OTT Releases This Week: Loki Season 2, Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse, OMG 2, and More

We’re just a week into October, and our binge list is filled to the brim with new content. No one likes wasting time scrolling through OTT apps for hours, and therefore, we’re returned with an updated list of films and shows that’ll keep you entertained this weekend. Loki season 2 leads the pack of new releases this week, as we follow the God of Mischief’s time-hopping adventures and his encounter with alternate versions of beloved characters. In a similar multiversal vein, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is finally available to stream on Netflix, tasking a young Miles Morales with solving a major conspiracy involving countless Spider-People.

It’s going to be a busy weekend, as Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 also debuts Sunday, October 8, on Netflix — less than two months since its theatrical release. Oh, and let’s not ignore its box office competitor Gadar 2, starring Sunny Deol in the lead, which drops today on Zee5. With that, here’s a guide on what to stream this weekend:

Khufiya

When: Now streaming
Where: Netflix

Hardened R&AW operative Krishna Mehra (Tabu) is tasked with tracking down a mole within the organisation — one whose actions have led to an undercover spy’s death. Ali Fazal plays the suspect in question, often seen photocopying documents from his workplace and taking them back home, presumably to feed India’s defence secrets to enemy nations. Through 24/7 surveillance and bugs placed in his home, Agent KM and team relentlessly pursue him — across countries — all the while ensuring his innocent wife (Wamiqa Gabbi) and child remain safe. Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, Khufiya also stars Ashish Vidyarthi (Kuttey).

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

When: Now streaming
Where: Netflix

A fledgling Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) is catapulted into the multiverse and trapped among an elite army of Spider-People in the hopes of saving its very existence. Joined by Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) and the rebellious Spider-Punk (Daniel Kaluuya), he encounters the leader Miguel O’Hara/ Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac), a traumatised, driven, and almost vampiric leader of the Spider society, who believes the ends justify the means — no matter how severe. But when a choice is offered to prioritise the safety of every multiversal world over one person, Miles rejects it, spawning a wild goose chase where he must fight off and escape all kinds of Spider-Men.

Bear in mind that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is only part 1 of a two-part story, and it also brings in a clumsy new villain, The Spot (Jason Schwartzman). The animated film is also available to buy as VOD across multiple platforms.

Loki season 2

When: October 6 (Now streaming)
Where: Disney+ Hotstar

Lost and confused in an alternate timeline where no TVA members recognise him, the God of Mischief Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is forced to navigate uncharted timelines with a new Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson). His goal is to be reunited with his original team, but his body won’t let him do so by randomly distorting and plopping him into past and future timelines. Things are getting wild and even the TVA archivist OB (Ke Huy Quan) has no solutions to the time slipping. What he does have, however, is some specialised equipment that’s meant to help out our heroes — presumably, with multiversal travel. In Loki season 2, Sylvie is now a McDonald’s employee, Hunter B-15 is a doctor, and Kang the Conqueror appears to be a stage magician?

OMG 2

When: October 8
Where: Netflix

Following a scandal involving his son, Kanti Sharan Mudgal (Pankaj Tripathi), a concerned citizen and strong devotee of Lord Shiva, requests the court to mandate sex education in his school’s courses, spawning an amusing courtroom drama. But his journey there was filled with tragedy, ranging from judgemental jeers from the neighbourhood to his son’s attempted suicide — all of which are subtly prevented by a mysterious messenger (Akshay Kumar) sent by the three-eyed god himself. Amit Rai (Road to Sangam) directs OMG 2, which also stars Yami Gautam as an opposing lawyer.

Choona

When: Now streaming
Where: Netflix

Jimmy Sheirgill stars in this heist comedy series as a corrupt politician obsessed with astrology, planning to overthrow the government. Unfortunately, he’s got a quirk — his day-to-day activities are carefully planned based on whether the stars and planets align in his favour. In his meteoric rise to the top, he’s created a bunch of enemies, all of whom thirst for revenge and conjure a strategy to steal Rs. 600 crore from under the politician’s nose. The location is a little tricky though: a heavily fortified party office teeming with 10 armed police officers, over 100 goons, and CCTV cameras at every corner. The team in Choona includes a rebel (Aashim Gulati), a shape-shifting informer (Namit Das), a mute man (Chandan Roy), an astrologer (Atul Srivastava), and a demoted police officer (Gyanendra Tripathi).

