Nothing Phone 2a With Skimmed Down Hardware Said to Be in Development; Design Surfaces Online

Nothing, the Carl Pei-led company behind the Phone 2, is reportedly working on a new handset. The company recently made headlines because of the rise in security concerns surrounding its Nothing Chats messaging service. The UK-based OEM has not officially teased or confirmed a third smartphone but a new leak hints the purported moniker and design of the phone. Notably, the Nothing Phone 2 was launched in India on July 11 this year with a 4nm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and a 4,700mAh battery with 45W PPS wired fast charging support. The phone succeeded Nothing’s first-ever handset, the Phone 1, which was launched in July 2022.

Tipster Sanju Choudhary (@saaaanjjjuuu) shared in a post on X, that Nothing is working on a new smartphone. As per its product cycle, it could be speculated to be the Nothing Phone 3 but the tipster insists that this model is rather the Nothing Phone 2a, which seems to carry the model number AIN142. The post also comes with a leaked design render of this purported handset.

The image of the alleged Nothing Phone 2a shared by the tipster gives a partial look at the back panel of the handset. It is seen with a dual rear camera unit, Nothing’s distinctive Glyph Interface, and a transparent rear cover like all Nothing smartphones.

As per the tipster, the Nothing Phone 2a is likely to come with a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a centre-aligned hole-punch slot at the top to house the front camera sensor. Nothing more is known about the phone or its launch. It is likely that we find out soon if the handset is indeed in the making.

The last smartphone launched by Nothing was the Phone 2, which is available for purchase in two colour options – Dark Grey and White. The price of the model starts in India from Rs. 39,999 for its 8GB + 128GB variant, while the 12GB + 256GB and 12GB + 512GB variants are listed at Rs. 44,999 and Rs. 49,999, respectively.

Amazon Q Chatbot Announced for AWS Customers; Comes Loaded With Generative AI Features

Amazon has hopped aboard the generative AI hype, that boomed exponentially after the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT last year. During Amazon’s re:Invent conference in Las Vegas, it officially lifted the curtains off ‘Q’, a generative AI-enabled chatbot designed for the customers of Amazon Web Services (AWS), most of which are businesses. Through this new AI assistant, Amazon will respond to real-time inquiries, help businesses create content, and process tasks as directed.

Amazon is aiming to improve its customer needs through Q. Company agents will be able to provide real-time responses to queries raised by AWS customers, making communication between the two parties prompt and in real-time.

The chatbot will also be able to identify crucial parts of customers’ calls with company agents using AI, draft professional emails, brainstorm ideas, summarise reports, explain concepts, and write articles for businesses.

“Amazon Q provides immediate, relevant information and advice to employees to streamline tasks, accelerate decision-making and problem-solving, and help spark creativity and innovation at work,” Amazon Web Services wrote in a blog post, explaining the purpose of Q.

To get access to customised features, pricing, and options for Q, AWS users will be offered two or more plans to choose from. The costs of these plans reportedly range between $20 (roughly Rs. 1,666) and $25 (roughly Rs. 2,083).

“Amazon Q can adapt its interactions to each individual user based on the existing identities, roles, and permissions of your business. It searches the documents in connected data sources and creates a relevant and detailed suggestion for a social media post. Amazon Q also tells which document was used to generate the answer,” the blog explained.

The platform is expected to be of essential assistance to software developers, IT professionals, business analysts, and content writers. For now, Amazon Q is available for preview in AWS Regions US East (N. Virginia) and US West (Oregon). The company did not provide a timeline about its expansion to other parts of the world.

Generative AI, as a technology, lets people ask for information or generate content on a big array of topics. ChatGPT and Google’s Bard are among the popular generative AI platforms that have taken the Internet by storm.

Hardware giants like OnePlus, Samsung, MediaTek are also tweaking their products with assistance to incorporate generative AI platforms and services.

Vivo S18, Vivo S18 Pro Launch Confirmed; Key Specifications Leaked Online

Vivo S18 series is expected to launch soon as a successor to the Vivo S17 lineup, which was launched in China in May this year. The company has now officially teased the launch of the Vivo S18 series. It is confirmed to come with Vivo’s Blue Heart AI assistant. While the company has not revealed too many details about the upcoming phones, several leaks have suggested their key specifications. A schematic design render of the Vivo S18 lineup has also surfaced online.

In a Weibo post, Vivo confirmed that the Vivo S18 series will launch soon with its in-house Blue Heart AI assistant. The poster shared by the company shows the side profile of the Vivo S18, which confirms a slightly raised camera module at the back.

