AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) Updated With Adaptive Audio, Machine Learning-Powered Features and More: Details

AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) truly wireless stereo (TWS) earphones were introduced last year at Apple’s ‘Far Out’ launch event, and the iPhone maker is now updating its second-generation Pro headset with a few new features. The AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) arrived three years after the first model was launched and featured a new H2 chip with improved noise cancellation and transparency modes compared with its predecessor. Alongside the iOS 17 update that rolled out on Monday, Apple is also introducing new features on its wireless earphones.

Announced at WWDC 2023 in June, the first feature that has arrived on the AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) alongside the latest iOS 17 update, is Adaptive Audio. This mode dynamically combines the active noise cancellation (ANC) and transparency modes in real time, depending on the kind of environment the wearer is present in, according to the company. The feature will automatically be enabled and disabled, based on what they are doing and whether they are indoors or outdoors.

A new gesture that is now available on the AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) is the ability to pinch the stem of the headset to mute or unmute yourself when you are on a call. This can come in handy when you are on a call but your phone is charging and out of reach.

Meanwhile, a feature Apple calls Personalised Volume is also available that sets the audio playback level based on your surroundings using machine learning technology. Apple has also improved the ability of the AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) headset to switch between the company’s devices, as part of the latest firmware update.

Apple has also made it easier to have a conversation with the AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) in your ears with a new feature called Conversation Awareness. This feature will simultaneously improve the quality of the voices of people speaking with you while reducing background/ ambient disturbances and lowering your own voice. If this works as advertised, it should eliminate the need to manually toggle listening modes on the AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) entirely.

AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) With USB Type-C Port to Launch by Q3 2023: Ming-Chi Kuo

AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) — the company’s successor to the first generation AirPods Pro that were launched in 2019 — could be released as a new model with a USB Type-C port later this year. According to information shared by an industry analyst, the Cupertino company could be working on a new AirPods Pro model that features a USB Type-C charging port, unlike the current model that features the company’s proprietary Lightning port. Apple is also rumoured to launch its next generation of smartphones, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro lineup equipped with USB Type-C ports.

TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has previously leaked details of several Apple products, states that Apple plans to launch a new version of the second-generation AirPods Pro with a USB Type-C port. Kuo was responding via a quote tweet to a tipster who claimed that iOS 16.4 contained references to new AirPods with the model number A3048 and a new AirPods case that bears the model number A2968.

If the analyst’s prediction is accurate, the AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) that were launched in September 2022 alongside the iPhone 14 series of smartphones, could be available in a new model with a USB Type-C port later this year. Kuo states that the new AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) model could enter mass production by the second or third quarter of this year.

This is not the first Apple product to switch the Lightning port in favour of a USB Type-C port — the company has already equipped recent iPad models with support for a modern USB connector, just like the Siri Remote for the Apple TV. According to rumours, the company is also likely to equip its iPhone 15 models with USB Type-C ports when they debut later this year.

The Cupertino company has previously refreshed its first generation AirPods Pro model in the past with a MagSafe compatible charging case, but customers had to purchase a new pair of AirPods Pro — and not just the charging case. There’s no word on whether Apple also plans on updating other accessories, such as the AirPods (3rd Gen) and AirPods Max, with USB Type-C ports.

Apple Launch Event Live Updates: iPhone 14 Lineup, Watch Series 8, AirPods Pro 2 Launch Expected Today

iPhone 14 launch event, dubbed ‘Far Out’, is set to begin at 10:30pm IST tonight. The Cupertino-based company is expected to unveil its next generation of iPhone models — comprising the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Meanwhile, the Apple Watch Series 8 is also expected to launch, and it is also said to include a new Apple Watch Pro model. Apple could also launch the AirPods Pro 2 at the event tonight. The company’s launch event will be livestreamed via YouTube and the Apple website, and you can also watch it in the player embedded at the top of this live blog.

While the iPhone 14 is not expected to come with noteworthy updates to its design, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models are tipped to swap the notch for a new “unified” hole punch and pill cutout. This would be the first major change to the iPhone’s display notch since it was introduced with the iPhone X in 2017.

The company is also expected to discontinue the “mini” model in favour of the iPhone 14 Max (or iPhone 14 Plus, according to recent leaks), which is said to be an iPhone 14 with the same display size as the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple’s previously launched the iPhone SE (2022) in March, equipped with the A15 Bionic chip, which is also expected to power the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max models.

Meanwhile, the Apple Watch Series 8 is likely to feature a similar design as last year’s Series 7 lineup, according to previous reports. However, this year’s models are tipped to feature a new low-power mode, while customers can expect to see a new health monitoring feature in the form of body and skin temperature monitoring.

Apple is also expected to launch a new Apple Watch Pro model, which is said to be a durable, rugged version of its smartwatch for active users, equipped with a titanium body. This model is tipped to feature a larger display than the others along with a new button.

Finally, Apple is also expected to launch a new model of its true wireless earphones, the AirPods Pro 2. Likely to succeed the AirPods Pro that made their debut in October 2019, the new earphones are said to feature a similar design, while offering improved active noise cancellation and audio quality. Previous reports also suggest that the earphones could offer support for MagSafe wireless charging and USB Type-C wired charging.

Like previous Apple events, we’re expecting the Far Out launch event to start with a keynote from Apple CEO Tim Cook. The company is most likely to announce the new iPhone series, followed by details of other new products. You can keep an eye out for the biggest updates on this page, as you watch the event with us via the player embedded above.