Gadar 2

When: October 6 (Now streaming)
Where: Zee5

When Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) goes missing during a skirmish in Pakistan and is believed to be captured, his now fully-grown son Jeete sets out to rescue him, entering uncharted territories from which they both must escape. Ameesha Patel reprises her role as Tara’s wife Sakeena Ali Singh, who’s now in shambles upon hearing about her husband’s disappearance, constantly reciting prayers for his and Jeet’s safety. An interesting thing to note here is that the child actor who played Charanjeet in the original 2001 film is the same person playing the adult version in Gadar 2.

Mumbai Diaries season 2

When: October 6 (Now streaming)
Where: Amazon Prime Video

Dr. Kaushik Oberoi (Mohit Raina) and his team of medics are served with a new set of challenges when a series of torrential rainfalls threaten to submerge Mumbai. The medical thriller continues to focus on the resilience of the crisis doctors, despite limited resources, lack of sleep, and fighting personal battles — some of which is remnant trauma from dealing with the 26/11 attacks. Much of the original cast returns in Mumbai Diaries season 2, including Konkana Sen Sharma, Tina Desai, and Natasha Bharadwaj.

CoinDCX’s Okto Self Custody Wallet Expands Internationally: Details

CoinDCX has announced that it is expanding its self-custody wallet service named Okto outside of India to other international locations. To do so, the Indian crypto exchange has stitched its operations with Transak, which is a developer integration toolkit to let users buy/sell crypto in any app, website or web plugin. As per the exchange, the Okto digital wallet will now work across 60 countries and 155 jurisdictions. Digital wallet services that allow people to store their private keys with themselves are classified as self-custody wallets.

Okto was launched in 2022 and was later integrated with the Transak platform earlier this month. The company did the wallet’s integration with Transak aiming to scale the wallet’s functionality to operate smoothly in other nations.

“The vision is to offer easier access to a wide range of tokens across multiple chains, enabling users to trade seamlessly, pay gas fees in any token, and enjoy convenient and efficient transactions through a single wallet. Integrating Transak into Okto will bring seamless fiat-to-crypto conversions right within the app,” explained Neeraj Khandelwal, Co-founder, Okto and CoinDCX while commenting on the development.

Back in May this year, CoinDCX claimed that Okto has been integrated with an advanced cognitive AI technology, making it the first ever self-custody wallet infused with AI. In addition, the wallet also got the machine learning (ML) capability to analyse and monitor patterns in usual and unusual crypto transactions.

At the time, Vivek Gupta, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of CoinDCX said this update to Okto will provide an ‘unparalleled protection’ against phishing scams, account takeovers, and malware attacks.

This new development, meanwhile, has opened the Okto wallet service in countries within Europe, North America, USA, Asia, South America, and Africa. As of October 2023, Okto’s userbase has amassed over 150,000, the company claimed.

The frenzy around self-custodial crypto wallets rose in 2022, when wallet providers and exchanges like FTX collapsed, putting people’s finances at risk. Crypto industry leaders like Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao and Michael Saylor have also previously hailed self-custodial wallets for storing valuable digital assets.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Series Tipped to Feature Titanium Frame Across All Models

Samsung Galaxy S24 series — comprising the purported Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra — could feature a new material instead of aluminium, a tipster has claimed on X (formerly known as Twitter). Apple recently unveiled the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, its flagship smartphones for 2023, that adopted titanium edges instead of the stainless steel frame found on their predecessors. While Samsung is yet to reveal plans to launch the Galaxy S24 series, the inclusion of titanium could drive up the price of the upcoming handsets.

According to tipster Revegnus (X: @Tech_Reve), Samsung is looking to manufacture titanium frames for the standard Galaxy S24 model on its domestic production line in Vietnam. For the Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra models, the South Korean tech conglomerate is said to rely on two unnamed partner companies for titanium frames.

While Revegnus has had a fairly good track record of leaking smartphone specifications, tipster Ice Universe (X: @UniverseIce) responded to the tipster and claimed that only the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra would be equipped with a titanium frame.

