Hailey Bieber Already Wore the 2024 Trend We’re Betting On

Anyone who’s visited Hailey Bieber’s Instagram feed during Halloween knows that the model and entrepreneur loves a good holiday, especially when it means dressing to a theme. And now that we’ve entered into December territory, it appears that her outfits have switched over to another holiday. “Christmas glitter,” she captioned an IG slideshow on Sunday, showcasing one of the chicest festive looks of the year thus far.

To celebrate the holiday season’s arrival, Bieber chose a long-sleeved minidress made of bone-colored satin from Khaite, which was paired with matching sparkly tights, a Prada top-handle bag, Balenciaga pumps, and a black velvet hair bow from Emi Jay. But while her accessories certainly finished off the look, her dress was no doubt the star of the show, especially given how on-trend satin is at the moment. After a buzzy showing on the spring/summer 2024 runways at Tory Burch, Altuzarra, Carven, Louis Vuitton, and more, the luxurious material was destined to become a major deal in the year ahead. Now that Bieber’s gone and stamped it with a Rhode Raspberry Jelly Peptide Lip Tinted kiss, any last doubts there were about the trend’s popularity in 2024 were squashed for good.

Below, check out Bieber’s on-trend holiday ‘fit and shop the fabric everyone will be talking about and wearing post NYE.

This $25 J.Crew Item Is So Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy

I can’t be the only one who’s feed on every social media platform is currently home to a seemingly endless assortment of ’90s Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy photos. Not that I’m complaining—my Instagram Saved folder is just as packed with said images. Chic, sophisticated, and always dressed to the nines in a seemingly effortless manner, Bessette-Kennedy is the modern woman’s style icon for a reason. So anytime that I find an item that’s even remotely similar to one she frequented back then, I have to buy it. End of story.

Well, that’s exactly what happened today when I was scrolling through J.Crew and stumbled across a $25 tortoiseshell acetate headband that looks shockingly similar to the style Bessette-Kennedy wore on repeat, either with her corn-blonde hair worn straight and down or tied up in her signature chignon. (I saw on TikTok that she was rumored to have bought hers at C.O. Bigelow, an iconic New York City pharmacy in the West Village.) Of course, I ordered one right away and will probably be back for its Kelly green alternative. Follow my lead after looking through some of Bessette-Kennedy’s best headband-clad street-style looks.

Nordstrom’s Beloved Cashmere Sweaters Are On Sale For $100

I know this might sound weird, but my family has kind of an odd obsession with cashmere. Ever since I was little, cashmere sweaters, shawls, throws, or winter accessories like gloves, hats, and scarves were what people gifted each other, both on my mom’s side and my dad’s. It even become sort of a challenge of who can find the best cashmere for the most affordable price, be it because of deep discounts or some top-secret high-quality but low-price brand. (My mom’s pick was always Costco—IYKYK.) So it’s not all that strange that as an adult, my closet is now full of the super-soft fabric, both my own personal collection and pieces I’ve set aside to give away come the holidays or a birthday. Old habits die hard, especially when that habit’s so luxurious.

What I’m trying to say here is that I’ve tested a lot of cashmere in my 28 years, including the very highest quality, most expensive takes by brands like Khaite and Loro Piana. But honestly, the cashmere sweater I always come back to is the crewneck below from Nordstrom’s eponymous label.

The knit in question comes in a total of 17 colors—including neutrals and brighter, seasonal shades—and is currently on sale for Black Friday for just $100, meaning that the time has come for me to re-up my gifting stock ahead of the holidays. Nordstrom also makes an equally giftable V-neck silhouette for the same price, as well as more colors and extended sizes. Scroll down to shop the marked-down cashmere sweater I buy on sale year after year to wrap up and dole out this time of year.

Cleo Wade Releases Most Personal Work Yet With Remember Love

“This book is the most me I’ve ever felt on a page consistently,” Cleo Wade says of her fifth published work, a collection of prose and poetry called Remember Love: Words for Tender Times. Hitting shelves October 17, Remember Love explores how we can return to the light in darker times, how we find steadiness in the midst of an ever-changing and chaotic world, how we find love again after heartbreak, and how we find strength in letting go. On the page, it is Wade at her most vulnerable, a diary of sorts. For that reason, she is feeling understandably different about this piece of work. There’s a different sense of pride—not just that she wrote a book but that she did the work on herself and could create a road map for others. And there’s a different nervousness in finally sharing it with the world. “It’s really a personal triumph for me,” she says.

