Dragon Age: Dreadwolf Confirmed as the Next Entry in the Series by BioWare

BioWare has revealed the title for its upcoming addition to the fantasy RPG franchise that began with Dragon Age: Origins back in 2009. The new entry is called Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, deriving its name from the character of Solas who will also serve as the main antagonist for this game. Solas, the Dreadwolf, was introduced as a companion in Dragon Age: Inquisition. He was later revealed to be the overarching villain of the games in the Trespasser DLC for Inquisition.

In its official blog post, BioWare has delved into the mythos of Solas. Hinted to be an ancient elven god in the games, Solas’ betrayal is believed to be the primary reason for the downfall of modern elves. He has earned a reputation as a “trickster deity.” However, the developer suggests that new players will not be required to have played the previous Dragon Age games to enjoy this title. Previously, the developer had released a teaser trailer for the game during the 2020 Game Awards that had hinted at the return of Solas, the Dreadwolf.

A past report had suggested that the Dragon Age 4, now confirmed to be called Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, would be a live service game, which might result in it being an always-online title. However, the abysmal performance of Anthem, another live service game developed by BioWare under EA, might have forced its hand to reevaluate these plans. So far, the developer has kept the details regarding this game under wraps.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will not be out this year, however, Bioware will share more information later in 2022.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5, Watch 5 Pro Names Pop Up in Health App, Said to Include Temperature Sensor

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series has been part of the rumour mill for quite some time now. Ahead of the official announcement, a latest beta version of the Samsung Health app has revealed details about the wearables. The latest development confirms the existence of the Galaxy Watch 5 series and the absence of the Classic branding. It is also likely to come with a temperature sensor, despite previous rumours. The upcoming smartwatch series is expected to be unveiled alongside the foldable smartphones later this year.

References to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro in the latest Samsung Health beta (v6.22.0.069) were spotted by 9to5Google. A screenshot shared by the publication showing list of compatible smartwatches of the health tracking app misses the Classic edition. As per the report, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will have a sportier design similar to the Galaxy Watch 4.

Separately, according to a user report on Reddit, the Samsung Health beta features a toggle for “Skin temperature during sleep”. This could be used for sleep cycle tracking purposes. This is despite previous rumours that Samsung could skip sensors capable of detecting body temperature from the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 range. Noted analyst Ming-chi Kuo also earlier suggested that Samsung might not be able to add a thermometer feature that can be used to track skin temperature, to its upcoming wearables.

Recent leaks have implied that the rotating bezel, which is useful in controlling apps and menus is going to be dropped from the upcoming wearables. These circular and rotating bezels were available on the Classic models of the Galaxy Watch 4.

Samsung is yet to announce the details regarding the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series. It is expected to be unveiled either in August or September along with Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4.

Neuroscientists Unravel Link Between Individual Differences in Brain Anatomy and ASD Symptoms

Making use of artificial intelligence, a team of scientists from the Boston College have shed light on the differences in the behaviour of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and its link with neuroanatomy. Autism or ASD is a complicated condition that is characterised by difficulties with communication and behaviour including problems with social interaction, and restricted and repetitive patterns in interests and activities. The condition affects people differently, both in terms of neuroanatomy and symptoms. Studies have earlier suggested that there might be no single set of neuroanatomical correlation that is common in all autistic people.

Explaining the findings of the new report published in the journal Science, co-author of the study and a Boston College post-doctoral researcher, Aidas Aglinskas said, “We found that different people with ASD can have different brain areas affected, and thanks to the AI-simulated brains, we were able to identify which specific brain regions vary among ASD individuals.”

Aglinskas added that they separated ASD-related variation from the unrelated variation that helped unravel links between individual differences in brain anatomy and symptoms. The team of scientists has studied magnetic resonance imaging data of over 1,000 people with autism using artificial intelligence (AI). They, then, compared the images to AI-generated simulations that showed how the brains would look if they had not been affected by ASD.

