F1 22 Announced, Releasing July 1; to Feature VR Support on PC, Updated Gameplay, More

F1 22 — the official game for the ongoing 2022 FIA Formula One World Championship — will be released on July 1, Electronic Arts announced on Thursday. The successor to F1 2021 will let players race in the latest season with redesigned cars, updated rules, and gameplay options. Gamers will also be able to test out the new Miami International Autodrome. The PC version of the game also comes with VR compatibility, but there’s no word from EA on whether F1 22 will come with PSVR support.

In an announcement posted to the official website on Thursday, EA revealed that F1 22 will be released July 1 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, and on PC via the EA App, Origin, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. Gamers who pre-order the F1 22 Champions Edition will be able to access the game three days earlier — on June 28.

As part of the updated gameplay coming to F1 22, gamers will be able to customise formation laps, safety car periods, and pit stops. This year, EA has also added F1 sprint races. Gamers will have access to the new Miami International Autodrome with 19 corners, along with new cars and a revamped handling model, according to EA.

Unlike previous releases — including F1 2021 — the upcoming F1 22 title will offer VR compatibility for immersive gameplay on PC, via Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. As previously mentioned, EA is yet to reveal whether the game will come with PSVR support. Meanwhile, gamers will also be able to access My Team and Career Mode with two-player split screen and online multiplayer, as well as a new hub called F1 Life, where they can show off supercars, clothing, and accessories unlocked while playing the game.

The game is available to pre-order at Rs. 2,999 for PC, Rs. 4,499 and Rs. 3,999 for PS5 and PS4 on the PlayStation Store, and Rs. 4,999 and Rs. 3,999 for the Xbox Series S/X and Xbox One, respectively. The F1 22 Champions Edition is priced at Rs. 4,299 for PC, Rs. 5,499 on the Xbox Store, and Rs. 5,299 on the PlayStation Store.

Pre-ordering the game before May 16 will also grant gamers access to Miami-themed content including livery, suit, helmet, gloves, a cap, t-shirt and wall art designed by a local artist. Meanwhile, the F1 22 Champions Edition will grant access to the game three days before the release date along with F1 22 New Era content, a F1 Life Starter Pack, new My Team Icons, and 18,000 PitCoin, according to EA.

On PC and consoles, you can get limited-time access to F1 22 with the EA Play subscription that costs Rs. 315 per month in India. Alternatively, you can get full unlimited access to the game on PC with the EA Play Pro subscription that comes in at Rs. 999 per month in India. EA Play also offers early access.

F1 22 — now using the same truncated year-styling like EA’s other annual games, following Codemasters’ acquisition — is out July 1 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. It can be played in VR with Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

OnePlus 10 Specifications Leak Tips 150W Fast Charging, 50-Megapixel Triple Rear Cameras

OnePlus 10 specifications have been leaked. The OnePlus smartphone is expected to be the vanilla model in the OnePlus 10 series, and a successor to last year’s OnePlus 9. It is reported to come equipped with a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, and is said to come with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB storage. As per a tipster, the OnePlus smartphone is being tested with both a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, and a MediaTek Dimensity chipset. It is said to feature 150W fast charging support, and a 50-megapixel primary camera.

OnePlus 10 specifications (rumoured)

The information about the OnePlus 10 specifications comes from tipster OnLeaks aka Steve Hemmerstoffer who collaborated with Digit. The tipster says that the OnePlus 10 will likely run on the “latest version of OxygenOS 12” which will be based on Android 12. It is said to come with a 6.7-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, and LTPO 2.0 technology for variable refresh rate.

OnLeaks says that the rumoured OnePlus 10 has two prototypes. While one is being tested with a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC (likely Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+), the other one is being tested with a MediaTek 9000 chipset. This suggests that the phone is currently in early stages of development, and as per the report, it could make its debut in the second half of 2022. Furthermore, it could be offered with an option to choose from 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB storage.

Recently, tipster Yogesh Brar claimed that the OnePlus 10 will be powered by MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC.

For photography, the OnePlus 10 is claimed to get a triple rear camera setup headlined by a 50-megapixel primary sensor. A 16-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide lens, and a 2-megapixel macro camera will accompany the main shooter, the Digit report says. On the front, the phone could come with a 32-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. The cameras are expected to get Hasselblad colour calibration.

As per leaked information, the OnePlus 10 will pack a 4,800mAh battery with support for 150W fast charging. The phone may also not get the alert slider.