Remember Love came to Wade at a time when she least expected it. The New York Times best-selling author, activist, and poet had released four books—including Heart Talk, Where to Begin, and the children’s book What the Road Said—in rapid succession. After wrapping up an extended book tour while pregnant and splitting her time between Los Angeles, New York, and London, she hit severe burnout. She was unsure of what her future book life looked like and told her literary agent she wanted to explore different avenues and that she’d come back to writing in five years. Shortly after, Wade bumped into postpartum depression after the birth of her first daughter. As she sat in the bathtub one night with her mind in a haze as she listened to a meditation podcast by Tara Brach, attempting to do things she knows are good for her, she heard Brach say two words: “Remember love.” A light bulb clicked on.

“In the way that I know people have this experience with my own work, I had something snap in me,” Wade says. “It didn’t heal my postpartum depression, but I was in this fog, and it just gave me this bubble of clarity where I could witness myself for two minutes and be like, ‘Oh, whatever I think I’m doing, I need to change what my strategy is around getting through this.’ ‘Remember love’ ended up being the mantra that helped me because I was able to notice how love was not manifesting for myself. … I heard myself beating up myself, and I couldn’t hear that before because I was caught being that voice. There was almost this new thing that came, and that was to remember love. Can I be nice to myself? Could I be gentle? Could I look to this bottom place as a foundational starting point to change my life and my viewpoint? I got a Post-it note, and I wrote ‘Please remember love’ on it. I put it on the top of a board, and I started mapping this book from it.”

Wade went straight into reflection mode, recalling all of her life moments where it would have helped to remember love at the time. She went through experiences of personal heartbreak, the times she observed her friends go through things, the best advice she’d received from friends, and anything that she thought could be helpful to someone else. I describe this book as I went into the darkest rooms of my personal self or history and retraced my steps to how I found a light within to relight the room, refind myself, rebuild life in some way,” Wade says.

A few weeks before the release, we caught up with Wade to talk about the scary process of writing Remember Love, the idea that love is our birthright, and creating the ultimate community on tour.

19 Luxe Off-the-Shoulder Tops to Copy Meghan Markle’s Look

There aren’t a lot of clothing items that if you put them on Meghan Markle, won’t look incredible. Really, I’m not sure if there are any at all. But, as someone who’s studied her style from the Suits days until now, I can tell you that there are some pieces that stand out amongst the rest as being especially chic and memorable. One such example just made its debut this week, and already, I’m convinced that it’ll go down as the centerpiece of one of the humanitarian’s best outfits yet.

On Tuesday, Markle, along with Prince Harry, spoke on a panel in New York City called the Parents’ Summit: Mental Wellness in the Digital Age, which The Archewell Foundation, the couple’s charitable organization, put on with Project Healthy Minds for World Mental Health Day. For the speaking engagement, Markle chose one of the minimalist shades that she wears best, ivory, in the form of an off-the-shoulder Altuzarra blazer that she then paired with matching tailored trousers from the NYC-based brand and her go-to Aquazzura pumps.

Across fashion, off-the-shoulder silhouettes have been gaining momentum as the chic older sister to a basic tee, tank, or in this case, blazer. It adds a touch of sexiness while also maintaining an undeniable air of elegance and sophistication. So, it’s really no wonder why I and everyone else I’ve shown the below photo to have been equally obsessed with Markle’s look for the event. Sadly, her exact Altuzarra blazer already sold out (big surprise there), but there are plenty of equally alluring alternatives on the market, all of which are conveniently located below. Scroll down to see Markle’s look for the panel and shop the off-the-shoulder trend that’s taking over fashion right now.

The Banana Republic x Peter Do Collab Is Finally Here

If I’ve learned anything in my six years as a fashion editor, it’s just how much those in the industry lust over a good collaboration—emphasis on the word good. The concept of two brands coming together is nothing new, and in and of itself, nothing exciting. But when one partnership comes along that checks of every box—it feels authentic, there’s a reason it exists apart from that it can, and the clothes are chic—it stops everyone in their tracks. And then, it sends them scrambling to for their wallets.

