onto a mythic Asian land, infested by demonic Yokai from Japanese folklore, in order to recapture an ancient dragon. Kitted with a katana and an arsenal of heavy firearms, you are set free onto the lands to slay enemies in a Doom-like, high-octane fashion. A bit before that, set forth on an epic, medieval adventure in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, as you build a party of soldiers, complete quests, raid camps, and command and engage in all-out battles against enemy troops. It will be available February 14, on cloud, console, and PC.

Cities: Skylines is coming to current-gen consoles by way of a ‘Remastered’ tag, which essentially takes advantage of their horsepower to show more tiles on screen — on par with the standard PC version. Arriving February 15 on cloud and the Xbox Series S/X, this city-building simulator puts you in the shoes of a mayor, as you design structures and streets, in addition to balancing basic public requirements such as education, law enforcement, healthcare, and more. It also features a day and night cycle, where once the sun goes down, traffic gets realistically slower. For the mecha heads out there, this month, Xbox is bringing SD Gundam Battle Alliance later tonight. In it, you acquire mobile suits and relive the greatest moments from Gundam history, which are getting tarnished by a mysterious phenomenon.

Beyond that, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers gain early access trial to EA’s response to the Monster Hunter franchise, Wild Hearts. Gates to the fantasy landscape of Azuma will open three days earlier on February 13, offering limited access to the game. If you decide to buy the game on launch, all progress and save data will be carried over, and you get a 10 percent discount for being an EA Play member.

Earlier this month, Xbox also brought the gothic roguelike Darkest Dungeon and the motorsport title Grid: Legends to Game Pass.

February 9
Madden NFL 23 — PC and console
SD Gundam Battle Alliance — PC, cloud, and console

February 14
Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord — PC, cloud, and console

February 15
Cities: Skylines – Remastered — cloud and Xbox Series S/X (PS5 too)

February 16
Shadow Warrior 3: Definitive Edition — PC, cloud, and console

February 20
Atomic Heart — PC, cloud, and console

Additionally, Microsoft has confirmed some titles to be leaving the service. On February 15, you can say goodbye to the Besiege preview, CrossfireX, Infernax, Recompile, Skul: The Hero Slayer, and The Last Kids on Earth.

And as usual, before they disappear from the service, you can choose to buy them at a 20 percent discount.

Apex Legends Season 16 Brings Team Deathmatch, to Be First Season Without New Hero

Apex Legends season 16 is right around the corner, and ahead of that, Respawn Entertainment has revealed some new changes to the game. For the first time ever, the new season will not introduce a new hero/ character to the game. Instead, the studio is adding the much-requested Team Deathmatch mode, which pits six players against each other in high-stakes combat. The new season, titled ‘Revelry,’ will also rework classes for its Legends, whilst adding a new energy class weapon called Nemesis. Apex Legends season 16 kicks off February 14 across all major platforms.

Team Deathmatch, much like precious limited-time modes in Apex Legends, will be accessible for the first three weeks of the new season. As per Kotaku, the new game mode will be similar to deathmatches in other games — devoid of downtime, with quick respawns as the players rack up kills for their team. With six players on either side, the first team to get 30 kills wins the round. It’s a best-of-three scenario, where winning two rounds perches your team to victory. At the start of the match, players will get to pick a loadout comprising a slew of weapons, alongside a grenade. That said, if your team is at a disadvantage, you can switch between heroes as you wish — akin to Overwatch — and use their skillset to your advantage.

That said, Respawn Entertainment is removing the Arenas game mode from Apex Legends. “At its core, Apex Legends is a Battle Royale and the team wants to help players master the core game mode, and in its current state Arenas is not meeting our goals,” the blog post reads. The idea behind incorporating non-battle royale modes in Apex Legends is to get new players to be familiar with the game’s core loop, which involves cycling between weapons, characters, and skills, whose knowledge can then be transferred to the main game. Otherwise, you’d see most new players getting absolutely rolled by experienced ones, within minutes of landing on the map.

Respawn is also bringing a rotating mode playlist for limited-time events. Dubbed ‘Mixtape,’ the new feature is slated to arrive in early March and will allow players to select from a rotation of TDM, Gun Run, and Control modes — intense situations with low downtime. Additionally, there’s a new weapon — Nemesis — coming in, but the studio hasn’t revealed much besides confirming it is energy-based.

As stated before, in season 16, the developer is breaking with tradition and won’t release a new hero. Instead, the team is reworking their Class system by assigning each Legend to one of them. For now, there are five classes: Assault, Recon, Controller, Skirmisher, and Support. “Each class will now have some kind of meaningful, unique perk—whether that be the way a Legend can interact with new loot bins or new ways to revive teammates,” the blog reads. Previously, all 23 characters from the roster were classified as Offensive, Defensive, Recon, and Support. Further information on the same will be revealed in time, according to Respawn.

Apex Legends season 16 — Revelry — kicks off February 14 across PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. Earlier this month, the studio announced that it is shutting down the mobile version.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Second Playable Demo Release Date Set for February 24

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is getting a playable demo, later this month. In a tweet, developer Team Ninja confirmed that a snippet of its upcoming fantasy souls-like title will be available to play for free starting February 24. Marking the second demo for the game, all saved data and progress from this version will carry over to the full purchase, across all platforms. As an added bonus, finishing the demo grants players the “Crouching Dragon Helmet” DLC in the final game. While this might seem like a steal at first, bear in mind, these games — successor to Nioh — are lauded for their steep difficulty that is likely to test your mettle. Thankfully, there is no mention of time limitations for how long you can play it.

In Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, you’re thrown into a dark fantastical version of Later Han Dynasty China, plagued by demonic monsters, that are dragging the prosperous realm into collapse. You play as a nameless militia soldier, plunged into the middle of chaos, to best deadly creatures and enemy footsoldiers in melee combat. Keeping in line with their previous Nioh series of games, learning to parry/ deflect attacks is highly beneficial here since it creates opportunities for counter-attacks. FromSoftware veterans can compare this experience to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, where simply blocking enemy attacks will lead to a slow, drawn-out fight.

The 41 Most Anticipated Games of 2023

Of course, all movesets are connected to some form of elemental attack, which is determined by what “phase” or combat style you pick early in the game. Fire represents lethal attacks, water is for stealth, the earth stands for defence, wood is for support, and metal aligns with debuffs. Depending on what phase you select, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty assigns exclusive stats, magic, equipment, and a Divine Beast, which assists you in combat via passive perks. A new addition to Team Ninja’s formula is a “Morale” system, which might initially appear as a difficulty level floating above the enemy’s heads, helping you gauge whether to engage in combat or not. Higher numbers represent stronger enemies, and the same applies to your character. However, in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, death results in the enemy stealing your morale, making them more powerful.

To make the journey easy for newcomers, however, the world is filled with flagposts, which basically function as bonfires or checkpoints where one could level up their characters and reset any ailments. Earlier this week, Team Ninja confirmed that players will be able to summon NPCs or warriors online to help defeat bosses — using Tiger Seals littered across the Three Kingdoms. While the former’s AI might not necessarily be adept, it will definitely help draw the attention of the enemy, while you keep striking them from a blind spot.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is set to release March 3 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. Those who are subscribed to Xbox Game Pass can play it for free on launch day.