Last month, Apple unveiled the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, its flagship smartphones for 2023 with a new 3nm A17 Pro chip, an Action button that replaces the mute switch, and a titanium frame. In order to keep both prices and thermal levels in check, the company has used a combination of titanium on the external frame and aluminium for the internal structure.

Recently, another tipster leaked computer-aided design (CAD) renders of the purported Galaxy S24 Ultra. The leaked images suggest that the handset will bear a similar resemblance to its predecessor, the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It is shown to feature a quad rear camera setup and support for Samsung’s S Pen.

According to previous reports, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra is said to feature a 6.8-inch AMOLED display. The phone is said to run on Qualcomm’s yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip in most markets, while the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ are tipped to debut with the company’s Exynos 2400 SoC in some regions, and support charging at up to up to 45W.

New Apple iPad, iPad Mini and iPad Air Models on Track to Launch in the Coming Months: All Details

Apple, off late, has been a bit slow when it comes to new iPad launches. Its last iPad launch took place in October last year when it released its new iPad Pro variants powered by its then-new M2 processor and a new 10th Gen iPad with a new design and a new keyboard accessory. While we have been hearing rumours about some new and interesting iPad models, there is finally some news which sort of confirms that they are indeed being tested and should be launching soon.

9to5mac as per its sources claims that everything is on track and that Apple will be announcing some new iPad models soon. This would include a new iPad Mini (or Mini 7), which will replace the currently available iPad Mini 2021. As per the source, it will retain the design of the older model and only offer a spec upgrade. However, when Apple plans to release this one, it is strangely still a tough question to answer. The last Mini (review) was released in September 2021 and got an upgraded design with thinner bezels, the A15 Bionic chip, 5G connectivity and more.

Next in line is the new 11th Gen iPad which is expected to replace the 10th iPad (review) launched last year. What also isn’t clear is whether Apple will continue to retain the much more affordable 9th-Gen iPad after this launch. According to the source, Apple will again be expected to retain the same design as on the previous model and will only go for a spec bump on this one.

Coming to the models that are expected to get notable upgrades are the iPad Air and the new M3-powered iPad Pro. According to the source, Apple is reportedly experimenting with two versions of the iPad Air one of which could be a larger 12.9-inch model of the same. This is still under testing, so there’s a good chance that this second version may not be announced altogether, as the base model will still get an upgraded processor. Apple is also testing two variants (11-inch and 12.9-inch) of the new iPad Pro with an M3 processor inside.

9to5Mac’s report also corroborates Bloomberg’s previous report about a new Magic Keyboard for the iPad. It will evolve from a soft keyboard to a regular one made of aluminium and will snap onto the new iPad Pro models. The new keyboard will also come with a larger trackpad, new sensors (which also include an accelerometer) and will make the tablet appear like one of Apple’s MacBooks.

Cyberpunk 2077 Live-Action Adaptation in the Works, CD Projekt Red Confirmed

Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a live-action adaptation, developer CD Projekt Red has announced. The project is being developed in collaboration with Anonymous Content, the independent media company best known for producing Emmy-winning shows like True Detective and Mr. Robot. It’s unclear if this take will be a feature-length film or a TV series, but the hunt for a screenwriter has commenced, with plans to tell a brand-new story set in the futuristic neon-lit world, where sex, body modifications, and political chatter are commonplace. The developer also stressed that the adaptation is at an ‘early developmental stage,’ so it’ll be a while before we receive any further updates.

CD Projekt Red previously dabbled in such passive media by simply using the setting to chart an underdog tale via the Netflix anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which gained critical acclaim and gave the once-tarnished video game a new lease on life. Cyberpunk 2077 suffered a rocky launch period, plagued with game-breaking bugs and crashes, to the point where Sony delisted it from the PS4 digital storefronts. The title has since seen several improvements, thanks to the countless hotfixes and patches, alongside fresh content. An update 2.0 dropped last month, which overhauled the perk system and limited tech augmentations. That was followed by the Phantom Liberty expansion, that put players on a high-stakes espionage mission with a secret agent played by Idris Elba. Keanu Reeves was another contributor to its Hollywood star-power in the main game.