Although an exact date for the launch has not been announced, a tip by Weibo user Why Lab suggests that the Vivo S18 series will carry the thinnest 5000mAh battery-backed handset in 2023, which implies that the lineup will be unveiled in December this year. Another post from the same user claims that aside from the 5,000mAh battery, the base model will carry a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC and have a panel equipped with a peak brightness level of 2,800 nits.

The Vivo S18 Pro, on the other hand, is expected to get a MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ chipset and a 50-megapixel Sony IMX920 sensor. The high-end model is also said to focus “on thin and light portrait selfies” (translated from Chinese), which could hint at an upgraded front camera sensor. It is also expected to pack a similar battery. Both phones are also expected to support 80W wired fast charging support. They are said to come with AMOLED displays and offer Wi-Fi 7 connectivity.

Finally, tipster Digital Chat Station added that the Vivo S18 models will also come with a 50-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens and another telephoto lens. A schematic design render shared by the tipster also shows two separate rectangular cutouts with rounded edges arranged vertically on the top left corner of the back panel of a Vivo S18 model.

Samsung Refutes Tipster’s Claim That It Will Rebrand Exynos Chips: Report

Samsung’s semiconductor arm has reportedly refuted a claim made by a tipster on X (formerly known as Twitter) that the company was planning on rebranding its Exynos chips. The South Korean technology conglomerate has also clarified that the company does not plan to rename the chips used on many models in its smartphone lineup and that all rebranding related rumours are false. Samsung’s Exynos mobile processors compete with MediaTek and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips — these are also used to power some of Samsung’s handsets.

On Tuesday, tipster @oreXda posted on X that Samsung was planning on rebranding its Exynos mobile chips to “Dream Chip” or “Dream”. However, the company rubbished the claim in a statement to Android Authority. “The rumour on rebranding is not true. For your reference, the mentioned brand name [Dream – ed] is simply an internal project name,” Samsung told the publication.

The company further confirmed that all rumours related to the company’s plans to rebrand the Exynos family of mobile processors “are not true,” in response to another query sent by the website. Samsung has used Exynos chips on its smartphones for over a decade and it appears unlikely that the name of its mobile processors will be changed in the future.

While Samsung’s flagship Exynos chips do compete with offerings from MediaTek and Qualcomm, the performance of its mobile processors has somewhat trailed the other chipmakers. While customers have complained about battery endurance issues and thermal throttling on high-end phones with Exynos chips, the company is tipped to equip its upcoming flagship smartphones with its in-house processors.

According to recent reports, the phone maker is expected to equip some models in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 series of phones with Exynos 2400 chips. Unlike last year, when Samsung equipped all Galaxy S23 models with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chip, it appears that only the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be equipped with a Snapdragon chip in all markets.

Meanwhile the other models will get Exynos 2400 chips — the only exceptions are China and the US where all three models in the series are tipped to be powered by Snapdragon chips. A recent statement by Qualcomm CEO Christian Amon suggests that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 won’t be the only chip that powers the upcoming Galaxy S24 series.

Poco X6 Pro 5G Spotted on NBTC Website, May Debut as Rebranded Version of Redmi K70E

Poco X6 Pro 5G appears to be the next entrant in the brand’s X series as the phone has been spotted on Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) website. The Poco phone is seen with model number 2311DRK48G on the listing. The Poco X6 Pro 5G is expected to debut as a global variant of the Redmi K70E. It is expected to succeed last year’s Poco X5 Pro. As of now, the Xiaomi sub-brand has not shared any information on the existence of the Poco X6 Pro 5G.

The Poco X6 Pro 5G is listed on the NBTC website with model number 2311DRK48G. The listing shows that the smartphone has support for GSM, WCDMA LTE, and NR networks. This indicates 5G connectivity on the upcoming phone. The NBTC listing also hints that the handset is manufactured in China.

Gadgets 360 has independently verified the NBTC listing, which was first spotted by The TechOutlook. The NBTC listing and model number hint that the Poco X6 Pro 5G could be a rebadged version of the Redmi K70E, which is scheduled to debut later today (November 29) in China. The Poco handset was recently spotted on the BIS and IMEI websites with model number 23122PCD1I.