According to Aglinskas, ASD-specific neural alterations in the brain are hard to identify. He added that brains are different due to many factors including genetic variations, and not due to ASD. However, AI helped the team tackle this problem and identify neural pathways specifically affected by ASD.

The neuroscientists explored the links between ASD-specific features of brain anatomy and the symptoms. Aglinskas has highlighted that despite observing MRI data from 1103 participants, they could not group individuals into categorical subtypes. But, he also stressed the possibility of finding subtypes with other kinds of brain measurement like functional imaging.

Now, according to Boston College Assistant Professor of Neuroscience, Stefano Anzellotti, the team is aiming at using AI tools to expand the research beyond brain structure and better understand ASD diagnosis.

Scientists Develop New Compound That May Help Fight Elusive Cancer Types

Marking a significant breakthrough in the research for cancer treatments, scientists have developed a compound that can kill some hard-to-treat cancer types. The findings are part of a new study published recently in the Nature Science. The new compound targets the vulnerability that wasn’t explored by researchers before. According to study leader and professor of obstetrics and gynecology at UT Health Centre at San Antonio, Ratna Vadlamudi, PhD, the scientists identified a critical vulnerability in multiple cancers and validated the findings in multiple cancer cell types and animal models.

The professor added that the compound was found to have worked on a range of cell lines and xenografts, which shows it is “targeting a fundamental vulnerability in cancer cells.” Vadlamudi and his colleagues had discovered) a compound called ERX-11 while working at the Ratna Vadlamudi Lab, University of Texas Health Centre at San Antonio in 2017. The lab is geared up towards developing small-molecule inhibitors for therapy-resistant cancers by studying ovarian and breast cancers.

The ERX-11 compound targets the estrogen receptor (ER), which is the leading cause behind most of the breast cancers. After the compound was identified, scientists scanned through a screen of chemical analogs of ERX-11 and observed that another compound named ERX-41 was effective in killing ER-positive cancers in petri dishes. It was also found that the compound managed to eliminate triple-negative breast cancers (TNBCs). The finding was significant as there is a lack of targeted treatments for TNBC due to the absence of progesterone, estrogen, and human epidermal growth factor 2 in it.

Casting the net wider, scientists, using mouse models, highlighted that ERX-41 also showed activity against a large number of human tumours. It was learned that the compound effectively shrunk the tumours in mouse models without resulting in toxicity in the animals or affecting normal breast cells.

In addition, ERX-41 proved to be working against other cancer types with elevated endoplasmic reticulum stress. These include cancers that don’t have many effective treatments for them like ovarian cancers, glioblastoma, and pancreatic cancers.

Scientists hope that the findings would help in development of new drugs bolstering the fight against some cancers.

Climate Crisis: Fossil Fuel Plants That Power BTC Mining to Lose Permits in New York State

The New York State government in the US is going bullish on promoting green crypto mining. The State Senate has reportedly passed a bill, that could restrict operational permits for fossil fuel plants that power Bitcoin mining. If Governor Kathy Hochul signs this bill, it would also lead to a two-year temporary ban on those crypto miners who are gobbling up the power supply indulging in Bitcoin’s Proof-of-Work (PoW) mining, infamous for its carbon emission and power consumption issues.

The bill now awaits approval from Hochul, clearance status of which is expected to come later in the month.

For now, Hochul’s stance on the bill remains dicy. As per New York Times, she recently received $40,000 (roughly Rs. 31 lakh) from a crypto mining facility.

The bill came into formation after the activity of Bitcoin mining escalated in the New York State, raising environmental concerns.

In order to mine, or generate a cryptocurrency, complex algorithms need to be solved on advanced computers.

These machines need to be plugged-in at all times, due to which they gobble up loads of power causing electricity disruption in areas around.

About 60 percent of Bitcoin-mining activity is powered by fossil fuels.

The global Bitcoin mining network emitted 42 megatons (Mt) of CO2 in 2021, a report by CoinShares had claimed in February.

As of July 2021, 35.4 percent of Bitcoin miners were operating out of the US, the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance had claimed last year. That’s a 428 percent increase from September 2020, making US the biggest home for crypto miners.