PS5 India April 22 Restock: How to Pre-Order PlayStation 5, PS5 Digital Edition, and PS5 Gran Turismo 7 Bundle

PS5’s April restock is here. Today at 12pm noon, both variants of Sony’s elusive next-gen console — the Rs. 49,990 Blu-ray-equipped PS5, and its Rs. 39,990 disc-less counterpart PS5 Digital Edition — will be up for pre-orders in India. Alongside, some retailers will also offer a Rs. 54,490 bundle of the Blu-ray PS5 and Gran Turismo 7 that represents a Rs. 499 saving if you were to buy them separately. Gran Turismo 7 released at the start of March — to heavy backlash from fans owing to microtransactions and grind-based economy — so Sony India has taken its sweet time in offering this bundle. To me, it looks like a case of Sony trying to offload copies of Gran Turismo 7 that have remained unsold.

If you are trying to buy PlayStation 5 online, you can do that on Amazon, Croma, Flipkart, Game Loot, Games The Shop, Reliance Digital, Sony Center, and Vijay Sales. You can also check out game stores near you. Though as has been the case for over a year now — the PS5 celebrated its first birthday in India earlier in 2022 — the big concern is whether you can actually manage to buy one, given Sony India’s continued inventory struggles.

The April 22 PlayStation 5 restock is just the 15th time Sony’s flagship console is being made available for pre-orders in India, since its launch last February. Its Blu-ray-devoid sibling PS5 Digital Edition has fared even poorly, with this being only the ninth time interested buyers have had the opportunity to pre-order one. Of course, that is far from the only hassle with buying a PlayStation 5 in India. Every single time, the likes of Croma and Games The Shop have shown themselves to be unable to handle the load. Even Amazon has had trouble a few times. Additionally, Croma, Flipkart and Reliance Digital are also known for cancelling PS5 pre-orders due to their own technical challenges.

And while there have been no restrictions on deliveries for a while now, Sony Center website ShopAtSC continues with its COVID-19 boilerplate: “We intend to deliver your allocated stocks around 30th April 2022 and onwards — however please expect a delay in our delivery services which might get impacted due to regulations imposed by lockdown/ curfew in your locations.” Expect the rest of the official PS5 online retailers — Amazon, Croma, Flipkart, GameLoot, Games The Shop, Reliance Digital, and Vijay Sales — to be in line with Sony Center’s estimates. Though at times, we have seen some online retailers ship out their PS5 pre-orders prior to the announced delivery date.

Women Will Hold a Quarter of Leadership Roles at Large Global Tech Firms In 2022: Deloitte Report

More women are getting into leadership roles in the tech industry, which has long been seen as an area dominated by men. The report, prepared by consulting firm Deloitte, said women will hold about one in four leadership roles at large global technology companies this year. That is a jump of 20 percent from 2019 and the momentum is noticeable since the participation of women in the tech industry, especially in leadership roles, has tended to lag behind over the years, it added.

Authored by Susanne Hupfer, Sayantani Mazumder, and Gillian Crossan, the Deloitte report said that the ongoing diversity efforts have created an enabling environment for women to break the industry’s glass ceiling and join the leadership roles in growing numbers. Several large tech companies have committed publicly to improve gender diversity. For instance, the report said, Intel aims to double the number of women and underrepresented minorities in senior leadership roles by 2030.

According to Deloitte’s estimates, women’s share in the overall global tech workforce has increased 6.9 percent between 2019 and 2022, while their share in technical roles has grown by 11.7 percent. Notably, the fastest growth—an estimated gain of nearly 20 percent —has occurred in the proportion of women in leadership.

The report has come as the global tech industry is trying to improve its image of a mostly white male dominated sector. Since tech giants Google, Facebook, and Twitter started publishing their diversity reports over the last decade, progress has been slow. Also, working women have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, having to either scale back on their work commitments or quit their jobs to care for their families.

The authors made several recommendations for tech companies to better their diversification efforts. Those included goal-setting and transparency. They said tech companies must report and track progress to understand what is working for them and what isn’t. This way they can modify and change their approach to improve.