Such is exactly what happened when, midway through August, Banana Republic—a brand that’s having a moment all on its own—announced an upcoming team-up with one of New York City’s buzziest design talents, Peter Do. Do, who’s namesake label has become one of the New York fashion scene’s favorites for timeless yet modern and cool wardrobe staples, is on the rise, with a new title as Helmut Lang’s creative director and Paris Fashion Week now added to his resume. But back then, you couldn’t buy it, and had no idea what the clothes would look like. That’s no longer the case now, though.

Almost two months after the word got out about the forthcoming line, Do’s Paris show doubled as a debut for a handful of the collaboration’s pieces, stirring up significant buzz. And this week, after everyone in fashion (myself included) had made their wishlist from the runway, all 36 items from the collection—ranging from basics like tanks, trousers, and button-down shirts to statement outerwear—are available to purchase. Well, most of them. Some have already sold out. Scroll down to shop the collaboration of the year before it’s too late.

Go Behind the Scenes of Fair Play’s Corporate Costume Design

The film raises a lot of uncomfortable questions about sex and power. How were those two themes showcased in the wardrobe?

With the Emily character, it was finding suits that just looked amazing on her, and throughout, we just wanted her to look really strong but then almost undoing the power of [the suits] with those slightly frilly blouses—blouses that are almost the color of lingerie [and] that have a sort of frail femininity to them. She is playing with that. She is using that femininity. Even though she’s got these shoulder pads and this little suit of armor, there is also this nod to her femininity, which I think women, especially in that world, do play with. I think that’s quite an interesting contrast. You have these super-sharp and super-slick and empowering suits, but then it’s then feminized with these really delicate silk blouses and little bits of lace and little bits of jewelry and heels you could probably only walk in for four hours.

Let’s talk a little more about Emily’s wardrobe. We see her go from being the underdog to a position of power in a very male-dominated world quite quickly. How did you want to show that evolution in her clothes?

The script—and film really—only spans a couple of weeks. When we sat down and looked at the timeline of it, it was a really compact time, and one of the things that really struck me reading the script is there is no time for extracurriculars. There are a couple of times they go to a bar, but it’s still work. It’s still with colleagues and the boss. Sure, maybe they get home and are on Net-a-Porter buying, buying, buying after buying, buying, buying all day long, but in reality, where does she suddenly acquire these pieces from? Especially at that point where Luke undermines her appearance, it really throws her, and she’s scared now to wear a blouse. She’s scared now to have that femininity. So the black roll-neck comes out, but that feels wrong. There’s this kind of panic.

I think one of my favorite outfits is the one she wears to the strip club. It was quite a brassy belt, bigger earrings. There is an air of confidence, the big cuff on the blouse. It’s just got a bit more swagger. And then the trouser suit—that fact she’s in trousers and not a skirt. For me, when you think about that progression, it’s like she has days when she’s feeling really great and days when Luke has just completely undermined her, and she has no confidence. It’s all so skin-deep and shallow. … Rather than just create this trajectory of “she goes from a cheap suit to a really expensive suit,” I wanted it to be like, “You are the same person inside, and we are going to try and bring a bit more power and confidence, but at the same time, that insecurity is still very much there.” Other than that very first scene at the wedding party when she’s in the dress and … a few other scenes in the flat where we see her in lingerie, it felt like there was no breathing space outside of that office, so I think it was more important to really keep her in that uniform.

What about Luke? Can you tell me about the sartorial story you were trying to tell with his workwear?

With him, we fitted many suits. I think he ended up with 10 or 12 suits. There were definitely ones that were a really nice cut and looked really good, and then there were others that weren’t quite as flattering, just not a great cut on him. Interestingly, in a way, I played the reverse on him. Whereas we were trying to make [Emily] more badass as the film goes on, with [Luke], there was almost a decline that’s happening, so we were favoring the really good suits at the top of the movie and then the slightly less… None of them were unflattering, but there were some that were… less impressive. With color and the fabrics, there were some that were a bit softer [and] not as sharp and solid, that felt not as assertive on camera, so we were playing those at the other end of the movie.