Infact, the states of New York, Texas, Georgia, and Kentucky have emerged as popular hosts of crypto miners, CNBC had reported in 2021, citing data from Foundry USA.

Meanwhile, New York State’s bill further urges the state authorities to create an “environmental impact statement”, after analysing all PoW mining facilities in the region.

The bill, proposed by Democrat Anna Kelles, has been granted preliminary approvals despite crypto-supporting officials issuing warnings that such a rule could push away crypto miners away from the New York State, leaving several people who work in crypto mining hubs, jobless.

Five Planets to Line Up in Sky This Month in Rare Conjunction, Will Be Visible With Naked Eyes: How to Watch

There’s a treat lined up for skywatchers this June as they will be able to watch five planets, visible with naked eyes, arranged in their natural order from the Sun – from left to right as you scan the horizon. These five planets are Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. The spectacular celestial show will be visible towards the eastern horizon just before the Sun rises and obscures the view. Those living in the Northern Hemisphere will have to look towards the east and the south. Those in the Southern Hemisphere should look towards the east and the north for the delightful view.

Seeing two or three planets close together in a conjunction is a rather common occurrence. However, it is extremely to observe a conjunction of five planets. The last time when the five naked-eye planets were lined up together was in December 2004. However, this sequence will place Mercury and Saturn much closer to each other.

While this arrangement should be visible throughout this month, some dates are particularly important, according to Sky & Telescope.

June 3 – 4: On these two mornings, the separation between Mercury and Saturn will be at its smallest: only 91 degrees. Skygazers will have less than half an hour – from Mercury first appearing above the horizon to essentially getting lost in the glare of the rising Sun.

June 24: The planetary lineup this morning is set to be even more compelling. Skygazers will have an hour to enjoy this parade. Though the separation of Mercury and Saturn will increase to 107 degrees, the real spectacle would be the waning crescent Moon between Venus and Mars, serving as a proxy for Earth.

Astronomers have said that there should be plenty of opportunities for everyone to see the five planets even if it’s cloudy in their regions on some days of the month. So, make sure to wake up early and head towards a location from where you have an unhindered view of the horizon.

Google Pay Hinglish Support Rolled Out on iOS and Android

Google Pay has added support for Hinglish — a hybrid mix of Hindi and English — as one of the officially supported languages on the app. The company’s payments app, which is based on the National Payments Corporation of India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) now supports nine languages. It is the first Google app to add support for the hybrid language. Users who have updated to the latest version of Google Pay on Android and iOS can set their language to Hinglish.

The addition of Hinglish as one of the officially supported languages on Google Pay was spotted by OnlyTech. Users who have updated to the latest version of Google Pay on Android and iOS should be able to select Hinglish instead of English or Hindi, based on their preference. Gadgets 360 was able to confirm the presence of Hinglish as an option on Google Pay on both Android and iOS.

How to change your Google Pay language to Hinglish:

  1. Update Google Pay to the latest version via the Google Play store or App Store.
  2. Tap your profile photo at the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Select Settings > Personal info
  4. Tap on the Language option.
  5. Select Hinglish, the third option in the list.

Upon selecting Hinglish in Google Pay, various parts of the interface will now sport hybrid translations of common terms. “Scan any QR code” reads “Koi bhi QR scan karein”, while “Show transaction history” is displayed as “Transaction history dekhein”. Meanwhile, the New payment button now says Naya payment in Hinglish.

The addition of Hinglish was first announced by the company in November last year at its Google for India 2021 event. At the time, Google had revealed it would allow users to access Google Pay in a conversational hybrid of Hindi and English that uses Hindi words with English script. The company had said Hinglish would be available to users in India starting in early 2022, and would benefit 350 million users who have set it as their default language.

Google Pay for Android and iOS now supports nine languages — Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Hinglish, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu. While Google Pay is the first app to support the hybrid language, it opens the door for support to be added to more Google apps in the future.