Google to Kill Third-Party Android Call Recording Apps on May 11 by Restricting Accessibility API

Google recently updated its Play Store policy to restrict third-party applications from providing the ability to record calls on recent versions of Android. The Android maker had previously blocked apps from recording calls via the microphone with the launch of Android 10 in September 2019. Google is now cutting off another avenue used by developers — the Accessibility API, from being used for call recording on Android. First party dialler apps and the Google Dialer pre-installed on phones will still be able to record phone calls, depending on the region and manufacturer.

In a post to the Google Play Console support website, the company recently announced it was updating various policies, including the use of the Accessibility API, or application programming interface. Utilised by apps designed to help users with disabilities on Android, the Accessibility API is also used by many popular apps on the Play Store, including ACR Phone and Truecaller, to offer call recording functionality. “The Accessibility API is not designed and cannot be requested for remote call audio recording,” the company explains in the post, a point reiterated in a webinar. The new policy will go into effect on May 11.

The developer of ACR Phone, one of the apps that uses the Accessibility API to provide call recording functionality for calls on Android phones, took to Reddit to explain how the changes would affect third-party call recording apps. With the release of Android 10, Google blocked all applications (including call recording apps) from accessing the device’s microphone to record audio during calls, in order to protect user privacy and to comply with call recording laws across the world. Developers began to request the Accessibility API in order to continue offering call recording functionality on phones running Android 10 or later.

Apps that request the Accessibility API to record calls will have to stop doing so by May 11, according to Google’s updated policy. This means that users who are running on Android 10 or newer versions of Google’s operating system will no longer be able to record apps using third-party apps. However, users on specific devices and in specific regions may be able to record calls using the built-in dialler app. According to a comment from the ACR Phone developer, this is because system apps or Google apps can access the VOICE_CALL audio source on Android phones — this is not accessible to third party apps, according to the developer.

With the May 11 deadline approaching, users may soon have to resort to sideloading, or installing apps from third-party sources, in order to continue recording calls using third-party apps on Android — a risky process that could result in the installation of unvetted or maliciously modified applications downloaded from third-party websites on the Internet. Google is yet to specify whether existing call recording apps who continue to request the Accessibility API will be removed from the Play Store when the new policy goes into effect.

Binance Limits Services In Russia After EU Sanctions

Binance, the largest crypto exchange by trading volumes, said on Thursday it is limiting services for Russian nationals that have crypto assets exceeding EUR 10,000 (roughly Rs. 8,31,500), in light of European Union’s (EU) latest sanctions against Russia.

Earlier this month, the EU in its fifth package of sanctions against Moscow, had targeted crypto wallets, banks, currencies and trusts to close potential loopholes that could allow Russians to move money abroad.

Russian nationals or legal entities in Russia who have crypto account balances that exceed EUR 10,000 will be given 90 days to close their positions, Binance said.

The exchange also said accounts affected by EU’s restrictions will be put into a withdrawal-only mode and no deposits or trading will be permitted.

The announcement comes after Binance said last month cardholders of sanctioned Russian banks would not be able to use them on their platform and confirmed that sanctioned individuals have had their access restricted.

Apple’s Messages Feature That Blurs Nudity for Child Safety Now Rolling Out Globally

Apple is globally releasing a communication safety feature for Messages that is intended to prevent children from viewing or sharing images that contain nudity. This feature has been live in the US since December 2021. It is designed to automatically detect and blur nude images being sent or received by a child. This feature is turned off by default and can be activated at any time by parents on their child’s Apple device. It prompts children to make safe choices and even contact an adult regarding the flagged photo.

After being initially reported by The Guardian that Apple‘s child safety feature is arriving in the UK, AppleInsider also added that the feature is rolling out in Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. The Cupertino company says that the Messages app uses on-device machine learning to scan images for nudity, which also prevents Apple from directly accessing these photos.

Apple communication safety in Messages: How to activate

First, parents have to make sure that their Apple devices are updated to iOS 15.2 or later, iPadOS 15.2 or later, or macOS Monterey 12.1 or later. In addition, they need to register their child’s device with its Apple ID and add it to a Family Sharing group. They can look for the Screen Time settings on their Apple devices and select their child’s device. From there, they have to select Communication Safety and turn on the Check for Sensitive Photos settings. Parents might require the Screen Time passcode for the selected device.

From here on out, the Messages app would automatically blur images that it detects to contain nudity. Children will then be prompted to contact an adult that they can trust. Furthermore, if the child is below the age of 13 years, Messages automatically asks them to get in touch with their parents or guardians.

You can read the official post by Apple on its support page to get more information regarding this feature.