For the live-action adaptation, CD Projekt Red is working directly with Anonymous Content’s Head of Television Garret Kemble, Director of Development Ryan Schwartz, and CCO David Levine. The last of them was involved in producing West World, the aforementioned True Detective, and even a few early Game of Thrones seasons. The studio, as a whole, has some impressive projects under its belt, with two Academy Award-winning films: The Revenant and Spotlight. It’s not like CD Projekt Red is a stranger to live-action adaptations either, since the Henry Cavill-led The Witcher series instantly soared to popularity, and has now been renewed for a fourth season — albeit, with Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games movies) taking over.

CDPR dropped a ton of updates at its Investor Day presentation, held late Thursday, confirming that Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 25 million copies worldwide. Meanwhile, its Phantom Liberty expansion, which has only been out for 10 days, has already sold 3 million copies. Furthermore, the company CEO Adam Kiciński revealed his plans to step down from the position, as part of a managemental shake-up. He will instead serve in a more supervisory role, starting January 1, 2024, as Chief Strategy Officer, leaving the CEO position vacant for Adam Badowski and Michał Nowakowski to jointly take over.

Cyberpunk 2077 and its Phantom Liberty expansion are out now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.

Crypto Price Today: Bitcoin, Ether Step Out of Profit Zone Again, Majority Altcoins Reflect Losses

Bitcoin recorded a loss of 0.53 percent on Friday, October 6, to trade at the price point of $27,553 (roughly Rs. 22.9 lakhs). Over the last day, the value of BTC has recorded a deduction of $127 (roughly Rs. 10,566). This drop in BTC price, as well as a visible slowdown in trading crypto activities, could be because of the upcoming announcements of the US Nonfarm Payrolls (monthly) and US Unemployment Rate (monthly) later today. It is, however, notable that despite the market volatility being high, BTC has managed to maintain its price within the range of $27,000 (roughly Rs. 22.4 lakh).

Ether saw even bigger losses than Bitcoin on Friday. The asset is trading at $1,622 (roughly Rs. 1.34 lakh) after incurring a loss of 1.32 percent. Ether’s price declined by $21 (roughly Rs. 1,747) in the last 24 hours.

“The market initially embraced optimism due to this surge, bearish remarks from the US Federal Reserve, lacklustre trading volumes for ETH futures, and delays in Bitcoin ETFs have contributed to a slowdown in trend. Currently, BTC appears likely to enter a period of sideways trading. Neither the bulls nor the bears have taken control, with immediate resistance at $27,850 (roughly Rs. 23 lakh) and support at $27,400 (roughly Rs. 22.7 lakh),” Edul Patel, Co-Founder and CEO Mudrex told Gadgets 360.

Binance Coin, Ripple, Solana, Dogecoin, Tron, Polygon, and Polkadot reflected small losses alongside BTC and ETH.

Small price dips also hit Shiba Inu, Chainlink, Stellar, Monero, Cosmos, Binance USD, and Cronos among others.

“In the last 24 hours, the crypto market has traded sideways with slight selling pressure. Most of the top ten cryptos by market cap seem to be trading slightly in the reds. Seeing BTC’s price action, the market is beginning to establish a bullish pattern. However, owing to the absence of new capital flowing into the markets, such rallies will be short-lived,” Parth Chaturvedi, Investments Lead, CoinSwitch Ventures told Gadgets 360, commenting on the market situation.

The overall crypto market cap tumbled by 0.50 percent in the last 24 hours to be at $1.08 trillion (roughly Rs. 89,85,416 crore), showed CoinMarketCap.

The crypto fear and greed index is up two points since yesterday and currently stands at the middle of the scale with a score of 50/100.

Among profit making cryptocurrencies, Cardano, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Avalanche, Leo, Uniswap, and Zcash marked their names on Friday.

“Despite the stability in BTC’s price, the US dollar displayed significant volatility, but BTC remained resilient against sudden movements in the Dollar Index (DXY). Notably, according to Santiment, whales have accumulated the highest amount of BTC in 2023. This surge in whale accumulation is largely attributed to the influx of requests made to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the approval of a Bitcoin Spot ETF,” the CoinDCX research team told Gadgets 360.