The Redmi K70E is confirmed to ship with the MediaTek Dimensity 8300-Ultra SoC. It is teased to feature a 1.5K display with a peak brightness of 1,800 nits and a high-frequency PWM dimming rate of 1,920Hz. It will run on Xiaomi HyperOS and house a 5,500mAh battery with 90W fast charging support. The Poco X6 Pro 5G is expected to include all these features if the handset is indeed a rebranded version of Redmi K70E.

However, Poco has not shared any information on the Poco X6 Pro 5G but all these certifications suggest that the company may be planning on launching the phone soon in the Indian market.

To recall, the Poco X5 Pro 5G was launched in India in February with a starting price tag of Rs. 22,999 for the base 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant.

Magic Eden Launches Crypto Wallet with Cross-Chain Workability: Details

Magic Eden, which is an online marketplace for NFT sales, is adding more functionalities and capabilities to its platform to attempt to revive people’s interest in digital collectibles after a visible sector slowdown. The platform has now decided to launch a crypto wallet browser extension, that will be compatible with multiple blockchains. The aim of creating this multi-chain wallet is to provide a single storage solution for people to store their cryptocurrencies as well as purchased NFTs.

Presently in its closed beta state, Magic Eden’s wallet will support storage of NFTs based on Bitcoin, Solana, Ethereum, and Polygon.

As per Jack Lu, the CEO and Co-Founder of Magic Eden, people had to make four different wallets compatible with four different blockchain to be able to save their NFTs. This eventually led to people walking away from engaging with NFT and reportedly led to Magic Eden’s decision to launch a wallet service that would be compatible with multiple blockchains.

The wallet will facilitate instant transfer of cryptocurrencies between blockchains and easily collect any NFT on Solana, Ethereum, Polygon, or Bitcoin Ordinals. The service will also provide a direct integration with Magic Eden’s NFT platform for better management of digital collectibles, said an explanation blog about the service.

Magic Eden published an official update about this upcoming service on X as well.

Presently, the self-custodial wallet service is only available to a few numbers of testers. The development comes at a time when the sales of NFTs dropped significantly in these last few years.

NFTs peaked in September 2021 when sales of these digital collectibles managed to amass around $881 million (roughly Rs. 7,344 crore). However, ass of November this year, NFT sales only managed to bring-in $10.85 million (roughly Rs. 90 crore).

Earlier in September, a report had claimed that among the top 8,850 NFT collections by market cap, 18 percent were worthless, and 41 percent saw their prices drop to around $5 (roughly Rs. 415) to $10 (roughly Rs. 835).

In fact, Magic Eden itself has faced the brunt of the slowdown of the NFT market. In February this year, the platform had announced layoffs from its team.

Foxconn to Invest Over $1.5 Billion in India; Sent Chinese Engineers to Train Workers This Year: Reports

Apple supplier Foxconn will invest over $1.5 billion (roughly Rs. 12,500 crore) in India as the company looks to expand production of Apple’s iPhone in the country, according to a report. The move comes a year after the Taiwanese firm’s factories in China were negatively impacted by the country’s strict COVID-19 restrictions in 2022. The company also reportedly flew Chinese engineers to India in order to train workers at its factory to improve efficiency earlier this year.

CNBC reports that Foxconn will invest more than $1.5 billion (roughly Rs. 12,500 crore) to be budgeted for a “construction project to fulfil operational needs” of the company in the country, according to security filings. The multi-crore investment will be made via its subsidiary Hon Hai Technology India Mega Development, as per the report.

Foxconn’s representative in India said in September that the company was aiming to double its investment and workforce in India by 2024 as the firm looks to diversify its production outside China. The iPhone assembler was severely impacted last year when Chinese lockdowns related to the coronavirus pandemic affected production and output for weeks.

The company currently employs around 40,000 people at its iPhone factory in Tamil Nadu and recently flew out Chinese engineers to its iPhone manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu to improve production, according to a Rest of World report. The company planned to manufacture iPhone 15 units in India in time so that they could ship alongside units made in other regions, on the launch day.

While Foxconn has achieved high levels of efficiency in China, the company’s Tamil Nadu plant was affected by a higher ratio of defective units and more expensive costs for materials — lowering profits from the factory compared its counterparts in China, according to the report that cites two persons close to the company.

Over the coming months, Foxconn will compete with the Tata Group as the Indian tech conglomerate recently completed its takeover of Wistron’s Indian unit. While the Tata Group was already producing components used in some iPhone models, the Wistron India acquisition will allow the company to assemble iPhone models in India, alongside Pegatron, Luxshare, and Foxconn.
